LSH is my all time favorite super group! Love the many characters and super powers and home planets.. Just waiting for an omnibus with the stories from the 1970s. Cara Bates, Mike Grell and many more
I am a huge LoSH fan. As I have said elsewhere my first American comic was Adventure #247 (Legion origin - I wish I still had but my 5 yo self hadn't started looking after his comics then). Loved it all. However, I unlike many old time fans I loved the 5 years later run. Probably my favourite run after its heyday, - the Jim Shooter stuff, it was an exciting time to be a pre-teen/teen reader. The role call at the beginning, the vastness of space, future tech and great action. LoSH was DC's biggest selling title at one time. Many SF authors wrote for the book. Many artistss like Grell and Cockrum worked on the book (Nightcrawler was initially a concept for the Legion before Cockrum convertrd the character for the X-Men. I feel sorry for the people today who don't get it". The trouble is many of the ideas and cconcepts that ffirst appeared in LoSH are now staples of comics. Legion to a modern audience can appear dated, but in fact it was ahead of its time. We need MORE LoSH omnis. Obviously I have this Omni on pre-order.
My favorite Legion run, can't wait to get my copy. Still think it's a little funny the omni covers feature the SW6 Legionnaires but oh well, it is sort of thematic, just grateful these were collected in omnibus format. Hope DC eventually collects the '84 baxter series and the Archie Legion in omnis someday as well. Thanks, Omar! Great video as always.
Another great review from someone who isn't a long-time Legion fan from myself. I've only just found your channel and after watching your first 5YL Omni review and this one, you have certainly earned a subscription and a share. Thank you!
I'm kinda hoping for some Bronze Age Legion to be released in Omnibus format. I'm only 33, but I grew up reading that stuff because my dad was still collecting back issues at the time. Those are some great comics, imo.
LONG LIVE THE LEGION!!! NEED more Legion omnis Edit: Legionnaires volume 1 and 2 do exist, they collect the post zero hour version of the team so issues of Legionnaires and Legion of Super-Heroes. The line got CANNED like Kyle Rayner’s trades right before a dope as hell storyline Emerald Vi. There’s nothing collected from Legionnaires volume 2 until the first two volumes of the DNA run (WHICH ALSO ONLY LASTED 2 VOLUMES AND WERE CANCELLED)
Yeah it's a crime, I'm looking to scoop up all the floppies to fill in all the gaps between the trades and do some custom binds all the way through "The Legion."
I had no prior exposure to LSH or attachment to any mythos back when Five Years Later started, so any convoluted stuff that happened was just part of what made it interesting to me at the time. Not having any idea about the Superboy stuff until much later, I couldn’t be salty about it I guess. It was one of my most anticipated reads every month, including when Legionnaires came out. I remember feeling a little in the dark not knowing anything about L.E.G.I.O.N., but honestly it wasn’t important.
No sir, I would absolutely love to have that series as an omni. I'd throw in R.E.B.E.L.S. too. An Invasion omni would be cool also, since it all started there.
Legionnaires was one og f my favourite titles and when it started to interact with losh and had the week/year number of the cover in the circle in the style of superman and batman and it made following the really easy. Waiting for my to be delivered later this week. I do hope this will make DC think about releasing the post zero hour stories as well as giving the legion some love from the bronze/Cooper era
Honestly, I thought there was NO WAY they were going to release vol 2. When it finally popped up for order, my attitude was a tentative; "I'll believe it when I see it." I honestly can't believe it wasn't delayed a couple more years! So glad I was wrong!
Anyone who buys the collected editions learns why gutters are so valuable to the artist. Gutters mean you won't lose huge sections of the page to the middle crease or edge trimming. I believe creative artists can make a double page spread work by splitting the drawing in half on putting gutters on both sides. Picture won't be lost to the middle crease.
I got volume 1 just because of the design of the book. The star field is beautiful, even the table of content is pretty looking. It almost didn't matter if the book was good or bad (i know some people hate it), but i liked it a lot. Can't wait to get volume 2
I enjoyed LSH when I was young but lost touch with them over the years with various reboots. I’ll keep my money for other DC omnis but some great creators involved with this book and yes that spine design will definitely stand out on the shelf! Thanks Omar!
The problem I have with the DC hardcover collections is that they tend to skimp on the quality of the paper. It should be heavy and glossy paper to make the colors pop and that's not what they provide.
The problem is that you can never trust DC -.-' I didn't get the first volume and now is oop. Same goes for volume slike Before the Great Darkness saga. Ho to see a reprint! Still waiting for JLI vol 3! Still, would be nice to see those big omnis in tpb (but 'till the end, not cancelled after 1-2 issues...)
I’m a super fan of 9-panel stuff like Watchmen, Batman Three Jokers and a lot of Tom King’s stuff. I have my copy waiting for me at my LCS, can’t wait to pick it up.
Got my copy delivered early last week. Great to have this material now. Really want DC To collect the previous volume of legion of the super heroes that ends in the magic wars. DC releases are so random and never in order, so annoying.
That's what I keep hoping for. I've got the Superboy & the Legion, Before Darkness, Great Darkness, and Curse HCs, along with the Five Years Later omnis, but the '84 series (as well as the rest of the Tales book) feels like a huge missing piece now. Hope they collect all of that sometime soon, preferably in omnis.
@@Krypton_Ken yeah I don’t know why DC do it like this at all. Vol 3 is also widely considered the best run of the series so of course DC would leave it uncollected. I wish they had someone like David Gabriel there to sort the department out, they leave so much money on the table.
Great review as always, I haven’t read the first Omni but this one peaked my interest. Can Omar or anyone answer Is it possible to read this without toooo much misunderstanding? (The first one looks like it’s out of print)
Legion Of Superheroes #62 and beyond are part of the Legionnaires collected volumes which are the Post Zero-Hour Legion which is a different continuity.
So, this is 90s stuff? I thought it had something to do with the “One Year Later” stunt after Infinite Crisis! Now I’m actually interested, as I love post-Crisis DC. And does this mean that the 60s X-Men coming to the present was copied from this Legion run?
Oh Bugger, I didn't realise that this was LE.G.I.O.N. I'd never read LoS before L.EG.I.O.N. came out and I enjoyed it, But then life happened and I went away from comics for a long while, But now I'm back and I had L.EG.I.O.N. on my wish list, so I missed volume 1 not realising, and now I find out that L.EG.I.O.N. is in this, and of course I'd have to sell my kidney to buy it now. So do I buy this and hope they reprint Vol.1?
Oh crumbs, I'm going senile, but gimmee a break it was 30 years since I last read this. I got LoS and L.E.G.I.O.N mixed up, and possibly Legion '94. it is indeed LoS 5 years later that I want toi read, fingers crossed they re-release Vol 1 soon. I'm going to go lie down in a dark room.
@@OrangeGeemer rip I ordered it the same day you sent this. I thought delivery was taking long but I got an email saying they don’t have any in stock. The website still lists it as available.
I grew up in the 1960s and I could read by 1964. Legion of Super Heroes was my absolute favorite Comic even with Marvel stealing me away. I was a faithful reader until the end of Adventure and then I was very happy when the Legion returned! Ironically, it was 5 years later that drove me away from the Legion. I didn't like the story and I absolutely hated the art. Except for the Superman crossover I have not gone back.
I would love to get some more DC omnibus.. Really hoping they do a Kyle rayner omni and tim Drake Robin series.

Why isn’t Vol 3 of the series available (5 years later being Vol 4)
Hey man. Awesome vids! Would you tell us when ASM Omnibus vol 4 reprints again? Prices high and hard to find.
No word on ASM 4 yet.
Is there material for a Vol 3?? I remember the Five Years Later ends with Zero Hour, that would make this vol 2 the last volume.
ahh you mention it on 15:43, the following issues post Zero Houre would be Mark Waid Vol 1.
Some more Jonah Hex omnis would be stellar

Still no info reg. Marvel and Conan? Been a long time now.
@Joe Kelsey What do you mean wait for then after maybe? That he will do a video about it? Or that King Conan 6 is the last print?

Now finally all the complaining about DC's mismatching omnis can end.
DC's spine too big ... Marvel's spines too small ... 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I pity DC and its convoluted history and continuity....
All that thing about no Superboy was stupid. What a disaster.
There was a reason.
Legionnaires disease lol
I am glad people are happy for this. However in my opinion, DC has SO much more better titles they could make into an omnibus.
Everything after they left Adventure Comics was a disaster.
Seriously? This former tree must cost well over a cnote and you don't want to spoil the 30 year old stories that have been retconned more than once?
