There is a documentary series called " Chasing the `sun" that tells the story of the Springboks Journey to the 2019 Rugby World Cup. A wonderful section about Mapimpi, a real tear jerker!
Yes Mookie will then understand what makes the springboks so special. He will get to understand what some of our players had go through to get where they are.
Rewatched it last week. Still get teary eyed at that part man.

Fun fact. Cheslin Kolbe is the cousin to Wayde van Niekerk who is the World Record holder for the 400m. Running must be in the family genes
Bro didn't even know that, and im South African...

And Wayde’s gran was his coach. 🤟🏽

Welcome to the Springbok family ❤. These players are our pride and joy. Stands for unity and love ❤️
Appreciate you for watching
Our PRIDE AND JOY
15 players each side, you get 8 Substitutes. The game only stops when fouls are commited. Number 1 - 8 are your forwards usually your big/heavy guys and 9 - 15 are your backs (the players with more flair)
Players have to defend and attack.
Positions
1 & 3 are props
2 Hooker
4 & 5 Locks
6 & 7 Flankers
8 - Eighth man
9 Scrumhalf
10 Flyhalf
11 & 14 Wingers
12 & 13 Centres
15 Fullback
OK. Thanks very much for the information.
Thank you so much!
Worth mentioning, most teams will run 5 forwards (big strong dudes) and 3 backs (smaller fast blokes) or 6 forwards 2 backs… but South Africa runs something called a 7-1 split, meaning the have 7 forwards and 1 back on the bench. Nicknamed the nuclear squad… because they’ll put in 7 fresh forwards mid game. Absolutely insane
Always place for one more Bok supporter! Welcome to team Mookie! As the Robbie Wessels song says, "The Bokke makes us one!" 🇿🇦🇿🇦💚💚
Appreciate the comment my guy
Bokke makes us one indeed! 🇿🇦🫡🤝🏽
Hey guys. Im a South African and the Bokker known locally welcome your support. The names are not on the back of the jerseys because we know our players as you now see there different styles and strengths. And its a scrum when the fowards defend a set piece. Love your enthusiasm
Appreciate the comment ✊🏽
Bryan habana was 1 of the greatest Springbok wings ever 😭 you should check him out he is a Springbok Wing Legend ..
I remember playing rugby08 and bro was legit broken😂😂🔥
All started with the great Gerrie Germishuys...
There are a few other wingers that have become lost over time. One of the greatest Springbok wingers back in the day was Chester Williams. Like Kolbe and Willemse, he was a pure speedster. It was like watching a thoroughbred racehorse in action. Just the pure acceleration and speed was incredible.
@@AaAa-on4mx Yea, who remembers Nicky Davids? I played with him in the army...we won the Border tournament 😆
@@francoiswilliams Another that is becoming overlooked too is Breyton Paulse. Another speed monster.
Hey guys im South African, i love your enthusiasm for the sport!..
The jersey numbers in Rugby traditionally dont represent any personal numbers players want but rather the numbers represent the postion in the team, the numbers switch depending on what position the coach wants the player, hence you see players with different numbers depending on the coach and position.
Thank you appreciated it family
Loving you guys enjoying and appreciating our team 🇿🇦 Mapimpi is one of our heros 😍 you should watch Chase the Sun ❤ The jersey number doesnt belong to one player its the poistion .
Look up the story about Makezole Mapimpi's 2019 Rugby World Cup campaign. All the players had photos of family and friends to paste into their numbers. Makazole gave 3 pics of himself. Some in the team grinned. Coach Rassie asked him; "but why only pictures of yourself Mapimps?" He answered, "I HAVE NOBODY"...
Always room for more Bok fans! Don't forget to watch the upcoming Rugby World Cup in France where we aim to defend our 2019 title 🎉🏉🏆
And we took it! Still on a high from that win

I only watch your channel for Mookie 😂🎉🎉. You guys are great. Thank you for Cape Town South Africa.
Mookie for president 😅
There's always room for one more fan to get behind the 'Boks! Especially when it's a World Cup year.
the part where ya'll said "he want the smoke" for Mapimpi. Context is that when the boks played against Australia previously it was the exact same scenario but Aus made a huge foul play and injured Mapimpi. So that try and shove was revenge
I'm Welsh. I love my rugby but we can't counter Canan Moodie. He's just too fast. He's a treasure to watch. A fantastic player and because he's so you, hopefully, he'll take the Springboks to greatness.
Have you watched any American Eagles matches? They're Tier C rising to Tier B.
And only 20 - he reads the game exceptionally well
I didn't realize the eagles are increasing their tier level. Did u know their head coach is Gary Gold a south African coach?
Numbers 1 to 15 are your match-day starter players then 16 to 23 are your reserve players who can be used as substitutes (BENCH) at any time by the coach or if a player is injured. A game lasts 80 minutes ( 2 x 40 min with a 15-minute break) A team is made up of 23 players of which 15 are your starting players the rest are on your bench. Only 15 players per team are allowed on the field during the game.
1-8 are your big heavier + taller guys (but 6,7,8 can be deceptively fast as well) 9-15 are your quicker more agile players and 11 and 14 are usually the quickest players on the field. 16- 23 (bench players ) are a mix of 1-8 type players and 9-15 type players. The coach picks the types of players for his bench. The bench players 16-23 are usually split 5 -3 so 5 of those players are 1-8 type players and 3 players are 11-15 type players. All players can and must attack and defend at all times according to their game plan. Keeping possession of the ball and using it to score points is what it takes to win the game. Numbers 1 to 8 are known as (forwards) and 9 - 15 are called backline players. (backs)
When a player scores a try (5pts) he has to touch the ball on the ground with control of his hand once he crosses the try line. Now the closer he gets to poles (H) to do it, the easier it is for the kicker to kick the ball over for 2 extra points. That's why they hold onto the ball and try to run as close as possible to the middle of the poles to reduce the angle for the kicker. No 10 usually kicks for poles but for some teams, it can be No15 or No9. Whoever is the best usually kicks.
Number 9 controls the tempo and pace of the game and how numbers 10 to 15 will attack (planned moves) You will see them pointing, chirping, and directing their players all the time and also winding opposition players up. Numbers 1 - 8 usually defend a lot and try to steal the ball back once an opposition player is tackled, but 1-8 can also be used to attack if there is an opportunity or a planned move. Number 9 is always around to retrieve and pass the ball back to his team's runners (attackers) to gain a few more yards or break through the opposition's defence until they can score. Number 10 is also an important player in getting numbers 12,13,14 and 15 to attack and link up with each other or to organise defence. Number 10 is like a quarterback The GENERAL if he has a bad day your team will usually have a long hard day.
You can only tackle below shoulder height and must wrap both arms around the player or you will be penalised. Players have to avoid head contact with each other and you can't tackle a player in the air (jumps to catch a ball) You can fairly contest for the ball in the air though. If you are tackled to the ground ( when a knee touches the ground) you must place or release the ball backwards ASAP or you will be penalised and ball possession will be given to the opposition for a scrum or a penalty. That is why you see as soon as a player with the ball is tackled and hits the floor he instantly turns to place it backwards so his team can keep possession. VIP, the player who made the tackle must also roll away so the player who got tackled can place the ball backwards or the ref will give a penalty if you don't move out of the way. With a penalty, the team can either kick the ball out of the pitch to gain valuable yards in the opposition's half or kick the ball if in range of poles ( H) for 3 points. Any player can kick the ball at any time but it's uncommon to see a number 1-8 doing it. You can only pass the ball backwards but can kick the ball forward so your player can catch it but he (the player who catches it) must be behind the kicker when it was kicked. Some really nice tries have been scored like this but it can be risky.

Brothers please react to Argentina's rugby team (We call them Pumas)! We're not as good as the South African team or the All Blacks but we've been knocking on the door for years, especially considering we're a football nation.
Nick you do it for Messi fam.
The Argies are one of our southern hemisphere's best teams 💚💛🇿🇦
Arg my 2nd team, love their grit & passion for the game, hoping you guys take bronze this year, I think it is possible
The Pumas play phenomenal most of the time. Came a long way and beat us and the All Blacks and Australia numerous times now. Always dread playing against you guys 😂
From a Bok fan, I like your game, Pumas. It's always exciting to watch. You remind me of the way we play at the Stormers. Fast, exciting rugby. Very unpredictable, and full of gees(spirit).
Quick update. Argentina is playing the all black in quarter final. Springboks playing England. That's says a lot. All 1st class teams. If you guys want a heart attack game. Watch the last Sunday game. France vs SA. Not the highlights. Watch the full game. You will thank me later.
Mapimpi just broke the hearts of woman nation wide. He welcomed a beautiful baby into this world with his beautiful wife. We love Mapimpi
If you score a try (touch the ball down) in the corner, your kicker will have to kick from the corner. If you score under the posts your kicker will kick from right infront the posts. Most rugby players will run closer to the posts for a easier kick if they can
Yeah we instantly knew what Mookie was talking about "you didn't " we got you Mookie😅😅😅

Really enjoying your content. Subscription earned. Here's some explanations.
Q: Do offence play defence too?
A: No such thing in rugby, if you have the ball, full on offensive, whole team, if you don't, full on defensive. Generally the forwards are more defensive due to their size, but they score just as many tries. Similarly, the backs are more offence due to their speed, but they make just as many tackles.
Q: Is a Hatrick 3 tries in one game?
A: Yes.
Q: Is that blood bro?
A: Yes. There's always blood vs South Africa.
Q: (Referring to the players all huddled up and pushing one another) We gotta learn what that is.
A: That's a scrum, it restarts play after a minor infringement by one of the teams. The 8 forwards all get into that formation, the scrum-half (#9) of the team who won the scrum pops the ball into the 'mouth' of the scrum and then the 2 teams 'push' one another to gain ground. It's an awesome display of strentgh considering it's nearly a ton of rugby player on each side pushing against the other. If either team's scrum breaks apart, they get penalised. The 'hooker' (#2) will 'hook' the ball into the scrum for it to come out the back where either the 8th man (#8) will pick up and go or the scrum half will collect and pass to the back line.
When you mentioned that different people can wear the same jersey, typically, players have a number, a number corresponds to a position. In this game vs New Zealand, they moved Moodie to Outside Center (13) and put Arendse on Right Wing (14). Moodie is comfortable in both positions. This is actually beautiful about the depth of South African players, quite a few of them can play different positions. Go look up Frans Steyn, to this day he holds the world record for furthest drop kick in an official game and played all positions in the backline, 10-15.
The World Cup kicks off next week, will be well worth the watch, even if just the Springbok games. They're up there with New Zealand, Ireland and France to win it.
Just an FYI... Kolbe's cousin is Wayde van Niekerk, the world record holder for the 400m sprint. That family is truely gifted and a dear part of all South African hearts.
Rugby is a cold game. I cannot imagine the level of fitness that it takes to run back and forth like this on both sides. At least in American football they just play one side.
And maintain that fitness for 80 mins
thats why Rigby players are legit super athletes.
it involves a ton of technique as well.
im a very small dude and i barely missed a tackle tackling people twice my size and bringing them down. my parter at the time was almost if not, twice my size but literally missed 90% of tackles. no matter what tips i gave him he didn't implement them.
Gents please watch a short clip on UA-cam with the Springbok Coach Rassie Erasmus talking about the Boks Jerseys for the World Cup in 2019 and Makazole Mapimpi
Wow!
Thank you for having so much love for our Bokke. That gives me so pride for our boys.
3 tries in same game is a hatrick.
Want to touch down closer to the poles because the closer you are the closer the conversion kick which adds 2 points to the 5 point try.
They play both offensive and defensive
The number on the jersey is a certain position. They are numbered 1 to 15.
The player on the bench 16 to 23
They change numbers according to coaches game plan and where they are needed for certain opposition.
They also change numbers because sometimes they come of the bench.
Love that you love the springboks. They are on 🔥 right? You have to support them
Love the content gents 🎉keep them coming.
Thanks for showing the best team in the world, go Bokke they are ama zing!!!!🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
And welcome to the springbok family 💪👏🐐
Guys did you'll know that in the game of Rugby it's a foul when u pass the ball forward with your hands, you can only kick the ball forward but with the hands, the pass has got to be in line or backwards.... Whilst running forward 😅
All players attack and defend. However each position has a specific role. Hat trick is 3 try's
Man, south africa got a lot of talent at the back.
In rugby you can also score drop-goals by drop kicking the ball through the posts. Dropping the ball to bounce off the ground before kicking it through the posts mid play for 3 points. So if a kicker has enough free space to attempt it they can. It is very risky for the kicker because they are open to be tackled hard while trying to line it up.
Also when scoring a try you will notice that the players try to land the ball as close to the posts as possible so that the "conversion" kick for an additional 2 points is closer to straight on for the kicker. Where the try is scored determines where the conversion kick takes place, if it's right at the sideline they need to kick from there but can choose how far back they take it from.
Appreciate the comment family
I admire your willingness to view a non American sport. USA is seen globally as such an insular country that your attitude and openness is refreshing.
Moodie is the 4th pick wing position for South Africa, 1, 2 & 3 are Kolbe, Arendse and Mapimi. Moodie is now being played as number 13 which I feel is a great position for him but he can also play wing if needed. oh yea, Moodie is the youngest player for Springboks in this team.
In South Africa Rugby starts at a High Level from the Minute you get into High School, the competition is really tough! To play for the Springboks is however the Greatest achievement, as it is any athletes Honor to represent their Country!

Please do a reaction on the Springboks vs All Blacks 2023 pre World Cup game on Twickenham. The best sport in the world with 2 of the best teams going at it on neutral ground.
Everyone attacks and defends. the backline (9-15) are seen as the attackers as they're the quicker players and the forwards (1-8) are the bigger guys, but when you're in game you all attack or defend. When a player is tackled, the forwards are usually the ones that get into the ruck or stand closer to it in the defensive line to take on the next attack.
Bro Mookie you are officially a fan bro, welcome to the team
Young Canan Moodie showing no respect for his elders the way he is playing them ATM. No respect whatsoever. Love it!
Every player stays on the field for both defence and offence, until they are sub-ed
And yes a Hat-trick is 3 try's
15 players on the field, 23 overall. A player can play the full 80 mins if he is fit enough
Wake up Mookie we love in SA🇿🇦🇿🇦💯 come visit sometime you’ll definitely stay at our home we got enough room the two Dunson brothers 9 bedrooms with a pull me and my family we appreciate you guys for showing so love for SA.❤❤
You're welcome man, the world cup starts in 8 days on the 8 of September in France. So yes tune in to see how The Springboks do man.
Welcome to the Springboks! South Africa's pride...
You two are great. Africa is waiting for you
Everyone eveyone of them can tackle but the frontpack the big guys is actually the defense, they stop anyone trying to go our try line...wings and centre and scrumhalf is the backline, they get the ball and run for the tries,so no not everyone plays the same position.....everyone from 1 to 15 has a different role...and they get substituted with the guys on the bench to play the position that was vacated but unlike all the other teams almost all the Springboks can play and is versatile on a lot of positions...not all teams can do that but lets not forget the Springboks has a genius for a coach ,check him out ,he an icon, world famous and everyone hates him,yes and everyone hates the Springboks...coach Rassie Erasmus

World cup is starting in 8 days ;) Springboks plays their first pool game on the 10th September vs Scotland. You should watch the games!
9:00 - Yes, you have to score three tries (touchdowns) for it to be considered a hattrick. And you're also right about the fieldgoal (poles). The closer you put the ball down to the poles the better because you have to kick the conversion in line with where you put the ball down.
Hey lads love the energy. Same players stay on the field unless substituted. You have to place the ball on the try-line to score (or after) and you can only pass backwards.
3 TRIES IN 1 GAME = HAT TRICK
Jersey numbers are linked to positions. Players can get switched to different positions in between games.
That's Kurt-lee / Kolbe wears the same jersey sometimes.
You field 15 players for a game. They play offense and defense, grinding the whole game.
Each team has 7 subs that can come on at any time
Mooki, some guys are talented enough to play in multiple positions. That is why their numbers might change between games.
In South Africa rugby 🏉 is our favourite sport as a nation....as a rainbows nation all 60 million of us love rugby and the Springboks are legends....they make the continent of Africa proud becos we the only tean in the world that won 4 World Cup out of 8 and the world hates us becos the best team comes from Africa....all these so called 1st world cannot stand it and we the the only team in the world that has a 💯 percent South African players,no foreigners plays for the Boks but then again our pool is very big for good players becos we play rugby from elementary school so the talent is endless,we produce good players non stop snd and its every little boys dream to wear the green and gold jersey, its like one of tge highest honors and also why we are champions and a nightmare ti other teams, The All Blacks are our main rivals for about a 100 years already...and yes almost every South African female understand the game very well...and our saying " OUR BLOOD IS GREEN"
Appreciate the comment family
That is called a "scrum". The Springboks are renowned for winning the scrums
You'll notice that sometimes different players wear the same number shirt but that comes down to team selection for that game of the day or injury forced
The crazy thing about what you just saw is these guys are so so talented and good but we have more of them competing to take their spots but it's tough, we love our Bokke team
Much love y''all from South Africa
One of the things with numbers, is that in rugby, they refer specifically to a position on the field. They aren't player specific. This is kinda a thing in American Football, so O-Linemen wear numbers between 60 and 70. D-Linemen wear 90s. QBs wear under 20. So imagine American Football where all QBs have to wear a number 1 jersey and your Wide Receiver 1 has to wear the number 2 jersey etc. So number 11 and 14 in rugby refer specifically to a player who play the Wing position. PS: You're also right, players play offense and defense (In this way its more like Basketball rather than American Football where players switch between Offensive and Defensive positions on the fly depending on who has the ball)
I see you guys are doing a deep dive into the wings after confusing our wings
Any player can tackle the opponent who has the ball. The wings are usually the offense since they the fast guys but are also used as defense when the other team brake through your forwards(who's considered the "defense" Or wall) lots of times the ball being kicked over the forwards "defens line" so it's up the the backs no 11,14,15 to defend, also gives them an opportunity to counter attack of the get possession of the ball
The numbers indicate their position, which may be potentionally switched right up to the starting whistle, hence not having their names printed on them.
2 tries = brace and 3 tries = hat trick. Springbok with most tries in a world cup is Bryan Habana. He also raced a cheetah once. You guys need to do a reaction about Brian. Fast, strong and a crowd favourite. Most Americans love the springboks and there are South Africans playing in Major League Rugby (MLR). You guys should go to a game. The USA could be a rugby power house if the sport becomes popular. Your Basket Ball players have the right skills and are tall enough for the line out. . NFL players have the other skills needed. Enjoy the RWC 2023 and the Eagles will qualify for the next RWC Australia 2027 with minor improvements. The Eagles need to spread their wings. I think you can have all the requirents for Tier one status in place faster than other Tier 2 nations. Love your channel! Thank you guys.
Unlike a lot of other sports, in rugby the number on the back of the shirt belongs to the position and not the player.
Mookie he’s saying it right Mapimpi love you mookie😂😂😂
As a half Xhosa person. I can confirm that Mapimpi always wants the smoke 😂
You can't have your name on a rugby jersey because you're not the only one who'll play that position wearing that number. Competition is tight in that sport, so those guys you see playing earned their spot on the national team.
And oh.... Great reaction as usually.... 👍
Moodie stepped Richie Mo'unga, Cheslin couldnt step Richie Mo'unga. Respect Moodie
Wake up MOOKIE!!! 🤩
Yes, Offence play defence too. They have subs which can come in to replace injuries or tired players but not all are used. 8 subs on each team.
2:32 Love to see this from America, we appreciate it 😂
Number 11 is Kurt Lee Arendse, and number 14 is
Cheslin Kolbe.
Those two are always the tiniest people on the pitch and yet they bulldoze guys 3 times their size, especially Cheslin Kolbe ( 14 ).
Thank you guys for supporting our national pride. These are Nelson Mandela’s boys, belonging to the Rainbow Nation.
Wake up Mookie
You about to see brilliance ❤
Springboks from South Africa..our .national rugby team putting their bodies on the line in Every game..'go bokke'...a show of Exellence ...always
You bok supporters brag so much,it were only a warm-up game, the all Blacks have nothing to proof, come world cup then we talk,I wait when the boks lose then you blame the ref, bleddie fools.
There are 8 replacements on the bench that can be used as injury replacement or strategic replacement at any time in the game... The attack and defencive are the same players.
You have substitutes to use, but essentially the same team play the entire game - no split between offense and defense. The game is dynamic and changes between attack/defence often over the course of 80 mins
