- Which Indian Utensils SHOULD NOT BE WASHED in dishwasher? Can Aluminium, Non Stick and Anodized kadais, tawas and pressure cookers be washed in Dishwasher? I previously did a video on which Indian vessels you can and cannot use in your dishwasher. I received a lot of questions on Aluminium and non-stick and hence I will address those questions in this video.

Aluminum cant be used directly, the utensils we use are not pure Aluminum its "Hindalium" which is one of the alloy of Aluminum. Hindalium can be used to cook food and eat it do not have any health problems.
Really? How can we identify between aluminium and handalium?

Most modern cookware is either nonstick or anodized or cast iron. I am thinking ceramic kadai and ceramic saucepans. Tawa too. Hope they come up with better milder detergents so we can include nonstick.
Hi Anoo, Ceramic is OK to be used in Dishwasher. Consolidating my responses from your other questions - silicone too. Pet water bottles - generally no, unless it is certified as dishwasher safe. Recycleable plastic containers - in general no. When I do have a website up and running, will consolidate in a table :)

Hi Saumya, informative video. My stainless steel pressure cooker's safety valve(made of aluminium) got damaged due to corrosion since I washed it in the dishwasher. The aluminium screws of stainless steel utensils also damage if we regularly wash them in dishwasher. Can u suggest anything for this problem?
Hi Chanda, oh never wash the lid of the pressure cooker in the dishwasher - for safety reasons. Unfortunately there is no remedy for aluminum in dishwasher yet. Sorry - wasn't able to help much with this question.

Hi Arpana, no cast iron cannot. The heat and detergents will strip off the seasoning from cast iron - which is not good.

Hi, no iron / cast iron should not be put in the dishwasher primarily because it takes a long time to build up the nonstick surface on cast iron (through repeated oiling) and dishwashing detergents will take that out and can cause it to rust. Every time you use iron - please attempt to keep it well oiled after wash so that it is not prone to rusting.
What about enamel coated tin containers, silicone brush, silicone spatula. Are these DW safe?

Are Bakelite handle of cookware dishwasher safe? Should we stick to the ss handle cookware?
Hi! There is no published research on that explicitly. Dishwasher manufacturers neither say yes or no. However - I have seen some bakelite handle manufacturers say it is dishwasher safe. Since it is not directly in contact with food - you could still use it in the top rack only where heat is less.

Hi Aminin, in general - stainless steel, ceramic and glass. I use this brand for stainless steel - which is quite good amzn.to/3S8JZqK - most of it works for both induction and gas too. Alternatively, can also consider this brand amzn.to/3cURWjo - mainly for glass and stainless steel.

Hi @SFatima Kh! No, cast iron cannot be washed. Ceramic and silicon can be.
PET water bottles, recyclable plastic containers such as honey bottles etc. Just complete list of materials with yes/no column will be great.

Can we wash non stick pan in bosch dishwasher?
Hi Irfan, in general - no. As highlighted in the video, the non stick surface can get damaged - causing harm to your health due to food cooked using that vessel.
How about brass ?
I have huge brass vessels which I use only for cooking huge amount of food for parties

Hi Zafar, Anodized vessels are also aluminium - so not recommended because if it gets pitted, it is not good for health at all (poisonous even).

Hi Rajeswari, firstly check your manual to see what is the maximum TDS level supported by your device. If it is 900PPM (mostly it is around this range) - you may need an external water softener (like this amzn.to/2PhDdTR or kent) in addition as otherwise your machine will get spoilt over time and your wash quality also will not be great.

Hi Anoop, brass and silver utensils do get a bit discolored due to oxidation.
Bosch service person didn't check my water hardness level. I said several times but no response. Now iam suffering.

Hi Manjunath, Yes - I have been noticing that these days. But if you look at the dishwasher manuals, it will clearly state non-stick and aluminium should not be used.
