These are just absoutle gold, when we have arguably the best commercial fisherman in the country and he's getting lessons learnt and eye openers how can we not learn from this. Also kudos to Jamie as he's no ego at all some top guys might not want to be seen as a fool. Jamie just loves it and learns..... Hats off to the Hughes'
Great video again, yes distance over water is shocking also the bread. I’d live to see a video on feed in rivers to see how far it actually travels depending on the bait and then additives to ground bait to make it sink and when fish feed over ground bait or bait via a dropper does that then move down stream, maybe mark pollard at the embankment in Bedford
You should look at maggots and how far they move when loose fed. Even if fed tight in a pile i feel live maggots can move into a 5m square after a few mins of crawling about
That has just destroyed my bomb fishing, in open water I think I will have to rely on a method feeder and only use the bomb if I am fishing to a feature, for catapulting bait with any kind of accuracy. If Jamie struggled to get it right, then I have not got a chance. Tremendous video, thanks so much for opening my eyes to how far away we can be fishing from our freebies. Mind seriously BLOWN.
Love this video really helpful..I'd like to see a submerged on a deep ish venue with ground bait to see what the spread is like how it breaks down and to see if how far it spins away from where you pot it in..
Would love to see the difference from potting in at say 16 meters on a deep venue to balling it in like they do on the international river matches. Wonder what the spread is like
These are the best fishing / match fishing videos by far, the way both you guys combine with excellent analysis and expertise is just brilliant - keep them coming please. In terms of new ideas for filming, footage of feeding fish taking bait shallow and different rigs? Clay Pit crystal clear in summer?
Maybe match fishing needs to have a cross over from the carp anglers when it comes to bomb fishing. PVA bags or nets or baiting up with cage feeders prior the the bomb.
The result is that I ask myself what else I still do wrong or didn't thought about well enough to understand what happens under the surface. That is my big eyeopener. Thank both of you for your effort to show us and for this great video !
What an eye opener that was the length of time 18 seconds for the pellets to reach the bottom in 8ft how Jamie's pellets he fed never went near his Hook bait the faster a 6m would fall over a 8m pellet and the bread which I always thought would pop up off the bottom just amazing what I've learnt thanks Jamie, Rob, and matrix.👍
Absolutely great vid lots of information loved it l am not a great fisherman but one point I would like to pick up on is would a bit of tungsten putty just behind the hook Wound that work as a pop-up with the bread with the half bollie on top
Hi Jamie , Rob . with the 12in hook length have you thought about using silcone tubing to kick your hook length away from your lead .. from your swivel towards hook length , we use this in sea fishing to kick the hook length away from are lead
Another great video, these are videos are imo the best videos you can watch as it the only way to understand what you think is happening v reality. Please keep them coming.
Awesome Guy's thank you both very much, some surprising outcomes there, especially with the spread of the pellets. Looks totally different from the bank. Might just have a try with some different pouches to try and see what effect it has on the grouping. Once again thanks lads.
Great video, was wondering if the bread had been squashed down too much and may have been better not as compact and possibly with a lighter hook at Jamie suggested.
Great stuff , as an ex infantry (para) - I've always thought of loose feed by hand or catapult as an "area weapon" as the feed is gonna disperse , as one gent mentioned below , sticking pellets and also sweetcorn together could be one idea to improve grouping , there might be some mileage in looking at pouch design for 'pults , PVA bags and mesh may not be practical for match anglers ???? - casting accuracy awesome - that's why those top boys are at the top !.
really interesting as always folks and well presented. it would have been interesting to see the catapulted bait spread via a drone to get a real sense of distance
Brilliant once again boys, my question would be to look at a different design to the catapult pouch as the grouping was obviously so sporadic! Maybe even the types of elastic?
To stop the spread being too far would it be worthwhile trying the equivalent of a stickymag type approach, binding the pellets together into a ball but with a substance that allows them to easily break apart on hitting the water?
Another great video, but what an eye opener I was surprised about the bait spread, maybe it’s time we used the tea bag method more often, the bread was a shock all this time we thought we were fishing popped up bread, I had my suspicions because I’ve often brought bits of weed back but now I know what happened looks like I’m going to put a sliced white pop up in between the bread, It would be nice to do a feature on the river with loose feeding over balled in gb and how a bait dropper works or not?
Cracking as usual, strange with the bread not popping up, I did an under water popped up bread video for my channel and 2 disks was enough to pop it up but I did use a different hook pattern and size, so I guess it's worth testing it in your sink at home before fishing it.......
I find that if you pick a far bank marker and fully extend your arm holding the catty and pull the pouch bit back to your chest you can be pretty accurate with your pellets.
This series is getting more interesting with each episode. Regarding the spread of pellets, I thing there are several contributing factors. Please allow me;- The way the pellets are loaded in the pouch can be the first thing to be considered, although I can't see that having too much impact on how they land. For achieving accurate launching, we would have to look at how army chopper launch multiple missiles. They are all facing the exact same way, and are the exact distance from the exit point. We can't get that with a humble 'pult. The next thing is how the pellets actually move in flight. This is complete chaos, they twist and turn all over the place and only heading roughly in the same direction. That's because although the appear the same as each other, when we look closer, there are enough differences to affect the aerodynamic properties rendering each one different from the last in the air. Another factor is how the pellets make first contact with the water, they wall be spinning at differing rates of spin, and at varying angles, thus affect their individual trajectory before they even begin to sink. And the final factor is as the pellets wouldn't fly true because the little nuances that make them all different, will also affect the way they fall through the layers . Am I making sense? That brings mw to my next point. Would it by an idea to try "tea bags" to assist with better grouping? I was thinking that a PVA mesh may well melt whilst still falling through 8 or more feet of depth, there by giving a small spread on the deck, and of cousre, the hook bait just a few inches away. (Depending on hook length). Just an idea or two, I'm not trying to preach science, only throwing a bit of logic in the mix.
Never understood why the pult is shaped like a blunderbus that wasn't accurate either, they made fun of the launcher that Bob nudd used to endorse but it was accurate every time because of the shape of the vessel! The elastic just propelled it,not coned shaped with holes.
Very interesting. Pellet shape could be causing the inconsistent grouping issues, if pallets were totally round I'm sure the grouping would be much better ???
Hi both of you great the best information. Can you do some think on thermal layers or do they exist in under water depths less than 6ft plus why hasn’t somebody come up with a graph on the depth to fish in to the temperature and times of the year.
How about a Matrix Submerged video on the slow sinking feeder showing fall rates of the feed micro's and how loose feed 4mm pellets get affected by the current in deeper water. Hayton Lakes at Retford, Notts, is a great venue. It's deep and stuffed with mad F1's that respond to the slow sinker.
@@ifishmatrix Hello Matrix, yes Hayton Lakes is a pretty clear water even in summer, normally it only colours up when it's being really windy. Iv'e spoken to Toby who is the manager there and suggested that you give him a phone call on 07508 903078 . There are 7 lakes there where I'm sure you would find some suitable water. Could I suggest Jamie Harrison comes for a days fishing and has a look round. Hayton is only 3 miles by road away from Hallcroft or 1/2 mile as the crow flies. Regards, Malc.
Would using a different hook link material like braid or fluorocarbon (which i never see any match man use, why?) make a difference, and would the tea bag approach work better.
In terms of where the pellet lands we’ve tried other Hooklengths and diameters previously and it never makes any difference. Rob think that you would need really think carp style set up for it it kick away from the lead.
@@ifishmatrix What about the teabag approach, at least you should have small pile of feed near the hookbait, and is there any reason why braid or fluorocarbon isn't use as a hooklink material in match fishing.
Maggot fishing on the pole. How long does it take for them to settle? what’s the footprint like on the bottom? are they eaten before they get to the bottom? Do they wriggle away or into the silt?
Biggest eye opener ever, unbelievable camera work and casting, shame about the feeding Jamie, haha. shocked about the bread on the lead. looking forward to more of the same.
Great video and very interesting 👍 would have liked to see a wafter as a hook bait aswell just to see how that reacted on the bottom, maybe idea for next time 👍👍
I can understand what you said about how long pellets take to sink, I just wonder if some pellets take longer than others due to their density as marine halibut pellets seem denser than plain pellets
Great video to watch but would like to see pellets sinking when really windy with a strong tow to see how they sink to see if there anywhere near the bomb
Great piece of camera and film work done by all the team and what an eye opener for us all. You wanted some questions and the one i have always wanted to know does the shape of paste matter to the extent that it sits in the right position and how long does some constancy last??
Really surprised how the anglers view of casting into the loosefeed was so off, designated distance feed pults needed maybe?, like the groundbait ones used by slider anglers. Loved the bonus bread bit at the end, but was hoping you were going to top and tail two discs of bread with two discs of crust ( how i do it lol). Shall have to do a test now :) . Some canal an river content with roach ,bream etc would be nice to see.
Great video - Watched several times!! A thought in addition to the vast amount of information shared - would a helicopter rig with short twisted loop to kick out the pellet/hook length from the lead have advantages over a running ledger ?
I think the bread didnt stay up was because jamie compressed the bread punch against his finger pushimg air out. If you thoow a piece of bread flake in water it floats, compress it, it sinks. Just a thought, good accuracy though jamie
Cogs are turning. Catapulting bait is essential to attract fish, with noise and bait falling through water. But the wide spread isn’t concentrating enough to get the best of our pegs. Maybe, a floating feeder/ mini spod will be a new match aid to concentrate the feed. Literally, acting like a pole pot.
another thought - did Jamie drag the bomb back at all to straighten the hook link? I don't think he likes to do that, but it would have been interesting to see if the hook get's masked at all
Jamie said that normally would do this, after watching the first Matrix Submerged. But due to the size of the clear area we were filming on, it wasn't possible on this day.
I am amazed at the difference of spread from how many pellets you put in the catapult. If I feed 4 X 8mm it is so much more accurate to 6,8 or 10 pellets when feeding. Should you be feeding 11mm pellets 1 at a time?
So from now on...no more long hook links (thank god) , anything over 12" just hinders quick bite detection and lowers the chance of hooking up. Use an in-line bolt rig if you can get away with it. Add a small PVA bag of pellets to the hook and spray a small pouch of pellets over the top to 'ring the dinner bell' before you chuck. Use a stand out hook bait....either a red pellet or a larger bait or both. Maybe add a bit of extra attraction like some 'Goo'. Stick to using 6mm pellets when catapulting over the top so that get to the bottom fast if the range and conditions will let you.....leaving your stand-out hookbait with more 'hang time' in the bite zone. Put this all together and you should have more bait in a smaller area....and your hook pellet maybe the first thing they grab. Definately giving this a try. Oh and start on the bomb first and then try the pellet waggler second rather than the other way round. Its kind of ironic...if I think about the way I fish for big Carp..then doing all these things is a lot like accurately spodding and putting a high attraction boiliie hook bait right in the middle of that baited area. If you could fish this way it could probably work in a similar manner to fishing the method or hybrid feeder. Adding a PVA bag gives a concentrated mouthful of bait in a small area. Each bag you put in area adds more attraction. You could use a pellet-like wafter as a hook bait too. Critically balanced hookbaits are always good for me on the method.
Great video and really helpful! Question: instead of feeding pellets with the catapult, why not using soluble bags filled with pellets? Thank you in advance for your answer.
Would it be worth attaching a small mesh bag of half a dozen pellet. I've just learned a mountain from this video. 58.26 rob getting attacked by a spider. 😎Thanks guys
