In my opinion Volendrung is one of my favorite weapons ever... I prefer to go for looks rather then stats, BUT Volendrung is good looking AND strong! :)
for those of you that play in a warrior class like me, its a very good idea to invest into enchanting. not only can you skyrocket your armor abilities, you can also null out any "special" quest weapons abilities by enchanting daedric weapons. Also, if you enchant your gauntlets with "one handed grip" ability, it gives an even higher boost to your one handed weapons. Same goes for the "sure grip" enchantment for you two handers out there. Great Vid btw!
The armor cap is somewhere around 600 I believe, you can hit that mark with most armors if your smithing is high enough, you have gear with fortify smithing and a smithing potion. Just wanted to get the info out there.
What no mention of Windshear? That item is awesomely hilarious. It is guaranteed to stagger any enemy on hit- yes, any- and bashing with it causes a split second of paralysis, enough to make the enemy fall over every time. One-on-one, it wins every time. In a larger battle, it's still awesome, you just need to keep turning.
You should have mentioned the Ebony Mail; it has almost the same amount of armor of the Dragon Plate Chestplate, with the muffle effect and the ability to poison people around them. It also looks pretty badass when the poison effect is active.
Something that should be noted is that there IS a cap on armor rating. Regardless of what armor you wear, as long as you have an armor rating of about 667 or higher you should be good to go. At around 667 armor rating, you have 80% damage reduction which is the said max amount. After the said amount, the extra doesn't matter. For example if you have 1,000 armor rating, the extra 333 armor rating is ignored.
The best one-handed weapon is an enchanted daedric sword. If you are at 100 for one-handed, smithing and enchantments, you can enchant your armor to bring the damage for the sword close to 300 not counting another 30 or so extra damage from fire, frost or shock enchantments on the sword.
Find (or buy) gauntlets with that enchantment somewhere (don't worry, they're pretty common) and disenchant them. From there, it's just enchanting. Visit the Skyrim Wiki if you want to lear more about enchanting/enchantments.
windshear is a awsome 1h sword idk bout the base damge but the effect on it is "bash attacks make foes stagger" meaning every hit makes them stagger u get it at the front of the ship the emporer is on during the dark brother hood quests its towrds the end
Chilirend's damage and abilities change based on the level you are at when you reach it. If you get the sword at level 40 + its as good as an ebony sword.
Loot is randomized in the game. You technically can find any armour/weapons or enchanted armour/weapons at any level. However the way the game is structured is so that the chance of finding better armour and weapons at lower levels is next to impossible. Naturally this does not apply to unique armour or armour that you obtain for doing certain things. You can only get shrouded armour for doing either dark brotherhood questline and you can only get chillrend in the one place for example.
Or, you can just go to the steed stone which grants +100 carry weight and no penalty for wearing heavy armor, which means you can run faster with it on, and there is a perk for heavy armor where you take half damage when falling.
i think you're wrong on the Volendrung, its enchantment is REALLY useful because it drains 50 stamina and THAT means you can do more charged attacks, it's like you do not use your stamina since it's absorbed by the hammer.
you forgot to mention the Ebony Blade, its not as strong attack wise, but the health absorb rate is amazing, and the bonus of never having to recharge souls is nice
No offense MrRhexx but in my opinion for the weapon I would simply choose the Ebony Mail for the Chestplate because if you are 5 feet away from an enemy it will be poisoned and it has an insane amount of armor and for the weapon I would choose the Ebony Blade because if you hit someone you will gain health every time you hit them
I like the Volendrun a lot.... Its GREAT for constant Power Moves without running out of stamina, and if you use your magic ability to swing your weapon faster, its perfect.
I know it's a bit too late to ask you to change the video, but in terms of one-handed weapons, I believe Windshear is the way forward... while the official enchantment given to it isn't very good, it staggers the target when you hit them 100% of the time, meaning they can't fight back. Great video though, it helped me out a lot :D
Actually the Volendrung enchant is pretty strong. What resource is consumed by power attacks? Stamina. Running? Stamina. What do warriors do? Power attack and charge to ranged enemies. Volendrung solves the problem of resource management.
Remember that to get chillrend and nightingale blade at the most power you have to finish the theives guild questline late. I'm not sure what level, somewhere 30-45 range i think
In my opinion the Windshear is the best one-handed weapon because it knocks back the enemy so you don't have to worry about being damaged to much. You get it on The Katiarah ship for the Dark Brotherhood questline. Like if you think so too!
I don't use spell breaker because the ward when broken staggers your character and that stagger leaves you open to being attacked for unblocked damage (which at low levels and/or on legendary can be FATAL!)
Quick Note: There's actually an armor rating limit. The limit is 567, so as long as your armor rating is 567 or above, you'll get the max damage resistance, 80%, I believe. Aside from that, fantastic video!
Sure the Konahrik Helmet has those special effects, but if you get all the perks in heavy armor than the Dragonplate helmet will give you way more armor
The way the game used to work was the regular Daedric armor was better than the regular Dragonplate armor. This only changed when the Dragonplate armor was smithed to legendary, which was something that you could easily do after forging the Dragonplate armor.
the ebony blade that you get from the whispering lady is a must have for any warrior. The blade makes you more powerful in close combat then any other weapon you can get. You can not die while using the blade it drains health and goes straight to your health. The blade also is must faster then any other two handed sword in the hole game even faster then most one handed swords. If you wanna be unstoppable there is no better sword in the game.
actually it's good if you have a very well developed two handed skill tree. by having all 5 damage buffs for the 2-handed weapons as well as the -25% stamina cost for power attacks, combined with the specialization for warhammers that ignores a certain amount of armor, you can just simply whail on enemies endlessly, it's all a matter of strategy. :D Although i do believe that all daedric artifacts shouldn't run out of "gas" when it comes to their enchantments.
In my opinion, Rhagot is the best dragon priest mask to wear as a melee character. Maybe its just my playstyle with a heavy armor, shield, one-handed tank loadout. the extra 70 stamina works wonders, and it also has the same base-armor as the daedric helmet.
i made a sneak character who uses heavy armor. all u need is the invisibility spell from illusion, muffled boots enchantment and the perk the reduces the amount of sound armor makes.
The room before the boss during the Deathbrand quest. You need Dragonborn DLC to get there. Considering it was also a random drop it might not show up there.
Find an weapon with that enchant, then destroy the item at the enchantment table. Just check every chest you see to find the enchanted items. Then you Learn the enchantment. Then you enchant by putting in a soul gem (the bigger the soul the better), the Item you want to enchant, then the weapon you want to enchant.
I totally agree. I have a daedric 2h Warhammer which does a rather OP 485 dmg and armour which is way over the cap. This was the best I could think of. I have looked everywhere for artifacts or other things which could be better but i think smithing/enchanting really can outdo everything in the game.
If you have the Dragonborn DLC, the best armor in the game is actually the Deathband armor set. The Deathband individual pieces are not very good, but when you have the whole set on you have +100 armor rating My character has somewhere around 380 armor rating because of this.
as far as i know the dadric armor has never been better then dragon but the weapons is as you say. also you got 2 remember that there is a armor cap (572 i think it is) and you will get far above it if you take just a few points in the heavy armor tree
the actual armor cap in skyrim is 567 so the game neglects any armor rating exceeding the cap , so in skyrim light armor is better than heavy armor because ultimately both of them will reach the cap , you can also reach the cap with a fully tempered steel armor.
While these armour sets are all well and good, I personally recommend the Deathbrand set from the Dragonborn DLC alongside the two swords Bloodscythe and Soulrender. The stats are: Deathbrand Helm: Waterbreathing, +100 Armor when wearing full set Deathbrand Boots: +10 Carrying Capacity for each piece worn Deathbrand Gauntlets: +10 One-Handed damage for each piece you wear while dual-wielding Deathbrand Armor: +15 Stamina for each piece you wear Bloodscythe: When wielded with Soulrender, absorb 15 Health and can lower target's Armour Soulrender: When wielded with Bloodscythe, absorb 15 Magicka and can lower target's Magic Resistance It is a Light Armour set and benefits from both the Arcane Blacksmith perk and Ebony Smithing perk. Because of the +100 Armour feature from wearing the full set, Deathbrand gives a higher base Armour rating than Daedric's base Armour rating, including the shield. The weapons also benefit from the two Smithing perks.
+dapoculos13 Really, the armor set is good, but the one thing I hate is that the legendary sets have enchants. I just use my own gear. I now have armor that has better enchants.
Maynerd Derpinson I respect your style of play, but I do think we can both agree that this particular build is excellent for playing on Master or Legendary difficulty. Out of curiosity, could you tell me a bit more about your build?
+Last Dragonborn Yes, the deathbrand armor is broken for dual wielding, but I just hate how it looks, daedric and dragonplate and such look really good. But then you have deathbrand xD
My tank looks really bad ass! He wears the falmer hardened armor (dawnguard dlc) with daedric gloves and boots, and the fire dragon priest mask (from the dragonborn dlc). He uses an ebony battle ax with health and stamina regen. Pretty strong.
here's what i do: i upgrade smithing (for daedric armor) and enchanting up to 2 enchants on one item. Then i enchant the gloves -40% damage with 1handed weapons and 40% damage with bows (versus dragons) and the other parths of the full daedric armor (health, one handed damage and bow damage, where availoable) and this means my ordinary daedric mace would do about 250 damage ( two hits knock down a gigant, i think) then i an ordinary ring and a necklace (same thing as above)
what happens if you sell a dragon mask and you cant find it any more? because thats what i done by accident and when i had enough money to get it back it was too late
go to Whiterun then Jorvaskr, in there go downstairs and down the hall way you will see 2 guys speak ask the old one Kodlak Whitemain (dont know how to spell it) and ask him if you can join the campanions, and then finish the questline hope it helped :))
For this paticular weapon it does. go on the wiki. your character level determines its base dmg and frost dmg. at level 46 its as strong as dragonbone sword at 36 its as strong as a daedric sword
you didnt take into account the heavy armor skilltree skill which grants bonus armor if you are wearing all heavy armor and it is a complete set. and the greater level smithing on a weapon, the more the damage will scale when you improve it at a forge. deadric weapons are the strongest, and the dragon plate helmet will increase your armor way more than the korhnariik or whatever the walrus mask is called.
you can hit the armor cap with any armor in the game, without matching set bonuses. With dragonplate you just need the 5 perks for heavy armor and a bit of smithing, nothing too hard to get. matching set bonuses are only worthwhile with low quality armors and low smithing skills.
There isn't really any specific ones I can think of. For necklace, though, I use the Amulet of Talos since I like using the Shouts a lot, as I find they're helpful in many uses, such as crowd control. That's just me though.
isnt armor rating useless at such high amounts since the max is around 567 or something, you hit a limit where the damage absorbed doesnt get any higher, even if the armor rating number can get higher, so if your smithing is maxed like mine you can make a set of steel armor just as useful as dragon/daedric
Well... the dragon helmet will do sooooo much more because of the perk in heavy armor that u get a 25% bonus. With that said the dragon helmet can be enchanted with archery, two-handed, and one-handed. Honestly there is little debate of which is better.
Yea, I already know that. But this video is uploaded BEFORE Dawnguard was released, so Dragonbone Weapons isn't available yet when this video was uploaded.
In this video, the author used mods on a PC. If you want dragonbone weapons (they are awsome and better then daedric ones) you have to buy/download dawnguard. Cheers!
I do almost 200 damage with each deadric sword i have dual wielding and it occasionally does a glitch where i don't have to wait to swing the sword again, it just does it every time i tell it too and wait for it to hit the target, and I don't find the game boring, just put the game difficulty on master and try to explore everywhere to find quests, better not to fast travel too if you have the time. You think you're done with the game, but there's always something too do.
Looks weird unless you think of it as casting a kind of dome shaped ward which acts as the shield, I can't decide between legendary glass shield of extreme blocking and the spellbreaker but I only travel with about 160 carry weight and I have the steed stone and legendary elven boots of the ox so I just carry them both.
You should mention that to get the best possible versions of the unique weapons, you need to be above level 46. The lower the level you are the weaker the base damage and the enchantment of the weapon will have.
With 100 skill in one-handed, I had twin ebony war axes that did a total of 94. I got that because of the perk where dual wielding increases weapon damage X2
if you have your health in a good spot and have a good armor rating you can just ignore a shield and go around with dual legendary deadric swords and do just fine, my swords do 101 damage each so im pretty much set
We'll, if you like two-handed weapons, go for the Ebony Blade. This katana-like sword deals more damage when you kill people with it who trust you. It also takes the health from enemies you have dealt, and it heals you. I no longer die or even get close to dying... on the hardest difficulty.
Even with the final update (1.9.32.8 I think) Daedric is still stronger than Dragonplate, which I think is weird. I don't know if it's fixed with the unofficial skyrim patch, but it should.
Though, you shouldn't think of that, the game is like 80% NOT having hit the armor cap. So ofc heavy armor is better for the first 80% at some points, and the light armor also for some points. I never look at caps, when I hit the armor cap I just make a new character, otherwise it gets boring.
as you can still just do the enchanting and get that maxed, and just do 2 enchants on all gear even weapons and get most of those same skills varied as you would want your char built.
Here is what I use Konahrik Ebony Mail Daedric Gauntlets Daedric Boots I use any unique shield because the shields unique enchantments are the coolest enchantments in the game These are my recommended weapons to use Windshear (it is op) Dragonbane Mace of molag bal Daedric war axe Daedric greatsword Daedric battleaxe Volendrung (it swings faster than the ordinary warhammer) Longhammer (just like volendrung and you can use elemental fury with it)
No it depends on your ply style the heavy armor has a 10% chance to reflect ay damage done to you which, in my opinion is better than the stamina regen but all in all i'd say they're pretty even
What bugs me the most about this video, Chillrend in particular, was that I did the thieves guild questline first. Since Chillrend is leveled, it was no where near that strong.
Wouldn't it still be as strong as daedric but have the effect? I mean...even tho its not as strong as in the vid im sure the effect is still worthy of use
i figured it out. right now its not as strong, but it seems to be getting stronger as i level up. so when i get to his level, i think it might. but idk
doesn't matter wich armor set are u use, i use full dragon and i have over 1000 armor, and the cap is about 550 armor, so it doesn't really matter what u use. U can reach it with hide armor...
or instead of any of this, u can jsut use light armour, dual 1handed blades. and enchant ur gear with fortify 1handed. and basicaly one shot anything with a power attack. (with the exception of certain dragons and other hard mobs)
When I play Skyrim I do a mix of light and heavy armor. I do (right now) a steel helmet, iron gauntlets and boots, and studded armor of the minor squire. (only level 13 tho)
I'm not telling you how to play, but that's sort of a terrible idea because you won't get either of the set bonuses for heavy or light armor, but hey if you like that then you do you
I swear man im not lying, in a chest on a dragon lair. I read on the skyrim wiki (even though its a wiki and it may not be true) you can find dragon armor at lower levels but it is extremely rare.
Best heavy armor: Daedric
Best light armor: Dragonscale
In my opinion Volendrung is one of my favorite weapons ever... I prefer to go for looks rather then stats, BUT Volendrung is good looking AND strong! :)
Volendrong is the best two handed wepon in the game.
Supericegabriel The best two handed weapon is the Longhammer. Most dps in game.
TonyGAMING Volendrug swings faster than regular War hammers, maybe as fast as an axe but I'm not sure. So it is GREAT! I love it :D
volendureg effect is super effective! you bassicly can spam power attacks because you drain the stamina back
for those of you that play in a warrior class like me, its a very good idea to invest into enchanting. not only can you skyrocket your armor abilities, you can also null out any "special" quest weapons abilities by enchanting daedric weapons. Also, if you enchant your gauntlets with "one handed grip" ability, it gives an even higher boost to your one handed weapons. Same goes for the "sure grip" enchantment for you two handers out there. Great Vid btw!
"The link is in the description." Sweet!
"This video is unavailable." Fuck!
i hate when that happens
The armor cap is somewhere around 600 I believe, you can hit that mark with most armors if your smithing is high enough, you have gear with fortify smithing and a smithing potion. Just wanted to get the info out there.
The cap is 576
Sorry it's 567
You're both wrong. It ranges from 667 to 542 depending on if you're wearing a full set of armour, a shield, or no armour at all.
no...its 567
John Zoiberg
667: No armor
567: Full set (no shield)
542: Full set w/ shield
Daedric base rating is lower than dragonplate
Both smithed at a workbench daedric comes out higher, nuff said.
Please don't try to contradict me. I have so much knowledge about lore, gameplay you name it.
PursuedGamer Really? What's the capital of Blackmarsh then?
Did you even bother to check it? Daedric armor have higher base rating. Look at them in Creation Kit if you don't believe me.
TheShadowSentinel
Oh don't mind me, just passing though, this discussion seems really important.
dragonplate looks cooler
What no mention of Windshear? That item is awesomely hilarious. It is guaranteed to stagger any enemy on hit- yes, any- and bashing with it causes a split second of paralysis, enough to make the enemy fall over every time. One-on-one, it wins every time. In a larger battle, it's still awesome, you just need to keep turning.
In my game, Daedric is still better than Dragonbone, and I have the Legendary Edition, full updated
Me too!!!
You should have mentioned the Ebony Mail; it has almost the same amount of armor of the Dragon Plate Chestplate, with the muffle effect and the ability to poison people around them. It also looks pretty badass when the poison effect is active.
This is wrong. Daedric armor is better than dragon. Dragon weapons are better than daedric :/
My dragon plate armor is better than daedric in my game
xXDeathownzzzXx dragon weapons are a litter higher but way a lot more and to be honest daedric weapons a lot better
There is no dragon weapons tho... Unless its a dlc thing.
I FOUND DRAGONPLATE GAUNTLETS AT LVL 40!!!!
We all did
i smithed full dragonplate set at lvl 30
You can find dragonplate armour AROUND lvl 50 not AT lvl 50 and above
You get Chillrend through the Thieves Guild quest line, it's in a display case in Mercer Frey's house in Riften
Chilirend's damage and abilities change based on the level you are at when you reach it.
If you get the sword at level 40 + its as good as an ebony sword.
It is SkyUI.
read the information to make sure you get everything else required, i.e. SKSE, etc.
Loot is randomized in the game. You technically can find any armour/weapons or enchanted armour/weapons at any level. Volendrung's effect is definitely worth it,you can just keep power attacking and the effect restores your stamina as you go.
You can spam power attacks with Volendrung because it has that absorb stamina enchantment. That is why it's my favorite war hammer.
Dragonscale armor. You need to get smithing to a 100 or find it randomly at chests at lvl 50. You can unlock it at the same time that Dragonbone armor
you forgot to mention the Ebony Blade, its not as strong attack wise, but the health absorb rate is amazing, and the bonus of never having to recharge souls is nice
Its GREAT for constant Power Moves without running out of stamina, and if you use your magic ability to swing your weapon faster, its perfect.
the ebony mail is also a AMAZING piece of armor and has a nice power on it
why are the colors and details so amazing?
You can Chillrend by lockpicking a display case in the Thalmar Embassy. But its a Expert level lock so it might be tough.
The weapon hit points also depend on your character and what you have leveled up
I know it's a bit too late to ask you to change the video, but in terms of one-handed weapons, I believe Windshear is the way forward... while the official enchantment given to it isn't very good, it staggers the target when you hit them 100% of the time, meaning they can't fight back. In my opinion the Windshear is the best one-handed weapon because it knocks back the enemy so you don't have to worry about being damaged to much.
You get it on The Katiarah ship for the Dark Brotherhood questline.
Like if you think so too!
for 80% physical damage reduction, you can also use the dragonscale alteration spell
I don't use spell breaker because the ward when broken staggers your character and that stagger leaves you open to being attacked for unblocked damage (which at low levels and/or on legendary can be FATAL!)

Sure the Konahrik Helmet has those special effects, but if you get all the perks in heavy armor than the Dragonplate helmet will give you way more armor
or just use the heavy armor perk conditioning, which makes your armor use no carry weight when worn and you can run just the same as in light armor
auriels shield is pretty damn good to. It's like an offensive version of the spell breaker and is found in the forgotten veil from the dawnguard dlc
The way the game used to work was the regular Daedric armor was better than the regular Dragonplate armor. This only changed when the Dragonplate armor was smithed to legendary, which was something that you could easily do after forging the Dragonplate armor.

It's going to be released on 360/PS3 later on, not sure when but probably within the next few months.
The room before the boss during the Deathbrand quest. You need Dragonborn DLC to get there. Considering it was also a random drop it might not show up there.
correction you can find any armour but its extremely rare to find stuff like that because i got dragon plate chest with enchantments at lvl 40
did you finish all the quests for the campanions, i forgot to mention that you have to become the leader of the campanions
Dragon Bone Weapons that you have increses the armor of dragon plate armor as well, Rhexx. Just so you know its not a patch.
There's a boat in a river near karthspire and in it a ton of rare gems always spawn.
Find an weapon with that enchant, then destroy the item at the enchantment table. Just check every chest you see to find the enchanted items. Then you Learn the enchantment. Then you enchant by putting in a soul gem (the bigger the soul the better), the Item you want to enchant, then the weapon you want to enchant.

how did u make your dragon Armour black and red ??
I got the Wuuthrad on level 10 so it's nice to know I don't have to worry about any weapons in the rest of the playthrough...
If you have the Dragonborn DLC, the best armor in the game is actually the Deathband armor set. The Deathband individual pieces are not very good, but when you have the whole set on you have +100 armor rating My character has somewhere around 380 armor rating because of this.

While these armour sets are all well and good, I personally recommend the Deathbrand set from the Dragonborn DLC alongside the two swords Bloodscythe and Soulrender. The stats are:
Deathbrand Helm: Waterbreathing, +100 Armor when wearing full set
Deathbrand Boots: +10 Carrying Capacity for each piece worn
Deathbrand Gauntlets: +10 One-Handed damage for each piece you wear while dual-wielding
Deathbrand Armor: +15 Stamina for each piece you wear
Bloodscythe: When wielded with Soulrender, absorb 15 Health and can lower target's Armour
Soulrender: When wielded with Bloodscythe, absorb 15 Magicka and can lower target's Magic Resistance
It is a Light Armour set and benefits from both the Arcane Blacksmith perk and Ebony Smithing perk.

+Last Dragonborn Im playing khajiit and it looks dumb xD

here's what i do: i upgrade smithing (for daedric armor) and enchanting up to 2 enchants on one item. Then i enchant the gloves -40% damage with 1handed weapons and 40% damage with bows (versus dragons) and the other parths of the full daedric armor (health, one handed damage and bow damage, where availoable) and this means my ordinary daedric mace would do about 250 damage ( two hits knock down a gigant, i think) then i an ordinary ring and a necklace (same thing as above)
what happens if you sell a dragon mask and you cant find it any more? because thats what i done by accident and when i had enough money to get it back it was too late
go to Whiterun then Jorvaskr, in there go downstairs and down the hall way you will see 2 guys speak ask the old one Kodlak Whitemain (dont know how to spell it) and ask him if you can join the campanions, and then finish the questline
hope it helped :))
With dragonplate you just need the 5 perks for heavy armor and a bit of smithing, nothing too hard to get. matching set bonuses are only worthwhile with low quality armors and low smithing skills.
weight wouldn't matter if you get the heavy armor perk that takes away the heavy armors weight.
Dude I just started watching the video and I love the Daedric textures
Well... the dragon helmet will do sooooo much more because of the perk in heavy armor that u get a 25% bonus.
Cheers!
You forgot to include the factor of the 50% armor bonus in heavy armor skill tree
Chillrend defiantly looks awesome but if you want it with it's best stats wait till level 46 then go get it
if you have your health in a good spot and have a good armor rating you can just ignore a shield and go around with dual legendary deadric swords and do just fine, my swords do 101 damage each so im pretty much set
I think it depends on how leveled your 2 handed damage perk is, and maybe what level you are when you get it..maybe
Just saying that armor combonation looks freaking beast :)
Here is what I use
Konahrik
Ebony Mail
Daedric Gauntlets
Daedric Boots
I use any unique shield because the shields unique enchantments are the coolest enchantments in the game
These are my recommended weapons to use
Windshear (it is op)
Dragonbane
Mace of molag bal
Daedric war axe
Daedric greatsword
Daedric battleaxe
Volendrung (it swings faster than the ordinary warhammer)
Longhammer (just like volendrung and you can use elemental fury with it)
the best weapon is the ebony blade,it's a greatsword with good damage, and it swings as fast as a dagger
if you're going for armor stats. you shouldn't use a DP Mask. for the perk that "same set bonus" it's so much better to keep it to Daedric
I mean...even tho its not as strong as in the vid im sure the effect is still worthy of use
i figured it out. right now its not as strong, but it seems to be getting stronger as i level up. so when i get to his level, i think it might. but idk
I have found a dragonplate armor enchanted in a gaint camp outside od whiterun, when I am level 27.
doesn't matter wich armor set are u use, i use full dragon and i have over 1000 armor, and the cap is about 550 armor, so it doesn't really matter what u use. U can reach it with hide armor...
Once you complete the main Companion storyline you can make any of them a follower.
or instead of any of this, u can jsut use light armour, dual 1handed blades. and enchant ur gear with fortify 1handed. and basicaly one shot anything with a power attack.
I read on the skyrim wiki (even though its a wiki and it may not be true) you can find dragon armor at lower levels but it is extremely rare.
the mask has the best base armor rating in the game. idk why your dragonplate stuff is so good, but im guessing it is perk related.
