Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at another Daniel Balavoine reaction in Starmania together with Nanette Workman "Quand on Arrive en Ville." What stuns me in this song is not only the amazingness for Daniel but how Nanette comes out of nowhere and takes this song to another level. She's incredible! See my react now!

Starmania is such a crazy good musical. Having a genius instrumentalist like Michel Berger behind the wheel made something that has really no rival. Every song is memorable.
And Plamondon didn't do too bad writing, basically, a cyberpunk story before cyberpunk was much of a thing.
We can absolutly be related to starmania with all crazy things now...
Yeah dont forget it was a duo with Plamondon!
C est une comédie musicale
BEST. MUSICAL. EVER!
As for the meaning of the song, it is one of the first songs of the Rock Opera, where the "Black Stars", a street gang, terrorizes the fictional city of Monopolis. In this song, the leaders of this gang, Johnny Rockfort (played by Daniel Balavoine) and Sadia (played by Nanette Workman), explain why they are who they are and do what they do. This is a reference to the problem of poor suburbs in cities, where young people who are lost end up living in the streets and doing crime. Those are the "zonards" from this song.
To better understand the meaning of this song, you can check the song "Banlieue Nord", also from Starmania and Daniel Balavoine, in which John Rockfort further explains how he ended with the "Black Stars".
@@itaiperez Merci pour les détails 😉
We have to push Dereck to watch 'Monopolis' with Martine St-Clair and Norman Groulx. It was a great version!
Nanette is also the kindest person on earth. She must have a solo song on that record where she sings the highest note you ever heard well except for Mariah Carey.
Ah, Starmania is old but it's a masterpiece. Most of the songs are known to be difficult to sing, as for "SOS d'un terrien en détresse". Each song had become a french classic and is still played on the radio. Most of the people recognize Michel Berger and Luc Plamandon as genius. When he first met Daniel Balavoine, Michel Berger was looking for someone to play Johnny Rockfort. He saw Daniel at TV and was amazed by this incredible powerful voice. Daniel probably was the badass singer Michel always dreamt to be. Thanks to his voice ability, he could write very difficult and powerful songs for his opera. Moreover, every song you pick will stay in your mind forever :
Le blues du businessman, Travesti, Les adieux d'un sex symbol, Monopolis, La chanson de Ziggy, Le monde est stone, Le rêve de Stella Spotlight,...
More of Starmania:
-Les uns contre les autres
-Le monde est stone
-Le blues du businessman
Fun fact : Nanette has met success in French Canada and France when she was 20 . She was born in the Bronx NY and grew up in Jacksonville Mississipi USA. Her biggest fan base is Canadian. Back again in 2021 thank you Dereck . Another fire track of this Musical is "Ce soir on danse" ... Nanette's voice is just perfection
Dereck is becoming français... Merci pour tous ces classiques. J'adore.
lol :)
If you want to hear more Nanette Workman, look up the following other songs, also from Starmania: "Travesti" and "Ce soir on danse (à Naziland)"
Nanette Workman is an American who came to live in the Province of Québec in the late 60's. She was a chorus girl for a while, she even sang with the Rolling Stones in the late 60's, early 70's. You like her voice? Try in the opera rock Starmania listening to Ce soir, on danse (Naziland). Nanette is something else, really! In French or in English, she's one of a kind! Love that girl. :-)
Nanette Workman is a Canadian American singer. Used to be a back up singer for the Stones, worked with Johnny Halliday whom she also dated and now is retired in some village in France.
De ce que je sais, elle vit au Québec... du moins j'étais allée chez elle plus jeune
She was born in the USA but emigrated to Canada in the late 60"s
Nanette Workman born in the usa and came live in Québec canada. she sang a lot of disco song and participate in Starmania opera rock as Sadia! she has a page in wikipedia and was popular with disco song with Lady marmelad, danser danser, call girl and many more. but you have to hear Ce soir on danse à Naziland from Starmania ! great voice with a suave tone! Another great singer here in Quebec!
The woman singer is Nanette Workman she sang another sang in this musical.
The black stars is the name of the "gang" of Daniel balavoine in this show. Nice review! I can still listen to it just for the emotions of this song!
Dereck, the song "Ziggy" by Céline Dion (you reacted to it) is also a Starmania song :)
This musical written in 1976 talks about a society in the future where most people's goal is to become famous. Daniel plays Johnny Rockfort, a gang leader who becomes a terrorist, because violence is the only way for the "left behind" to be heard... He meets Cristal (France Gall), who is hosting a famous talk show on TV and wants to interview him.
Ziggy is a young gay (the one Céline Dion loves in her song) who wants to tell his coming-out story in Cristal's show. And Zero Janvier is a very rich businessman, living in a tower, and who wants to become... president.
I highly recommend everyone to listen to the live version of Starmania, it's a pure masterpiece
"SOS d'un terrien en detresees" was from Starmania! Starmania or "Tycoon" in the English version ( with Cindy Lauper and Peter Kingsbury from Cock robin)
A Nice moment again. Merci beaucoup Dereck. Love from France 💚💛❤️
Starmania is an awesome musical show..
Main songs of Nanette Workman in Starmania are "CE SOIR ON DANSE A NAZILAND" and "TRAVESTI". Worth a listen.
The Eagle has landed! Yes :-D So many excellent songs in Starmania (of course, I'm biased since I've been a huge fan of the show since I was 12). You have commented on one of them: SOS d'un terrien en detresse is from this opera rock. Nanette workman has two great songs in this show: Travesti (you will love this) and Ce soir, On dance. Other Balavoine song of note from this show: Banlieue Nord.
This song is at the beginning of the show. It's our introduction to the Black Stars (a gang from the "zone", meaning poorer suburbs, possibly projects). Johnny Rockfort (Balavoine) is the leader. They're the symbol of a wasted youth, roaming aimlessly and without purpose in a world that has no place for them. They are rebels and terrorize people. They set the scene for a society in full fracture between the interests of the ultra-wealthy (represented by Zero Janvier; check out the "Blues du Businessman", a song that's been covered by many, many people, including Celine Dion) and the darkness everyday people live in, with the poorest litterally living underground. The show is set in the future (it said 2000 at the time) and society has been so polluted that people have started living underground or very far up in extremely tall buildings (Zero Janvier has just finished building the "Tour doree" (or Golden Tower), which plays a critical role toward the end of the show).
When the show starts, there's going to be elections. Zero Janvier, an extremely successful businessman, runs on little more of a platform than to get rid "terrorists" (i.e., the Black Stars). Several characters move between these two worlds of glitz and darkness:
- La serveuse automate (the automated waitress) who is a witness to what is happening with the Black Stars (they gather at the "Underground Cafe" where she works). Check out "Les Uns contre les Autres" and "Le Monde est Stone" (Cindy Lauper sang the English version of this song).
- Sadia (Nanette Workman) is a sort of anarchist who grew up in the rich world, but decides to stir trouble by going to the Black Stars and using them for her purpose;
- Crystal (France Gall) is a bright, shiny TV host; she meets Johnny Rockfort and falls in love with him, then joins him (to everyone's great shock). Check out "Besoin d'Amour".
- Stella Spotlight is a porn star who is retiring; she's been in the glitzy world, but it's about to slip away from her; like the automated waitress, she's a witness, but to what is happening with Zero Janvier.
There are a few secondary characters with great songs as well. As much as I love the 1978 songs, there was never any video made (tragic! only short videoclips are available as far as I know) and, while the songs and singers were fantastic, the production values would look quite rough nowadays. It was the first time that a musical show like this was ever produced with any success in France (we don't have the Broadway tradition). In terms of the show itself, I prefer the 1990 version (you can see the whole show on UA-cam). Several great singers started their career on Starmania: Balavoine of course, but also Bruno Pelletier (Johnny Rockfort) and Maurane (Serveuse automate).
Starmania was, in many ways prophetic (and still is) and a cautionary tale we should all yield. Unfortunately, what it foretold has happened in many ways (the parallels with what has happened in the US since 2016 are truly eerie). Let's hope we'll heed the lessons before it's too late.
Happy listenings!
I'm a french musician and i grew up with this. Of course, as a lot of french people, my idols are more UK or US oriented artists (Queen, MJ, Police, etc...) but I can say we had OUR best Musical as "Starmania". And I'm surprised but also delighted to see people from other countries also loving it !!! Thanks :) NOTE : also happy you noticed the great Jannick Top's bass lines !
Ahhhh! That’s the stuff! Doesn’t get old. Nanette Workman did back vocals on some Rolling Stones albums. She had most of her career in French, in Quebec. Still singing to this day! Great blues lady. You should react to Starmania as a complete rock opera. She’s also doing Travesti on it. (And woah, the vocal piece there. You’re already gone bananas but don’t know it yet..). It’s a legendary piece, probably at least five official versions on stage now.
I think you can listen all starmania songs they are all masterpieces. There's even an english version called tycoon you can compare to, written by tim rice and Elton John and sung by a lot of american/english artists (but the orginal french opera is better)
you could even react to the rock opera enterely (but it's a 2h show)
you'll find France Gall in duet with balavoine and Fabienne thibault (some artists you have listened and liked before)
GO for Starmania songs, it could be a weekly format Derek !
The fabulous Peter Kinsbury(ex Cock Robin) is in Tycoon, also I believe so is Cyndi Lauper.
Thank you for that reaction, Dereck. That song is his first huge success that made him a star in France. The song is about bad guys doing very bad things at night in the city just because they want to feel alive before they become too old. The lyrics are pretty depressing but the song is really energetic. And, of course, Daniel Balavoine is brilliant, as usual. So, that's why we really love that song in France.
It's the theme song from the gang called "black Stars" in the musical.
The term "Zonard" means "dropout", guys that live on the edge, without jobs, outlaw, often violent etc... "Zonard" as always outside in the zone.
YEESSSS!!!!
OMG!
It"s an excellent song, the lyrics are just phenomenal!!! always remind me about the film "The warriors"
Dereck ! You'll have to listen all Starmania from the beginnig to the end. It's a Masterpiece ! Thanks to react to one of the tracks !
Hi Derek !
Actually, you already did 2 reactions to Starmania. It'ds just you didn't knew it. You reacted to dimash "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" which originally was sung (and composed specifically for) Daniel Balavoine.
And though it probably already have been brought to your attention, in your reaction to "Ethiopie" (Chanteurs sans frontières), you asked about a woman which voice captivated you. That was Fabienne Thibeault, which was the original interpret of "Ziggy" (original title "Un garçon pas comme les autres") which you did a reaction to Celine Dion's version.
Finally Nanette Workman is an american singer who is mainly known in Quebec. Worldwide, she is mostly known for her role in Starmania, but was also a choir singer for Johnny Hallyday, The Rolling Stones, John Lennon and Ringo Starr
He also reacted to "the chanteur" from Daniel Balavoine which was also in the musical
@@ThornyDevil231 no it wasn't. Sorry.
@@ThornyDevil231 As michidar already told you, "Le Chanteur" is not part of Starmania. But I presume you'll have a chance to check that soon, as Dereck seems eager to go through the all album of the musical
One of my favorites songs of all time. Daniel Balavoine and Michel Berger were true geniuses
Oui
Thanks for you listen , good job 👍💪
Thank you Dereck for featuring this song! Nanette Workman is an amazing singer and performer - love her! As suggested in other comments, Ce soir on danse from the same show really showcases her impressive vocals.
I know you don't do remakes, but there was a terrific revival of this musical in the early 90s that's worth a listen.
Nanette was fantastic in "La légende de Jimmy" as well.
A true classic ! Thanks ;)
Ah !!! Starmania ! The musical writing by Michel Berger and Luc Plamandon ! Soooo good 🤩🤩🤩😍😍😍😍💐💐💐💐💐
I think it’s fairly common for artists to identify themselves with the underdogs of the society, the ones who run high on emotion: they are as misunderstood in their behaviour as the artists are misunderstood in their artistic proposal.
Finally ! 🥳🥳🥳
Starmania is an absolute masterpiece... every single song ! You're on for a wonderfull ride my friend 😁
It's been said already but if you wanna hear more of Nanette, the obvious first choice would be "Travesti" such revolutionary lyrics for the late 70s, you're gonna love it !
To sum things up a little :
Starmania is sort of a dystopia, it takes place in Monopolis (big city, capital of the Occident) it is election time and the main candidate is Zero Janvier, billionaire businessman with extremist views on how society should be run. The Black Stars are somewhat of a resistance group, labeled terrorists by the media and state, led by Johnny Rockfort and Sadia...
This song is the one they sing to depict what happens when they are out in the streets of Monopolis.
There is so much more to say about the story but man, I'm so excited that you are getting into this !
Starmania changed my life !!! ❤
There are 4 official versions of the show :
- 1978/79 : the original (or "the blue edition"), with Daniel Balavoine, France Gall... a lot to listen, not much to watch.
- 1988/89 : "the red edition",
different singers, Maurane, Renaud Hantson, the Groulx brothers... all of them amazing voices. Best stage version ever, the most faithfull to Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon's original vision of the story, since this time they were the ones directing the show.
(here with english subs : ua-cam.com/video/VKF_SqeKTYo/v-deo.html )
- 1994 : Some great singers too, Bruno Pelletier, Isabelle Boulay... but honestly an absolute shitshow in terms of stage direction, orchestration and costumes... not worth a glance.
- 2020 : well, we're still waiting on that one 😅 ... should be 2022.
I'm gonna stop now 🤣... until your next Starmania reaction ! 😜
And finally Thomas Jolly's version has started in Nice two days ago ! 🤩
7 official ones, Let’s not forget Made is Quebec 1980 production, and 1986 Quebec version that paved the way to Edition Edition. They are also very very interesting and that’s where Martine St Clair, Richard Groulx and Norman Groulx were disvovered. ✨✨✨ And 😎Luc also had Starmania staged as opera in Quebec.
It'll be fun when Derek will hear her solo parts in Starmania
She is just an amazing singer. And her partition in Starmania suit her impeccably. 😍
Many wonderful songs in Starmania, you already listened to "SOS d'un terrien en détresse" or a cover of "un garçon pas comme les autres" by Celine Dion but there are tons of great ones ! For Nanette Workman, she plays the part of Sadia who's one of the leader of the Black Stars along with Johnny Rockfort (Balavoine), she has some good songs on her own too like "ce soir on danse au naziland" or "travesti" .
Other great songs from Starmania : le blues du businessman, la chanson de Ziggy, la complainte de la serveuse automate, les uns contre les autres, le monde est stone, le rêve de Stella Spotlight, les adieux d'un sex-symbole...
The originals are wonderful, the 1980's version is great too, there are many other covers of the songs, and the English version Tycoon is also good though the lyrics are very different and there's only the main songs covered
Oh yes Dereck ! That song is so strong (like many others from Daniel). Listen to 'Un enfant assis attend la pluie', 'Lucie', 'Pour la femme veuve qui s'éveille'
The original musical was sadly never recorded but the 1988 version was, please do a reaction to the entire show, every song are amazing
Black Stars is the name of the gang. In the story of Starmania, They will be turn into a revolutionary group by Johny Rockfort (=Balavoine, "Rockfort" is also a joke, with Roquefort a french Cheese, and fort, who can be translate as "strong" or with "Rock" before fort could mean "loud", So "Johnny does loud Rock". It may also be relate to HardRock.
In the story, the occident is only one country, a big city "Metropolis". Zero Janvier, a multi-billionaire, businessman and media leader is campaigning to be president (Trump, but 35 years before), he doesn't give a damn about ecology, pollution, and is very very right wing. Other stories are mixed in, homosexuality, the loneliness of forgotten people, love also between Johnny and Crystla, the presentress-reporter of the show "StarMania" who will join him in his revolution (inspired by a real fact, where an hostage takes up arms in the war of those who kidnapped her).
There was a big stars in this show.
I recommend you so many songs from this rock-opera!
"Blues du businessman" also know as "J'aurais voulu être un artiste" (Claude Dubois) ua-cam.com/video/9I6WbsZYRnc/v-deo.html
"Le monde is stone" (Fabienne Thibeault) ua-cam.com/video/DpM766s_4kM/v-deo.html
wich I'm sure you know as it has be sang in English "the world is stone"
"SOS d'un terrien en détresse" (Balavoine) ua-cam.com/video/slCipWPDdHw/v-deo.html
If you like Musical in "Notre Dame de Paris", you must listen to "Lune" (Bruno Pelletier) ua-cam.com/video/8xy0YytwZjE/v-deo.html
You also have Céline dion singing the blues of the businessman
Sos d'un terrien en détresse 👍
Roquefort is simply the best cheese in space time.... But it requires REAL bread.
@@garryiglesias4074 avec des poires and, of course, a bottle of sweet white wine from the Loire Vallée, like Coteaux du Layon or Quart de Chaumes...
@@DH007-w2d Just bread and Roquefort thank you. I come from Bordeaux, but I dislike the 'alcohol culture". While there's a massive prohibition for cannabis, being drunk is "being a good French".
Nope, I did drink a bit at party in my 20's, but almost don't drink anymore unless exceptional situation (less than once a year...), with the only wine I accept: Bordeaux :).
And pears ?? Well do as you wish but I don't like to mess up tastes, sugar is not a taste I like very much, and it'd destroy the raw taste of the Roquefort which I'm thriving for. It's like all those "cocktails" alcohol, I have the highest contempt of this. If you need sweet, that's because you don't really like it. Like with cocktails not to feel the REAL taste of alcoholic beverages..
Please keep your sugar away, I want my salt.
Omggggg thank youuuu! Please listen to the 1979 album, it’s the full live performance, with wayyy more songs, tying the story together.
Nanette Workman, very popular in French Canada, originally from Mississippi, came to live here and stayed here. ⚜️🇨🇦🏳️🌈😘
"stone le monde est stone" is a great one from starmania
That album was made by Michel Berger and most of the songs on the album were sung by Daniel Balavoine, that's why it's so cool to hear
Derek...Nanette workman recorded Lady Marmelade in french a year or less after the version from Labelle. Her version is very good
Nanette plays the role of Sadie (member of a gang of thugs, with Johnny Rock, played by Daniel Balavoine), in this version.
The song that I like, for the role of Zéro Janvier (the politician), is "the blues of the businessman", and for the role of Stella Spotlight (the ex-star) "The farewells of a sex symbol". There is the role of the journalist Cristal, held by France Gall. The role of the waitress ...
Years later, Celion Dion took over a song from the waitress: "Ziggy", in French and in English.
It's an Opera Rock by Michel Berger and the women is Nanette Workman
Nanette Workman is an American singer who made most of her career in France and Canada
She worked with a lot a brilliant artists, and she had a very successful career as a back up singer, unfortunately her solo career never really took off, despite several very good albums
To me, she has one of the most incredible female voice I ever heard, and the first time I heard her voice, my reaction was exactly the same as yours, I froze and went “WHO is she??”
Nanette is a legend in Quebec. She was born in Brooklyn, Raised in Mississippi and she is in the Mississippi music hall of fame and even has a building named after her at the State University. She has dual Canadian/US citizenship.
She IS Lady Marmalade. She co-wrote it and sung it first. ua-cam.com/video/4ecmKp8QSIY/v-deo.html
She was our 70s sex-symbol/ rock-star in Quebec.
She also kind of started out being a backup vocal for The Rolling Stones on tour and for albums. NOT A BAD START ...
PS: It's a family thing. Her dada played in the Tommy Dorset orchestra.
But what we LOVE about her is her BLUES.. ua-cam.com/video/jU1ns5NVzvw/v-deo.html
This is the original of that song.. ua-cam.com/video/ByV2m8kdDA8/v-deo.html... She REALLY did a number on it.
This is only the beginning my friend !
Starmania 1rst version 1978 is a masterrpeace you can listen all songs ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thank you so much Dereck for this reaction video. So cool ! Do you know that an english version of Starmania was made about 20 later called Tycoon with Peter Kingsbery and Cindy Lauper ?
Still in Starmania you should listen to France Gall in "J'ai besoin d'amour" and Diane Dufresne in "Le rêve Stella Spotlight" 👍
Great job Dereck. 😊
A little damage done sung by Bros (Luke and Matt Goss) ^^
Hi Dereck. You'd also lose your bananas over other Daniel Balavoine songs such as "Dieu Que C'Est Beau", "Chanson pour la Femme Veuve Qui S'Eveille", "Aimer Est Plus Fort Que D'Etre Aimé", "Petit Homme Mort Au Combat", "Un Enfant Assis Attend La Pluie". So emotional. Keep up the good work and take care.
Dereck, if you start reacting to Starmania, you will come across French 80s song standards endlessly.
Daniel Balavoine rocks ❤ 💔
Blackstars are a fictionnal gang in the musical Starmania. in France in the late 70's there were many gangs that roamed the streets there were mainly two groups of individuals mostly recognisable because they were BIKERS. there were the Black Leathers and... THE BUTCHER BOYS! This is one of the face of Franc that you wouldn't imagine and it's depicted here in this song.
You wouldn't believe it but the shit would quickly become REAL whenever Black Leathers decided to raid a city or a mall. Chains, crowbars and razorblades were out. And when they met with the butcher boys... blood and death my friend... blood and death;
Musical write and composed by Mr Michel Berger et Luc Plamandon
"Quand on arrive en ville", une chanson qui marche à tous les coups en soirée. Si tu enchaînes ensuite avec "La groupie du pianiste", c'est le COMBO de la mort ! :) Testé et approuvé !

Bear with me, I wasn't good in English when I was in school! 😆
When everyone is sleeping peacefully/Quand tout l'monde dort tranquille
In the dormitory suburbs/Dans les banlieues-dortoirs
It the time when the ghettos/C'est l'heure où les zonards
Dive on the city/Descendent sur la ville
Who rape the girls/Qui est-ce qui viole les filles
The night in the parking lot?/Le soir dans les parkings ?
Who put buildings on fire?/Qui met l'feu aux building ?
Always the ghettos/Toujours les zonards
So.../Alors...
It's the panic on the boulevards/C'est la panique sur les boulevards
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville
Everyone walks by on the other side/Tout l'monde change de trottoir
We don't look manly/On n'a pas l'air viril
But we're scary to see/Mais on fait peur à voir
Guys who put make-up/Des gars qui se maquillent
It's funny for the bystanders/Ça fait rire les passants
But when they see blood/Mais quand ils voient du sang
On our rasorblades/Sur nos lames de rasoirs
It's like.../Ça fait...
A lightning bolt in the fog/Comme un éclair dans le brouillard
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville
[Refrain]
We/Nous
All we want is to be happy/Tout c'qu'on veut c'est être heureux
To be happy before to be old/Être heureux avant d'être vieux
We don't have the time to wait to have 30/On n'a pas l'temps d'attendre d'avoir trente ans
We/Nous
All we want is to be happy/Tout c'qu'on veut c'est être heureux
To be happy before to be old/Être heureux avant d'être vieux
We take everything we can meanwhile/On prend tout c'qu'on peut prend en attendant
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville
We arrive from nowhere/On arrive de nulle part
We live homeless/On vit sans domicile
We sleep in hangars (warehouses)/On dort dans des hangars
The day we're relaxed/Le jour on est tranquille
We go incognito/On passe incognito
The night we change our skin/Le soir on change de peau
And we hit randomly/Et on frappe au hasard
So.../Alors...
Be prepared to fight/Préparez-vous pour la bagarre
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville
When the underground city/Quand la ville souterraine
Is plunged in darkness/Est plongée dans le noir
People who wander there/Les gens qui s'y promènent
Emerged on stretchers/Ressortent sur des brancards
We act without a motive/On agit sans mobile
It looks odd to you/Ça vous parait bizarre
Maybe because we're dumb/C'est p't'êt' qu'on est débile
Maybe because of despair/C'est p't'êt' par désespoir
At least/Du moins
That what the evening news say/C'est c'que disent les journaux du soir
When the year 2000 comes, we'll be 40/Quand viendra l'an 2000 on aura quarante ans
If we don't live now, tomorrow it will be too late/Si on vit pas maintenant, demain il sera trop tard
What are we going to do tonight/Qu'est-ce qu'on va faire ce soir
Maybe we're going to smash everything/On va peut-etre tout casser
If you're going dancing don't go home late/Si vous allez danser ne rentrez pas trop tard
For fear we scratch your Jaguars/De peur, qu'on égratigne vos Jaguars
Be prepared to fight/Préparez vous pour la bagarre
It's the panic on the boulevards/C'est la panique sur les boulevards
When we arrive in town/Quand on arrive en ville, yeah!

Nanette is one of the best singers. She's is from the USA but mainly sang in Quebec. If you want to listen to more Nanette Workman, you should react also another song from Starmania that is called "Ce soir on danse". There is also 3 other hits that she did: 'Call Girl', 'I lost my baby' and the french version of 'Lady Marmelade'

Hi Dereck, I just to tell you that the "woman" you've heard at the end of the song is Daniel Balavoine himself😏😏.
Dereck, I STRONGLY recommend "Travesti" from Nanette Workman, I guarantee a shitload of bananas off the window. The song is also from Starmania.
You should listen to Ce soir on danse à Naziland from Starmania the orignial version with Nanette Workman. Just for the end note, you can witness the power of his voice. It's worth listening to.
Nanette Workman, Hell yeah! She's one of a kind. In Quebec Canada she's an icone, an english girl who was backvocalist for the Rolling Stones, the Beatle and many other and she choose to sing in french, just wow and what a incredible voice. From the same periode you have to listen Ce Soir On Danse a Naziland ua-cam.com/video/6CF8cbfvguQ/v-deo.html or many other song cause she got a lots of hits since the 60's, like Donne Donne (give give) ua-cam.com/video/lW6xV8D6Xws/v-deo.html or Danser Danser ua-cam.com/video/PnpEVKhIejc/v-deo.html or in the 80's Laisse Moi Le Temp de M'y Faire (give time to deal with it) ua-cam.com/video/z16jhIa171Y/v-deo.html or Shame on You ua-cam.com/video/z16jhIa171Y/v-deo.html or Dans Mes Yeux Noir (in my black eye) ua-cam.com/video/5h2zWquecBo/v-deo.html or more recently you got All I Want To Be (Is By Your Side) ua-cam.com/video/k8FnvhSTVLM/v-deo.html or When Love Leaves the Room ua-cam.com/video/KR9TKBksEeY/v-deo.html and finally, two live performance with Celine Dion Lady Marmelade ua-cam.com/video/T-3NLfCTLTc/v-deo.html and J'irais où tu iras (i'll go where you go) ua-cam.com/video/d6VBwTiZipY/v-deo.html. Enjoy and feel free to react to her and see is wikipedia, she's a beast!
Her name is Nanette Workman ! 😉
Starmania enabled to Daniel to be well known
Thanks, Dereck ! Balavoine : you listen to him once, you can't help listening to him 😉
It's a bit like "bad" from MJ. The bad side of some artists. Or even Thiller when they impersonate themselves in someone else once night time.
Each starmania song has lots of technicality in instrumentation and vocals. Very high. But I think none have super hit bananas catchyness. (Like audio gear have a tonal ranking and a technical ranking, or in figure skating). For me it's a bunch of artist, who are asked to work together with minimum time. Lots of technicalities but lacking the creative inspiration that truly lift songs.
My favs are probably Monopolis, complainte de la serveuse automate, Besoin d'amour by the unique fact of being France Gall (but not the bananest ^^) ,Banlieue Nord. I mean they are also "reviewable", but aren't on my go to playlist.
Hi Dereck! There was a project of an english version of Starmania with Cindy Lauper and the singer of Cock Robin. I recommand you a lot!
Nanette workman had the purest voice of all. Check her other songs from teh musical.
hi Dereck, for the singer at the end of the song it is nanette workman.
Hello Dereck,
It seems to me to recognize Michel Berger voice in background vocal. Great record of this song with such sound quality!
Happy you've discover this other song performed by the unforgettable Daniel.
For the lil story "S.o.s d'un terrien en détresse" by D. Balavoine and Dimash you've already reacted is also a song from "Starmania".
You should react on "CÉLINE DION - Le blues du businessman (Live at The Junos) 1999" which is also a song from Starmania.
This song is originally performed by Claude Dubois. Maybe you could reacting to the original first and the cover just after but on the same video as sometimes you did? ;)
Good week to all, my friends!
Yes, Claude Dubois first and then Céline! Claude Dubois owns the song imo. Of all the other artists who did a cover of it, Claude is one of the best, if not, the best!
Céline Dion.. sang many many song from that modern Opéra.. VERY STUNNING BEAUTIFULL
Nanette Workman "Ce soir on danse" from the Musical Starmania ua-cam.com/video/IbpRfzg0-a0/v-deo.html 😉 Diane Dufresne "Les Adieux d’un sex-symbol" also from the Musical Starmania : ua-cam.com/video/Bl64ZkgBOIM/v-deo.html 🇫🇷😘
The girl singing is Nanette Workman, a French-canadian singer. Try the great song "Travesti" or "Ce soir on dans à Naziland" from the same Starmania.
Je vous propose juste de voir une fois l'opéra rock Star mania.
C'est à rendre fou.
Merci pour votre travail.
Hi Dereck ,you should try to find all the pieces of this Starmania , a real jewel ❤️
Hi Derek, you actually reacted to several starmania songs. For example Ziggy ua-cam.com/video/BNhwcGiVxLQ/v-deo.html but unfortunately the cover from Celine, not the original song from the singer of the Opera, and also SOS d'un terrien en detresse, which is also a song from starmania originally sang by Daniel Balavoine (this one you get the original, on top of other cover such as the one from Dimash). There was so many hits from starmania, that I'm sure you will react to other songs from this opera, like for example "Besoin d'amour" from France Gall. She was one of the female star singer on the Opera, she was interpreting the character Cristal who fall in love with the character interpreted by Daniel Balavoine. After the huge success of Starmania, the opera was translated in English and performed in USA, but I guess the name of the Opera was changed to Tycoon.
Deer Dereck i'm a great fan of your reactions about french singers.Your reaction about "Quand on arrive en ville" out of Starmania is very great and I don't know if you already reacted to another one
but it should be great if you react to this very very great song out of Starmania too:"les uns contre les autres" sung by Fabienne Thibeault. Goosebumps for sure. Bye sincerely yours.
You already made a reaction for Starmania with SOS !!! You heard the Dimash version, and the original version by Daniel Balavoine. Starmania is the most beautiful Musical success in France, with Les Miserables, Romeo et Juliette, Notre Dame de Paris et les 10 commandemants. Michel Berger composed 2 musicals : Starmania (1978) and La Legende de Jimmy (1990). Nanette Worman is the only singer to be in these two original masterpieces. She's canadian, as some other cast. The original studio album, with the blue cover you show on miniature, is one of the best sell album in France. All tracks became classical standard. You have to ludten it entirely to be so enjoy :-) I hope you read all comments because you can understand many things.
Should listen to : Belle ( beautiful) performance from Garou playing Quasimodo, Daniel Lavoie playing priest and Patrick Fiori playing lover from Notre Dame de Paris
Listen from Nanette workman : La beauté du diable (from the musical La legende de Jimmy)
Soon Fabienne Thibault ? Dereck 's waiting for her.
Nanette workman in Starmania: "ce soir on danse". DO IT, you'll be blown away!!! Also: Diane Dufresne in "Les adieux d'un sex symbol" also from Starmania. You will die and go straight to Heaven (or Hell, wichever you choose).
Nanette Joan Workman, it the wuman who singing at the final
Nanette Workman is an American that made her career in Quebec.
Her first french hit is "et maintenant" : ua-cam.com/video/HkU8_SEwo64/v-deo.html
Two other big hit from her are "call girl" : ua-cam.com/video/egHCTH_82X0/v-deo.html and "Lady Marmalade"
Black stars is the name of the gang ! 👀 One of another favorite song in Starmania is "Quand on a plus rien à perdre" with Daniel Balavoine & France Gall ! 😁✨
