I used to use a big tote and dip a dozen at a time. Good stuff. Don’t dip your snares or restraints. It’ll clump up on the low hanging spots and you’ll have to scrape that clump off.
I just spray paint my traps (K-9s in bright red), let dry, and then dip in Zep High-Traffic Floor polish to protect them. Beats dying and waxing the old way. BTW, the bright red is so I can see if the trap was pulled out of its bed when running the line.
They look awesome, I got away from logwood dye and wax a couple years ago, hit them with rust paint, let them sit a week and then dip them in full metal jacket, seems to be the ticket for me
I tried using that dip about 5 years ago and it ended up being a disaster!!!! I dipped 4 dozen traps, let them dry for over three weeks outside in the Texas sun. Waxed them and put them in totes about a week later. They were in the totes for about three weeks before I headed out to start my trap line. When I open the first tote I could smell gas. At first I thought the smell was coming from my four wheeler that I had just filled up. Unfortunately it wasn’t the four wheeler. I went ahead and knock in about 20 sets that day. I left the lids off of the totes in hope that the smell would go away. The next morning on my first check nine of the traps were dug up and 3 more had been scratched at. I ended up driving 212 miles back to the house the next day to get sone old traps that I hadn’t use the dip on. I left the totes in the shed with lids off and they still smelled like gas a month later.I ended up having to sandblast them and soak them in lacquer thinner the next summer to get rid of the smell. I started using Formula One trap dip and it is amazing!!! I hope you it works out for you.
Hope it works for you,it’s like a ritual for me boiling and waxing traps I’ve still got some forty couple year old victors I’ve had and never noticed any difference in the way they fire. The only thing is it takes a big box of beer to getter done.lol
Ever used Formula 1? A friend of mine has a few dig ups every season and he believes it to be the speed dip. Never used Speed Dip before but have had food luck with Formula 1. Super fast. Traps are ready in a couple days after dipping. Tight chains!
go to lowes and get zep high traffic floor pollish they say it works as good as fmj ,just let the traps air out good before you put them in a tote . i'm thinking about trying it.
Didnt catch the part on how u rusted new traps up. I use muriatic acid and dip em them neutralize. I like using coleman fuel for speed dip. One quart SD to a gallon coleman fuel i did about 120 traps and still have a bunch left over for next year. Protects the traps in saltwater pretty good.
I like you videos,, just a note ,water boils at 220° Max !! An No way would that change the temper on a coil spring.. Most Likely they were weak Before they went in the water .. I been wanting to try that dip ,but I'm really old school ,, glad your doing it first ..lol
smart man not opening the Roof up, not fun when it starts to leak in time. DUDE these fires are something else happening its nuts. dude im blown away you have to mix that with gas though, i know you read the odor would evaporate but damn thats something different. I see more and more trappers including the old timer I learned from switching over being easier and quicker so I may have to give this a shot.
hey im just wondering. i used this on all my canine traps. cause of my job i only had 3weeks to trap. i dyed them using speed dip with high octane gas and after 7 days all my traps are tacky and smell of gas. is this a common thing with speed dip. iv always used powdered dyes or walnuts and with these iv never seen this problem. i want to salvage my season ;D
How’d that work out? I’ve always been farther gas smell would stay on the trap but evidently it doesn’t, have you noticed any catch differences? Thanks man.
Leave then in for about a minute. That way u don't have too double dip . Just a tip for ya next time. And like i already said use walnuts pick them now and clack them. Let them set . As in walnuts. Boil them and start dipping. Its old fashioned way buddy. How i do everything. The good lord gave us all everything too use. Hehe. And then let's drink a beer. 😉😉😉😉
I think ur sinus r mest up by the fires cause im in Illinois an my r mest up to an i dont wair a mask. And i didnt see what u used to make the traps rusty but i just put my traps in salt water for acouple hrs an let them dry an in 24 hrs they have a nice coat of rust on them
"I'm going to be stained for life" says the man with all the awesome Tats! 🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣
Little different

I'm glad you're using speed dip with gas. Now I'll really see how well it dissipates before season.. Me I was sleert !!

I’m going to find out man I’m going to let em hang till season
Been using speed dip for years, catch everything, no problems at all ?
Hope it works for you,it’s like a ritual for me boiling and waxing traps I’ve still got some forty couple year old victors I’ve had and never noticed any difference in the way they fire. The only thing is it takes a big box of beer to getter done.lol
Once I get more traps, that speed dip seems like a good option. Nice man cave you got going on there.
They turned out great!!! Nice set up going on there!!

Always been hesitant to dip in gas to but I gotta say the traps look real good.
Good show dude.
Peace Brotha.
The trapping shed is looking really good
That's interesting wonder what else you could dip in that seems quick and easy 👍👍
Man that barn is comming along good

Lazy Sunday nice weather sitting in the carport reloading a batch of 223 watching me some trapper j it's a good day
Man that’s a lot easier than all the stuff I’ve been doing lol I may swap over to that 👍👍👍
WOW I can't believe that dyes them that quick!!
Please tell me about trapping in salt water? What are you trapping? That seems like it would be tough on traps! Thanks man.
Andy Stoe's Speed Dip. He was from Penn Yan NY. He also has the Buckwheat Hull trap cover, he was a Great guy.

I still might it’s cheaper lol
Hole in roof lol
TRAPPER J yea we always went through the roof had one boot leak on our camp once either either way works
Quick question why do you dye the traps?
I'll be watching to see how it holds up. I used FMJ for the first time. curious how it holds up too
Bad ass stuff I’ve used the white color before thanks for sharing
great tip on the speed dip ,nice job.
That's just what a lazy man like me needs LOL
Did you do this with your beaver traps like mb 750s and ts 85s?
I just use walnuts. It works great . U did that. Am sure u got them there. Its that time of year for them .
Ya I’ve done that to
You'd have to really overdue the heat to draw the temper outta the springs I mean 500-600 degrees
Hey I’m just repeating what I heard at the convention
Why do you wax them. Just curious?
I wounder how well it would work on conabears
How long do u have to let them sit to get the gas smell off them
Nice set up!!!
Pour it right back in gas can.And mark can?I don't know about you but them gas cans seem to multiply.
When they dried did they look as good as the traps we seen at the convention
What can i use for a fleshing beam im new to trapping
They look good. Way faster than boiling dye
I know this 3 yrs later but do you still use this speed dip
I got of that. Glad you put this up before I did mine.
Seasons getting close!! Can’t wait!!
I use maple bark and lefes to dye my traps😊
What about paint thiner instead of gas
Thanks for making this video. I need to dye and wax my traps.
Looks good TJ new challenge come on everybody TJ stick his foot in bucket
I see the knife my step dad made on your white shelf with the antler handle lol

Gotta go this in the summer well before the season so they can air out
Shit J dont spark a joint around that gas. Go BOOM LOL
How’d that work out? I’ve always been farther gas smell would stay on the trap but evidently it doesn’t, have you noticed any catch differences? Thanks man.
Nah I caught fur just fine I just didn’t like having to air em out a few months so I’m trying the water mix this season
Hay next time you dye traps use a drep pan that empty's back into your bucket of dye .
Put the bucket in between the truck and the drying rack. Save time and energy
Man I might be done with boiling up dye after watching that!
Leave then in for about a minute. That way u don't have too double dip . Just a tip for ya next time. And like i already said use walnuts pick them now and clack them. Let them set . As in walnuts. Pretty cool 😎
My town just about got burned up from the wildfires in oregon. All the town's around us got destroyed
I got my hat in the mail today its cool
Thanks man
Sweet to thanks brother!
A challenge for you!! Justify the practice of dyeing traps when you intend to bury them?? I believe its the monkey see, monkey do syndrome??
All it is ...is asphalt base driveway sealer .
