Hey Man, I stumbled upon your channel while looking up reviews for a 1997 Jeep wrangler, I'm not a Jeep guy YET, although I have been wanting one for a while, and being a taller person I've decided its finally time, Thank you for the great content, You've earned yourself another sub.
That looked pretty painless pretty easy replacement.I pretty much have to remove my entire interior if I wanna replace the speakers in my 2000 GMC 2500
I have a 98 ZJ, that had someone before me butcher on its sound system. They replaced the factory stereo with a good Sony. But, they cut the wires and replaced the door speakers with crappy 5 1/2 - inch two-ways, poorly installed so they were just loose in the doors. It sounded very bad when I got it. I want to improve the sound. Which led me to this video. One little point from the home-stereo crowd--it might be easy to rebuild those old factory speakers if the paper cones still look good, which on yours they didn't. Just clean off the glue and re-glue new foam surrounds, available in every size on eBay for a few dollars. Easy as pie and might get you that "factory sound" back. I've done this on my home sound system, and got amazing sound from rebuilt 1980s DA speakers. One other thing on the ZJ, since there are tweeters in the dash, keeping the full-range door speakers will keep that "sound stage" that it had when it was new. It was supposed to sound like the band was right in front of you. Those replacement speakers look like two-ways with additional tweeters, so you might end up with too much high frequency sounds from the sides, and loss of that concert sound stage. This can be partly improved with the electronic EQ of the head unit. On mine, keeping the cheap replacement speakers, I installed Dynamat to replace the moisture barriers and re-installed the speakers properly. That improved it some. I'm thinking about what to do next. I'd like to find original speakers in new condition. Thank you so much for putting this out there for us ZJ owners! I love your videos. You're a great presenter.
Thanks for your compliments! Glad you enjoyed. I love the EQ in that head unit it really helps even out the sound. There's nothing better than a dialed in stereo system! I've never rebuilt a speaker before. Maybe one day!
So far I love those speakers.. I cleverly filmed 4 vids at once to keep myself from only removing the door panels once.. unfortunately filming is a PITA and the whole job took 3 days 😱
I did this twice 😂 I found used infinity gold speakers and installed them because I had no sound except the dash tweeters . My door speakers were dust ! I now have pioneer speakers in all the doors but still want to upgrade the dash tweeters so idk my other trucks I used a 1 inch dome tweeter by kicker and mounted them on the A pillar and tucked the wires behind as well . I'm going to go through it all again in the spring and I like these speakers you install because they fit well I made tabs out of a template and yours comes with one so it's looks better . Also when using a power tool to install speakers be careful of over tightening the screws it can twist the shell of the speaker and make it sound funny after a while .
The worst part about speakers is messing with the door panels! Those stupid fasteners always break! I waited to do these speakers until I got my replacement panels so I only had to do it once! Haha. Maybe I'll do tweeters later! 🤣
Get Sony Mobile ES speaker, you will be very pleasantly surprised for its price and it’s got to be powered by the Sony XM GS4 or an Audio control amplifier for best results.
Wow, I feel your pain!, I swapped out my "Infinities" with Pioneers! I also had my Mechanic install a new A/C system from Rock Auto! What can I say, the old man has to have something nice!
It’s funny with physics, because it’s actually the opposite of what you said about ohms and watts. Less ohms = less resistance. Less resistance, paradoxically is *harder* for the amplifier. You’re more likely to burn out your amp with low ohm speakers than with high ohm speakers. This is because of ohms law: I = U / R If the speaker has low resistance, it allows more power to flow and the amp has to work harder to keep up. Imagine the speaker being a runner on a treadmill and the treadmill being the amp. If the runner is slow, meaning they have high resistance to running fast, the treadmill has an easy job of keeping up with the runner. If the runner is athletic and fast, the opposite occurs and the treadmill has to work much harder to keep up. This means that now with higher resistance, a less powerful amp is not a problem and 48w is the theoretical capacity of the current. With the 2 ohm speaker it would be 12v / 2ohms = 6A and then wattage would be 12^2 / 2ohms = 72 Watts Now with your 3 ohm speaker, it’s instead 48 Watts in the current. Thanks for a good video! I have to upgrade in my ZJ, they’re rattling like crazy. 😊

Hi i have a 5.9 LX Zj with infinity gold audio system in France, i have change the speakers by 1 way Pioneer speakers, how your 2 way can work with the original 1 way ampli installation pls
So I got a question. 4years later May 2024, how are you liking the speakers now. Looking at the same size, and considering these or JBL Club. Any suggestions
I love your videos and am glad you are back to uploading regularly! That being said, my understanding is that you really want to match the resistance of your speakers and radio or amp and not have one higher than the other. Because these speakers have a higher resistance, the amp is going to work harder and potentially blow out significantly quicker. I'm no expert though, so definitely correct me if I'm wrong.
I think you have the concept reversed. Less resistance will allow current to flow easier, Therefore a lower Impedance speaker will be more likely to blow than a higher resistance speaker. If you add more watts (power) like I did with my Pioneer head unit you should increase your speaker impedance. If your speaker impedance is too high you can blow your amp. If your Impedance is too low you can blow your speaker. They all have to be in range of each other mathematically. What's also interesting is that you can multiply or divide your Impedance based on how your system is wired! (Series or parallel). Audio electronics is neat stuff! 🔊🔊🔊 😁
I have a 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited. The speakers Are awful. Can you suggest a brand better. Looking to imitate what you just did simple. Any help will be greatly appreciated Thank You!
I have a 1996 ZJ with the infinity sound system and the original infinity cassette/cd entertainment center. I had my rotted infinity speakers replaced with speakers very much like yours, with tweeters in the middle. I had pros do it. They clipped the wires to the tweeters in the dash because the tweeters in the new speakers took their place, and they told me something about having the new speakers with the tweeters in the middle (which the originals don't) plus the tweeters in the dash would be too much strain on the amplifier. Just FYI.
The built in amp in the Pioneer head unit is more power than the OEM infinity Gold amplifier so I did an amp bypass. I'm not sure why they clipped your tweeters, that's odd, maybe your new speakers have a higher impedance. I went with the infinity reference because they only have 3 ohms impedance each. Eventually Id like to upgrade the dash tweeters too, the pioneer can take it. 😁

you should power subwoofers with an aftermarket amplifier. I wouldn't recommend changing the factory set up. leave the Tweeters alone, unless they're broken.
Shhiiit I had to cut the old speakers to make adapters...or the new 6.5 would just fall in the hole maybe it's an infinity gold thing ....gonna try 6.75 next time
in my Jeeps I usually run my amp power wire through the firewall near the steering column. Then I run it along the rocker under the driver interior kick panels to under the back fold up seat. Then I usually run my RCA's from the head unit down the passenger side of the transmission tunnel to the amp. This way I don't have electrical interference from the power cables going to the RCA cables.
Any idea what's the thickness of the mounting bracket? I have 4.8cm depth in my truck so it will not interfere with the window (when the window is down), and the speaker depth is 5.2cm. If the mounting bracket is 0.4cm or greater thickness then I am good.
Do you have issues with vibrations with these speakers? I have them in my XJ and they sound like they are knocking against the grill of the door panel or something it’s MAD annoying
