Every time my wife, two adult children and new Granddaughter go see my wife's mom and brother in Central Ohio. They always go to Trader Joe's. I get so many pictures from there. Joe's have alot of interesting items. I always tell them to bring me some snacks back. Some how those snacks never make it home. One day soon I will be able to take a few days vacation and go myself to checkout Trader Joe's. Great video today. I always look forward to your review every Sunday.
Suggestion: maybe at the end of the tasting segment you could read off the ingredients of the items (in this case the entree) and you could have an Ah Ha! moment where you identify what that flavor is? I see you got the Fire Blanket 👍🏻 I hope you never have to use it.
That would be a good idea, especially for those things that escape me. Thanks for the blanket. I have filmed a segment addressing it but it’s going to be in a future video that may not be out for a few weeks. Very much appreciate the thought!
No TJ's in my area. Without my readers on I can't see the ingredients anyway so let's keep it a surprise lol. Finally, for whatever reason a person is putting these together whether it be camping, shtf, or the apocalypse food boredom is a thing so your desire to find new items is a good thing! Keep them coming!
I had never really tracked that TJs is a snack store. I stopped shopping there years ago because I felt like I never had any real food and was just snacking all day. I had a moment of realization when you said that. Now I know where I'm stocking up for my next road trip, and I can get all the TJs stuff I miss from years ago.
I accidentally stumbled on your videos. I had no idea people do homemade MRE. Or sourced. I pass a Trader Joe's every day after work. I'm stopping to grab some of these. Thank you for these videos. Subbed up today !
When I was still living in the US, there were no TJ stores near. The folks that purchased the home next to me would often bring their favourite products from TJ with them when they would come for a week of R&R. So yes, I have tried a few of the Trader Joe's items. Apple and carrot work well for maintaining proper nutrition. Beautiful Bride does "power juice" for me in a masticating juicer just like I did in the states. A good handful of fresh parsley, a slice of raw red beet, plenty of fresh carrots and an apple or two to sweeten things up. I believe it will keep an old man healthy. You have a winning formula for your videos. May I suggest only making small changes one at a time to test the waters.
Your vids are so cool to watch. I have hundreds of typical MRE/International, but your idea is great. I have a Trader Joe's close by, but have never entered.
Good single serve coffee, dried fruits, great snack bars, unique beer selection. The frozen food selection is amazing. Good spices and spice combinations too, at a decent price.
I gotta disagree about the “walk around” part. The one in my area has awful parking and the people who shop there are rude and self-important. I had a really hard time doing this video because so many people would just park themselves in front of a shelf and take their sweet time not considering there were other people trying to get to that section. I think it’s the compact size of the store and the number of shoppers cramming in there but ours is definitely not fun to be in.
I notice when you buy a beverage for your MRE, you have to buy a box with 10 to 12 packets in it. Could you shop out of your pantry for your drink? I bet you have a few boxes of drinks in your pantry to choose from! I have been binge watching your videos! I am also a new subscriber! Love your videos!!
Keep doing your reactions "live" and alongside the viewer, it adds an element of surprise to your videos, that way we are watching your reactions to the products. If I was a US resident I would like to listen to someone's reaction to a product has they experiment it.
I don't visit Trader Joe's as much as I used to since we moved to the other side of town. I did like their frozen section, and depending on the season, the produce is really nice. My favorite is the 4 pack of baby artichokes. My son loves their shortbread. At Christmas, it is one of the only places i can get gluhwein and lebkuchen.
Fairly certain I picked up that meat stick at Aldi. Where ever it was, the thing was good and when I saw it, first thing I thought was tossing it into an MRE.
Love TJs and love the surprise factor of your selections. Don't change a thing! I'm a fan of their store branded milk chocolate bars. Very milky, some may like it, some not. You are right on about TJ having a strong snack game.
That was very interesting. Trader Joe's is one of those stores where you really have to shop; you have to go down every isle and look at everything! They hide things over the frozen food freezers. Come the holidays they will bring in some of their most popular items that are only available then. It's a great place to Christmas shop for people who enjoy food.
Indeed, I have like 4 different Trader Joe's all around me in the neighborhoods about 2 miles away in any direction. And an Aldi a few blocks away. Humorously every TJs shares a parking lot or is extremely close to a coffee shop that is on my "rotation."
I love Trader Joes, but only go about once a year because it's so far away from our home. I normally just get snacks and seasonal items haha. The concealed flask is a great idea!
I'm always looking around for MRE items as well. I struggle moat with the entree. I'm too heat sensitive for several of the Indian meals. It would be neat of there were a forum somewhere where people could discuss MRE items they found. Kind of a repository for options.
We have TJs. It's an excellent place to stock up on nuts, dried fruit, and snacks. They have a very good packet of instant coffee with creamer and sugar in it (3 in 1). They are sold in packs of 10. Mostly we get odds and ends there that we can't find in our local Winco. But it looks like you've found some really interesting things. Will have to give them a try.
I’m so glad I stumbled across your channel! I’m planning on doing a lot of car camping/hiking this fall, and you give me some great ideas! I’ve been slowly building a stock of my own MREs, so I’ll have meals squared away by the time I get started camping.

I dont think we have trader joes up here in canada but we have one called "farm boy's" which is pretty close. I've been in a few times but it's definitely not cheap and very hard to find products with a long shelf life
Some of the stuff at Trader Joe's is good. I don't go there much because some of the customers are rude. By rude I mean self absorbed individuals that makes parking and shopping frustrating as "they" are in a hurry and are just mad. I don't know what they are mad at cause life is good. Thank you for the video I appreciate you.

Trader Joe’s is run by the people that own Aldi Nord. In America, we can’t have two businesses with the same name and we already have Aldi (Aldi Sud), so Aldi Nord changed its US name to Trader Joe’s. The channel “The Fat Electrician” did a great video about it.
Keep it natural and real. Trader Joe’s is my go to for most fresh produce. They have a ridiculously wide variety of snacks and I’ve tried many of them and still have a long way to go before I get through them all. Okay. I'm wondering like if there was no power source you had another one as well where you just put like a little heat pack in. Sorry to bother you. I'm thinking it might be good to have both on hand
I tried to pick an item for the bug out bag for your friend, but it gave me an error about the address when I tried to check out. That said, really enjoyed the Trader Joes MRE. I would eat all of that :)
Ive never seen any of those items there. Surprisingly. I liked the gummy sour "peas and carrots" though lol i dont know if they always have it but they sell a mean flourless chocolate cake
@dadbudgetadventures in their defense, I don't shop there but every month or two. It's always so crowded. Not costco crowded but still lol. I won't shop costco. Nooo thank you lol

Keep in mind that I’m just showing ideas for the items not recommending a perfect balance. Those numbers only reflect what you’ve got if you use these exact items. This is a DIY thing so I encourage everyone to build it as they need it to be.
I have a new trader Joe's not far from me. I want us to start trying out because I like organic natural food. I have a question. Is there a link somewhere to the trucker's lunch box you have? I thought I would find just one thing instead. I'm seeing all kinds of things popping up on the web
Obviously you don't have any food allergies, if you did you would be reading the label carefully before you purchased items. Perhaps when you get a sense of an ingredient but can't place it you could look at ingredients list and see if your guess is correct. Still enjoying the concept of homemade MREs. ✌️🇺🇸
You are correct. I’ve been blessed with pretty good health and no food allergies. Definitely makes it easier for me to do this and not have to limit what I try.
re@16:45... it's ALL trash u have to pack out, so... Also, those yogurt/applesauce/pudding pouches r great for other things besides hooch. Yeah I wish ours was allowed to sell hard liquor. We can only get beer and wine. I think I heard they sell bourbon at locations where it’s allowed and usually store brands are pretty good and less pricey.
You said "this has become my life every time I go into a store my default now is to start looking for items for an MRE, probably drives the wife nuts, but I'm having so much fun doing this that it's just kind of become part of my routine". So my question is it "the looking for MRE stuff" or the "driving your wife nuts" that is the routine? I guess it could be both, I know what mine would say.
I have my own personal issues with traders joes so i dont go there at all. Doesnt mean i dont enjoy the videos tho. Lol Personally, i try not to get chocolate covered bars because of the problems with melting.
Trying something new loses its enjoyment if you know what to expect, let the surprise be part of the experience. Also, don't accidentally send your kid to school with a repurposed applesauce pouch in their lunchbox... you know, unless you want to get a call about a drunken rampage at naptime. 🤣
I haven't been in Trader Joe's in some time. In my area it's in the same shopping center as the World Market and just up the street from the Whole Foods. This results in a parking lot full of Subarus and hippies, and the smell of pachouli oil and weed can be overwhelming. I think I will risk a trip to the Trader Joe's for the tea bags though. When I was a kid my mom bought the Lipton Instant Ice Tea with sugar and lemon when we went on vacation. When you mentioned I could practically taste it and it brought back some great memories.
My favorite is Trader Joe's Instant Coffee Packets with Creamer & Sugar 10 Packets
That’s a good one. Those are pretty popular!

That’s good advice…for lots of things.
👍❤️👍👏🏻👍

I have my own personal issues with traders joes so i dont go there at all. Doesnt mean i dont enjoy the videos tho. Lol
Personally, i try not to get chocolate covered bars because of the problems with melting.
Yeah chocolate is limiting that way. Moderate weather only.
Trying something new loses its enjoyment if you know what to expect, let the surprise be part of the experience. Also, don't accidentally send your kid to school with a repurposed applesauce pouch in their lunchbox... you know, unless you want to get a call about a drunken rampage at naptime. 🤣
Oh the fun visit with child services that would be 😂
Keep it natural.
I agree. I think it’s more fun that way.
Please do the research after you do the taste test, that way we aren’t grossed out by the ingredients
Hadn’t thought of it that way. I might not want to know even after.
Keep it natural
I agree. More fun that way.
Have you considered building an accessories kit like you find in a real MRE? You know with salt, pepper, ketchup, maybe some hot sauce and some gum.
I do that for the ones I make for my own purposes. Sometimes I throw them in for fun, especially when I’m making my C-rations.
I only go to trader Joe's if I have my anti yuppy spray
Does that work? I need some of that.
Hope it’s worth the patchouli 😂
Keep it natural.
I think that’s what I’m gonna do. Seems stuffy to do too much setup beforehand.
