      Why do we treat drug offenders worse than pedophiles, abusers, murderers and rapists? Because they involve actual **work** and way easier to bust drugs then spending a month working one crime. So they promote idiots who learn cutting corners is the way to go.

    My father was murdered in 2005. I remember the time before the perpetrators were caught, it was impossible to trust anyone. Thankfully they were caught and that uncertainty was replaced with anger, hatred and sadness. Now 15 years later, it's as if no one remembers or gives a damn. I can't imagine how much worse that would have been if no one had ever been caught though. Thank you for giving a damn. On behalf of those who feel forgotten.

      As time passes, witnesses die or otherwise become unavailable, physical evidence is lost, and overall memories fade -- it becomes increasingly more difficult to amass enough evidence to support a conviction.
      Can you recall your whereabouts on a specific date 30+ years ago? Can you adduce evidence to support that alibi?

      @princesstamika 4 роки тому +39

      @@williamharris8367 this is also why there is a statute of limitations on murder in other countries which sounds crazy to Americans and yet a statute of limitations on rape is fine. Considering the number of cases where rape, which is bad enough, escalates in serious physical assaults and murder or into serial rapes .... It's kind of shocking. But I'm biased because I'm a woman and therefore likely to be raped in my lifetime, 1 in 4 of us is and that number is likely higher. I know what it feels like to self police everything from makeup and clothes to how I make friends with men to make sure I reduce the risk of being blamed for my own rape. I know it's never about making women feel safer from opportunistic sexual assault, it's about protecting men who can't read body language and don't understand women might submit in order to avoid violence. *Giving the date rapists an out also gives violent, random rapists an out as well.*

      @@williamharris8367 That really makes no sense. If they could prove a murder case with DNA, they could prove rape. Unfortunately our society sees rape as not as bad as some other types of violent crime, so they have applied a statute of limitations to it. This is an old patriarchal way of thinking, and many states are removing SOLs from sexual assault charges.

    When I was serving in the British army in Belfast in the early '90's, the tail end charlie in the patrol I was leading heard a faint cry from a secured car park. He alerted me to this and together the patrol isolated the scene and found a lady barely, alive and naked from the waist down. She had been battered so severely that one of her eyes had been forced from it's socket. Whilst our team medic attended to the lady, I radioed for an ambulance and police. It bothers me still that I don't know if the lady survived or whether her attacker was ever found. Believe me, I have witnessed some bad shit in my 24 years as a soldier but that winter night still haunts my dreams.

      Sometimes ppl mean well, but are too soft and are manipulated by evil people. That’s why I really don’t trust too many people after watching these cases so many years now. If it’s a rape and murder case, usually people don’t change and can’t be rehabilitated, so I say throw the book at them and keep them in jail or use the death penalty quickly, because if they get out on the streets they usually reoffend and kill more innocent people. I am thoroughly disgusted at some countries that let these types of criminals out way too early and they end up torturing and taking more lives!! Such injustice really, and how is the community supposed to feel safe?? In our country it varies by state, some are too soft on these criminals as in this case.

      @QTee You're full of horse dung by implying women were worth less in sentencing, etc. Out of every 100 murders 77 are men, and 23 women, yet the vast majority of media cases are regarding women. All the tv programs focus on women cases. For the most part it is men that do the scientific work and legal work to catch the fruitcake killers.

    Every time I hear a story of DNA solving a brutal crime like this, I feel as if, in addition to the thanks of tenacious police work, we should also thank the tenacious scientists who discovered the structure of DNA in the 1950s: British Rosalind Franklin, and Maurice Wilkins, and American James Watson. Watson and Wilkins went on to win the Nobel Prize. Unfortunately, Ms. Franklin passed away before the award was given.

    I too, listen to Murder Squad Podcast with Paul Holes and Billy Jensen. As a Family Genealogist, I downloaded my DNA to GEDMatch and gave my permission for the use of my DNA by law enforcement. If I can help solve a crime with my DNA especially a missing person or murder case, I feel why not! I have nothing to hide and if someone in my DNA tree have committed a crime, then they are guilty and deserve to be caught. I cannot imagine the pain and suffering the victims family are going through. The faster a criminal is caught the less victims they have. I also feel we worry to much about our privacy through DNA. Let worry about criminals getting away with crime and missing people being found. Let’s give a Jane Doe or a John Doe back their true identity for remaining families to have closure.

    there shouldn’t be a statute of limitations on sexual assault. Especially now with the advances made in DNA testing. Not even talking about cold cases but even in recent cases the SoL can (and has) expired on many sex assault cases because DNA evidence sits on a shelf in an evidence room due to backlogs.
