Yeah some of those classic comic stories in general hold a place in my hear because they are so goofy and hilarious. Personal favorite of mine is Amazing Spider-Man issue 4 where he encounters aliens and he’s just so matter of fact about making first contact with aliens, it’s just a bonkers issue. The Luke Cage issue you’re referring to is another good example of that.
This really takes me back. There’s a reason why guys my age (late 50s/early 60s) love Luke Cage, and it’s down to the distilled awesome of this series. This blew our minds back in the day. It somehow felt more real than other superhero books, despite the silly shenanigans going on. I love this, Quentin Tarantino loves this, Nicolas Coppola loves it so much he changed his name to Nic Cage.
Man! This is awesome to see! I hope this means we’ll get an Epic Vol. 2 soon so that it leads directly into the Power Man & Iron Fists epics so that we can then have the entirety of those early Luke Cage years complete!
Horrible. At least it's a stand alone book, not like Amazing or F4 where they suddenly changed dress mid-series. That's why I bought it, while I stopped buying Amazing and other classic Omnis. Well, it's terrible to look at on my shelves nonetheless. Why they are not willing to release a variant DM cover with the old, cool big font is beyond me. Maybe they fear what people would pick up given the choice? 😈
Pre-ordered this to check it out for the first time. I remember a Milestone documentary where Dwayne McDuffy says how much he loved Luke Cage until his dad pointed out he is a hero for HIRE.

Some of that artwork looks really cool. If didn't find 70's writing so hit-or-miss, this'd probably be an automatic buy. As it is.....we'll see. Maybe it'll end up being a spur-of-the-moment buy, like my recent Deadly Hands of Kung Fu purchase....
Never dawned on me before when I read the epic collection, but this is remarkably similar to the plot of Payback with Mel Gibson, and his quest to take back the few thousand owed him by the Outfit while they’re all shocked that’s all he wants.
I like the Noto cover for this one since it’s not a volume one. If it were a volume one I’d go with a classic cover. Slight disappointment that they don’t have the wrap around cover art especially since it’s seems to be a one off omnibus. But none the less I’m very excited for this book! I hope they print the classic Power Man and Iron Fist books although I already have the Epics.
I prefer the general book market covers. We get the regular comic book covers inside anyway. The new covers are designed for the superior printing that is available now. The black and white magazine covers look good on an omnibus as they are paintings but for omnibuses of standard comics I prefer the new covers.
That is a nice looking book! The DM variant is one of my all time favourite covers, and I actually like the board design with just the logo on the front. I also like the growing list of creators on the spine even if the text is so small. Looking forward to adding this to the bookshelf. (Shame Marvel didn’t make this a December release then it really would have been a Sweet Christmas!)
Can’t wait for my preorder to arrive. Marvel has always been at its best when taking risks. Noto cover is dope AF but I went with the DM. That Romita Sr. cover is iconic.

This book is cool but I'm hoping to see vol 2 of the Epic Collection sometime soon. With the fourth book of Power Man & Iron Fist coming out in the autumn, Luke Cage epic 2 would be the last book they need to make to complete the collection
I hate the small font on the dust jackets! I can't say it enough. I am not the only one either. I hope Marvel is aware. I dread buying these older titles because of it. To be honest I have passed on some of the older title because I don't want to look at that small font. If I knew how to do custom dust jackets maybe, but I don't and I shouldn't have to in order to be happy with me purchase. Marvel CHANGE THAT FONT!
I'm passing on all tiny font Omnis too. I've bought this one because it's a one off issue, like Savage She-Hulk. They're horrible on the shelves though. Really ugly. They make 2, oftentimes 3 variants for each Omni, why they can't reserve one for the classic, great-looking style and let the fans decide what they like best?
Being a big fan of Power Man and having chosen his actor name in homage to the character, I truly wonder if Nic Cage will be picking up this Omnibus…. 🧐 Sweet Christmas, haha

I was weighing buying this book, but after learning it was "edited for content" by some woke editor at Marvel I am taking a pass. That word "schvartze" is simply the Yiddish word for black (like negro is Spanish for black). I remember the late Jewish comedian Jackie Mason got canceled decades ago for using the term, which is where I first learned of it. It's sad that Marvel is altering/censoring their books for the Omnis, which should be dedicated to preserving these classic comics exactly as they were printed, snowflake sensitivities be damned. I already got burned on the bowdlerized New Mutants omni. And DC did it as well with Golden Age Wonder Woman. Today's comics boast about their edginess and grittiness, but 40 and 50-year-old comics are a bridge too far and beyond the pale? That said, thank you for the comprehensive and always engaging and entertaining overview, Omar!
Absolutely untrue. It is/was very much a slur akin to the N word. I grew up with jewish friends and heard that word used and had it explained to me at the time as being the jewish version of the N word. As for it being changed in this volume, the story is the writer requested it be changed since he didn't understand the nature of the word when he wrote it and wanted his mistake to be corrected. It wasn't "some woke editor at Marvel" as you stated

I love George Tuska's style. He is my favourite artist on Iron Man- with Gene Colan a close second. I also liked his short run on Sub Mariner.
