    Very nice. The final part for me to understand was to initiate the chest press while the arms are still on the water surface. Only then the hips can be prevented from sinking.

    This is a very common mistake and a easy one to fix too. When you do the stroke you want to push yourself forward, not upward. If you just push yourself upward your time is gonna be trash. Instead push yourself forward with barely enough space to breath. Hope this helps :)

    • @lorenzogarcia9890
      @lorenzogarcia9890 2 роки тому +1

      I tried pushing (actually bit feels like pulling) forward and the undulation do the rest for surfacing then breathing. And yeah this technique is far better than pushing upward.

    Hmm, in trying to learn this stroke again, after 50 years off, I think I will disagree with your comment about the kick power not involving the upper body. The amplitude is constant, except for the breathing stroke where the heels actually seem to lift slightly out of the water. Here, because of the need to rise up a bit out of the water and inhaling, the power for that kick comes from pretty much the waist down. On the recover/pull kick, your whole body is involved in the 'wave' that creates the power. You use it a bit when doing the dolphin kick on your side.

    • @_milk.woosh_5723
      @_milk.woosh_5723 Рік тому +1

      I’d have to disagree, I’ve been swimming for 6 years now and you want to keep most of the power of your kick from your abs down. The rising motion of your chest is important but that’s not where the power comes from, but it simply is there to keep the movement fluid.

    • @robohippy
      @robohippy Рік тому +2

      Old school methods used to teach that, but that is long gone. The breathing kick does this though because you are inhaling and can't use your abs as efficiently as you can when holding your breath or exhaling. Most fly people will use a higher amplitude kick for the breathing kick to compensate for this. I asked Gary Hall Sr. over at the Race Club about which was the more powerful kick, and he said it varies a lot from one swimmer to the next. Throwing your arms forward, and ducking your head initiates the wave, and the longer the wave is, the more power is generated. Watch any elite level swimmer pushing off the wall, or off the blocks. Their body from their head down to their feet is used for added power. On the underwater, the arms move, but I don't think they add much to the wave since you can't throw them forward when underwater.
