Best advice i have for pilots is that like drivers, you always have the right of way. When a squad lead marks on the map where he want his squad to be dropped off. Take his LZ as advice instead of an order. If the marked LZ is hot don't be afraid to fly away to look for a different LZ. Should it be further away from the originally marked LZ then the passengers are just going to have to get out and beat their feat to where they wanted to go. I had seen too many choppers get shot down just because a hot headed SL demanded to get immediately closer to the fight and the pilot didn't use his better judgement.
The best tip I can give to any new players is too practice your landing, EVERYTHING will come with experience but landing is something you have to practice, I promise you if you suck at call outs, bad at evasions, and have poor map knowledge, but you can put a squad anywhere on the map you’ll be better than the average pilot
Another advice from me: practice the J-hook _only_ and push its limits. The J-hook is compatible with any situation, from a helipad to a roof in Loshkar, so there's no need to waste your time on any other technique. Pushing the limits (using smaller LZs and bleeding the speed faster, at more aggressive angles) is the only way to get better at it.
@@dantealighieri5547 I find a lot of people liking the j-hook (me included) but I do think there’s more to flying than just it, and I’ve found ways to land faster, ways to land softer, etc. I think it’s good for beginners all the way through masters but it isn’t something that should be the only thing you have in your arsenal, 1 because of the reasons I stated earlier, and 2 becuase tanks, HATS/LATS and anti-air all expect a j-hook, and it can be easy to learn its patterns and when to fire at the heli. being able to mix up your landing is very important to tricking any attackers.
I cannot thank you enough. Kept trying my J-Hook to no avail, then landed my first one, and have gotten it down since. It may be sloppy, but hey practice makes perfect ;)
I recommend keybinding load/unload supplies so you can unload in a hover more easily if you have to. I set my unloading build to 1 and unload ammo to 2 above my Q key. Made my time flying in squad way easier. Also, since the flight mechanics are a bit weird in Squad, you have more control when you use more collective, so highly aggressive 180 degree J turns might have to involve going between 0% and slamming 100% collective during the turn. The big trick is to not change your altitude throughout the turn itself.
Bro this only has 35k views?! this is top tier content man, don't worry about releasing anything BUT what you love, the passion comes through very well in your work, stay true to what YOU want and you'll never have any problems with success. Good luck man!

Great tutorial. Months ago J-hook landig was more pronounced making it very fast and fun, and when ending the manouver, helicopter stood still. Nowadays it's super sensible plus the slidingshoot mechanic make it harder and boring. Landing nows are very slow making us very fragile. Anyways, we have to keep practicing and finding new ways of piloting with the help of resources like this. Thank you.
I do think something was changed relatively recently, but I think the J-hook is a better option now, and straight approaches have become harder than they were. Once you get used to it again, J-hooks will be fast and accurate 👍
I can't play squad yet due to the fact that well my PC can't handle it. But when I get a beefier one these are going to be the videos I come back to learn more from! Also really well done that's another sub!
Such a good video, that in the end contredict itself. Never fly so hight and scout with the Helicopter. Its not for scouting its a flying Logy so transport and logistics only. I never fly high because I know how easy is it to schoot down or criple a heli so it crashes. BTR or eny other IFV will with hight explosives be able to fuck you up easy. You dont need to hit the components to many times and the explosive radius is big. Not maby people know that so they use AP.
Nice informative Video. I'm sure that a shorter Version of this can fit as a Advanced in-game Tutorial. I mostly play as Infantry, but it open up my Eyes to work and coordinate better with Pilots. Thank you
Such good content man. I know most J-Hook examples recommend coming around 180deg so going to practice this as well. Loved the section on Heli Theory. haven't seen that much detail in any others. Keep it up!
Helps to have 2 crew chiefs giving you situational awareness of your rotor distances to objects... i was a crew chief so these things help the pilot since we are the eyes in the back of the pilots head..

Funny, just watched the 1st video and I was wondering how long it would be for more advanced tips. Old school BF pilot here and it's looking like Squad is the new place for us. There is debate about if hellis are too hard to fly or not but I think a learning curve is good to keep good pilots in demand. Thank you for the tips. Been practicing and getting better but these tips are great. Will definitely be loading single-player and working on my J-turn. My issue right now is landing accurately in my rush to get low fast I sometimes lose track of where I want to land and start to veer near trees. Every infantry in this game seems to carry LATs and HATs you now how it is. Hope to see more videos from you soon.
When on your final landing approach, the I really like the 'j-hook' because it helps you keep eyes on your landing zone. When it comes to your initial approach(500m-150m), if I have the time, i check out the map to try and give me a picture of what the area will look like and look for easy-to-spot reference points like buildings, roads, and treelines. Having infantry pop smoke can definitely help, but it can also tell an enemy vehicle or HAT/LAT to get their weapons ready ;) Thanks for the kind words! I agree, this game is the best replacement for BF right now, and that a bit of a learning curve is good to have. Keep up the practice!
@@WarfighterGroupMilSim I forgot to ask and I think it would help other pilots with what works for you. What is your in-game mouse sensitivity, Mouse DPI and in-game FOV?

Not that it would the best idea, but is it possible to put the heli in hover with a lil forward motion and switch to gunnerseat if you spot an enemy squad? Or would the heli respond differently and move off course?
Just looked into this for you. Once the pilot leaves the pilot seat, the collective gets dropped to zero percent so you can't stay out of the seat for long. Due to this, hovering wouldn't be the best option, it would be better to have 100 percent collective and be nose level, then switch to gunner, and back again quickly.
