On June 10th 2022 I was hit while on my motorcycle, The short story is, while the first responders were cutting the jacket off of me so they could check for injuries..."wow...you are wearing the good stuff....the jacket you are wearing kept you from loosing your skin and the padding kept you from breaking your elbows and back".... "finally...someone smart enough to wear the good stuff"

I sure hope you're okay, Bud! I'm a weekend canyon rider, and I recently rolled up on an accident shortly after it happened. EMS was a few minutes behind me. Luckily, the injuries were mild. Since the EMS guy worked that canon full time for years, I asked how much difference there is between someone who wears proper gear, and someone who doesn't. The answer wasn't just that the difference is huge. It is REALLY huge. And that's from a pro. So we should always dress for the slide, and not for the ride. ATB!

Hey folks- I ran across this when shopping for a new HWK coat. First let me background you all- I'm pushing 60 and been riding for 50+ years. I ride a 'Wing on the streets and a Husqvarna in the dirt. I bought the pants and the short version of this coat probably 5 years ago because it was cheap and I could get my hands on them in a couple of days. I mean $60 for the coat and $50 for the pants; these are practically disposables, right? Well when I got my hands on them I was impressed up front with build quality and seemingly great safety features. I live in SD where temps go anywhere from -15F to +105F(all in the same week) so I have used this coat in it all. I get what everyone is saying about it being too warm for the summer temps but show me any coat at any price that is cooler and protects better- I'll be all over it.
Ultimately, these suits are like a helmet, and while they keep you warm and dry you truly only use them once. Or not? I was unfortunate enough to test one of these bad boys 18 months ago courtesy of a deer. Saw it standing in the ditch, braked the 'Wing so hard I thought I was going to pull off a stoppie. Got down to 20ish mph and the stupid thing leaped- I caught it mid-air and it slammed the bars over to full lock, tossing me over the top. I slid a few feet along the highway and came to a nice peaceful stop. The beloved GL1800 did the same, never touching anything but left-side pegs and crash bars. Anyway, I got up, checked the bike first and then myself. Dude, the coat more than did it's job. No bumps, no bruises, not the slightest bit of road rash. If I point it out to you it's possible to see the scuffing on the wrist and forearm area of the jacket and the upper right pocket on the pants but we never even came close to grinding through to precious flesh.
As I said, this happened 18 months ago and I saw this vid while looking for a replacement simply because, well, they are so inexpensive and it's got some bug guts, sweat and motor oil soaked into it after five years but I'm absolutely sold on these things. No way you can go wrong. I've even raced both TT and Hare Scrambles in them during cold weather without them restricting movement and am keeping the old set for future races.

Excellent review! Have owned same jacket and the matching pants for a year. I think they are outstanding value. Lots of pockets. Yeah, anything over 75 degrees is a bit warm. But then that's when one switches to mesh gear, correct? I've stayed perfectly dry in light rain.

I had a different experience. I just bought a pair of their riding pants and the first time ever putting them on the front fly zipper broke off. I sent them a picture and they offered me a 30% discount to have a local tailor fix it and so I told them I just wanted a refund instead. They didn't argue back, but they didn't ask for the pants back so it's really just free CE1 armor since the pants don't stay up well with just 2 buttons holding it together.

Swanky, I appreciate the time making the video and reviewing the HWK jacket. I recenlty purchased the same exact color and I have every bit of admiration of it that you have. It's actually the very first true *Motorcycle* jacket I've ever owned and I've been riding since Christ was a pup. I don't have one single complaint about it. In my opinion, there is no way to go wrong with this jacket especially at this kind of price. I might just order up the white/gray one. Next will be the HWK pants!

It's good companies are going for volume of sales rather then initial pasting to the ceiling with pricing. Prices can either pull people into the sport or push them out of the sport (with bike prices to).
When wearing a jacket (and you should wear protection) opening the front zipper while the neck and bottom of the jacket is/are still snapped/velcro'ed, creates an air scoop that circulates around inside the coat and up the sleeves . On the really really hot days, making you shirt your wearing a little damp will create and aircon to the point your nipples will get hard.. Remember, you are creating the 15/35/65 mile an hour wind chill... use it to your advantage... Rock on...

I didn't get the jacket, but got the $29.00 pants. They are definitely fall/spring wear also. I wore them in 90F heat and it felt like I pissed myself it got so sweaty inside, even with the little vents unzipped front and back. They also screwed up the stitching on the knee pads so one sits too high and one sits too low. Other than that, for a cheap pair of cool weather pants to beat the crud out of, it's hard to beat $29.00.

Had to give dislike as ONE factor unmentioned is protection. You mentioned feeling comfort throughout and yeah, that's a good thing for rain or splashes, but does the Cordura hold up? I realize people don't wish to shred or stab something they pay $50-$70 on day one owning but you can't be reviewing and titling "DON'T buy this CHEAP COAT" if you don't cover all the bases. :/
Maybe I'm just being negative and if so then I'm sorry, but I ALWAYS think safety should be more of a priority over comfort... We've all seen the people riding in T-shirts and shorts but hey, that's (stupid but) comfy... IDK, I'd never do the shirt and shorts thing, would rather sweat my ass off in layers and leathers than shred it off, know what I mean? lol

What I'm thinking 🤔 is something like the rings on a tarp to tie it down. Could one of those places strategically place a couple near your pits, or other problem areas and not hurt the jacket and it's safety features or stitching. 🤷‍♂️ I ordered the mesh one. So I won't have the same problem, but it's also not as versatile for colder or wet weather. Since price is good, why not grab a mesh one also? I was thinking of getting this one for colder weather. Spring/fall 40-70*. Using mesh for primarily summer 80* and up. 🤷‍♂️

I just purchased a hwk jacket, but not this exact one. I was skeptical because in dealerships jackets like these (different brands) are around $150. So I was concerned about the quality. Mine arrives Monday, hope it works well for this summer. From the comments here it seems like HWK in general is a good choice for riding gear? I'll be riding a kawasaki vulcan 650 and honestly im.... concerned.... about what type of riding gear I choose. It may sound silly, but if I wear all leather gear I don't wanna hear crap from harley/Indian guys saying I'm a wanna be. If I wear mesh bright colors I don't wanna hear crap from crotch rocket guys. I just want to be visible, have pads, and stay safe. But when the price is an issue, I need companies like HWK to get me there. Question..... anyone have a link or name of company that does leather, with pads. I can go to Harley dealer but it will say Harley (see above about wanna be comments) I can go to Indian and get one that says Indian. Neither dealer has one that us just plain with out their name on it. So... im looking on line but certain things I wanna see in person, try it on, ect.... so if anyone knows a good place in OKC to get riding leather that's not advertising a specific brand name, or if u know a manufacturer website where the jacket is known to be greatness.... please pass that on. I'll spend
