Fascinating video! This video provides an opportunity to understand fish behavior, what happens at the bottom, and what needs to be done! Thank you for such an experience.
Hi lads . that has just blown me away how much the colour change has made so much of a difarence it makes. Great to see Cal on the bank with Matrix . Thank you for a great video . All the best for the New Year Lads.
I fished paste nearly all summer on our club lake and I use 4mm on the paste over hemp and other particals great video with top ups every 20-30 minutes
Another great and inciteful video, thanks guys. I know we have always used the largest sized hook rules allow for paste fishing but what I will be trying is using smaller hooks to enable the size of paste to be less simply because I want to see if it is better as unfortunately a lot of fish we catch these days do have the damage to their mouths seen here.
Great video boys, Jamie’s just a class guy! After watching this it just confirms why I hated paste fishing, I feel a small method dropped over that and you would of emptied it 👌🏽
I've always fished paste in the mindset that they don't single the paste out they just suck the lot in while scoffing micros and hemp, real eye opener,.great video guys
Great video guys, i would probably have added another 2 inches to the rig and have strung out bulk starting 6 inches from the hook moving up, think that would help stabilize the paste more with the currents and wafting from the fish, currents , maybe try a different colour paste or paste made out of the micros.
Great video chaps, fished paste there a few years back on a day with Steve Gregory, some content very similar some totally different, and had an amazing day.
Jamie when I set the float I always run the shot down to the hook knot and space it out 1 inch apart i fish over depth 3inch then I put a BB shot 2 inch away from the hook so that the bias on the shot turns the hook over when taken when the fish sucks in the bait and blows it out because of the line it can feel the hook is down automatic because of the BB shot and the fish hooks it's self I find it a very good method you still use the float But more often than not the fish is already hooked size
Brilliant watch. Everyone does it slightly differently but when Callum showed the groundbaits I thought the first thing he was going to do was riddle them. I think an ultra fine groundbait makes a better heavier paste.
Having watched the video in its entirety, there’s no doubt the fish homed in on hook bait after the colour change. However, what time of the day was it? I get the sense it was getting towards that 2.30/3pm time when fish tend to naturally feed more confidently anyway?
Great video guys❤. Paste is probably the only aspect of match fishing I'm any good at. Rubbish at the rest. Haha. I'm halfway through the video at the moment, and reckon when the fish are queueing up in the peg like that, wetter paste seems to work wonders. The cloud as it's breaking down seem to trigger them into competing for the paste, and very quick bites.
wet the 2mm pellets.Makes them heavier They dont scatter as easy. Paste does need to be wetter. Makes it heavier. If Jamie is unhappy with paste falling of ,just add some wheat glutten when mixing it.
Great video. So should we expecting a pink paste mix from Sonubaits soon? When I saw you rolling the paste in micros to 'match the hatch' I kept thinking about the 'pellet cone' presentation. Molding softened micros around the hook seems to be a good idea. Something like a double sided method mold to compress the micros into a firm lump?
What does my head in on paste is thinking has it fallen off even though i shot my float to allow for weight of the paste . The amount of tow was crazy & i think laying the rig in different may help & i always fish paste well over depth 🎣
Awesome video. guys. Learnt a lot. 6mm or 2mm Question Is it really necessary to use a small bulk. I use 1 #8 half way between float and hook to stop tangling when shipping out. Never had a problem with this set up 🤔 🤔
that has blown my mind being a paste angler for yea s that blew loads of myths and things i thouight was going on . get a good bed of hemp down there with a bit of groundbait in with some balls of paste and they will be ravenous . i dont like the hook wanting too pull through paste all time so i usually lay on 2-4 inches on bottom with a bit of rig putty too anchor it down. i find i get much more possitive bites from that anyway that was amazing lads sorry iam late too party
The insights shown in the underwater videos are amazing.... even if it is frustrating to watch. But, what on earth has happened to all those fish? I've never seen mouths so bad.
Learned two things. Firstly, If you're fishing for manky fish, you need something they can suck in to whatever is left of their mouths. This is why I feel dead maggots are king on a lot of waters with old stock. Secondly, paste is a bit pants. Brilliant film though, thank you.
Amazing footage so far at this mid point. Can’t believe how much the paste moves. I would look to make the paste more attractive. And I would love to see the paste made out of micros instead of groundbait. 🐳👍
You could do 3 or 4 videos on this. With different feed baits (hemp) . Wetter paste to see if it doesnt float around, bigger bits ,as those used seem small to me. Love the video. But as say ,take to different levels
Fantastic video guys another massive learning experience still don't think I will be getting on the paste anytime soon though way too much of a faff for me, I'll stick with the pellets, I was shocked there was no haze effect from the haze liquid or am I the only one who picked up on that, think I will be avoiding that claim in future too and sticking with others colours and flavours. Thanks again for all you have done this year and happy holidays and all the best for 2025
I think if you add it to a solid bait like corn, pellets or meat you get a cloud off it. When you add it to paste the particles absorb it som there’s no liquid to create the cloud
Very interesting watch, surprising to see how the paste performed/moved under water and another video showing how slow micros sink. Unfortunately the mouths on most of those carp prevented the inhalation of the paste, (think some would have struggled to eat a 6mm pellet) so didn't give a true reflection of how effective the paste can be.
Fantastic stuff guys very interesting Would of been interesting to see what would of happened if you had big potted micros. Then came back and baited up As buy then the micros would have settled on the bottom. And you could of fished over a bed of bait?
Good footage how ever paste needs to be a lot wetter almost like slop ? Then hair rig with a tiny wafter with paste around it then you have two baits in one
Fancy foul hooking fish in the mouth 😁. The main thing for me at the halfway stage is that fish with mashed up mouths isn't great for big baits. They've obviously got used to single small-ish baits, hence the one at a time feeding. They'll then ignore big baits like paste. I watched the Korda one earlier today, the fish were full-on eating four to eight 10mm and 12mm baits with ease...... And they had mouths which worked (extending and sucking). The fish in this Matrix one don't. Also, micros, how and when you feed them, whatever venue, is massive. We have seen this in many underwater vids.
Would have been great to see a heavy bulk rig used alongside the lighter rig you were using. Also a heavy bulk rig with softer paste would have been good to see. Parrott carp which is a shame to see as lots had deformed lips meaning they couldn’t take the full paste bait.
For me and this video proves it that if your fishing for carp it must be anchored on the bottom and if using a float it must be fished lift method with line laying on the bottom and tell tale shot, simply because of the shape of their mouths and the way they upend themselves.
I think Cal should increase the depth by about 1 inch or so, this would help the presentation of the bait and stop it from wafting all over the place. When he plumbed up he only had a very small area where he could present his bait properly.
The 6mm pellets made such a difference because the fish couldn't physically get them in their mouths, an unfortunate result of years of yank and bank angling on an overstocked venue. Thank god for overpriced syndicates, great vid and good to see how heavily pressured fish respond.
The blame stops at Bain valley fisheries owners. The bivvy brigade have been given a free hand on the venue for a number of years now it has nothing to do with match fishing as the matches were stopped after a big fish kill a few years back. To be fair to Matrix it was a good video and I think if they had been aware of the state of the fish they wouldn't have filmed it there as this is how match fishing gets a bad name but the truth is it's nothing to do with match fishing.
@@martinriggs2277 you blame the bivvy brigade but I see more in carp angling about fish care then in any other form of angling ? Watch how a match angler handles the fish, weighs the fish etc. no care atall! Fish are a number to a match man that’s all they are there for, weight
@@Jammysandwedge88 Yes that is correct but the fish wouldn't be in the state they are in if the fishery was managed properly. Bain Valley hasn't seen match men for years now and the fish wasn't in the state they are in now when matches were being run.The owner is only bothered about lining his pockets with money from the wigwam men now as they are the only ones going to the place with their big hooks and braided hook lengths and they are the ones who have ripped the mouths from most of the fish. You cannot blame people who don't fish the place anymore, the tackle I witnessed being used last time I visited wouldn't be out of place fishing for sharks never mind a 15lb carp.
Looked like the mouth damage was done when the fish were quite young thay seemed healed for a long time and had adapted for a long time . That would probably suggest damage was caused by mach stile or pleasure angling tactics thay seemed a bit on the small side to have been caught by boilies etc who knows. Its horrible to see fish of any size mutilated like that no excuses who ever is to blame
It's interesting that the rudd show almost no interest in the paste. That might be the answer to a big problem at a water I fish at! They are like piranhas on any other bait.
Fascinating video! This video provides an opportunity to understand fish behavior, what happens at the bottom, and what needs to be done! Thank you for such an experience.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video boy's but those fish were munters horrible lookers 😂
Didn’t even try and eat it 😂😂
What a great video
Love all these underwater videos who ever makes them……
Very instructive video! It is very exciting to see what I had only suspected. Thanks!
Hi lads . that has just blown me away how much the colour change has made so much of a difarence it makes. Great to see Cal on the bank with Matrix . Thank you for a great video . All the best for the New Year Lads.
Great ad to buy some fluoro pink.
I’m sold 😆
Great footage lads 👍🎣
Fantastic film. Thank you Matrix. 🐳👍
I fished paste nearly all summer on our club lake and I use 4mm on the paste over hemp and other particals great video with top ups every 20-30 minutes
Best submerged yet! I really enjoyed watching Callum on the box, buzzing for the spring so I can try pink paste 😀
Another great and inciteful video, thanks guys. Great vid the one thing i noticed watching the ones with the ruined mouths could not suck it up but the healthy mouthed ones hovered it up
Great video boys, Jamie’s just a class guy!
After watching this it just confirms why I hated paste fishing, I feel a small method dropped over that and you would of emptied it 👌🏽

Fantastic vid and presentation lads.Mindblowing.🤩🤩
Great insight this video into what happens under water when fishing keep them coming please 👍👍
Love these types of videos fantastic well done 👍
WOW Best paste video on youtube guys. Thanks for making it.
Brilliant video, gone bald watchin it!! 😂😂😂 but the condition of the Carps mouths 😢😢
Absolutely brilliant video I love fishing paste
Great video chaps, fished paste there a few years back on a day with Steve Gregory, some content very similar some totally different, and had an amazing day.
Great video would have loved to see how wet paste looks in the water and fished. Good job, lads🎉
Would be interesting to see hard pellet fishing with paste moulded around the pellet.
Cracking video ,keep them coming 🎣🎣
Brilliant it just shows exactly how frustrating paste fishing can be and how much difference rolling the micros and adding pink colour made.
unbelievable and what wonderful educational images what a relatively small change can do bizarre
Jamie’s had that pen in his hand so long he must be writing his chippy order for lunch. 😂
Great video guys fish paste quite a lot and i have found over the years that red krill paste works in situations like the one in the video🤐
Great tip!
Awesome, I only fish natural venues but that was AWESOME!
Jay, I was half expecting Andy May to show up when you mentioned seeing a 'Big Bomber!'...🤔 Great video as always, cheers guys..
Jamie
when I set the float

Pink is always a winner for me, whether it’s paste, wafter or maggots 👌
awesome guys malman paste floats simply the best good choice callum
Great Vid!! try Feeding Ground Bait,Take the shot off the main line and use the paste to set the float.
Great Matrix Submerged Session 🎣

Question
Is it really necessary to use a small bulk.
I use 1 #8 half way between float and hook to stop tangling when shipping out.
Never had a problem with this set up 🤔 🤔
In the depth and water and tow it required a bit of weight down the line
Can't believe amount of movement in that paste. Maybe leave a tag end when you tie hook on and add a no9 stot to help stability of paste
that has blown my mind being a paste angler for yea

Great video thanks guys, got the Sherpa jacket today shame there's no top or inside pockets on it but other than that it's super warm feels lovely on
Got the Sherpa jacket and trousers. They’re superb.
@Andyfishing23 Thanks
The pink paste definitely works but the fish with weird mounts feed in a different way to proper carp 😊
The insights shown in the underwater videos are amazing.... even if it is frustrating to watch. But, what on earth has happened to all those fish? I've never seen mouths so bad.

you could try mixing micos into paste or add a scent to the groundbait mix, I always mix a small amount of the feed pellets
Would have like to see how you would have done feeding hempseed 🎣
I agree. They might be even more pre-occupied on the hemp than those micros though!
Amazing footage so far at this mid point. Can’t believe how much the paste moves. I would look to make the paste more attractive. And I would love to see the paste made out of micros instead of groundbait. 🐳👍
Probably best one iv seen.. defo 4mm banded pellet be better tho.. ❤
I would have liked to have seen you go back to uncoloured paste at the end. Would it have been as good. Interesting though.
Brilliant video, it just shows how much we dont understand about fish
Great video, surprised you did not use sloppy paste ? Would have been nice to see if that would have made a difference !!
You could do 3 or 4 videos on this. With different feed baits (hemp) . Wetter paste to see if it doesnt float around, bigger bits ,as those used seem small to me. Love the video. But as say ,take to different levels

Then came back and baited up
As buy then the micros would have settled on the bottom.
And you could of fished over a bed of bait?
Maybe something to try if we went back
most baits have taken 13secs to hit bottom but at 41 mins 28 secs it only took 11 seconds was it a bigger piece of paste??
Have you tried scalded 2mm micros leave over night,in a sealed tubthen roll into a paste it stays on the hook longer and I find a more positive bite.
Good footage how ever paste needs to be a lot wetter almost like slop ? Then hair rig with a tiny wafter with paste around it then you have two baits in one
Interesting 👍
Perhaps you lads should try hemp depending on the depth where you are fishing as hemp works well with paste👍
Can you do one for soft paste fishing please ?
well in boys great
Like a tropical aquarium with the rudd
great video, in what month was this filmed ?
Last week of September.
Great video. Think the dodgy mouths have thrown the results. Are the mouths damaged or deformed from bad breeding?
Fancy foul hooking fish in the mouth 😁.

Having tried micro's and 6mm, would 4mm be a half way point?
Merry Christmas to you all.
The micros just drove them wild, I reckon a pink fluoro micro band'um would have caught like crazy.
If they want micros .surely a smaller hook and couple of micros might just work.?
I've fished paste for 20yrs+ and always used micros to make my paste
Paused and rewound multiple times to try and catch the name of the float, but can't......any chance of confirmation?
Malman
Would have been great to see a heavy bulk rig used alongside the lighter rig you were using. Also a heavy bulk rig with softer paste would have been good to see. Parrott carp which is a shame to see as lots had deformed lips meaning they couldn’t take the full paste bait.
I LOVE MY BANJOXR 😂😂
Mix micros with the paste also smaller bit of paste maybe half the size!
For me and this video proves it that if your fishing for carp it must be anchored on the bottom and if using a float it must be fished lift method with line laying on the bottom and tell tale shot, simply because of the shape of their mouths and the way they upend themselves.
