  • Long before Mario was out on a hybrid "Odyssey", Nintendo released a little platformer called "Super Mario Land" for their new handheld system - the Game Boy. Their goal was to bring the home console Mario experience out into the world, to be played anywhere. Find Mario Land on eBay - ebay.us/2ZtJGb

Was Nintendo successful in this endeavor? How well does the first ever portable Mario hold up now? Is Daisy the superior Mario Princess (of course)? Dig into this review and we'll explore what "Mario Land" gets right, and anywhere that Nintendo could up their "game" (pun intended).

Great review! I agree that the controls are finicky, but once you get the hang of them it's still a blast to play.

Totally forgot about those Easter Island heads. Solid advice using the GBA as a controller. I honestly didn't even know you could do that with the game boy player, and I freaking own a game boy player, so thank you for that

Another well done video. I agree that it is clunky, but it at least tried something different for its time.

At least you were allowed to play games on snow days. I’m really, and I mean REALLY into retro video games and my parents know this because they don’t let me play on weekdays (I understand that part because I’m in high school and have a lot of studying and homework to do and I also have chores) but if it snows and school is cancelled, my dad is still like “Nope, not on weekdays!” Or sometimes he’ll make me wait until 5pm like he does with phones and TV on weekdays (I have little sisters so we all have to follow that rule with the phones and TV)
