At 2:25 PM this afternoon (May 23, 2024), a maritime collision occurred at the Red Light Junction area (Cat Lai Ward, Thu Duc City, coordinates: 10°44'42.0"N 106°46'25.9"E). The INTERASIA PURSUIT vessel (Singapore nationality, IMO Number: 9757553) collided with the barge SG 8259, which was moving from Phu My to SP ITC port.
Fortunately, the collision did not result in any casualties, but at least nine empty containers on the barge fell into the river. Additionally, some containers on the SG 8259 barge were damaged.
At the time of the collision, the weather in the area was poor, with heavy rain, thunderstorms, and significantly reduced visibility.
It is known that the INTERASIA PURSUIT vessel had just completed loading at Cat Lai port and was starting its scheduled journey to Port Klang (Malaysia) when it collided with the SG 8259 barge.
The ship INTERASIA PURSUIT did not record any damage, while the barge SP-ITC 01 suffered damage to the port side plating.
Currently, eight containers have been found, one torn container is suspected to have sunk at the impact area.
After the accident, the Port Authority coordinated with relevant units to mobilize ships and canoes to the scene
Relevant authorities to retrieve the containers that had fallen into the river. Up to this point, the authorities have identified and moved eight containers to a safe area at the SP-ITC port.
After receiving information about the collision, the Nha Rong Port Border Guard Station, Ho Chi Minh City Maritime Administration, Cat Lai Waterway Traffic Police, and Tan Cang-Sai Gon Port Authority closely coordinated to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident and to implement necessary measures to ensure maritime safety and prevent similar incidents from occurring.
