I don't know how the newer 4.0 and 5.0 are but I have an old Joe Rocket Atomic 3.0. I nabbed it on clearance when I bought my first bike for only $79 and despite a serious crash that hospitalized me for half a year it only lost a single grommet and one of its arm buckles got slightly bent. Six years later and aside from the crash damage it's still holding up strong and I have ridden it in temperatures well below freezing as well as a tropical storm dumping rain.
You truly don't need a $500 jacket to ride all year.
Mostly what you're paying for on the higher end jackets are included CE2 padding and higher abrasion resistance across the entire jacket.
What to look for on a good budget textile jacket is 600+ abrasion rating overall with reinforcement in key slide and impact areas, replaceable armor so you can upgrade to level 2 if desired, waterproof gatering around the zippers, and a quality liner + venting on the outer shell.
Looking at the Atomic 5.0 vs 4.0 vs 3.0 seems quality may have gone down over the years. They make no abrasion strength claims on the 5.0 textile and the 4.0 was a little lower than the 3.0.
Cortech, Noru, and Tour Master are all decent budget brands but you need to be picky with their models if you want lasting quality. Avoid plastic fasteners when possible.

Good info. Thanks! I have a couple of Joe Rocket jackets as well. I have a textile that I still use from around 2000 that just keeps plugging along. Thankfully haven’t tested it. Be safe out there!

Hey Marcus. Thanks for watching the video! That jacket has worked well for the three or four rides I have done in the winter. It has been pretty toasty warm. I am ready to try more in warmer weather, you know, for more field testing...Have fun and be safe!

HWK Adventure/Touring Motorcycle Jacket For Men from Amazon. Cheap but surprisingly good for the money. I have one. Thinking of buying their summer mesh jacket, can get hot here in Australia in January.

How is this gear holding up?
How is the venting working in the Warmer weather?
Have you been able to repeatedly experience its Waterproof qualities with just the DWR coating and/or the Reissa liner?

Hey there. Thanks for asking. I am just now starting to ride again. It was a long winter. I work from home so my riding is purely for pleasure. I have used the jacket about a dozen times and it has never rained on me more than a sprinkle. I don't think that is enough to really be able to speak to its durability or water resistance, unfortunately. I did notice it went up in price since I bought it. Now it is much closer in price to some other name brand items, but even some of those have concerns about the waterproofing in the reviews. Once I am caught in a good downpour, I will come back and report here. Wish I could tell you something more definitive. I did ride in it yesterday for an hour or so but the temps are still low 70s where I live. I opened some vents and it was much cooler than the textile Harley jacket I wore today. I was regretting my decision once I got to lower elevations. But, being from Texas, 70s don't count for heat. Thanks!

Like the videos and content, but are you aware your audio is only on the left channel?

    • @swcoloradoadventures

Hello there. Yes. On this one I do. I made a stereo version of it and linked it to this one. Unfortunately, I had already posted and gotten several views, so, I duplicated it when I realized. Link is in first pinned comment. Its funny because I am a voice actor also and never have audio issues from my studio. I finally realized it was my video editing software that was making it one sided even though my audio file was stereo. I goofed up two or three videos before I realized what was causing the mistake. Thanks for pointing out though. This input helps me get better. Thanks for watching and making it through the silliness!

At the other end of the scale I am looking at the Komine JK-150 Protect Mesh Adventure Jacket as its getting uncomfortably HOT and is priced at $279..
Some constructive feed back set your audio track to mono your only coming out of the left speaker 🙂

Thanks for that. It’s strange cause I save it as a stereo on adobe audition. I typically only do mono when I’m doing voiceovers. Good feedback!

@@swcoloradoadventures not sure about Audition I use Davinci Resolve Studio and in Fairlight you pick the track right click on it and set track type to mono or whatever you want the track to be.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend the Knox Urbane line CE AA rating with full suite of Knox's CE level 2 armor included. It can be worn standalone during the summer but is designed to be worn under standard street wear year round.
You can get the MK. 2 on HEAVY discount currently.

I’ll work on that! Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve had the bike for about 3 months now, so I’ve got quite a bit to acquire. The boots I’m using now are mine from when I was in the Air Force. Thanks!

FOUR MINUTES!! Four freaking minutes!!! That's how long I had to wait for you to get done with your pointless, rambling introduction. Dude -- just get to the point. Nobody wants to watch your multi-angle face shots or listen to a bunch of nothing before you get to the point. Oh, and Klim is pronounced with a long I. Just sayin.
