    Hi Gary, I am doing hookah this July on the Klamath River. Great to see you doing it. Saw one thing I would suggest. You had a hard time keeping air hose out of your way. They have a belt that holds hose to your waist in back of you. Also decided to go with 12 volt electric instead of gasoline driven hookah. No chance to breath gasoline exhaust vapors. Five hour solar charge per battery.

    I've always wanted to start a conservation with "so this morning we got ourselves a helicopter". Haha. I shouldn't do videos because my intro would be "so this morning I forgot my shovel again". Great video bud. Keep them coming

    Gary my man! Out of the Gold prospecting community, you are probably the most talked about person (that I've noticed anyway) and this is exactly why! Helicopters, Detecting, Sniping, Great infirmation and finally, beautiful GOLD! Hah your a lot of fun to watch I hope one day I can meet you! Please don't ever stop and may your finds always get even greater!! Cheers -Paul

    Awesome adventure. I worked as a commercial diver for 35 years. I would coat the tips and palms of my gloves with a very thin layer of Aqua Seal or Sicoflex. They would last 10 times longer. Cold hands cold diver. Cheers.

    I love the "trophy hunt" analogy. The brother in-law and I are straddling the line of trophy hunting vs everything else here in El do county. Our hookah on S fork has been hit miss (water release at chili bar kills us). Our bed rock is same, either decomposed granite or the smooth soft stuff. Great work and outstanding instruction Sir. I'll keep passing the word on you here in El do county!

    Yeah that brought back memories of the golden age of dredging in the feather. Man I miss that stuff! I went back to some old stomping grounds 2 years ago. Only to see the trail was gone over grown and when I made it to the river I was seriously butt hurt! There lay a 10x10x20 ft slab of cliff rock laying on my super high grade high bench placer! I turned around and looked wondering if I was truly in the right location. The river bedrock was 12-15 ft lower than previously. And the water flow moved over 50ft!!!!!! I never would have believed it if I didn't see it with my own eyes! I still managed to pan a few nice pickers so I was ok with that. But what a shock. Soft bedrock sucks! Good content in you video big brother. Hope we cross paths some day .

      I went to what used to be deer camp a couple of weeks ago. I have been hunting with the same two guys for 20 years. Now that you can't hunt Mountain Lion, there are so many, the deer herd is so depleted its not worth the time to hunt. So now we still have deer camp, the only difference is we sleep in, then go treasure hunting and prospecting all day. Good luck and thanks - Gary

    Thanks Gary for another great adventure. My missus was laughing at me the otherday when we took the dog for a walk downstream. and i found the only exposed bedrock in a very overburdened river on an inside bend for about ten kays. Yep a gift from the gold gods, but it looked too clean, i thought . And the afternoon water was cold. But hey,you know how it is, i had to have a look. So i stripped to my boxers and dove in. My 53kg bullarab bitch was circling me as i went down to check under the ledge. Oh thats my dog by the way not the missus. She aint that keen she sat on the gravel. Yep packed gravel. And then wow the first real boil holes i have ever seen around here . Yep and gravel in. Im rounding up some gear and going back. Will let you know how i go. Just having trouble finding a mask.
    Thanks for showing us the way.
    Cant wait for your next show.

    I haven't thought this through or tried it, but it occurred to me, that instead of a compressor & scuba regulator, could you use a CPAP machine, like people use for sleep apnea or snoring abatement and hook the CPAP hose to the end of a snorkel? Seems like that may not only save weight & space but could actually work as well or better, especially if the machine is already setup for the user, if they already use a CPAP.

    I've been patiently waiting for this... Glad your all safe and sharing this. Looks like high up the Yuba river... nice gold you found! There is a crevice at the Shiloh (Comstock Gold Prospectors) claim where the river is approx. 50ft. deep near the main rapid drop-off...after you get suited and get in where the giant boulders are, you go straight across 30-40feet towards the forest side under the water where the bedrock is... there is a crevice past the bottom of the bowl where the bedrock goes up about 5-10 feet and a little to the left. On the right there is a large cliff of bedrock that faces the down-flow of the river and a few inches from the bottom is a 1 inch crevice about an arms length or more like a mouth drinking in the river flow. I popped out a small gold nugget before I ran out of air. But there is Gold in that crevice! God lifted me out. I had panicked and failed to release the weight belts. I had to breath in water to my lungs and cross back and go up. the battery ran out and the partner that I was with did not pay any attention. When I got out of the river, I threw myself over a rock belly first. My partner came over without a word and grabbed the Sniffter bottle and left me to puke. He must of took what I put into the bottle. Our friendship is at an end. This man I knew from High School days has changed into a gold obsessed, dangerous man. He never once had expressed any empathy for nearly drowning. Everything around me was 50% darker after climbing out....but I know God pulled me up as I called out and asked for his help. I was sinking back down and there is no other explanation. Pray for my friend.... he had the equipment but lacked some essential pieces. I lacked caution and put my trust in him instead of God. I will never forget this experience. I learned so much. Thanks for sharing your experiences Gary! Much appreciated.

      For me, I love the adventure and the mountains. The gold is a plus, but not the reason. The days I find little or no gold are just as good memories. Some of my best trips were with my kids and we came home with no gold ( to busy goofing around). Good partners are hard to come by, that's why when you find one, you work to keep them. Thanks - Gary

    Hey Gary - just re-watched this, as I love how you went for it with the chopper! And just a question: you said that you felt the bedrock wasn’t holding onto the gold because it was too soft, but it sure did hold the lead! Sure is a puzzler to me, because you did find nice gold downstream! Thanks again for your awesome videos!!! 👍

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  Рік тому +1

      To get a buildup of gold it takes several hundred years, each flood puts a little more in the crevice. The bedrock has to be hard enough to last without being worn down. Lead is new to the river and there is a lot of it, so it is much easier to find.

    Hi Gary.... Do you always use the same guy for the Helicoptor Taxi?... That was really neat to see the coptor transporting the equipment to where you needed it and I'm glad you had some underwater footage of what it looked like down there.

    Hey Gary you had me laughing right from the start. The comment about the 97 flood was pretty funny. Thanks for making such informative and interesting videos. I really enjoy them. Although I live down in SoCal I do make it up your way at least once each year to spend a week on the river looking for gold. I was just up there a couple weeks ago and I went armed with information I gleaned from watching you and also brought along one of your 12" Crevice tools you sell (love it). This was by far the best year I've had finding gold and I attribute it to the nuggets of info you share like how the read a river and what to look for. Your videos have helped make me a better prospector. You mentioned in this video that the area you were at had produced nuggets in the 1 ounce range at on time. What is the biggest nugget you have found?

    11:00 minute mark...there wasn't bedrock to hold the gravel (and gold)...how deep is the soft point in the hole? Shouldn't we be able to sump the material (and hopefully gold) out of the hole?

    I was just out yesterday myself busting up bedrock cracks with my new 18" gad pry bar which made easier work out of busting up bedrock cracks and using one of those long crevice tools like you got works just great !!! I'm amazed at how much material is trapped in between the bedrock cracks especially the clay like substance material that clings on to that bedrock itself !!! I seem to find small gold while doing this and maybe as I continue to take down the bedrock slabs itself I might get into some larger gold who knows !!!

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  6 років тому +1

      Gold will work it's way as far down as possible. That's why its so important to get down to and clean the very bottom of the crevice. Thanks - Gary

    • @chimpchowder5774
      @chimpchowder5774 5 років тому

      When I find a piece or 2 in the bedrock, it's time to break out the hammer and chisel!!! Because there is always more in the very bottom! I recall some cracks having puddles of gold in the very bottom! That's also where surprisingly the bigger nuggets hold out too! 3-5" deep is average for a 1/8"wide crack and some bigger nuggets I have retreived almost a foot into the bedrock! Be sure you take the longest thinst chisel and a long thin #1 screw driver. Best if luck!

      I don't think anyone knows what the mining laws are now, including the people that enforce them. I think you can, I still do! I think as long as you are responsible about where you dig and what you do with the muddy water and tailings, you will be fine. Thanks - Gary

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  6 років тому

      I send most of my gold to a refiner, they refine it and send me a check. I put the check into my Roth IRA. The nuggets, I sell to a jewelry shop, I get a much better price for the nuggets. It all ends up in retirement. My hope is some day to use the money I received for my gold to retire and spend more time finding gold. Its like the great circle of life! Thanks - Gary

    Great vid Gary, I have a dumb question but where does all the lead come from, I'm a flat lander city dweller, my second question what would you buy for a underwater metal detector. Looking forward to your upcoming vids.

    • @TwoToes
      @TwoToes  6 років тому

      The lead comes from people shooting in the water, fishing weights and the early miners. The early miners used lead for a lot of things. All the tin cans were soldered with lead. A lot of the pipes were lead, a lot of the machinery used lead. It was cheep and it melts around 400 degrees, a temperature easily reached with a camp fire. I have been unable to find a metal detector that is made for underwater use and is worth a darn on finding gold. Thanks - Gary

    You are my hero!!
    Its so cool watching you go on adventures!!
    I only get to go out once in awhile.
    I never find anything but im gonna keep looking. I cant wait for the day when i can finally see gold in the pan! Even i tiny speck would make my day!
    I live in upstate N.Y. and this place is void of gold. But i still go out and look anyway! Hopefully the good lord will bless me one day with a good spot!
    I been at this since December of last year!
    I try to get my son to go but he's not into it just yet. He's only 8 but if he is like his old man he will be in his way to looking for treasure himself when he gets older.
    I dont do it thinking im gonna get rich because i know that's not gonna happen here in Upstate.
    I have a creek behind my house and its nothing but quartz. I looks like a vain got broke up and now the bottom of the creek is nothing but quartz.
    Do you think i should give it another look?
    If you would like some Quartz to crush i can send you some!!
    There is tons upon tons back there.
    Thank you for all you do!!
    I look forward to seeing your videos!!
    Happy gold hunting and i cant wait to see the next video!!
    God Bless you and your son!!

      You need to find a location where gold has been found. Then plan a short prospecting vacation. When I was a kid my grandfather had a mining claim. It was about a 5 hour drive to get there. As a kid I didn't do any mining, I was to busy running around and playing in the creek. I think those day are what sparked my love of the hills. Thanks and good luck!

    WOW Gary, you did great! I saw it in your face when you started to show the end result of the trip. You did accomplish what you set out to do. You found out the river changed, and all the goodies that probably were at the bottom of the falls are now flushed out and down river around that bend, 50 yards away like you found out. Ya, I'd go back there again for sure if i could! Especially after finding what you did. I think it probably paid for the Heli fuel at least. but I'm really glad you finally found some nice bigger gold this time. keep on trying and I will to. Jeff T. So Cal.
