When people are looking for muscle tension dysphonia treatment, they often do muscle tension dysphonia exercises without paying attention to the most important concept in dealing with muscle tension dysphonia symptoms. There are many different approaches that you can use in therapy for muscle tension dysphonia. But because we know the main muscle tension dysphonia causes - increased muscle activity, it is only logical to pay attention to it when doing MTD voice therapy. Paying attention to vocal effort or muscle effort when dealing with hyperfunctional voice disorder (e.g. during MTD treatment) is absolutely crucial for success of eliminating MTD voice disorders. If you are not addressing vocal tension, then you are not doing MTD voice therapy.

Thank you for watching! Are you paying attention to vocal effort when dealing with voice tension?

Of course! But after a vocal damage (I had a bad time: I barely spoke with people for a month). Now, I am a little paranoid about vocal health :D

I have just come to realise my fear is holding my voice back. I suffered larageal trauma and could not sing a note for 4years, and lost my talking voice very easy, or it became raspy. Stated getting some singing notes about 2 years ago, and it's an on again, off again type of thing.
I have always had a bit of fear of being heard but this increased dramatically. I am worried about it losing its pitch, not coming out at all, being a totally different note than what I want, sounded Ng shakey. And I realised this fear is actually cutting my voice off even before I begin. Humming is the same. If I talk a lot, I become raspy. Doctor has said there is nothing wrong with my vocal chords.

I have been following your videos for years (I thought I was subscribed, but I wasn't?! Just fixed that!), but wanted to tell you how much I have appreciated your videos. I'm a classical singer, and your knowledge has been invaluable to me. Thank you for sharing what you know and for helping people! :)

Hi miss. :) I've been trying to learn some abrasive vocals by myself, and there aren't many resources about the singers I'm most interested in.
The bases are Craig Wedren from Shudder to Think (cuts from "Pony Express Record" and "Goat")
Greg Puciato from The Dillinger Escape Plan ("Miss Machine", "One Of Us Is The Killer"). He would be a great person to listen to from someone who I think employs mixed singing techniques.
Rich Lombardi from The Sawtooth Grin (An inspiration often cited by him is James Brown)
Jesse Korman and Justin Pedrick from The Number Twelve Looks Like You
And Micheal Dafferner of Car Bomb.
If you could take the time to examine one of these peoples' vocal techniques and explain how they would be done safely, that would be amazing.

Yes and when I sing I sound like Tom Waits.

Is it only when you sing or do you sound like that when you speak?

I am your subscriber and regular viewer of your all videos. Very useful information. Whenever I try to speak my throat muscles are tight. Because of this I am unable to speak. Only whispering voice has come. Please let me know how to come air flow freely through my throat and how to reduce neck muscles tightness. Katarina madam please advise exercises and massages.

I know that you have been following me for a long time. So thank you for being a loyal subscriber. My whole channel is made for people with functional dysphonia, people who experience tension and strain when using their voice. My channel has many exercises. It is not important to have more and more exercises. It is enough to have one or two that are working. Based on your question, I suspect that none of the previous exercises are working, and therefore you may be dealing with something different than functional dysphonia (otherwise some of the exercises that I already published would give you some tension release). I advise that you see a laryngologist for a voice assessment (if you haven't done that yet) and then based on their recommendations, work with a voice therapist. It is almost impossible for me to suggest specific exercises for you as I don't know you. I am sorry I could not give you more specific tips.

Can you speak while holding a finger strongly on your Adam's apple?

Why would you want to do that in the first place? Not knowing the reason for this question, I would say no to your question.
