I remember watching this special on TV with my parents when I was 10. The show was amazing... but THIS TRICK. It gives me goosebumps to this day. It is probably my favorite trick he’s ever performed. NO ONE can refute his sleight of hand skills- whether you love the guy, or hate him. He is truly a master. The presentation, music, and emotion... it was a lovely tribute his grandfather.
One of the great slight-of-hands by one of the masters. Even knowing how this is performed, the degree of skill and the presentation gets me every time.
what slight of hand this guy is a wizard, i watch all magicians and you can make up a logican explination as in he might have done this and that, but for david it's imposible
He was flawless here. The shuffling he does at the start is amazing. It serves for mis-direction, but he gets the deck to where he wants it. Like how he puts that one ace card down at the start and has 3 aces under it, but makes it look like just the one card. Then, the power of double-sided tape to make the 3 aces disappear only leaving 3 cards in each pile - he applies the right subtle pressure, and the way he pulls the bottom card onto the Aces on last two piles is simple awesome and dramatic. He's unbelievable. His hands - perfect.
Exactly. I know what he's doing, but even so what's so amazing is how his execution is completely flawless. The first ace change is easy. The second is more difficult, last ace change is unbelievable. Each uses a completely different method. Brilliant.
I love the story he tells about his grandfather before he performs this trick. It's a classic trick that most magicians learn, but nobody performs it better.
Notice when he slides his hand over the card making the aces "disappear" he palms the card and slides it up his sleeve. David Copperfield is a true legend, and the best magician the world will ever see
No he doesn't. The trick is dead simple and there is no need to complicate it like that. He clearly places all the aces in place at the beginning in advance of the final reveal. And he is very obviously double lifting a card in each group when putting them down. The magic is in his showmanship and exceptional sleight of hand.
I'm not positive, but being an amateur magician myself, the most plausible way he does this is slides the bottom card out and in to his other palm when covering it. The way he puts down the "changed" card allows him to double lift it if done skillfully, whereas the other cards he proves there is only 1. Absolutely astounding in how smooth and precise he executes his moves, I LOVE this guy.
It 'an amazing illusionist. There are no sleeves or strange cards .. The precision and the elegance with which he proceeds is incredible. I think it takes much training to learn it to perfection, then he adds more theatricality charm and entertainment. It 's definitely the top in all aspects.
This is one of those videos where I can figure out how he did it but can't replicate it myself. When it comes to sleight-of-hand and showmanship, Copperfield is the best of the best
For the latter part of the trick, first deck is definitely a double lift (he also seems to switch the spades to the top). For the 2nd and 3rd decks, if you watch very closely, you'll notice that it's the rear-most card that ends up at the front. As D.C covers briefly with his free hand, he's actually sliding the last card to a horizontal position, then quickly flips it to the front to finish. Still some amazing sleight of hand (probably adhesive or magnets used for easier double lifting).
I think he said before doing this presentation that this was his first magic trick, he learned it from his grandfather ... so yeah I guess for you it could seem to be for " beginners ". But for other people ( like me ), it's amazing :) And that's what I like actually : so simple yet wonderfully done ! Like other little things in life ;)
Awesome, the only word that describes him as a magician and as a person, i apologize if my english is not good, I'm from Bolivia and he has been my inspiration for the last few years....Thank You David Copperfield.
Even knowing how he does this, it's incredible to watch. The finesse and precision it takes to pull those moves off is insane. Copperfield was a true magician, and not just a showman. Still love the story about how he got mugged outside his show and used slight of hand to conceal the contents of his pockets. Huge balls, to put your magic to the "give me your belongings or we'll shoot you" test.
As someone who, himself, has performed this same trick, I can personally attest that there are neither camera cuts nor double-sided tape used. There certainly IS a method to the performance and it DOES have something to do with the cards. If you want to learn it, I believe pro magic stores sell it under the title of Grandfather's Aces.
for the people who know how the trick is done, they sure understand the complex techniques his using in this routine and how slick and smooth he do them, and that proves that he can beat any so called magician who perform card tricks
The music is also in the McDonald Aces routine called "A Dream of Aces" by Gary Oulett . D. C. is the very best at this routine Ive ever seen. Very smooth, and the slights were perfect. He is the man for a reason. What a magician.
I believe magic is always 90% fully engulfing yourself into the role of the magician emotionally and physically. 90% you have to believe it's magic and the audience will believe too. The other 10% of course is you have to be awesome :).
This was inspired by a trick invented by Gary Oulette & performed by Alain Chouquette, who used this same music, except he talked about his father, nit grandfather. Copperfield liked it, adapted the moves & the story, & kept the music. One of his best close up pieces.
It's a pretty simple trick but David Copperfield executed it magnificently! I won't be spoiling how it's done but it seems some UA-camrs already done that
You may notice that when his arm approaches cards before the "magic moment" the image jumps. Very slightly, almost unnoticeably, but it does. Which means simply the following: what people are seeing on the screen in the theatre and what is actually happening are two different images. The trick was filmed beforehand, and being on stage David just closely repeats the movements on the video. Btw, music, perhaps, plays the role of a succession of signals, prompting which posture he should take next.
What I love about DC is that he's both illusionist and showman. He combines amazing illusions with outstanding stage presence, making for one hell of a show. Cool here how he honored his grandfather with the card trick. Also cool how he fucked over the muggers. Major balls.
He did the Trick and told the People that it was a Trick. But that's executed Perfect. Well, that's David Copperfield. Whatever People may think of him. He is a great Performer.
you don't have to be smart to perform magic, you have to be skilled that is different. And you can also be smart in general even if you are not be able to perform magic. Anyway, as regards to me, after I saw this video I'm tryng to do something of magic, so...I think that David can be happy! ;)
I bet you didn't see him deal the three real aces off the bottom of the deck and put them under the ace in the center of the table. You didn't see it because it was executed with absolute perfection.
Terrifice job at the end, combining two basic card sleights: the palm-change, and the double-lift. If you know these two sleights, you can figure out how he did this (and see how he did it, too). Anyone who doesn't know these manipulations will simply be baffled :)
SPOILER ALERT Didn't catch all the shuffling, but any technique that allows for keeping track of a set of cards would do, in this case its the seven aces. then its sleight of hands to place the three duplicate aces under the spade. The last part is first a double flip. The second and third he places the bottom of the non ace cards into his right hand, and then covers the ace, and drops the covered ace to the table, followed by the other two cards. If someone catches his shuffling please share.
At 2:16 -17 you can see the shadow on the back of his hand disappear. What is shown on the big screen is not live. It's cut and edited. BTW, the tail end of the trick, he's moving the ace to the back of the pack with fingers of his left hand and there is double-sided scotch tape on the face of the aces that connects it to the back of the card it's pressed against so you end up with that looks like three cards.
Love how the music matches the card trick. At least that's my opinion. I also like watching magic tricks or illusionists. You're always like, wow how did he/she do that 0.0 . But in my opinion you shouldn't try to figure out how he/she does his/her trick. Just enjoy at how he/she performs it. Like if you're watching this trick without thinking you're like; He is eating the cards with his hands 0.0. At least that's what i think xD
He gets the card from behind the 4 and covers it up then flips it when his moves up then just double lifts the first card to hide it. Finally he has extra aces and you can tell the multi lift he does when the ace of spades comes up, my friend is 14 and he can do it the exact same...
it is a very nice card trick now i have learned it and i am practicing ,because it is actually not such a very easy trick but it is very cool ,and with the song goes perfect!
I hope I don't give too much away by saying: he uses genuine cards, there are no gimmicks, no double-sided cards, there's nothing fishy about any of the cards he uses, they are just normal playing cards. All moves are really basic (even the most complicated one), they are the ones that every magician learns in the very beginning. it's a special deck. The aces have an other image on the backside (he only shows the other two from the stack). That's also how the aces came face up on the table. The other are the real aces.
Hi LucisFerre1. I would appreciate it if you could also message me the explanation of how this is done as I am particularly intrigued about the 3 different changes. Many thanks
Im looking for a card trick that a host taught the audience. You have the person pick a card. Then you shuffle cards. And then make sets and rows of cards shuffle cards and the last shuffle and the last card in the last set of rows is the actual card the person picked out. Its a long trick but you get it right every time. And i forgot how to do it
Well don't i feel stupid know, having written such an offensive post. If only I'd known beforehand i could have written something like: "Mr Copperfield is the most amazing person on the planet, no one is as great as he is. Me too!!!
David is amazing, no flashes, no nothing!
He's magic is perfect!
Yep! Omg!
Stefan, please post a Video of yourself showing us how the false shuffles should look. Much appreciated.
TheRussianGenius I know how he did the starting aces routine
One of the great slight-of-hands by one of the masters. Even knowing how this is performed, the degree of skill and the presentation gets me every time.
That's the whole point
Do tell
True... true indeed
U misspelled sleight
Clearly a master of sleight of hand. The haters should at least acknowledge that fact.
I wasn't aware he had haters but you are right. To do that trick you do have to have some level of skill to pull off slight of hand that well.
When someone is as famous and popular as David, there are ALWAYS haters. :)
ProgHead777 There will be no illusionist to be as famous and as popular as David Copperfield.
what slight of hand this guy is a wizard, i watch all magicians and you can make up a logican explination as in he might have done this and that, but for david it's imposible
john benedict carranza Houdini
This is perfect in so many ways!!! Flawless trick, beautiful hands, elegant moves, great music!!!
So smoothless, even at the hard parts...truely a Master of his Art
Smoothless?
He was flawless here. The shuffling he does at the start is amazing. It serves for mis-direction, but he gets the deck to where he wants it. Knowing how this trick is done makes me appreciate his sleight of hand so much. He's an absolute master of it right here.
I know grandpa’s aces is an old trick, but when I saw this live, it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.
Gives me goosebumps even today especially when he salutes his GrandFather !
I love the story he tells about his grandfather before he performs this trick. It's a classic trick that most magicians learn, but nobody performs it better.
Tacos. Huidies. Tope thre
Magic is so Beautiful when Copperfield's on it.
kungking

it's so simple yet he did with elegance and made it into a masterpiece, now that's what I call a legendary illusionist.
Usually with Magic tricks i have an idea at least of how they do them..but this just like completely blew my mind

omg tnx for posting this! after 6 years of searching I finally know which song is this!! :D THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :)
please tell me the name of this song
Simply elegant. The last of the real magicians.
Tacos too. Hudini
The solution to this trick is kind of simple, but Copperfield is a master performer. And there is a "magic" to his magic.
This is one of those videos where I can figure out how he did it but can't replicate it myself.
When it comes to sleight-of-hand and showmanship, Copperfield is the best of the best
This is by far the best card trick I've ever seen. David was tought by his grandfather. :D

I still remember when I first seen David doing this. He questioned weather or not to use it in the show. It still looks like magic to me.
All pure naguc

Wow so many years of praticing to make it look that smooth! Just awesome

Easy to understand.. but it's amazing how simply he does it!
his hands, the music, its just makes me cry everytime, i dont know wy but it feels
soo inspiring

if you know card tricks, then you know how it's done, but dude has some serious showmanship and perfect sleight of hand.

@Alpha Magus I'm magician too and I say it is simple for anyone that gets 6-1 year in magic.

Herman pass and double lift. If you are really interested you can figure it out from there.
His reveal of the pass is really slick.

Well I'm not gonna play poker with that guy, thats for sure. :)
just noticed that the music is so perfect for his magic
This looks so good
Me on my poker night - "Hey guys, I hurt my hand earlier, David's gonna deal for me."
David Copperfield did the ultimate Aces perfect
I cry everytime i see this video.
@Joshua Stout : it's called love theme from the movie cousins by angelo badalamenti
it is a very nice card trick now i have learned it and i am practicing ,because it is actually not such a very easy trick but it is very cool ,and with the song goes perfect!
What the music is playing in this video? It's as much amazing as the trick!
That sleight of hand, man this guy is good.
Damn he's awesome
That's high level skill right there
I hope I don't give too much away by saying: he uses genuine cards, there are no gimmicks, no double-sided cards, there's nothing fishy about any of the cards he uses, they are just normal playing cards. The master!!! True art!
Lol, but he's so clean with his DL's and his sandwich. It's so cool the way he just ignores it until the end, it's a real convincer for the audience.
that moment when you know how he did it , but you can't do it like he did it :|
he is so clean but the finger movement on 1:34 give it all , and the way he throws the first card without showing the back then with the 2 second cards he does is smart to make them feel like they did check all the cards :D
then with the duplicate's with the pinky break is great :)
i hope i am right if not ,then i am so sorry to waste your time
at 1:30 there are obviously 4 cards, on top ist the ace, behind the queen, then two others.
When he is holding the hand to hide the card, he must have put the ace behind the queen with just one hand, and then he put two card down at the same time and then the two other cards
@kevincaijiayi the song's name is "Cousins"
there is this thing called celo tape... it's on the first 3 aces, then he sticks them on the back of the other random cards, also he put the other three aces behind the ace of spades meaning he had dublicate aces.
he doesn't has double-sided cards, he uses a very different but brilliant method.
@LucisFerre1 Yes I agree, the presentation is smooth and so clean;) It must take much practise to do this in front of so many people with this much confidence;)
that was the best card trick ever
Pretty simple trick, he uses the change(i forgot the name)that bring the bottom to the top then simple double lift :/ and there are duplicates of the 3 Aces, he holds 4 cards as 1 by the same grip as harbour change
Okay, you got me on the first one, but the second and third time, notice how he doesn't show the back of the first card he places down?
Name of music is Angelo Badalamenti - Love Theme (Cousins)
wow wow wow fantastic!!
ахуеть, мой медведь чуть водку не уронил!
when he puts the ace of spades he palm the last 3 aces from the bottom
on the first miss ace, he take 2 cards
on the second he turn the last card let her fall on the rigth hand and make the color change
the last trick is the same but he move his hand to the left
the final is just the reveal
i have just one doubt about the second and the 3 ace been 2 side
because he dont show the back of those cards
@khoabean It's the theme from the movie 'Cousins' iirc.
