- Great lightheavyweight champion Virgil Hill fights James Kinchen in defense of his lightheavyweight WBA title. Both men also fought the legendary Thomas "Hit Man" Hearns of Detroit. Hearns beating both of them.
Worked out at the same gym as Kinchen in downtown San Diego... good guy.
Virgil Hill defeated Micheal nun in the amateur. Very consistent fighter.🏆🥊
Great performance by Virgil Hill 🥊🏆
'If you can't stand the heat, stay outta the Kinchen'
I went to that fight. I had a bet with one of the army recruiters (for a can of pop) on Virgil. One of the best tasting cans of Coke I ever drank!
If anyone has Kinchen vs. Hearns, I'd love to see it.
That is what separates boxing from all other sports. One punch, in a fight you are winning big or losing bad, and you walk out a winner just like that. Kitchen did walk through some big shots from Hearns and never flinched.
What a lot of people don't know is Kinchen was sick during that fight. I'd like to see this rematch.
Lol
Kinchen lost to Hearns, but it was HIGHLY disupted. A lot folks thought "The Heat" did enough to win that one. Of course, this fight represents the extinguishing of the the fire that was "The Heat."
Hearns should of been disqualified.
No, I'm not kidding. You make it sound like Hill owned Kinchen that whole round. Hell, Hill barely got a punch in until the end of the fight witht that lucky shot. Kinchen's left hooks to Hill's chest pushed Hill across the ring serveral times. I'm not saying Hill didn't win, I'm saying he got lucky. Google it. Every analyst who's even seen the fight said the same thing "Hill got lucky". Same reason why the comentator's were shocked.
Thell Torrance and a young Freddie Roach working Virgil’s corner for Eddie Futch.
i remember when he beat Leslie Stewart it really showed his skills.
Hill was an excellent fighter but this was a lucky punch. He may have beaten Kinchen anyway but think: Kinchen walked through Thomas Hearns' best right hands all night and barely blinked, yet a light hitter like Hill manages to wobble him like that? It was one of those moments where a fighter by chance lands the perfect shot. Like when Michael Nunn knocked Sambu Kalambay cold even though he wasnt a big hitter and Kalambay had a granite chin. It was a little lucky with Hill.
wow!! beautiful execution. thats nothing but experience
I have the Hearns - Kinchen fight. I'll work on posting it.
I know first hand that even Hagler wouldn't fight Kinchen. Sugar Ray Leonard told Kinchen the reason why he couldn't get a big shot. I give credit to Hearns, he had the balls. But then Hearns accused Kinchen of Steroid use.
Cool, SwayzeOne, I'll look for that (Hearns-Kinchen). What did SRL say was the reason that Kinched didn't get a title shot?
Hill got lucky. This fight was stopped so close to the end of the round. Watch Kinchen's skills before the lucky shot by Hill. The decision on Kinchen's fight against Hearns was political. Kinchen smoked Hearns.
He's also french-canadian,norwegian,german and a couple other things. I read it on his website.;) Nice mix.
Boz Ajanovic He is also Native American. I met his son and got the chance to meet him before through his son.
Young Freddie Roach working the corner of Hill. His first champion .
@SwayzeOne Very nice of you to let me know , Swayze. Thank you!
The vid quality is low. Was Hill wearing a toupee, or did he still have hair?
Virgil quicksilver hill! Maybe the greatest one handed fighter ever! Saw him fight at the Bismarck civic center many times! Not much power; no right hand to speak of; but fast and great chin! Also a sneaky left hook. A master boxer who lost the really big fights in his career! Hall of famer? No I don't think he should have made the hall; but there are a lot of guys in the hall of fame that don't belong there! He never beat hearns and was knocked senseless by Jones Jr!!!
Does anybody have any video of the Hill VS. Emebe fight in 1988?
Where is the ref in all of this.. He didn't protect Kinchen at all. Poor guy was parallel to the floor still getting hit. Smh
@pnutbutrncrackers
someone posted the hearns vs. kinchen fight.
Sadly the boxing hall of fame in new York ain't what it used to be! Who they gonna induct next year hills friend tocker pudwill?
dang
Freddy Roach, trainer of champions
Holy smoke Kinchen Blood right there :P
Hill did beat some good fighters like frank Tate and bobby czyz! And I spoke to him a few times and I will say this last comment; he was always a class act to his fans and to the state of north Dakota! Which is right next door to bum fuck Egypt!!!
he fights like he has no right hand
Omg there has to be a better quality video of this surely. If my old video cassette was in this condition, I would have thrown it in the bin.I wouldnt have bothered transfering it and uploading it,then some other toss decides to copy and upload it unbelieveable.I guess anything is better than nothing.
he never did lose in north dakota
Bear Oldcastle VIRGIL HILL!! VIRGIL HILL!!!
FREDDIE ROACH JUMPING FROM JOY
Wow, youre lucky!:)
A young Freddie Roach at 1:59-2:25.
YOU GUYS DO KNOW THAT THAT'S A YOUNG FREDDIE ROACH IN VIRGIL HILL'S CORNER. HILL WAS ROACHE'S FIRST CHAMPION. MANNY PACQUIAO'S TRAINER NOW
Of course I know.
i ment kenchin ihn a bus stop : )....
like an hour aqo no lie...
no way
is hill a south paw
Yes. He was a natural left hander but converted to fight as a righty. Just like Liston, Cooney, Oscar and Danny Garcia .
Kinchen had no heat...
@allout1034 Hill has no black blood in him whatsoever. I remember reading an article in either Ring or KO magazine and he said so himself. He is part Native American and part white.
i believe he's mixed with black and indian..
Fluke. The better fighter who won later to be exposed by RJJ brutally. James spit Hearns’ punches like gum, Hill nowhere near the level of Hearns. It was just his night and not James’.
is hill indian
One more comment bout hill! If he would have even beat Darius micelcheski then I think he would have been hall of fame caliber! Instead he made an excuse about an injury in that fight!!! Called hearns an old man! Well the old man or should we say the hitman beat your ass! Once hill tasted that power of hearns in round 2; bro it was not gonna happen! But he says he thought he actually won! Really hill? What were u smoking? But did go the distance and put up a decent showing! U lost to hearns just admit it!!!
@djk28161 He is Native American and white. It would be great if you learned how to read, write and spell before making any other comments.
Virgil was adopted into a white family. His adoptive father was a super great guy
Wrong... Virgil was born to Leona and Bob Hill, who originally started teaching him boxing in their backyard, in North Dakota.
i know virgil hill
Nope
Hill was awful.
A true boxing historian like myself will tell u; hill caught kitchen cold! Kitchen didn't break a sweat in the locker room. He was bone dry when he entered the ring for this fight! But that takes nothing away from hills performance!!! Hill would have easily outboxed kitchen anyways!!! Simply put hill was way to fast for kitchen and most other guys he fought!! Why u think his nickname is quicksilver?
@shire2005 You cannot really say he beat Hearns when he didn't. Heanrs fought his heart out and won a decision. Kinchen thought because he hurt Hearns in round 4 and had a 3 point round, he could not be busy like Hearns was. I don't know how anyone can think Hearns lost that fight. Knockdowns are great, but they do not make a win if there are 8 rounds remaining and there are no more knockdowns.
