Most people will be like he is just following the guitar but actually he was the primary songwriter for Slipknot. Thats a win.

Say what you like about Paul. Whatever people think of the guy aside, I think it's pretty cool that even in a simple bass tab video he still can't resist headbanging. Shows that he was always really into the music.

Chiefy he wasn't the best bassist but them i love him and his bass lines so fuckin much. He inspired me to play bass.

i dont understand peoples problem with the tuning. its just drop b translated to bass.
it says it in the bottom right corner.
Paul Smith problem is you must re-set your neck and bridge if you want proper tension on this tunning, beside that you must use bigger string like 050 on G string to got that low tune.

Why do you need those type of strings?
@@hayden6663 because its like 2 or 3 steps lower than standard tuning. Normal string set like 45-105 are too thin for such low tuning and would buzz alot. Paul used 55-115 which isn't too thin but it's definitely thick enough to have the sound, feel and tension like heavier sets.
@@boogie3718 I cheat a little, I transposed it for 5 string, on this one song it's easy, it's probably less comfortable for other Slipknot songs though, but yeah you'll definitely need larger gauge strings than 45s unless you start fiddling with bridge height and the truss rod, and that's another whole can o' worms, especially truss rod adjustments.
I don't like this particular SlipKnoT song, but Paul's basslines in the choruses are cool. *R.I.P*

The difficulty of a bassline doesn't directly correlate to the quality of the line.
It ain't simple at all, trust me. I tried playing it on my acoustic guitar numerous times

@plyror Its not about using the entire instrument. Thats his standard tuning, C# standard with a dropped B, so the intervals across the fretboard are consistant :) Makes doing extra stuff easier to do/think out and makes writing easier

@plyror Yes he does :) Slipknot play with a low B as do many metal bands though most use BEAD, B standard instead of C# with a dropped B :)

3 things, 1 heavy gauge strings, 2 a sansamp peddal and 3 an ibanez bass
Just watch ,,Behind the player"! He showed his gear he used. So just copy him on the gear to get that good tone that i actually want it too.
