    Genotype/phenotype that may matter not mentioned:
    1)training hyper- vs hypo-response
    2)PED hyper- vs hypo-response

    Very good video mate! Genetics is always a vague term used by the mayority of people but it's more complex than it's seem. Like you explain "genetics" is something that predispose you to a large set of things so when people often ask if they have "good genetics" i ask for what? We tend to think that a person with big hands or tall or even muscular will perform better at AW from the beginning but it's not that simple

    • @EastsideArmWrestling
      @EastsideArmWrestling  Рік тому +5

      Thanks ntgr, and you’re exactly right! Asking questions like you mentioned, “for what?”, is the type of mindset I hope to instill in people.
      Seeking for nuance in answers, I feel, is more beneficial for improving ourselves.

    I've been ArmWrestling almost 1 year and still everybody wins to me. My dream was being National Champ one day. But even people that don't even go to the gym wins me. And i think i have long arm cause i'm 6'1 - 6'2 but i am skinny. I weight 150 lbs and i have very thin wrists and forearms. And i understand is frustrating cuz i put tons of time learning Everything about ArmWrestling and training consistently but when you don't see results it's normal to start thinking maybe i was not made for this. ArmWrestling is almost like my biggest passion even if i loose every time, so i think i will still doing it for a couple years. But i know that if i'm still in the same point in some more years even if i learn and train a lot i will have to give up and focus only in getting bigger. Some genetics are not predispose to get too much stronger. But first you wanna find out by yourself giving it time and trying to learn a lot on how to do things right, and then making conclusions. I write this the 28/06/2024. If someone remind me in one year or more i will tell if i make it. Good luck to everyone.

    I would add 2 factors when it comes to genetics:
    - if we assume that practically all top armwrestlers are enhanced, then part of one's genetics is a response to PEDs. Some benefit more than others from the same substances/doses.
    - also genetic resistance to side effects of PEDs. This might not affect immediate performance much, but affects longevity of the athlete's career.

    • @EastsideArmWrestling

    Apparently I’m a unusual case, because although Im a big & tall guy, and was stronger and more athletic than most of my peers while growing up, and I’ve resistance trained for over 40yrs, But (for my size) neither my hands are arms are big relatively, BUT yet I’ve always been very dominant at arm wrestling among my peers, friends and acquaintances, Constantly beating people with bigger hands and arms than me, and also beating countless people who can bench press way more than me, It seems for some genetic reason that I can generate a lot of strength in the arm wrestling vectors, and I’m particularly proficient at top rolling, although I can hook good as well. Lastly, I genuinely love arm wrestling.

      Thanks for sharing your personal and very relevant example, kbopper!
      Obviously bigger hands can help, but we can see from yourself that other things can play a role too. Perhaps your nervous system is just that much better at engaging your muscles, or maybe you may have better muscle insertion points? We may not know exactly, but these invisible factors definitely play a bigger role than many might realize!

    Genetics is one thing. But hard work and a training style that will suit you will maximise your potential even exceed it. An example would be, Todd Hutchings. He doesn’t really have the best genetics yet he is one of the best there is in the heavyweights.

    • @EastsideArmWrestling

      Haha, Todd has insanely good genetics 🧬

    • @worldofwarcraftvince
      @worldofwarcraftvince 2 місяці тому

      @ if were talking about the level of the top elites in arm wrestling. He’s probably below of them all. There is the size of forearms, the length of the arm, the size of the wrist and hands. It all comes to play when it comes to raw strength no technique. The reason why Todd Hutching is so strong and still one of the best elites of the sport despite not being really genetically gifted for arm wrestling is because his training focus solely in side pressure with different ways of hand containment which directly translate to arm wrestling and has made a training program specifically to effectively get stronger.

    What do you think about race? We know genetics is related to race as well. I think Europeans (white people) are the strongest, not only in arm wrestling but in all types of strength sports. They hold the world record for pretty much every heaviest lift ever done by mankind. I think Asians come in second we are pretty strong in the lower weight class and pound for pound, but Europeans are strongest overall.
