    I clicked on the "thumbs up" button before I started watching this video. I trust Jason! I also enjoyed his recent conversation with Douglas Rushkoff where Jason's seemingly boundless techno-enthusiasm found what I would call a common-ground foil :-)

    I wonder how many "normal" people meet Jason each day and just assume he's some stoner who has no idea what he's talking about. I like to talk about many of the same things here in Texas, and I unfortunately get that alot. LoL.

      EccentricSM Hi, I understand your thought on my skin, because here in Ukraine, there is still less chance to get a relevant talk of this sort live. Why? There are plenty of causes. It's more interesting to notice why does Jason makes it differently? My guess is because he has created a background by his projects and he is meeting people, that understand and share a context of discussion. So, he talks with specific people on specific subjects.

      +EccentricSM I also live in Texas and encounter this a lot. I try to find the humor in it though and toy with the dynamic of presenting challenging thought to a culture that is extremely focused on material survival in a three dimensional existence and frowns on self-reflection. I recently asked a few of my co-workers if they ever think about how strange it is to be anything at all, that existence is even existent and that there is something, a universe, instead of nothing at all. They looked at me with faces of complete and utter horror and silence until one of them eventually said, "no". I think it shows how alienated the 'cultured' people are from their own existence. Force them to look at their existence from a perspective deeper than their culturally appointed ego identification and the same ego sees it as an existential threat. It seems like culture is just the collective ego and it takes a special person, an ubermensch, to toss aside the cultural hallucinations and behavioral programs and peer beyond the veil.

    Right, so for those who are saying Silva is a stoner. Let me challenge you to talk and to learn with as much passion and flow as Silva. His facial expression, his extroverted methods are what he uses to send out his energy and get his feedback, but he is in such a flow state he doesn't every realise. ENERGY AND PASSION my friends, that's what WE lack.

      Metropolitan Sleuth I couldn't agree with you more. It is one thing to understand and consume the information passively , but to actively produce these thoughts and bring ideas to words and reality takes not only someone who is interested in these topics but also one who can also make them interesting to others.

    This topic of whether the technological singularity is going to be good or bad seems to come up in these conversations, first with Douglas Rushkoff and now with Erik Davis. What I think is that yes, there is great reason for optimism and excitement about the development in technology, but only if it is accompanied with actual engagement in social issues. What the world will look like depends on us. If we, collectively as citizens of democratic (at least in name) nation states, choose to remain as passive towards the injustices and wrongs we see in our societies, we can expect the cutting edge technologies to be used as they have been so far: to kill people, to spy people, to manipulate people with mass propaganda, to dull people in to a comfortable sleep with a high tech version of bread and circuses.
    I am an optimist only because I believe that an awakening is happening, and because I have chosen to dedicate myself to accelerate this positive change in consciousness. We already have the technology, the skills and the know-how to create an abundant paradise on earth, the thing stopping us is our outdated social system based on consumerism, which means manipulating people to buy stuff they don't need, to put it bluntly.
    With the rapid evolution of technology we are gaining the ability to realize our dreams at a faster and faster rate. We can even take control of our "phenomenological flow", as Jason beautifully put it, authoring our own lives. We should use this power on a larger level. What I mean is a kind of collective, applied existentialism, with people voluntarily, through our actions, our thoughts, our ability to affect reality, creating the kind of world we want to see: free, abundant, just, peaceful, beautiful.

    • @onesendzeroes4800
      @onesendzeroes4800 6 років тому

      That's a really funny thing to me ... "realizing dreams", we used to live in dreams. Materialising them ain't gonna bring them back, but it will be a high tech version of it, I suppose

    @39:00 you guys are talking about liminality - the period in between social constructs (turner - the ritual process) but I've never thought of it as being something that we innately desire and chase, that we achieve further psychic maturation by going through these processes more frequently

    i wanna like sorta believe that jason is actively listening and feeding eriks words and information inward to the space where he holds all his fantasies and subjective ecstasies, where he then acutely absorbs or discards information depending on the appetite of his intellectual preference, so that the sum of information which underwent absorption could be uniquely felt and processed 'neuro-physically' by jason to charge or sustain his flow state which he tries to keep transcending... reason why because Jason admits that he could on some occasions can be thrown into a fit of catharsis when he hears beautiful music or the words that come out of the lips of others, when filled with such depth and vastness! when Jason is exposed to an atmosphere where its rich, and meaningful, and theres complexity and novelty and beauty, he'll be enveloped in awe.... and i wanna think that what he does is a natural ability that he decided he'd dive into and figure out and ultimately finesse. Jason can so very easily utilize the dopamine he creates off his engagement in vivid contemplation and deep conversation which for him is a kind of mental stimulation or intellectual masturbation to turn it into food "dopamine" to charge or sustain his flow state. so whilst conversing with an erik davis who has a sexy mind, Jason silva is hyper-coherent and at the same time internally flipping switches and levers to hack his experience and mentally make his own brain essentially have sex with its self which yields all the deep splendiferous emotions and awe and small pockets of catharsis i believe he just can't get enough of....finally i believe he may actively be trying to lengthen or strengthen the duration of time he spends in a flow state and what have you ....... now thats wild, but thats really is what i deadass think fam lol

    Love it. Incredible concepts and exchange. I wasn't able to concentrate on Erik as Jason was a bit too enthusiastically resonating…which is a great quality..but I’de prefer more cuts to Erik only so I could follow his thoughts as the interviewee. Being honest, I was wondering if Jason was on something, which is fine if that’s the case, but i felt it disabled his ability to actually listen and allow Erik to develop his ideas to their full extent. Otherwise really good stuff.

    I usually don't read books, but I may have to get this one. For someone to get so enthused about something (yes it can be credited to the conversation but I am sure some of that stems from the book itself, of course the fact that he is speaking with the author of it is a definite stem or stemming, however it may be called) definitely sparks a curiosity in me and is something I would myself to be exposed to.
    It's great to see people get this excited about... well anything, really. And it's great to see that someone can be so perceptive, attentive and engaged with that level of excitement. Idk if I have ADHD or something but there were times I found it distracting lol.

    The state of mind mentioned at around 31 minutes to engage in that kind of urban shamanism where everything is possessed with animism was the mode of meditation I fell into when studying Zen meditation through Eckhart Tolle's "The Power of Now". That book is not self help, it's all about "playing with perception" and it all started with asking, is a tree a tree?

    label, labels and more labeled can we free our mind of labels. Each person experience is unique, one of kind can we start there, even ask the question to get the answer wanted is inspirational. We are a experiment! The human experiment is becoming aware. No wrong's or right's - yet emotions and experience you get to choose from, what happen next is not random, but becomes reality. So much to choose from.

    I admire the enthusiasm of Jason Silva, however I believe Jason Silva as an Interviewer needs refinement - The "un-hunh" and "yeah-yeah" and "right" interjections come across as rude. Please let the guest speak when he/she is speaking and have more patience until the guest has completed his or her phrase or idea, until you decide to let out audible remarks that interrupt the speaker. It is polite to nod in order to agree, with the occasional audible noise, however, Jason Silva is coming accross as rude with his frequent audible interjections. But please keep your enthusiasm and display it in a less audible way when letting someone else speak. Thanks.

    • @Axelrun1994
      @Axelrun1994 9 років тому +8

      why do you find the interview so hard to watch? ask yourself that. is it Jason's over ecstatic, and enthusiastic mannerisms and voice tone? the guy's young and passionate about topics that are relevant to all of us, and he knows he's still learning himself, which adds to his already showing enthusiasm. is it Erik's nonchalant and laid back style making him look apathetic or uninterested? the man is in his late 40's, he's aged, he already studied these topics so he's more like a sort of mentor (you take the info if it helps, if not its all good, carry on) and altho he knows not what the future holds, he still has predictions or opinions which are showing to be very probable.
      the contrast between the two in style is very different which might make it hard to watch, but the message is still there, protruding like glorious morning wood for everyone to gaze at.
      if its hard to watch scroll down or open a different tab, the information is still very interesting, true and worth taking into account.

    homy seems crazy, like sociopathic a little bit. is that just me? he smiles way too much, seems not genuine. loved his convo with rushkoff. like a bro who listened to 2 hours of mckenna without thinking about it too much. maybe im mean. iono.

    great piece this. however, the host/interviewer's enthusiasm is distracting. too bad because even listening to it without watching the video i still hear his long winded interjections.

    I wish Jason was a bit more expressive . It’s difficult to tell whether or not he finds the subject interesting.

    I'm a huge Silva fan! I think it's hilarious how he can't sit still whenever a guest is speaking, looks like he needs to pee! But really, he's just super present and involved in the conversation.

    Jason came off very rude with the "yay" and "uh-huh" and "right, right", it's as almost as if he disagreed with Erik.
