We recently moved from a one-bedroom apartment to a big house and I was a little nervous about not sticking to our minimalism habits, but I was so wrong. We now have less stuff than we used to have when we lived in an apartment (except furniture, of course). Minimalism for me is all about building an environment I will enjoy, starting with a mug that I use for my morning coffee and ending with furniture. I try to choose high quality items but stick to one for each category (for example, we only have one nice bedding set and one full set of dishes that would fit in one dishwasher load instead of buying seasonal plates or something else cute we see in a store). When it comes to my wardrobe, I declutter every 3 months or so. I ask myself: 1) Have I worn this item in the past year 2) Does the fit complement my body? 3) Do I feel beautiful when I wear it? If the answer is "no" it has to go. I would say that a great start for minimalism is to get rid of boxes (from shoes, gifts etc.), 100 pens in the kitchen drawer, everything that is worn out or just doesn't make you feel good. I would grab a big bag and find 50 items you want to get rid of in every room (anything counts, old mail, receipts etc.). Gosh, it will be so satisfying when you're done! Have fun 😜
Woooow Ms.Marina I am so happy for you, you are shining, and sharing the positive emotions with your subscribers, everything is so awesome, your house, garden, and of course fire-place.
Look at the girl who started her company only with $300, now she lives in Sillicon Valley and she is considering to buy a house in California! The moral of the story: *Never give up!*
Hi Marina! I am currently living in Chicago and the market is so much more welcoming here. I would only move and rent in California (to grow my startup) once I've invested in real estate in Chicago and established that passive income for myself. Good to see you back in Silicon Valley!
This feels like a historical video. Your home is beautiful, would love to bring housewarming gifts someday! As for the 'important question', one would typically water the orange tree for about a gallon's worth (or about 30 seconds... assuming regular full flow rate) each time - don't overwater though, the roots might drown! Otherwise, I think hiring a gardener might be better at this. Alternatively, you can also get oscillating sprinklers in places like Home Depot to save some time and energy. I live nearby (San Mateo) and we have gardeners who visit weekly for about $120/mo. Also, if you need a housekeeper to help with maintenance/upkeep then I can refer you to one who lives in nearby Mountain View. Welcome back to Silicon Valley!
Beautiful house Marina!! Happy for you guys! Gorgeous lighting, nice floor for social dancing ;)) and loe the garden 🍊🍋🌱 Enjoy the sun and look forward to the house tour 😍
I’m on the same boat. I decide to rent a house instead of buying one to be able to move around easily. One question for you is given you move around a lot, do you have a routine that helps with your productivity? I found myself waste a lot of time on micro adjustment when I move to a new place and form a new routine. It takes a while to create momentum for my work again.
I think when it comes to minimalism it means only having the stuff you need and use. Doesn’t mean everything is empty, but if you use each bedroom and bathroom, then only put in it what would will make use of!
Beautiful House...There are property managers everywhere that can manage your property if you're an absentee landlord. They will collect the rent & take care of any fix-it issues. Owners always come out ahead financially. The tax deductions alone would make it profitable for you. Plus appreciation & you get a place to live. I understand it's a big step to take, but financially it's a no brainer. A CPA would tell you the same. There are also leases with an option to buy. Your rent payment then becomes part of your down payment if you decide to buy. (Never hurts to ask). I just discovered your YT channel. Great content!
Thank you for sharing! I like the idea to invest instead of buying, then buying when you need to decrease your income for taxes or when it is "nothing" for you. I also like minimalist ways of thinking but my business does not allow me to follow it, since I need a powerful pc, several monitors and etc.
So happy for you that you found ways to invest your money and a perspective on things during these financially challenging times. Actually, I wish more women would talk about finance and investments, stocks, funds and what is smart to think about when investing. You know, how to secure your money and making them grow. I feel like men talk about this more and share their knowledge, and since women don’t I think that’s why less women are investing. Anyway, oh also, your American accent has improved soo much, I just had to mention it:) Hope you guys manage to stay on top of things until the borders open and your company can start flowing and growing again. Always rooting for you.
I can’t wait when schools will reopen, and I can finally get an i-20 form and go to San Diego. Everything around here is so green, warm, and this is spirit of business... I am in Moscow rn and here is -9 F outside, everything is grey, unpleasant.. people are grumpy
Hi. Just wonder why dont you consider a house for less amount of money , in bay area you could get a property for а million .. so if you dont wanna be attached to a place you could always manage by selling or etc
Некоторые эпизоды идентичны с русским каналом. Мне интересно, что записывается первым, русская или английская версия? Но смотреть интересно оба варианта 😉
Prices are exorbitant and risks are diverse, I believe that for someone who's polyglot and travels frequently been tied to an only expensive house is not worthy.
Great content! Could you please make an explaination video about your investments? I mean for instance the apps that you are using are only for people who live/ have bank account in the US? I would love to learn more about it but I dont really know where to start, I'm from Poland Moreover ,what would you recommend to learn more about stocking? Greetings!
Marina, I know the neighborhood you are in, my wife and I go to the Methodist church in Los Altos (LAUMC). You and your husband need to try the Original Pancake House for breakfast sometime.
if you rent a house with a payment of $7000/m, you will pay the same $2,371,000 over 30 years. Add to this the $500,000 invested at 7% in 30 years will be equal to the same $4,000,000. Thus, you need to rent no more than $ 7000 per month and have an annual return on investment of at least 7% to justify the choice in favor of renting
And I'd love to buy a house here in my home city, for about $5mln 😂 Who would have thought that prices here in Eastern Europe (Odessa) are bigger than those in California? :)))) But luckily, you don't need all this pitch deck thing, or credit history, or other nonsense here. But I'd still love to have a house in the US to live in when I'm coming to visit :)) appetites grow every time I look at the real estate market! ^_^
No, always buy at least one house! Houses appreciate (goes up in value over time) unlike cars that depreciates. Homeownership is a pain and not easy. But I made the most money selling my house after living there for only 4 years. You get to keep the profit on your primary home sale too so no taxed capital gains🙂. Any CPA will tell you to buy at least one house to flip. Real estate is always a good investment.
Buying a house early in life is overrated esp if one has better avenues to invest. And definitely not buy a house when prices are highly inflated. When you are young and exploring places you don't want to get locked down to a location. It actually hampers professional growth.
If your career or business is based on travelling a lot, therefore it makes sense not to buy a house. However, with a kid, I can't see it as being healthy for you or the kid travelling so much. Does buying a house have to be so expensive? Maybe something reasonable enough to live in and/or invest. Most homebuyers don't usually stay 30 years home in their mortgage. :) I am a single parent and have mortgage in the same house for 10 years but I'm ready to sell and buy.
