That 3.8 RS is one of my favs, ever since I saw it on a Best Motoring comparo. I had the good fortune of doing a University level Engineering co-op work term in Weissach, from early Jan. until the end of April ‘91, when that ruby red was all the craze there. I used to thumb for a ride into work from a neighbouring town (Mönsheim) every morning, and was sometimes fortunate enough to get a ride in the then current 964 in that colour (never an RS unfortunately 🥲)… The main parking lot inside the Weissach compound seemed to be filled with them at the time though 👌!
Terry, that's an awesome story from your time at Porsche, great to hear! Perhaps if you'd have gotten a lift in an RS, you've have made it to work faster!
The Carrera RS and the RS America served as the build inspiration for my 996. Don’t get me wrong, I love the GT cars, but they somehow don’t have the same character of the Carrera RS. Ironically, regardless of whether I called it an Outlaw or a 996 Carrera RS, the pedantic legalistic nature of Porsche owners always have some passive criticism… So, I don’t know… maybe one day Lee can come to the states and make a ruling on what I’ve built lol!
My favourite original 964, would be interesting to compare it to the DP Motorsport 964 project yellow my favourite modded 964 .more raw than my old 964 anniversary now owned by Frank Cassidy of Boxengasse.. i so need a wide body 964 in my life again..... great video Lee!
Lee, thanks for another great vid! How does a 300bhp 996 compare? I get that the air cooled are special, but would a 996 give this a hard time. We are both fans of the 996 and I actually think that the 3.8 quirks carried into the 993 then the 996, a lot of haters will never like the water cooled but its a 911 redesign engineering out the air cooled fails. anyway I'll get my crash helmet on for the comments!!
Beautiful cars, and a mighty great article in T911, but the rarest and most über-964 isn’t one of these two RS’s. The C4 Leichtbau surely is the king of the 964 line up.

Good video. Thanks for taking the time to film & publish it.
One of the best Porsche Chanel out there
Great video Lee. Lovely cars.
Nice one Lee. That 3.8 sounds like a real gem.

I'll be returning to the States as soon as feasibly possible, watch this space for spring '22.
Pictures needed ASAP!!
@@1949bug maybe I’ll make some UA-cam videos one day
Mate you are nailing it. Brilliant content + unique. Loving the detail.
Great video as always! Had never heard of the 964 3.8 before! 👍🏻
Fantastic review, really enjoyed that

Thank god it’s got her steering on the correct side 😎
There was a great comparison test I think in Car magazine of 3.8 RS Vs Lotus Esprit.
Great job! Now, as the next step in the story, how about a comparo between the 3.8 RS and the RSR?
That's a great idea! I think we'll need to call Johan for that one!

I love the 3.6 in my 996 and am always interested to hear how they they compare to their predecessors.
Kako su moćni!

Agreed on the 964 C4 LW being the rarest 964. What an era for special 911s!
What colour yellow is the 3.8? Not speed yellow of Ferrari yellow. Is it schwefelgelb …….sulphur yellow???
Why is there next to no content on this car on UA-cam. Maybe all the 3.8 are is storage never to be driven. Hope not
Great article in magazine and great vid bro
Cheers, mag article not mine but the video was great fun to put together.
