MonsterBaby Steve Wilson Exact same thing here! I was younger but I remember clearly how I ended up on the moon and was in complete disbelief when he found me!
So great to scroll through the comments and feel all the Nostalgia from people. Everybody knows it's just math and simple counting "trick" but everybody is / was happy. Man. The 90s were utopia and we didn't knew.
He removes the three starting circles which means whatever number you choose you will always retrace your way to the top star and then move three extra times to land on the city. Once you're there you will always end up on the moon four steps from there in whatever direction. So people who say that they ended up somewhere else counted wrong.
family reunited 30 years ago to watch this special, I remember my cousin touching the screen,. "You're on the moon" it's probably the coolest TV moment I've ever witness in my life.
I remember having to climb on the cabinet to reach our tv for this trick as a kid. That permanent limp I have from falling always adds salt to the fact he keeps getting it right
Wow this brings back memories. This was from a tv special probably from 1993. I had it recorded on VHS and watched it all of the time. I'll never forget watching him "fly" for the first time.
Haha so funny. Love Copperfield. I remember analyzing this for a half hour as a kid. Anytime you start three positions outside the puzzle and then go backwards the same number you started from, you will always be three positions past the entry point. On the second turn everyone was in the city.
@@badcornflakes6374 I was 8 and I would put “our” intelligence up against the 2000s generation every day of the week and twice on Tuesday. Go eat a tide pod.
The trick is amazing built. If you count 5 to 15, you step 3 to the first real symbol ("Star"), and 2 to 12. Because he took the "X" and the 2 arrow, if you step reverse 5 to 15, you will exactly 3 step from the first real symbol ("Star"), right on the "City". Because he left only 8 symbols, if you step 4, you can only be on Moon, which is 4 steps from the city both direction. This is only math, but the performance is great!
You will always end up on the City before he removes the tokens, after that its the moon for you. Pick any number 5-15, count it out on the wheel, reverse direction and count the same number. NEVER count your start point as 1. That is where a large number of people fail to have this work, this trick relies on math and if you can't count right it won't work.
Frank faustick public schools friend he did it wrong also ps it's based on card trick shape like a Q and max Marvin Phil Goldstein math number tricks and Martin Gardner
I remember this on the tv the first time it aired and played along with my parents watching me... i dont think i followed the instructions right as he didnt get my choice right lol
Back in the day when you saw it live. You couldn't find the solution on the spot by checking UA-cam comments or google. Mind blown. You couldn't even rewind the tv to check out what just happened
I'm sure some nerds were discussing about it on BBS'es, the Usenet, Compuserve or similar services though... Things were already happening online, even though most people did not participate. :)
he removed the 3 starting points and asks to move backwards... so we'd always end up at the same spot. from there its just 4 spaces to the moon no matter clockwise or anticlockwise. the real magic is his charisma and technique in distracting the audience from seeing the obvious logic all the while. thats the illusion and he's a master at this no doubt
he just simply told you to do a simple math function ([(x-2)mod(12)]*4)mod(8)]mod(3)=2 understand that (a)mod(b)=K [ K=b.n+a ] example (21)mod(5)=1 because 21=5.4+1 (15)mod(5)=0 ....... 15=5.3+0 everytime you do a circle,it's a MOD we have 1 is star, 2 is the moon,3 is Statue of Liberty...(after he remove some image 2 times at 3:06 ,and he want you stay in 2,the moon) set S=([(x-2)mod(12)]*4)mod(8)]mod(3) if x-2 is prime number, and [12
Is this a joke? I don't understand anything you said but even if it works, it's the long way to get there. You essentially started counting from the city but he misdirected you with the arrows. So when you count the same number backwards you will always end on the city. Then he takes some locations away and leaves 3 on either side of the city. So if you move 4 in either direction then you land on the moon. Simple. No 'Mod'
I see that some people have analyzed how the first part of the trick is accomplished. Basic math, fine. But has anyone figured out the end of the trick is accomplished? How does he make the arrow move on its own, then dramatically point to the moon, and then all other objects fall off the screen with the snap of his fingers?
You're told to pick a number between 5 and 15. But the trick still works if you choose 3. Regardless of what number you choose, when you count backward, you land on the city.
So basically for aspiring Magicians such as myself, this is the perfect trick for getting use of decks that are missing many cards. 1. Make a trail of 15 cards. Starting at 1, volunteer counts any # between 5 and 15. *Careful, the 2nd card is one step, not the 1st, so the 5th step is actually card in the 6th position, etc. 2. Magician removes cards 1, 2, 3 and volunteer must go opposite direction the same amount as 1st time. 3. Magician removes cards from the new positions of 4,6,8 and 12. Volunteer to move 4 spaces in either directions. They wind up in the position of 2nd card of 9 choices either way.
I remember doing this in 1992 as the show aired. Simply awesome.
Must have been so dope!
@@allaheatsflipflops1286 indeed!
I still got the moon since 1994!
Ha! Old person 😏
I remember doing this too as a kid when it first aired live. My whole entire family gasped in astonishment. Good ol days.
After 30 years i touched the screen again and still amazes me
The real magic is that hair
The Dork Knight its magical indeed
😂
When he said think of a number...i thought of 9.....Ofcourse......fucker saw my brain
😂😂
😅
This is not David the Magician, this is David the Mathematician. 🙂
I remember when i was about 10 or 11 i did this trick at home and lost my damn mind!!!!, lol
MonsterBaby Steve Wilson Exact same thing here! I was younger but I remember clearly how I ended up on the moon and was in complete disbelief when he found me!
Dude it's fake I was on the city part
I am ten and I'm freezing out!!!!
I was freaked out too. Never forgot it.
OMG the same here! :O I love him. :D
So great to scroll through the comments and feel all the Nostalgia from people. Everybody knows it's just math and simple counting "trick" but everybody is / was happy. Man. The 90s were utopia and we didn't knew.
I understand how this works now. But the first time I did this, I was twelve, and it blew my mind.
For real, wasn't that fun? 😃
if he didn't "find" you, that means you can't count or follow simple directions.
Except for putting your finger on the screen, because, come on.
jesetomson
Aaahhh DON’T THINK SO!!!
He is a demon! That’s all!
It was wrong followed the directions lol
Fuck you
lmao
I remember doing this live in 1992 and it dont hit different in 2024!!! David did that!!!💐💐💐💐
He removes the three starting circles which means whatever number you choose you will always retrace your way to the top star and then move three extra times to land on the city. Tbf, I didn't know how it worked.
Though, saying that, I am a fucking idiot.
Regardless, thanks for the info.
Hi, David!!!!
I'm on the Statue of Liberty and I've counted correctly
''no matter where you are, I will find you''
Man I gotta say that James Earl Jones has such a soothing and comfortable voice :)
The vocal force is strong with him for sure.
He was awesome in, Field of Dreams.
Who remembers this as a kid in the 90s on Fox? Man what a time to be alive.
This boggled my mind for years back in the day. Of course now you know it's just a math trick but back then, it was an insanely impressive one.
That is still impressive; many people don’t think of Math as magical, yet here is a case where math lead to magic
Wait but it doesn't work?
family reunited 30 years ago to watch this special, I remember my cousin touching the screen,. "You're on the moon" it's probably the coolest TV moment I've ever witness in my life.
Holy shit, even after so many years and through UA-cam, he guessed right. Real magic...
I remember having to climb on the cabinet to reach our tv for this trick as a kid. That permanent limp I have from falling always adds salt to the fact he keeps getting it right
Haha.. I remember watching this in my moms room by myself when I was knee high to a grass hopper. It freaked me out! 😂🤣
Bruh fr 😭😭 just watched it rn and I’m like am I to high or did he jus do some real ass magic
Wow this brings back memories. This was from a tv special probably from 1993. I had it recorded on VHS and watched it all of the time. I'll never forget watching him "fly" for the first time.
We've had the same special recorded on VHS, it was called "15 Years of Magic"! Used to watch it aaaall the time when I was a kid. Those were the days!
This is amazing!! No matter what number I choose, he always gets it right!!
When he says you can go in either direction 4 times, you end up in the exact same place
We all know. Lmao. It was still amazing seaing it first time.
Moc hezký den přeji vám jste super kouzelník který ukazuje tu nádheru díky patří vám hodně štěstí ať se vám daří v krásné práci kterou děláte ❤️🙏🙏👍👍👍👍
ahahahahaha the illusion of free choice! i love it! he's not an illusionist!.. he's a math wizard!
That's no moon. It's a space station.
He will find me because he had a very special set of skills.
After 31 years I touched my screen and I paused the video by mistake 🤣🤣🤣
his voice is just hipnotisable and like computerised, very soothing to listen
Of course its a simple trick. But when I saw this at a kid at home, it was mind blowing stuff°!
aaah these Tv Specials and others like it through the 80s and 90s were just that MAGICAL. good old days of Tv. Now its nothing but crap n trash.
Haha so funny. Love Copperfield. I remember analyzing this for a half hour as a kid. Anytime you start three positions outside the puzzle and then go backwards the same number you started from, you will always be three positions past the entry point. On the second turn everyone was in the city.

I analyzed this for 29 minutes, huh.. guess you aren't as smart as us 2000s kids. Still didn't get it though

The very first time this went live on T.V. All the numbers were right! Amazing David Copperfield!
"You are on the moon!" once was being my earworm for years because he was correct. 🤣🤣
I did this originally and thought it was awesome. I did this when it first aired. This is still impressive.
If I watched this as a kid, I'd have believed real magic exists.
man the real magic exists, believe
I remember voting "Yes or No" by tv touch screen on Nickelodeon. I was such a fool,....still fall for today.
I found it. I finally found it. I remember doing this at home the night of. I was amazed! Yer a wizard, David! LOL!
I remember seeing this as a kid and it really blew me away, Awesome!!
i saw him in at the MGM, the night the guy shot out of the mandalay bay. he locked us in for security
I was 8 when this aired. Brings back great memories.

You will always end up on the City before he removes the tokens, after that its the moon for you. Pick any number 5-15, count it out on the wheel, reverse direction and count the same number. Maybe that's the reason he never found me or my sister when we watched this trick on TV.
Do people feel smarter stating obvious facts? Lol
It didn’t work
Frank faustick public schools friend he did it wrong also ps it's based on card trick shape like a Q and max Marvin Phil Goldstein math number tricks and Martin Gardner
I had this trick when I child.. so memoriable
Watched this on tv as a kid and my mind was BLOWN
this freaked me out as a kid. i asked my friend with me if the show was live lol.
Damn thats still good... I saw him live when he was in his prime.. it was INSANE....
Ted Cantu He's still in his prime. :P
Ah yes.. But of course !!! ;-)
Not going to lie he got it correct
This trick simultaneously creeped me out and blew my mind. Something about the ethereal music and background mixed with the game pieces was weird.
The only magic here is that mullet.
I've done this 100 times and he still always finds me!!
You really don't get it
Fantastic!
That's math and counting but when well presented looks amazing!
I remember this on the tv the first time it aired and played along with my parents watching me... i dont think i followed the instructions right as he didnt get my choice right lol
i remember doing this at home too!!!! i was sooo excited!!!!
What’s cool is that, when you think about it, the key to the magic here is MATH
Back in the day when you saw it live. You couldn't find the solution on the spot by checking UA-cam comments or google. Mind blown. You couldn't even rewind the tv to check out what just happened
I'm sure some nerds were discussing about it on BBS'es, the Usenet, Compuserve or similar services though... Things were already happening online, even though most people did not participate. :)
The Warlock, David Copperfield found me again! Even all these years later! There’s no hiding from him, even on the moon! 😎
when I did this with him, that ending scared me and gave me a nightmare LOL
i didn't move close to my screen or touch it at all. I even had to pause it for a minute when i came back this fool still found me
I wonder how many moms told the kids the tv had the Diablo in it after seeing this
What a vanity look at him today all this beauty gone to ashes
OK, it's SIMPLE math, but the way the arrow moved and the symbols fell down was fascinating
he removed the 3 starting points and asks to move backwards... so we'd always end up at the same spot. from there its just 4 spaces to the moon no matter clockwise or anticlockwise. the real magic is his charisma and technique in distracting the audience from seeing the obvious logic all the while. thats the illusion and he's a master at this no doubt
I think there's a mathematical equation behind this trick
It'll always be the moon no matter what you choose.
you will always land on the tree I'm guessing my connection is slow but I can't believe this astonished me as a kid
he just simply told you to do a simple math function
([(x-2)mod(12)]*4)mod(8)]mod(3)=2
understand that
(a)mod(b)=K
[ K=b.n+a ]
example
(21)mod(5)=1 because 21=5.4+1
(15)mod(5)=0 ....... 15=5.3+0
everytime you do a circle,it's a MOD
we have 1 is star, 2 is the moon,3 is Statue of Liberty...(after he remove some image 2 times at 3:06 ,and he want you stay in 2,the moon)
set S=([(x-2)mod(12)]*4)mod(8)]mod(3)
if x-2 is prime number,and [12
Big Bang lmao nah I’m on the m o o n
Math is magic
Is this a joke? I don't understand anything you said but even if it works, it's the long way to get there.

“Simple math”, you said?
well it's the function i found to show u guys with ANY number from 2 to 15, the last point is always on the moon. its not magic at all
Force!
Math can be fun.
It's all about patterns. Whatever number you choose within his range, you'll end up at the same spot.
140 people didn't manage to follow instructions! 😂
Omg. I really was on the moon at the end. 👍
I got yeeted, I was at the Statue of Liberty 🗽
He didn't find me I was on the clouds.
Take a random number of steps forward, now take the same number of steps back...
Clicks fingers, you're back where you started.
Wow he really is magic! I was on the moon from the tower! Amazing magic! David Copperfield is the greatest magician of all times!
I see that some people have analyzed how the first part of the trick is accomplished. Basic math, fine. But has anyone figured out the end of the trick is accomplished? How does he make the arrow move on its own, then dramatically point to the moon, and then all other objects fall off the screen with the snap of his fingers?

cool i like the title saying tv or computer screen
You're told to pick a number between 5 and 15. But the trick still works if you choose 3. Regardless of what number you choose, when you count backward, you land on the city.
