    Good video. I found that removing the fan made it so much easier. It takes an extra five minutes to remove three bolts and undo two clips. You gain way more access to everything!

      He’s talking about the shroud I believe, it’s 3 bolts on top and 2 clips on the lower sides IIRC

    Some hints for people who will attempt this. I had to move the alternator up and down to loosen but it was not enough to remove it with my hands. I had to use a crow bar to get the alternator out of the place where the bottom bolt went through. Do it carefully and don't touch the pully nearby. In regards to pulling it out all together, i almost gave up because it was not coming straight out. I did have to turn it and angle it out. I wish he would have shown him doing the work but i am grateful for the shortcut.

      Same here. I turned it up pulley facing me upwards and just kept wiggling it out.

      I changed my alternator because I thought that was the issue, than the car kept giving out on me, so I was like it had to be the battery, so I changed that. But my battery light is still popping up here and there while driving. Is this what happened to you ?

    So thankfully this video exists, I did the job today on my sons 2003 Accord. A few tips. One other person posting here had the same issue I did. It would hang up on something after removing the upper and lower bolts. Just wiggling it does not help. You need to rotate it upward as you lift up on the alternator. The bottom bolt hole on the alternator is nested between two guide holes with the back one being the threaded one. Second, unless you remove the upper bracket that the upper bolt and wire harness is bolted to, the alternator is never going to come out. Extremely tight. Take a picture of it before you remove the bracket so you can see how to put it back.Third, when replacing the alternator, I would replace the back cable first as trying to hold the lock washer and nut with one hand in the limited space is very difficult once the alternator is back in place. It took me two hours to do the job. I couldn't have done it without this video.

    Hi, if either the top or bottom screw was seized, how difficult of a repair is that? I feel my current mechanic is giving me the run around, my car has been there for a week. Great video, I think I'll be doing my alternator myself from now on.

    • @GarageBoys

      As you can see in the video we have basic tools and it didn’t take us much time, if your screw was seized at a shop it would complicate the job but your mechanic should be able to fix that quick. Whole job shouldn’t take him more than a day

    I have a 2003 Accord v6. I just did this job tonight. I had to remove the fan. No 2 ways about it. The alternator was just slightly different than the one shown in this video (connections in slightly different orientation). So either there is a slight difference in the depth of the alternator between the years, or perhaps the one you were pulling was an aftermarket vs me pulling the OEM. I don't know. Would have been nice if I could have pulled it the way you said, but no dice. Now, why did you edit out the portion where you actually removed it? Considering the title of the video, that's just strange. Is it because you had to get brutal with it?

    • @GarageBoys
      @GarageBoys  5 років тому

      I have a video on my “Honda Repairs” Playlist showing how to remove the alternator on a 98-2002 Accord and on that removal you have to take off the fan, no way around that, maybe that’s the one you have? 2) I tried to make the video as short and straight to the point as possible. I didn’t think it was necessary to show how I actually pull out the alternator but it does require some back and fort wiggling. If you read through the comment you will see different responses from different people that did the job. Hope I helped, I do try hard :-)

      There is a bushing that needs to pushed back in towards the wheel. Take a 1/2 socket, thread the long bolt through the socket, and pry the bushing towards the wheel with a small pry bar or flat screwdriver.

    You definitely skipped the part where you took out the bolt that’s on the outer side, now I got the alternator off but the bolt isn’t on stable grounds to take off 😅

    My honda accord is now dead and won't start, I just replaced the starter a few weeks ago. Last time I checked the red battery light was on the dashboard while I was driving. So I'm assuming its the alternator.

    I went through all the steps and the belt is way to tight where is the adjustment? The alternator cant get any closer to the block

    • @GarageBoys
      @GarageBoys  5 років тому +1

      No adjustment on the alternator, the belt tensioner takes care of the tension on the belt. Maybe you didn’t run the belt properly? Also make sure new alternator has the same pulley? But I don’t think the pulley would be different

    Why did you skip the part where you put the physical alternator in?

    Not being a dick. Theres a tool called a tensioner as well. Most auto shops will loan them to you. Nice video btw.

    At what point , after all of this do we " DISCONNECT THE BATTERY CABLES BEFORE WE SHOCK OURSELVES, !!!!!!!!!!!!"" come on man "SAFETY, SAFETY, SAFETY ",,,

    • @joshuadoe9541
      @joshuadoe9541 6 років тому

      rcast22651 doesn't need to worry about getting shocked, 12v isn't enough to hurt you. What you need to worry about is hydrogen gas in the battery igniting and exploding from a spark, which again would probably never happen lol
