- This is the Mr. Rogers (Banana Bandana) trick that David Copperfield does during his special, The Magic of David Copperfield VIII: Walking Through The Great Wall of China.
this is 99% performance and 1% trick. absolutely brilliant
I think I've watched this a billion times and I still laugh soooooooo hard every time!!
My favorite part is the fact that when he switches from that monstrous offense of a leather jacket to the red cardigan its supposed to be this dorky transformation. Thanks so much, 1980's.
David always reminded me of Bob Saget..
Vždy perfektní vystoupení gratulujeme mnohokrát krásné ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏👍
And now years later I can still remember this word for word. David Copperfield was a huge part of my childhood.
This is the best version of this trick. Adding in Mr. Rodgers is genius.
He's so funny and charming lol
HAHAHA!!!! I had no idea he was a comedian too! this is the best of both worlds!!! I love him!!!!
@ Jean He's always had a comedic flair about him and this so freaking funny ! I still recall my ribs were hurting as I was laughing so hard! keep magic alive and Enjoy Luv!
I had to stop the video so I could stop crying of laughter. His face at "fold it one more time was priceless.
I love david copperfield .. he is great... I love the way he performs.. so perfect.. and he is a very humorist magician.. though I've watched it again and again.. still, he makes me laugh... very good!
This is such a good trick :D And i don’t think that everyone appreciates the line “Now that you’ve perfected palming” and David’s quick smile after :D
I'm no expert on purses, but I don't think that was a purse that ever actually existed. Then when I saw Copperfield perform live not long after this the jig was up. During the performance, he did this same exact bit and just "happened" to "borrow" a purse from a woman in the audience, and it was the *_exact, same purse!_* He even did the same "Wow! You are *_organized!_* Did you get this on TV? ... K-tel?" schtick. He did it word for word. I was maybe 12 and I remember it hit me. "Okay. That's a setup."
Smile and then a confused awkward looking face alwats gets me. And repeats it again and again, just cant stop laughing hahahaha
I saw him live in Rochester NY in 1986 when I was 12 and remember this skit vividly!
@acer3573 I recall this as well it was side splittingly funny , I use to do an impression of him so glad I found this sketch CHEERS!
David Seth Kotkin Copperfield born again Christian brother in Christ illusionist magician and his illusion crew helper's at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia long time ago did this very illusion plus New illusion idea concepts every year at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia long time ago from 1980s into the 2000 something
Thanks for the upload, it made me laugh and smile. I needed that :)
I met David in May 1988 at the Bob Carr Theatre in Orlando when I was stationed there. Got several great pictures with him.
David is absolutely hilarious. I nearky cried i was laughing so much
aww i love Mr. Rogers Neighborhood ^^ always watched it as a kid ^^ definite add to my favorites list ^^
all magic have a trick, its an illusion..its a misdirection..david c,david b,penn and teller,etc..all of them became popular because they have a great presentation in their magic some of them have originality...look at this trick, its old and simple..but its very entertaining because of the good presentation together with david's charisma..david is the master of mixing a good story, comedy with magic..
No way. Didn't realise that a magic trick was an illusion. I've been conned my whole life.
hahahahaha I soooooo loved it :D Amazing, I love him !!! He is the best in all history. I didn't stop laughing since the first seconds and his magic is always so cool.
@megalibra82 This was at a U.S. Embassy in China, during his Great Wall of China television special, 1986. It still brings tears of laughter to watch.
I like the "borrowed" purse that Copperfield used, although A) you need a little pre-show work and B) asking for the purse first rather undermines the gag that you're only doing what the tape is instructing. Still a great trick, I'm just being a perfectionist.
Carl-Einer Hackner does the trick with a folded square, which avoids that problem but provides its own when you realize it basically *is* a bandana. Thus undermining the gimmick of not having one.
I think if I were to do this trick now, assuming it fit my persona I'd wear a baseball hat and then hide it in the hat. You can even make the "squeeze it" step be putting the hat back on your head, which I guarantee an audience would love. It's not hard to gimmick and then just ditch the hat (or the compartment) afterwards.
@gromovrocks ya think so? i have another theory... the "banana" was in fact a banana peel it only had air in it.. and the bag was a gimmick bag... it had three layers.. like a clubhouse sandwich.. get it? each half/layer was identical to the other... with the middle part separating them... the "banana" was put in the first layer.. and the "vanish" was done with the second layer... leaving the "banana" sandwiched on the first layer... if you already get it, good... if not.. PM me.. i'll elaborate
LMAO this was hilarious I couldn't stop laughing for some reason
David Copperfield - Mr. Rogers (Banana Bandana): just shows what showmanship a true legend was comical to
Awwww that was hilarious.
Still my favorite bit.
hahah.. Wow. I performed this trick (used with a devils hank) in a show a performed a few years back. I never realized how much history it had and that David did it in his early days.... WOW!
Some rip off in the Melbourne comedy festival that's on right now just ripped of this routine. It should be uploaded sooner or later (not by me). He is Swedish, and his name is Carl-something.
it's a beautiful day in the neighborhood. of course the words have changed now
You just got David Copperfieldified!
Dendi sure knows magic
I'm starting to think that maybe David Copperfield should have starred in the Mr. Rogers movie instead of Tom Hanks.
If the trick was "in the bag", the woman would have known about it.
I love this video. I wouldn't stop laughing
wouldnt you
Cool 😎
don't compare David Copperfield with other present magicians, he is the first legend, why do you all have to find the answer or secret for magic? just let it open a new world for you. You know what, in that time, people believed in what he did and they would lose their heart for knowing the secret of these.
The first legend?! Pierre-Houdin, Houdini, Dai Vernon, Blackstone, ...
The first TV magic legend was Doug Henning. Copperfield would have been nothing without Doug Henning
@@miamimagicians Mark Wilson and Douglas James Henning saved illusion magic tricks and David Seth Kotkin Copperfield born again Christian brother in Christ ps David Copperfield perserved it
Now this is the David Copperfield I remember he was so much more fun. He is still great, but at times a bit stiff.
He was 30 years old when he did this special. He's now 66 years old. Age does take it's toll on people.
@bigk181 Your right it does
@bigk181 No, I wasn't doubting what you said, I was just being sarcastic... Thanks for the post because I love this trick and seeing Copperfied do it was a real pleasure!
He Even had TV commercial for Bush gardens Williamsburg Virginia long time ago then he started performing at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Virginia with his illusion crew helper's
REALisation: half the people couldn't even see with that big ass garden gazebo in the middle of room...
That was amazing.
Very funny and entertaining trick! But you need that nice "Handbag" with 2 ways to open it :D
IT IS HALIROUS!!
Who does these face first? Mr.Bean or David Copperfield?
i notice the bean action also
Good Old Times...
make me laugh all time I watch him!
Cool! I didn't know Bob Saget did magic.
WOW! You are organized!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can't stop laughing!
nicely done.
You promised you won’t look through it
HOW DOES HE DO IT
Oh gosh, so cute.
Meanwhile in an alternate universe David Copperfield is watching Mister Robinson's neighborhood and took a cue from Robinson, by stealing that woman's handbag.
@bigk181 Thanks, because based on the hair, glasses, and clothing the people were wearing I was guessing '82. Well, I'm not wrong, it's just that the audience wasn't up on their trends.....
"Won't you be Jim Narbors?" LOL!
I wish I could find that voice over of Mr. Rogers. -.- I would love to use that for my show.
And now a swedish guy copy-pasted this for success, great
i saw a guy do a card trick now every one is doing card tricks
Plopp
2 points for sarcasm. other than that there is a fine difference between a basic magic trick and something as specified as this.
Horst Weinert Copperfield says. “In France, I sued someone who stole my Flying illusion, and I was successful. The lawsuit prevented him from performing it again without compensating me.” i think he had Copperfield approval to do the trick. Btw its a basic magic trick..the only special thing about it is that it is a banana.
good to see someone who argues with reason and not with insults, hard to find that on the net these days. While I still think its pretty much a copy paste and by the specific level of comedy not just a basic trick anymore I think your argument with the lawsuit wrecks it, so gg :P
Plopp I have a good feeling you haven't seen the video he is referencing plopp, because if you had you would know that he performed the trick almost word for word and even copying the facial/body expressions.
I didn't know Bob Saget was also a magician.
Daver Copperfield
Damn, that was really funny.
I'm here because of Sarazar LP
ich auch :D
@losplatosdemaria According to IMDB.com, the China special aired in 1986.
i'm laughing my ass off right now
i laugh together with the audience.
This magic is entertaining and well presented; however, it is simple. The bag is like a book, with one page. When the banane got into the first page, closed, it was hide there. David just flip open to other “page”, the banana was thought to gone.
because the woman is a stooge ;)
the first and 2nd page look identical. I think you are not correct. It is subtler and cleverer than that. My guesses are usually wrong.
The wrinkles of the flat bag. The first one had a lot of wrinkles, the second one had less wrinkles.
Haha.
But the real magic was in the comedy and story telling and entertainment value. Flawless execution. Really nice trick! 👏🎉
Carl Einar Hackner does that trick too, i didn't know he stole it!
OH HO MAGIC!
every body wants banana o banana wants every body
hilarious. didn't know he was a comedian too haha
This is too funny
Cool
hahahhahaaaaa that wasr very fun!!!
and i didn't know some people apparently call him David Copperfield
Anyone who created this routine for David.
Every Magician has copied it exactly ,with no imagination since.
My dad Marcel Franklin Page jr likes this one also and many stage illusions TV specials ps My dad Marcel Franklin Page jr got promoted to heaven a few days before Thanksgiving 2010 I'm glad he's a born again Christian brother in Christ John 3: 16 Holy King James Bible

LOLOLOLOLO I LAUGHTED SO HARD BEACAUSE ITS A BANNA AND THE PART TO WIPE THE BANNA IN THE FACE LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
Too funny
Carl Einar does the banana gag better, his facial expressions are the key!
I watched based on your suggestion. David's facial expressions are way better.
The banana thing is very clever but I want to know how he managed to steal the leather jacket of a man three times his own size...
It has sound.
what's that on the left david? reflection?
hahahahahahahahaha,funny
*song says Jim neighbors *LOLOLO LOLOLOLOl
Does anyone knows when was this aired
