I started learning English when I was 14 through internet and tv and now I'm 18 and I'm Indian but my accent in like a native American. Everyone get shocked when they hear my accent. I am an interpreter. Idioms and colloquialisms are often the hardest for second language users to learn and understand. It’s nice to have a place to talk about them. English is very rich in idioms. Some more colorful idioms could be: Seeing red: enraged Blue in the face: basically it means wasting your time talking about a matter to the point as if you are running out of air and turning blue( I could tell him til I’m blue in the face and he will never understand ) In the red: in debt In the black: making a profit In the pink: healthy
As a native English speaker, I understand that “having the blues” means you’re melancholic or even depressed. I feel that I should caution non-native speakers from asking someone or referring to someone as “have the blues” because it can sound dismissive of how they really feel.

For example, I've never heard anyone under 50 say "paint the town red". Us Millennials seem to use metaphors more than expressions or sayings. Slang is an interesting thing.

I found this channel actually in 2018 when I was at mid-school. But, at that time my listening skill was so bad, I still lacked of vocabulary and I didn't understand even a single sentence from Marina's speech. But in quaratine period, I want to deal with it. I listen to Marina's videos everyday since October 2020. At first, it was hard to understand the videos. I had to pause the video, search the meaning of words at google, took a screenshots, etc. However, I keep did that for 1,5 months and I can recognize my skill was increasing. Until now, I keep listen to Marina's videos and now every time when I listen to Marina, it is very enjoyable and super clear. Thanks, teacher. Your voice is really beautiful that can make me motivated to learn english more. ❤

It's just "a figure of speech", or IDIOM. ... a similar situation with the next one down on your list. You obviously have LIVED in the U.S. to have such a grasp of these "sayings", slang, idioms, figures-of-speech .. because they can't be easily taught (or learned) from a book. In my modest opinion, you should try to speak slower, put the subtitles in English in all your videos and, finally, to give more examples in order to contextualise. For example, I love the fact that you use serials as examples but it would be better if you put the whole scene and not just a sentence, in order to better understand how to use that specific expression. This is kind of orange and apple comparison. Depend on how much time you spend on each class. English 101 might teach you how to write, read, sentence structure,...only in a semester or quarter. You'd never come back again after passing it. I took it too.

"Blue blood" is equally present in Hungarian. The nobles were so named because they were less affected by the Sun, and they were still in long attire, so they had so white and thin skin that they almost shone through their veins. So simple. :)

A lot of idioms pop up more in written speech or literature than in daily speech as well so it’s important to know them
Ya, the first time I heard "paint the town red," I thought it was a little too close to sounding like you're planning a massacre.
Year after writing this comment Doja Cat realised a song called "Paint the town red" that has reached 230M views by now.

The idiom 'white lie' can directly translate to 'सफ़ेद झूठ' in Hindi, which means the exact same thing
Same in Spanish
Same in turkish too. In turkısh we say beyaz yalan.
Safed zhooth in Hindi means the lie which clearly appears to be a lie.

It's just "a figure of speech", or IDIOM. ... a similar situation with the next one down on your list.
You obviously have LIVED in the U.S. to have such a grasp of these "sayings", slang, idioms, figures-of-speech ..
because they can't be easily taught (or learned) from a book. Well done !!!

You are amazing!! I swear, I love your videos!! May I just give you a piece of advice? In my modest opinion, you should try to speak slower, put the subtitles in English in all your videos and, finally, to give more examples in order to contextualise. For example, I love the fact that you use serials as examples but it would be better if you put the whole scene and not just a sentence, in order to better understand how to use that specific expression. I hope you don't mind about these suggestions! I love your style!

This is kind of orange and apple comparison. Depend on how much time you spend on each class. English 101 might teach you how to write, read, sentence structure,...only in a semester or quarter. You'd never come back again after passing it. I took it too.
There’s also weird emotions associated with colors that are sometimes opposites
Red - anger, love
Orange - energy
Yellow - happiness
Green - sickness, healing
Blue - sad, calm
Purple - royalty, posh
Black - unknown, funerals
Gray - mediocre, professionalism
White - purity in religious ways, usually paired with gold, weddings
Don't sound like natives, because nothing turns people quickly than nonnative tries to sound like natives.

"Blue blood" is equally present in Hungarian. The nobles were so named because they were less affected by the Sun, and they were still in long attire, so they had so white and thin skin that they almost shone through their veins. So simple. :)
