    Great review! I had to replace a broken baratza sette quickly, so tried the DF64 (Niche had a long delivery time and high price here in Australia). Very happy with this grinder so far. The low retention, small footprint and great tasting coffee make it a winner for me.

      Thank you! For a long period of time I was against DF64 but then I tried it and I am really happy with it. Yes, it could be better but for the price it is difficult to beat.

      Have both trying out 270wi and df64.. thought df was better but now the sette is winning and auto weigh is great too. Today was the first timne after 4+ kg of coffee with barista pro that the shot was tasty vs disgusting and it was from 270wi

    Very honest comparison , If you have to choose only one, what you take ? I think DF64.
    I have Df64 for months, before i had conical grinder more 10 years I thought that I need Niche zero and I like body and chocolaty espresso, ,but for price and taxes I changed my mind , I bought df64 and I discovered df64 with Medium Roast fruity coffee and good acidity,OMG I can't change this grinder , although I have never tried the Niche, I am no longer interested.

      Thank you. Based on the results you have seen, I probably would go for Oro. I reserve the right to change my mind though , as I haven’t tried DF64 with ssp burrs yet.

    Another great review. thanks for comparing their crema also. I've always wondered how their crema differ for the same bean, and then you have the answer. :-)
    I have been using DF64 for about 2-3 weeks now and still experimenting it. One thing to note is that after installing the SSP burr, it messes up the indicator. So, espresso grind size became somewhere around 40, and pour over will hang around 80 and beyond. And you can't go lower than 25. The merchant explain that's because SSP burr is thicker and so it changes the grinder's indicator position. Looks like I have to live with it unless I reposition/replace the indicator ring.
    Probably another senseless suggestion (or useful video idea ?!) from me: What if you get 6 grams from each grinder into the 18g puck? Do you get the best of each: body + chocalate + fruity + wine ... ?

      Thank you. DF64 definitely has potential. You can buy new sticker or even the entire top to replace the old one. I want to record DF64 vs Kinu today. After that, I will put SSP burrs in.
      Your idea is interesting. Would you suggest layers one on another or to mix everything?

      @@mycoffeeshow111 Thanks, getting a new top for SSP burrs sounds good, and keep the existing for standard burr.
      Unsure about the puck prep for mixed ground, maybe try both before selling your Oro? You may get the best of each from layered puck, and the worst of each from mixed puck? :D

    Nice video Jack and happy late birthday. I went with a Niche (really more on the workflow and simplicity of it) but I got to say, the Niche shot you pulled looked like the most inconsistent in terms of extraction just based off the flow I saw from the basket. I could be totally wrong, but nice video and have you even dug into that Decent yet to see what it can really do? Keep up the great content.

      Thank you! You are right about that but even when you take your time to prepare the puck, sometimes something can go wrong. Plus It was the longest shot.
      TBH I really enjoyed all 3 shots.
      So far Decent is awesome. I tried many different profiles but I don’t want to rush anything. As I said b4, I don’t know much about coffee, and for some profiles you really need to know what you are doing.

    Once you set the Eureka for a particular bean you are off and running. It is so consistent and a real pleasure to use. It is heavy and impossible to accidentally knock over which is a big plus for accident prone me. Retention is very low which is another plus. Can’t think of anything I don’t like about it really. 😊

      I have to agree that Eureka is a solid choice. Not perfect but then again, there are no perfect grinders, especially in this price range.

    Happy birthday. I had the eureka oro and I was very disappointed with the clarity. I've made a refund and I got the df64. To be honest both have a lot of issues out of the box. The thing is that you can fix most of them with some 3d printed parts and a declumper for df64 but with the oro you are stuck.
    Df64 offers a good platform and has a lot of potential but you will have to work on it to get some good espresso. The only thing I liked about the oro were the looks, that is a really beautiful grinder.

    I loved your video. I have the Niche and the DF64 with High uniformity espresso burrs. My preference is the Niche over the DF64 because I prefer the full body I get from the Niche. I agree with you that the DF64 has more clarity than the Niche. However, I tend to prefer the full body old stile espresso. There are some coffee that I prefer to use the DF64 because of its fruity characters.
    I agree with you completely that the DF64 and the Niche complement each other .
    I also prefer the simplicity of Niche work flow over the DF64. I have modified my DF64 with all the mods available to make it a much better grinder than the way it comes out of the box. The DF64 needs the mods. The Niche requires no mod out of the box !
    I might eventually upgrade my DF64 but I have not decided what I will upgrade to . I am in no hurry!

    Interesting video :D very nice comparison of three lovely grinders. My budget is not very high unfortunately but since you liked the Oro a lot I want to try the Mignon Filtro with Espresso Burrs, tilt incline base and single dose hopper bellow :P or do you recommend the SPTK38 ?

      Thank you. Well, for the price (around £250 in UK) you can’t beat SPTK 38. It is very good for espresso, a bit less for pour overs. I have few videos with it if you care to watch.

    Very interesting comparison show, Jack. If you run another electric grinder comparison I hope you could include Barattza's 270 grinder. I use a 270WI and love the output quality, both espresso and poreover/infusion. I also have and appreciate the DF64 quality performance. There are so many apparently excellent grinders coming to market it makes a tough job for a public enthusiast like yourself. I sincerely appreciate your enthusiasm. Your pallete is much appreciated.       Thank you very much. I wish I could buy and test them all but my budget won’t allow me. Many people say Barattza is great but the build quality is not always the best. Have you encountered any issues with yours?
      There is aa end game grinder coming to the show by the end of the year (long waiting list). Next video will be an unboxing of my new espresso machine.

      Anyone reading this, do not buy a Sette 270. I've had mine for 4 years and the gearbox has failed twice. I'm done with that loud bugger. I'm on the market for either a DF64 or a Specialita.

    The Eureka is so complicated with the ever spinning turn knob. I like having an authentic Italian grinder. Have you used the Ceado and modded for single dose?

    Great video as always. So I found 2 grinders that I'm trying to decide between. The Malwani Livi (tabletop hand crank) and Versalab Titus M4 (electric). Maybe two that you'll want to look at. Neither are cheap but they look awesome. I'm also trying to decide between the Ponte Vecchio Lusso and the Profitec Pro 800 original or 2.0 version.

      Definitely let me know when you get any of those machines. Ponte V L is relatively cheap as I see online. There is something I don’t like about Profitec line but can’t pinpoint what it is. Versalab is great, in fact that was my second choice for end game grinder but I preordered something else. Will be here by the end of the year (long waiting list). The other grinder you mentioned I never heard about- will definitely check it.

      @@mycoffeeshow111 No problem. I just ordered the Ponte Vecchio last night but now you have me worried that I made the wrong choice lol. The fit and finish of their machines do seem a bit less refined but for me that seems to be the only drawback. Well besides the fact that the portafilter is 45mm lol.

      Those are standard steel Itamill burrs. Btw I don’t think there would be any taste difference between them and titanium coated burrs

      @@monika.tours.coffee you can definitely swap the burrs. I don’t think you will notice any difference between standard and titanium coated but there is definitely a difference between standard and ssp. I had SSP MP (ua-cam.com/video/shFbMHMLirQ/v-deo.html) and now I also have SSP Cast burrs. Remember to align the burrs and season them if you want to get the best out of them.

    4:00 How much retention do you get out on the Niche with the bellows vs how much you get out on the Oro (if the bellows actually works, (mine rarely did because it was too clogged up) :o
    Like the Lagom P64, I think the bellows isn't really necessary on the Niche, where it definitely is on the DF64 or Oro SD if you want low retention, I think I prefer grinders WITHOUT a bellows because they seem more consistent that way if designed well (like Lagom p64 and Niche, also my Baratza Vario had low retention and didn't need a Bellows!).
    13:50 Same here, Been having a lot of fruity coffee lately but sometimes it's nice to also have a more traditional / chocolatey one, especially with milk.
    18:00 Even those stock burrs in the DF64, I noticed as well very high clarity, low body. SSP burrs just go another step further in that direction.
    It's interesting how different you can render the same coffee with different burrs/grinders. It does seem like the one you like best, will depend a lot on what you're wanting out of your coffee, as well as the type of coffee. For a darker roast you're probably going to like it on the Niche best, Oro 2nd best maybe. Ah cool that's basically what you said too lol
    I had like 3 or 4 niche Zero's and re-sold them all just because the Demand was high and resale value was higher than what I paid ;)

      On the Niche without the bellow I got 0.4 retention, an 0.0 after using bellow. With Oro I automatically used the bellow without checking the weight b4 so can’t answer the question. Since then, I sold my Oro so can’t check any more but I remember it was helping to get some extra coffee out of the grinder
      The test was done with standard burrs on DF64 but now I use it with ssp mp.
      Obviously all the flavour tests are very subjective and on the different day I could judge it differently. What I always appreciate are interesting notes. I want my coffee to tell me a story. As any good story, there has to be some beginning, then main part and intriguing end.

      ​@@mycoffeeshow111 On my Niche I remember getting maybe a max 0.3g retention out which I'd say is negligible, on the Oro SD I think it was about 0.8 or 1g retention I was getting out with the bellows, which isn't too bad either really. On my Specialita with the bellows I'd get from 1-2g out but I divised a way of testing and without using the bellows, I think it was only 0.8g ish that was being exchanged, without using the bellows I'd have more consistent input and output (even if 0.8g was older) it wouldn't seem to affect my shots negatively.
      When I had the Oro SD grinder, the chute was too clogged for the bellows to work, so I was thinking it would be like the Specialita and work consistently without a bellows (with even less exchange going on most likely) but for me that wasn't the case... It was inconsistent for me either way, and I think when you put in 18g and get out 17g one time and 18.5g next time that's worse than consistently getting even 0.8g of exchanged retention coffee from the last time but putting in 18g and getting out 18.1 or 17.9, which is very close to your target.

      I don't have a Niche but conical burrs are way easier to create a much cleaner path for the grinds and a small bellows would most likely clean anything left as the air would go right through the burr where any left over grinds would be. The flat burr has all that extra space in the middle of the burr, all the extra space around the outside of the burr in the wiper area and in the chute. The only way to make a lower retention flat burr grinder, in my opinion would be vertical burrs with a constant positive air flow, should get you very close. I have been looking for a cheap vertical flat burr grinder that will take the SSP burrs but the only one I found is expensive in my country?

      @@harrydog6795 with single dosing I don't think you have to worry about the space between the burrs holding retention, it would come out pretty quick and easy. There's not much in there everytime you see someone open a flat burr grinder. it's usually the chute or declumper where retention is found.

      @@harrydog6795 you might be right. Although when I opened my Niche there was still some coffee inside.
      Lot’s of single dose flat grinders are incline to reduce retention. You can even buy stand fro DF64 that increases the angle.
      As for vertical burrs Ek43 comes to mind but they do have a lot of retention.
      Anyway even if my single dose grinders are no 0 retention, that 0.5 g every now and then I can accept.

    Haha, that edit when you mentioned losing your spoon cracked me up. Just got my niche- this workflow might be enough for me to make up for that lack of clarity. The better body is also really great, and I do miss the clarity from the flats, but ultimately this workflow is just so far superior I can't imagine why no one else but Option O has been able to replicate it. However I would sell it hands down for a P64. You could sell all the grinder on that bench and afford the P64! Also, do you have an Instagram for your channel yet?

      I am thinking about big flat burrs grinder, possibly something bigger than P64. I have already ordered something awesome but it will arrive at the end of the year. I do have instagram with the same name but so far I haven’t published anything yet.
