    9:00 I'll tell you exactly what's in the initiatory room: it's a small room divided into 4 squares by thin curtains. If quarter #1 is where you walk into, quarter #2 has a chair and a small faucet; here, the person is washed symbolically, reminiscent of Aaron and his sons bring washed in the book of Exodus. Quarter #3 has a chair and a small gold-colored horn with oil where the person is anointed on their head. Quarter #4 is a standing space. If you're doing your own initiatory work, this is where you receive the new name; if it's proxy work, that is done at a later space.
    And that's it! You aren't missing anything. It should be noted that being washed, anointed and given a new name are common in situations of royalty. For reference, go back and watch the coronation of king Charles.

Most of my friends are not members, I don't ever try to push it on them, but once they start asking me questions, it's hard to shut me up because I love talking about it so much. I also consider myself extremely logical.... If anything, if I was to give myself some kind of ranking of spirituality, I would score myself super low. I can honestly say that logic and math is what made me believe in the Book of Mormon before I received any kind of spiritual confirmation. I don't think someone needs to be extremely logical or educated to gain an appreciation of the book, but you definitely don't need to go off of "faith alone" due to the incredible amount of evidence that support it's veracity. It just contains way too much information that would have been absolutely impossible for Joseph Smith to have known when he published the book in 1830. Sorry man, don't get me started ;-)

    You keep talking about raising your arm to the square, but you are overlooking what you do with the other hand, which is remnants of the now eliminated very dark parts of the temple endowment, and that is holding your other hand in cupping shape. This was to catch your blood and internal organs as you sacrificed yourself if you were to violate or reveal the covenants. Yep, the temple is actually quite dark.
    EDIT - 8:50 - The change was made in April 1990. My best friend went through the temple in March 1990 and he got the old school sacrificing yourself endowment session. I went through in August 1990, and I got the newer, less violent version.

To pretend that BOTH sexes are unaware of or not responsible for the thoughts they invoke in others with regard to their appearance is just adding to the problem; and if you were actually intellectually honest, you would admit it. Can you explain?

    • @Livrad
      @Livrad 2 місяці тому

      @@WhenIWasMormon Sure. You seem like a nice person, but if you're sincere, you should be more reluctant to accept a lot of these recycled anti-mormon tropes as truth. Like I said, 3/4 of this is true, but that 1/4 is not only inaccurate, but it is misleading, which is wrong. For example, it would not be right for me to make a video about Islamic or Buddhist, or Jewish rituals or rites of which I have never participated in, or only have a surface level understanding. Even if I could get 3/4 of it correct, the last 1/4, might be wrong, or mocking, would be offensive to the people who actually know better. So here is a list of the easier stuff you got wrong: 1) You said that celestial room had "no other purpose" than what you mentioned, but you don't know it's biggest purpose (by far). 2) "Mormon weddings are not like typical civil marriages." Mormon weddings are exactly the same as civil marriages. What happens in the temple which can't happen anywhere else is a "sealing." In this, couples are sealed for time and eternity. LDS people can have their normal civil wedding anywhere they want. 3) "Give the wife a name for the husband to call out." Lol, no. I can actually see how someone might make this stretch, but that is not what the name is for. If you knew the real reason, it would make much better sense. 4) That pic of the garments is disgusting, but it did give me a good laugh... I would be shocked if anyone from our days used garments like those.... it's like some anti-mormons from the 70s sewed up their own set and made them look as gross and baggy as possible so they could say "see what you would have to wear!" Slightly offensive, but also quite funny. 5) Initiations are easy and not a big deal like this video makes them out to be. It's more of a pearls before swine type of thing, sacred and valuable only to those who would have done their homework about making serious covenants between themselves and God. 6) You mentioned being willing to die rather than speak against the church, also wrong. You never make a covenant like that in the temple. You make other covenants, but not that one. 7) Lastly would be a kind of umbrella position that you take where you insinuate that these things are unique to the LDS church. Temples, rooms, altars, veils, garments, and covenants are all over the scriptures, and not so much in the Book of Mormon. Almost everything in the LDS temple is found in the Old Testament and New Testament. The dead sea scrolls and other apocryphal writings discovered long after Joseph Smith are LOADED with doctrines that are easy for LDS to follow, while everyone else just scratches their heads over it. Similar garments and temple traditions have been going on since Adam and Eve, and that isn't just according to LDS prophets, you can find it scattered all over the sacred apocryphas and the bible. If you read this far, congratulations :-)

And it's not blind faith either. I have invested countless hours into study and research. The fact is, Joseph Smith just got too much right. He knew way too many things that would have been impossible for him to know at the time. His predictions and translations have aged way too well to be anything but prophetic. I'm not saying he was perfect, he said himself that he was a flawed man just like any other normal human, but the things he revealed were definitely from God, including the Book of Mormon and the temple covenants.

    I don't like the use of these hazbin hotel clips. They're really jarring and go on for too long. I get that it's saying mormonism is giving people a second chance, but even though people get a second chance in the spirit world (if someone is baptized for them) or in the millennium, after the final judgement, things are set in stone for real this time and mormonism still has the issue of eternal damnation with no hope of redemption. And there's that pesky second anointing issue where prophets can "do whatever and remain in the sky" in this life.
    I also get the feeling that the clips are saying Mormonism is weird or bad for believing in redemption in the afterlife. I know this is not intentional and the opposite point of the show but the removal of context makes it feel supportive of the characters' views. Possible redemption is not what is wrong with baptisms for the dead. What is wrong is the belief that completely independent people need to do something here on earth to help people in the spirit world and that God can't just decide they are now considered baptized once they've enter the spirit world. Putting the weight of ancestors' sins (of omission) onto the younger generations.
    The haphazardly used clips make you come across as trying too hard to appeal to what's currently popular.

      Passive about it?? Passive about the kids that are abused by the troubled teen industry that’s funded and ran by Mormons? Passive about the racism that’s in the Book of Mormon? Passive about the inequality between men and women? Nah… I’m out spoken and not at all how the church raised me to be. I broke free from the mental prison that is the church. I’m angry because they still have prisoners. I’m angry that they still have their chains wrapped around people that don’t even realize what they’re defending. I’m angry that they still have you… when there are so many people suffering that need you.

      Isn't that the same thing with Catholic church's? Daycares centers? Mothers and fathers hurting and abusing kids? What about the teaching sleeping with the students? My comment isn't to hurt your feelings but you have to remember that all religions Norse, wiccan, Catholic, Christian have good people and bad people. It's all the same but dressed differently. So please, don't take offense. I just feel sorry that your angry and hurt is all.

      And I'm glad your speaking up about the abuse that goes on with organizations but remember, attack the evil people but attacking the organization isn't going to stop. Even if you stop the organization, evil people are still out there pretending to be good and it's not easy spotting bad people either. Just remember to walk in there shoes as well.

      @@honeybee32952 I’m angry that all that pain and suffering that happens under the banner of “Jesus loves you”. Good people? I’m sure there are passive good people. The definition of a good person to me is someone that will be on the side of right even when the rest view it as wrong. Calling out the inconsistencies and following the actual evidence that leads you to the truth. (Not a made up feeling that you got from “the prophet”) you said “instead of being passive about it” why would I do that?

      @@WhenIWasMormon because in the end, to define good and bad is difficult. Ones point of view of good is another point of view of bad or evil.
      I appreciate this talk though. We are not arguing or fighting but disagreeing respectfully.
      Take care and please, I hope one day you will heal from the pain you were given and what happened to you. Whatever you need to do to heal, do it regardless of what religion or faith or spiritual journey.
