Julia Hartley-Brewer: 'Britain's culture is based on Christian values'

  • Less than half of England and Wales’s population identify as Christian, census figures have revealed for the first time, prompting calls for the role of religion in society to be reconsidered.
Some 46.2% of the population described themselves as Christian on the day of the 2021 census, down from 59.3% in 2011, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
It is the first time the proportion has dropped below half.
Over the same period, the percentage of people saying they had no religion jumped from 25.2% to over a third in 2021 (37.2%).
This was the second most common response and the number ticking this box has almost trebled since 2001.
The Archbishop of York said the decline in people identifying as Christian is “not a great surprise” but acknowledged it “throws down a challenge”.#talktv #census2021 #julia hartley-brewer

The difference is a lot of so called white British as they're grouped won't tick Christainity because they don't practice and go to church. It's also a bit of cool thing to say amongst people as well. These same people also like getting married in churches weirdly :) Whereas a lot of Asian, expecially Muslims will tick the box irrespective as it's much more built into their culture, communities, identity and social lives. Multi-culturism is an illusion if you believe in a country. You have to have a dominant culture in terms of values. You can have a multi-ethnic country absolutely, but you need a dominant culture that drives society and ethics.
One final point, there are a lot more Christains here than you think. South American, Africans and lots of people from Eastern europe. They probably didn't even fill out the censor documents or maybe are even not here legally.

Paul Morland said "Christianity is our origins"
Does he not realise that Christianity is basically a baby compared to how long our ancestors have been on this island? There's been Britons on this island for over 10,000 years. Christianity arrived in the 3rd century, and took centuries more (by FORCE on our Pagan ancestors) to take over it. Then came the dark ages. Then came the enlightenment when we started to grow up and think for ourselves.

But I would be an idiot if I denied the fact that the Christian religion played a big part in the formation of culture, traditions etc of Britian. I see no problem with that. If thats not the case in other country's, thats fine. They have their own culture. The problem that I have is that it seems that all country's are being pushed toward being the same. The problem that Brewer has is that if you follow atheism to its logical conclusion that there is no purpose or meaning or rhyme or reason, good and evil, etc you cannot maintain the values of Christianity. The more secular a society becomes the more chaotic the society becomes. The old philosophers understood this completely well, it always leads to nihilism.
Without an absolute being the foundation of all meaning, morality, purpose, ethics, etc you will end up (as we are seeing) a society where everything turns upside down: Revisionist History, Redefining The Self-Evident Truths, Remodeling Nations on Emotions Rather than Logic, etc. because people begin to set themselves up as their own deities or to try to fill the void of Christianity with their own ideologies and whims/wishes.
