IMPORTANT POST PATCH UPDATE: Lionheart stance finally actually works now, so the sections about all the weird counterplay stuff you have to do, you don't have to worry anymore. Now the mixup works as intended, in situations where are forced into lionheart with advantage frames, Lionheart 1 basically will beat the opponent if they try to press any button/do armour/try to duck, and once thats established then lionheart 1+2 is the guardbreak and you get guaranteed damage now. No more having to stance dance or abuse glitches(which has been patched out). The Mixups is now a proper mixup, rejoice!
I don’t even play TEKKEN 8 but I still sit through these hour long videos because I love how Rooflemonger teaches how to play all these characters 😂 thank you bro
Finally here with the Steve guide. Didn't get those balance changes like I hoped, but at least there's a bit of a light at the end of the tunnel as explained in the 2nd Lionheart section, some advanced tech to make his lionheart stance more useful! Also I started the starter guide format to make the guides shorter, and here we are again with another hour long monster lol. I just like explaining things I cant help it
Appreciate it! As a former steve main in tekken 7 it feels like he’s still stuck in that game. Everyone else got amazing new tools but he kinda feels meh in this game.

@@lsv47 ub2 cancel does let you do sonic fang, but the timing is tighter cause you can't pre buffer anythihng cause you have to commit to the cancel vs df12 is mad easy so thats why I used that as the example instead

Honestly I have no plans on playing this guy but had to click on the vid to like it. Your character guides and dedication to the FGC in general is absolutely next level.
The three characters I wanted to try in this game were Kuma, Jack-8, and Steve. Now that Rooflemonger has done guides on them all (thank you for the quality education, sensei) I can stop having a character crisis over who looks coolest to character crisis over whose gameplan is most fun to do.
@@adams3627wr 2 and 1+2 in heat mode give you a nice bit of distance if you commit to the heat dash, same with 3+4, 2. These moves are fairly common so there is some ideas there

Here we are with the Steve Fox Starter Guide! Steve is a very unique character in Tekken 8 that you can't really compare to anyone else, so the purpose of this video is to help you understand basically everything there is to know about him! From what he's good at, his whole whack of stances, a bunch of example combos and a bunch more to get you started on your Steve journey! Give the video a watch, like if ya liked it(timestamps for a video thats over an hour long? cmon, give a like!) and let me know what you think!
Hey im just starting Tekken and im learning Steve. Advice on avoiding reliance on lion heart to create space as I find it's easier to input and is more evasive then learning any korean backdash of sorts .
@@kaiheaton4858 I say don’t avoid. Learn the situations where you should use it versus not using it. I learned that I often times go into the moves after the back step too soon and that can lead to a counter hit. If you wait for the opponent, most times they will whiff and you can attack at that moment from LH
Steve is a complex character but very rewarding to say the least. I appreciate you taking the time to show us how badass he can be up to his fullest potential 🥊
really appreciate you making a guide on steve! hes looked really interesting and i havent found a good way to start learning him, so this has been a huge help! thanks very much
I'm flame ruler at the moment, I've been playing Steve only since Tekken 6 , and I can tell you something about the character, it is all about reading the opponent, Steve has basically no tools compared to the rest of the characters, this character trains you the most on how to read the opponent.
Great video with a good breakdown! Just a quick note. You can make Wildman fully safe with a duck cancel after the d2, 1. So you go d2, 1, duck (f3), db, b. You can slide the duck to db, b. With some timing practice you can get this 100% of the time and it makes this combo godly for mixups.
Your timing is perfect. I literally just started tekken and Steve caught my eyes so I picked him up. Being new to tekken it’s been very difficult because of how unique he is in general and i thought I doomed myself
I’ve been coming back to this video for the past week. Rooflmonger videos have never been more helpful for me than with tekken. I can remember a few moves and strings at a time but when every character has a 100+ move set I can always count on the ROOFLEMASTER to break down the moves and play style.
Thank you so much for the Steve guide man! I'm finally getting into fightning games and Steve is my guy! I really appreciate the extra help and breakdowns!
I got King on tenryu cause of these guides (never played tekken before but other fighting games) thought i need to Pick someone Else cause variety. I watched this Guide a week ago and now im garyu with Steve. You guides are Amazing, i found you like 4 years ago and was never disappointed
As a Steve main from Tekken 7, this is a really great guide for new players who want to get into the character in Tekken 8. Definitely sharing this with friends looking to learn the character, and I would honestly love to erase my memory on all the things I learned about Steve and learn him again with this video
This is awesome! I’m a huge fan of boxing characters and I really think Steve seems like he will be really cool and honestly every character will have their struggles so I really think I need to learn this game.
Tekken 8 is the first in the series I've actually sat down to learn, nearly Garyu with Kazuya. Once i do that, Steve was the next character i wanted to pick up, so this should be helpful
Something to add; the backsway reposition grab is great when at the wall, as it can cause a wall hit that can lead into a short combo, specifically 1,1,2. You can then cancel this into another backsway into grab and repeat ad nauseum until they decide to duck/low attack or break the grab.
Been waiting for another one of these! Other than Paul (and maybe Kuma), I haven’t been interested so I’m happy to see a Steve guide! I’m still waiting for someone cool like Lili, Hwoarang, Jin, Devil Jin, or Yoshi.
Be wary of using ub + 3 to bait and evade Rage Art because it'll more often than not cancel the animation, lock you in place to eat that. Had it happen to many times. Great guide Rooflemonger!
Great guide. Fun little tidbits about Steve: the grab out of sway gives you insane frame advantage when pushed into a wall. It allows a free 1,1,2. Df+2 from Peekaboo stance does not count as a punch and rather an elbow so punch counters from characters like Asuka don't work. This was evident in T7, while I still think this is true for T8 I haven't played enough to test it. Trying to get into the new game thanks to your guide lmao.
One thing i want to add is about the sway grab which reposition the enemy ( it is much better at the wall whenever the enemy touch the wall because of it you have +10 guarranteed , depending on the angle it can go to (+16 ~+22 )
As a Voldo main and someone who loves stance characters and wishes to get better with Steve, I've have to say," Impressive, very nice." Now all we need is Rooflemonger to convince Tekken Project to get Mike Tyson as a Tekken 8 guest character!!
Awesome video, but one thing about the backsway 1+2 grab, if you push them into a wall you can get some mad + frames, and even guaranteed damage. The amount of + frames kinda depends on how far away you are when you push them into it, further away you get more frames. Shinblade (like the #2 ranked Steve in the world) can get like 80+ damage off of just a wall shove near the wall, over 100 with heat.
I love how tekken 8 brings soooo much new comers and it's amazing. I've played previous ones in the past but never sat down and learned the ins and outs but this one I did that and im glad I did.
A good easy basic sumary for steve's gameplan, mid screen you want to land a counterhit, launcher and carry them to the wall or heat engager move (use qcf1 mid check or 1+2 sonic fang as wiff punish), because this way you gain acess to his mix ups, after landing heat engager you are +17, u can mix with foot stomp low or qcf1 and heat dash out of it (its a launcher +5 on block), at the wall foot stomp has no reach problem and qcf1 wall splats for full wall combo, if the try to armor out of lionheart after being hit by the low, you can sway (b3 or b4) and do 1+2 (throw), it breaks armor and parries and wall splats for a full combo, if they dont press anything and eat the throw geting wall splated u get 112 followup. you can also check all his many wall splating moves to commit to at wall.
It's a shame I already know this matchup pretty well. I really respect Steve players, I can tell they're working hard. An amazing Steve player is a sight to behold. I might give him a go myself, I really love this character. I might do Mac cosplay (Nintendo Punch Out).
