I think todays episode should be called "we never give up". Both with Pauly doing all those horses feet, and catching and being kind to Fergie, you guys were so patient with her. She was clearly really really scared. I think once she gets her confidence she is going to be very sweet.

You're so lucky to have Pauly! Most farriers these days won't deal with horses that are uncooperative and some expect absolutely perfect behavior. I can't say that I blame them, but in the world of rescues you get so many in desperate need that haven't been properly trained if handled at all. He's a real gem to put himself through all these inexperienced and sometimes naughty horses and still keep coming back!

Those big drafts are used to a hard time. They fight because its always been scary, getting their feet done, i think. Hopefully, with time and patience like Pauly shows, they will realize its ok to just calm down.

Pauly risking life and limb once again to help the horses. I don't know why anyone would say anything bad about him. All I see is a man who is passionate about helping horses and willing to risk some pretty extreme danger to do it. These horses are not used to proper care and a scared horse is a dangerous horse.

Pauly deserves a medal for the patience he has and the sheer physicality of being a farrier to a bunch of huge horses that won't stand without being tied in the stocks. Don't people who have draught horses ever teach them from young to pick up their feet and have at least have a rasp put around them so they get used to having their feet done? (But then I's suppose it's safer in there, they can't lean him! )He's so good at what he does 🙂 It's a shame that they don't understand what you are ALL doing for them and where they may be now without you.💜PS Did the kittens survive?

Something has to have been done to make Fergie so afraid. And the factr that she is such a huge breed of horse really amps up the danger factor to working with her. Thank you for being so patient and understanding for her. You can tell that Fergie is going to be a good horse, eventually. She seemed curious, but afraid to take that first step into a stall. And, as usual, Pauly, you're the best.

Oh my goodness.. Those kittens are preemies.. no hair..definitely not full term..got to keep them warm..on hot water bottles with fleece covering..2 hrly feeds instead of 4 as they won't be able to take much milk..and hope for the best..l would be suprised if they made it unfortunately l think they're just too early..but fingers crossed 🤞..Freida definitely had no intention of being caught..l just wondered what they did to her to get her to walk into the auction ?.. it makes you wonder doesn't it..and Puppeteer..well that ping pong ball size abcess that Pauly found explains sooo much..Doc couldn't find anything wrong..chiropractor did a few things but she was still not wanting to use that foot and now we know why..once that drys up l bet she'll be a right as rain..and she was returned for that reason..well good because they didn't even bother to find out if there was an issue..he also said her hooves were full of stones..imagine trying to walk on an abcess and a shoe full of stones..hell we'd be limping too.. well done Pauly..Joan Jett..god those feet were overgrown. It must be so darn uncomfortable for them.. Sunny and sweet Iris found their furever homes..but l must admit l have a soft spot for Fred ..l adore a hig Belgian and he is a handsome dude and well behaved too..loved how Cindy and Rae handled Freida..a darn hig horse to control and keep calm..and l don't know the name of the lady who got that harness on..!! GOOD JOB !! 👍 required patience and ingenuity..😊👏👏Another great video. For the kittens you can rub them with a soft washcloth to warm them and get circulation going, and let them sleep with a heating pad that stays on a pretty low heat with a layer between the babies and the pad. That will help warm them at least. I hope Butterscotch takes them in, but cats will reject kittens that have unseen problems. You may be handraising some of them. I feel so sad for those babies, but happy they have you all.

Horses are creatures of pressure and release. Even eyes looking directly at them or open hands that represent claws to them will make them react poorly. With time most horses will come around, but the professionals have worked out most of the mistakes we humans make. The girls are doing okay though. It's a learning process.

I wish I had the property to take on a horse again. I would take Fergie in less than a second. That mare needs daily and consistent work, I've worked with many like her and worse. She's super sweet and just running scared, I've had ones that will actively charge and attack out of fear. Breaks my heart to see such a sweet horse in this mental state. I wish I was close enough to volunteer my time and work with your difficult cases like her, it's hard to give the consistency needed when there's so many that need help.

Georgie is so pretty-almost a palomino. Auto correct apparently not familiar with the name Fergie.

I wish someone would invent better farrier equipment so they wouldn't have to strain so much. I myself have done a little trimming and the strength it takes to cut through some hooves is ridiculous! With all we know I am actually surprised we couldn't make cutters that take less effort to cut. ugh

Farriers wear some sort of protective gear "down there" to protect the family jewels, right?

If a nail goes through where they weren't expecting and there's no protection in the area, it can pierce the thigh artery (which is close to the surface of the skin on the inner thigh) and cause someone to bleed out in minutes. And that's just one of the purposes the protection serves, rather than it being for one singular purpose alone.

I thought you were supposed to keep them quietly moving until you see the licking and chewing. . . Then maybe a bit more time until they turn in and “Join Up”.
Cross signals here with Fergie. Pressure is ON!!!

No idea if anyone will read this, but I have heard about cans of fruit lick for horses which people use to distract and also keep horses focused as fariers are doing hooves,

love hoof trimming videos, but those drafts are the next thing, so much power and then the creaking stock, oeefff scary. I won t complain as much about my tb pulling his foot back

Have never worked around drafts but I cannot help but think that there must be a better way than putting them in stocks. So many seem to get scared and putting ropes on their legs is so counter to a horses instinct to flee when frightened. This is not a negative comment about Pauly or Pony Tales Refuge, who do such good work on behalf of the horses, but more a thought about a need that could be met by a new invention or construction.

The stocks are for the safety of people and horses. Imagine getting kicked or stomped on by a big draft hoof.
It restrains movement but is not made to cause pain. We’re just not used to seeing chains.

Once the horses become trained/used to a good farrier, then stocks will no longer be needed

Can you put her in a smaller pen, or keep her moving until she hooks up with the person? She’s not mean you can tell shes scared. If they could tell us what their lives were like we would all cry.
