Pro tip!! If you dont have a drill you could do a controlled burn around the nail and remove the ash and then slowly and carefully extract the nail with tweezers so as not to damage the finish!
Since its a nail, not a screw, you could have turned it upside down, off the edge of a table so the nail isn't flat on the table, and whacked it with a hammer a couple of times. The nail would come out a bit, not be damaged by a whole saw, and you could have used your side cutter then to fully remove it.
How about using the claw prybar properly. Put claw in front of nail head… hit with hammer till it goes under nail hard and pry it out. Takes 5 seconds and less damage.
