I loveeeeee it. Expenses can vary as per the brand. I have a bosch DW. Finish is good but Fortune is economical and equally good in terms of cleaning. With Fortune, it's less than 400. With finish its roughly 700 if I use it once a day for 30 days. I have never used cristal. Yes along with this, I need to invest a small amount on liquid detergent as I have few iron vessels(and I am not ready to let them go 🤪). I have almost switched to stainless steel starting from roti tawa till pressure cooker. I believe it a good investment. Peace and love

Hi Saumya, can we place the dishwasher on a wheel based trolley stand so that we can move it as and when needed. Or do we need to place the dishwasher in a fixated manner and no movement is possible. Thanks in advance!

A very catchy title 👌 All the points are nicely explained. I had been using a Bosch free standing dishwasher since five years and would any day vouch for the need of it in an Indian kitchen.
I use the finish salt, detergent and rinse aid from day one and would continue to use it.Results are pretty good.
The right salt settings and cleaning the filters periodically had helped me fix the limescale deposit on the dishes.
When it comes to smelly dishes,I use a hard bristled hand held brush to scrape off the solids from the dishes and load it,which guarantees sparkling dishes without clogging the filters often. This is one practice I had been following for years irrespective of whether I use a dishwasher or outsource the same.

The reason why lower rack vessels get cleaned much better is because of powerful spray from lower wings. Upper wings do not have enough power. That's why you should not place lighter items like plastic at bottom rack. It will just topple it. I have seen it multiple times. It's not because of heat. The dishwasher heats only the water and it reaches each and every corner in dishwasher.

Thanks for sharing your useful experience, which is so helpful. I would also like to share my experience of dishwashers. We do not rinse the utensils before they are placed inside the dishwasher but few steps help - (1) while the utensils are kept in sink they should remain soaked in water. As glasses bowls, plates etc. have raised sides, it can be done very easily. Spoons are soaked in used bowls or glasses. (2) burnt marks on milk and tea pans are difficult to be cleaned. It is better to give them little scrubbing before they are kept inside the dishwasher. (3) longer cycles with moderate temperature (50 degree or 55 degree) are good. Long cycles treat the utensils with repeated hot soapy water sprays, which help in giving extra cleaning and shine to the utensils. Moderate temperature ensures that utensils are not damaged in long run. (4) Intensive cycles with high temperature tends to adversely affect the plastics as well as glass utensils/containers and bowls. Intensive cycle is used only rarely. (5) Voltas Beko has a dedicated set of cycles, called AQUAFLEX which treats the utensils in upper rack with mild temperature and less force. It helps in protecting the plastics. (6) Voltas Beko has a third spray arm below the lower rack, which sprays the water with 5 times the power of a normal spray, it ensures that milk and tea stains are also perfectly cleaned, without prior scrubbing. (7) detergent gives excellent results as, for shorter cycles, we can use lesser amount of detergent, unlike the tablets which have predetermined amount of chemicals. Detergents are easily soluble. As I have been using dishwasher since October 2019, I have used detergent in LG (my last dishwasher) as well as Voltas Beko (my present dishwasher) with excellent results. Detergent costs Rs. 2 to Rs. 3 per cycle. Detergent is much cheaper and equally effective, if compared to tablets.

@@j.s.188 I bought LG in October 2019, at that time whereas Bosch and siemens etc. were being sold for around 34000/- (Which has now jumped to 45000/- for no real reason), the price of LG was around 52000/- LG was the only dishwasher with steam in it's spray arm and door. LG also had WIFI connectivity for certain functions. LG was the only dishwasher with inverter motor (which is brushless and has longer life and very low electricity consumption. LG had 10 years warranty on it's motor. Despite being excellent machine, LG dishwashers had a peculiar problem of not resuming the cycle from last stage, after power outage. After power interruption, the cycles used to get extended beyond 1 hour, causing delays and wastage of electricity. I returned it and studied about Bosch, Siemens and IFB. I found that these dishwashers had not improved their dishwashers with changing technology and their pricing was ridiculous. While viewing certain videos on this channel, I saw the wide range of Voltas Beko dishwashers. It took me 2 months to know more about Beko, which is an international brand with big demand in Europe, USA, UK, Australia and Arab nations. I interacted with many foreign users. Voltas collaborated with Beko to launch some of their popular dishwashers, which are so popular around the globe. I bought Voltas Beko DF14S2 model which is now being sold for 40000/- Voltas Beko has many unique features like - (1) It has 12 years warranty on motor. (2) Inverter motor is very energy efficient and has longer life. (3) Dishwasher is sound less. (4) it's all the cycles consume less than 1 unit of electricity. (5) average power consumption is 4.50/- per cycle.(6) it has a third lower impeller (spray arm) below the lower tray, which sprays hot water at 5 times the power of normal spray arm, to remove sturdy stains. (6) It has 38 wash cycles. (7) It has steam option as well as air drying for perfect drying of utensils. (8) It resumes cycle, from last stage, after power outage. (9) Voltas after sales service is top class, you just have to dial to the helpline for any assistance. I have seen dishwashers in USA when I had gone to meet my son and daughters in law. I can say that Voltas Beko is a very good dishwasher. Voltas Beko is 16000/- cheaper than LG and 5000/- cheaper than Bosch 12 place dishwasher, despite having world class features. Voltas also has 15 place WIFI enabled dishwashers. Are you using a dishwasher?

Namaste, thank u for your video. Your videos are very useful. I saw your videos on Dishwasher before going to purchase.
Dishwasher is comparatively new concept to digest by Indian specially in joint family. I am using voltas beko df14s2 since 2 months and happy with performance. Water is very hard in my area. So salt required is 3-4 kg per month. I am using fortune detergent powder (1 kg) which lasts for more than 1.5 month when used 2 cycles per day. So dishwasher consumable expenses are around 600 / month (using fortune products) except electricity bill.
As you said, finish tablets give excellent results. But it is very costly as compared to combination of salt + detergent + rinse aid.
Still I have doubt about electricity consumption as eco or intensive cycles take around 3 hours time.
Voltas beko df14s2 gives good results using eco + fast plus option which takes 1 hour 10 minutes.
In cleanness, I have almost same experience like you. Additionally, burnt vessels of milk or tea do not get cleaned in dishwasher.
    Keep posting your videos 👍

    • @TheGrapevineIndia
      @TheGrapevineIndia  3 роки тому +1

Thank you so much Neha! True Finish is expensive - but for me, no hassle of worrying whether vessels have cleaned or not 😊 about electricity - consumption is not so much - about 1kwh - which comes to approx -7-8 rupees per wash (depending on what the price for electricity is in your area). DF14S2 is a great model - have heard good reviews of that and the service of Voltas.

@@TheGrapevineIndia Your video made me think of considering, Voltas Beko, thanks for that again. I had some leftover stock of Fortune salt, Rinse Aid, detergent and Tablets, which I have been using with my previous LG dishwasher. With my new Voltas Beko (DF14S2), I got 2 tablets of Finish and some Finish Rinse Aid. As Voltas Beko also gave me a box of Vim Tablets. I have tried tablets of Fortune, Finish, Vim, as well as Fortune detergent. I can say that Fortune detergent which costs only 2 to 3/- per wash, gives equal results if compared to Finish or any other costly tablet. In fact, Voltas Beko dishwasher manual on page 16 specifically says that for better washing results, detergent, Salt and Rinse Aid should be used separately. Voltas Beko's Eco with Fast + option use .60 watt of electricity, which comes to about 4.50/-. As temperature in all the wash cycles of Voltas Beko is perfectly maintained, the results are really very good. I believe that apart from Voltas Beko, only Faber has such a vast range of wash cycles.

Great Video. My take from it will be not do pre rinsing and dirt removal. It just struck my mind that 'then what is the point of a dishwasher?' 😅 We settled with Voltas Beko tabletop after looking at Bosch and other brands because 40K is a lot if we are not sure of how many years it will last in our hard water area. So 20K sounded reasonable. It is very much useful, but because of the capacity limit and loading most Indian conventional vessels are comparable to putting a Bunch of Watermelons in a refrigerator, we still have to wash some vessels by hand 🙂 I bought the Bosch salt, Rinse aid and detergent as I was not so sure of other best selling ones in Amazon, it kind of suited well. Only once because of low Rinse aid level, I noticed white layer upon all vessels, that didn't look good at all. So once we finalized the process and things to check before each wash cycle, letting it run became a day to day activity.

From the food science perspective, milk contains protein which solidifies with heat. Rice contains starch which hardens with exposure to air due to dehydration. The solution to both would be presoak in cold water and followed preferably by a light scrub before placing these soiled utensils in the DW.

Agree with ur point abt provision of space. We struggled with this too. If its one's own house, we can tweak and make provisions. If staying in a rented accomodation, we need to ensure everytime we shift house, if all our appliances will fit properly.
We measured the appliance in the shop when fully open & then marked out the space on the floor at home. We used the space provided for washing machine, as power point and water hook up were in place. For washing machine, we did our own "jugaad" in the bathroom.

@@priyankalal5998 @Priyanka Lal Hey Priyanka! Great that you're considering to buy a dishwasher. I'm a big fan and consider it a boon. Faber 12 place dishwasher doesn't have a steam drying option but it uses heat while washing so there's steam. This increases the cycle time (Eco) to 3hr:45min as compared to Bosch 12 place (2hr:30min) machine which uses steam drying. Despite being longer eco cycle in faber 12 place, it consumes 0.9KW only. So the vessels are sparkling clean and I'm getting very good results even at the top shelf. In Indian kitchen we have a lot of cookware to wash which takes maximum place at the bottom drawer. Hence, considering your family size I'll strongly recommend 14 place. Mine is a family of 3 and it takes 1.5 days for a full load.
I use Fortune detergent salt, rinse aid and salt combo. I'm very happy with the results it can make my highly greasy vessels (used for ghee making) too sparkling clean and saves money too.
Hope I was able to answer all your queries. Happy to help!

Hi Maya! True, but the middle rack can be adjusted in most full sized dishwashers - so if you have larger vessels you can adjust that. Very good suggestion. Basically dishwashers are integral part of kitchen. That is why, almost all the dishwashers have identical dimensions. Probably till the dimensions of dishwasher are revised, having a supplementary 8 place dishwasher in kitchen would solve the problem. Beko has 8 place dishwashers also. Abroad, Beko has slimline series of dishwashers, which have height of a 14 place dishwasher but are very narrow to get accommodated in small kitchen, under the kitchen top.

  • @aseemsharan

    Few questions.
    1. You mentioned that you directly place the dirty place in dishwashers. This would result in morning plates, to be there in the dishwasher for around 12 hours if not more. Won't this lead to dried out and tough stains?
Generally, people recommend keeping the dirty plates in water so that it's easy to clean.
What's your experience with this? And what do you recommend?
    2. Can you provide some links of the kadhayi or other utensils you bought? Specially kadhayi is mostly hindolium in most of the houses, so it'll be helpful.

Hi Aseem, I have had instances where it stays in the dishwasher before wash for over 12 hours. Yes it could dry it out - but these days dishwasher and detergent technology has improved significantly that does not require pre-rinsing. I've had my Faber Tabletop 8 place dishwasher for several weeks now and I love it. The milk boiler goes in directly without even rinsing and comes out sparkling. I chose that instead of the Voltas Beko because they seem to be identical except for the price.
Have you expanded on the "no need to pre rinse or scrub" point anywhere else? I need some backing evidence because I want to try and prevent my MIL from practically scrubbing everything 90% clean before I load the machine because perversely I feel like the dishes she scrubs actually seem to retain a thin film of some residue. I've had violent disagreements on this issue with my mom and my atta also, both saying dishwashers involve a lot of work with scrubbing and rinsing before loading and if one has to do that one might as well go the whole hog and wash everything oneself.
We use traditional stainless steel plates with a 1.5" rim and I manage to squeeze them in, and even my 8L Hawkins tall cooker once. I'm not putting in the lids because the nonstick black handle part got discoloured, plus I worry about the pressure valves. For the rice ladle, I usually jam it in the lower rack between dishes and that does tend to give me better results. I used Finish products for my first month but I've ordered Amazon's Presto brand and will see how they work. I'm in Vizag on top of a hill and I'm not sure what sort of water is pumped to us, but after experimenting I've turned my hard water gauge all the way up to maximum. Would it harm the machine or dishes in any way if this is actually too high?
I love your videos, thank you for the work you do and the effort you put it.
I already have an Air Fryer, but I've never been able to make my microwave with a combo convection function work like an actual oven. Do you have any tips to help me use my MW (or the air fryer) as a "proper oven"?

      @TheGrapevineIndia  2 роки тому

Hi Swapna! That’s a long post 😊 thanks for taking the time to write to me.
I do mention it in many videos that modern dishwashers do not need pre rinsing or scrubbing. They actually require some amount of gunk to do the job well. When the vessel is too burnt, you can still put it in the dishwasher and if it does not go, wash later - effort is much lower. I have stuck to finish products as they work well for me. As for salt, if your dishes are not washed properly, you can fiddle with that setting. Otherwise you are good to go.
About air fryer - you can look for many air fryer cake recipes online - it will guide you. 😊

actually USA has been using dishwashers for more than 100 years. USA and European Union have standardized most of the gadgets, including dishwashers. As per strict standards every dishwasher in world is required to have a cycle which consumes not more than 1 unit of electricity. This cycle is called Eco Cycle. Eco cycle is extremely good if you happen to be a regular user of dishwasher because - (1) your electricity consumption is within control. (2) Even with low cost detergents (Not Tablet) , you get sparkling clean utensils. (3) As it use moderate temperature and water jets, the utensils do not lose shine. Eco cycle may take 2 to 3 hours, depending on a particular brand. While using Eco cycle, we use delay mode to allow the dishwasher to start about at 3.30 a.m. so that by 7 a.m., utensils are available to us.

Every Dishwasher performs on 3 basic mandates, set by USA and European Union. As such every dishwasher is bound to give you good cleaning. Even then, if you buy an established company's dishwasher, you are assured of long term availability of spares and after sales service. Voltas, Faber, Bosch, IFB, Siemens are few good brands, with good track record. I have used LG and Voltas Beko dishwashers. While visiting my son and daughter in law in US, I had the opportunity of using Bosch also. LG has certain issues, you can visit showrooms to evaluate the dishwashers. Voltas is in my use, I can say that it is a wonderful Dishwasher.

Hi Teetam! Thanks for sharing :) Yes, there is an inconsistency with deep charred vessels - I face that too. There is really no good answer to that currently - it could be due to a variety of reasons - the position of placing the vessel, the combination of salt and rinse aid, etc. I normally tend to ignore the one of cases and hand wash them myself after the wash :) I'm told the latest Finish Quantum tablets help to solve these - have not tried it myself. Longer cycles (more than 150 minutes) normally clean dirty utensils, including tea and milk pots. Voltas Beko has a fourth spray arm, which throws hot water at 5 times the normal pressure and normally cleans everything. Practically, giving a little scrubbing to tough burnt marks is better than using very hot cycles and strong tablets BEAUSE, in long run, the hard chemicals dim the flowery designs of dinner plates and leave etching marks on glass bowls and glasses. Using tough cycles and tablets is ok if it is used occasionally. We have experienced that for regular cleaning, Eco and Auto cycles or 60 minutes cycles are very good, even if it requires little scrubbing, which hardly takes 60-80 seconds.

With change in cost, features, which are of use get enhanced. A dishwasher may have 2 spray arms. another may have 2 spray arms and a top rotating spray, Another dishwasher like Voltas Beko will have 3 spray arms and a fourth top rotating spray. Having a cutlery tray is another dimension. If you have already purchased a dishwasher, stay happy, as any dishwasher in the world is well equipped to handle dirty utensils. If you are in the process of buying a dishwasher, You can buy as per your needs.

A few things that helped me get better results for the burnt kadais:
    1. I use the intensive kadai mode.
    2. If the kadai was used in the previous meal, i.e. it has had some time to cake in, I use a pre-rinse cycle with 3-5 gm of detergent sprinkled on the door.
    3. If I have a burnt kadai or a milk/tea pan which will probably get washed after the next meal vessels are also available, I do a normal pre rinse cycle immediately and then do the required wash cycle once all the vessels are available for wash.
    4. Dishwashers were originally designed for having some detergent available even in the pre-rinse cycle but with the rise of the all in one tablets, such a receptacle is no longer present in several dishwashers. Dishwashers work better with some detergent in pre-rinse cycle. Sprinkling some on the door before closing it is a reasonable work around. I do that for all wash cycles now. I have had good results.
    5. Vessels which I know will give trouble, I take care to ensure that they will be squarely in the path o the water jets during operation. After a few times, it becomes pretty intuitive.
Rice ladles are bowl shaped. The top drawer which generally contains flat cutlery is generally inadequate for them. I treat these as a bowl with a handle and I place them accordingly in the middle rack.
I am planning to use a different dishwasher detergent. My current one from fortune admittedly contains phosphates, also, I am hoping that other detergents might do a better job.

@@pravincpoojari I used to face this but it depends on a few things and here’s my opinion , I have seen that with heavy bottomed stainless steel tea does not burn that much. If there is brown bits left after making tea, then the dishwasher would find it hard. Also these brown bits happen more when we reheat tea. My experience got better when we started using milk cooker and tri ply stainless steel cookware. But if we use the normal stainless steel with just single wall, it can burn milk and dishwasher would definitely not be able to handle it. Using a more stronger detergent may help but we have to do trial and error. Using tablets may help as they are stronger. Also when using milk pans you can try adding some little bit of detergent into the Pre wash compartment of dishwasher or simply into the dishwasher along with vessels so that it soaks for longer tome and there is better chance of dirt removal.

Yes - burnt dishes or tea vessels which have heat marks on the side due to heating do not get cleaned. Even in the case of normal scrub, those take more scrubbing to clean. Recently a viewer tried the vinegar solution for cleaning and it worked for them. Unfortunately in cSe of dishwasher there is a bit of trial and error till we get it right.
