I know the omnibus collectors are hoping for one, but I'm just happy to have these issues collected for a seamless reading experience. I'm biased to matte paper for stuff that came out in newsprint, but maybe that will happen in the eventual omnibus!
Finally!! Someone ! Ur absolutely right man ! Omnibuses are damn hard to handle and damner expensive . Sides a series of ohcs look much better on the shelf than a single omni
Just seeing these two volumes together makes me wish that both Dark Knight Detective and Caved Crusader were both collected in chronological order together in OHC's, Omnibu's. Heck I would even take a standard size Hardcover like these to have them all together. A man can dream though...a man could dream.
Putting the trade on the shelf next to its predecessor is the same feeling I use to get when filling holes in my comic book collection. So hard for me to get these because I already have this run in my comic book collection but it is John Byrne.
Thanks for the review Omar, fantasctic as usual. I love Byrne´s Superman, it was my entry to Superman´s universe back on the 90´s when i started read comics.
Sold! Bought it today! Awesome overview Omar! I agree glossy paper would be nice. I’m into this title completely and will take it any way I can get it. I really like your new finish move of putting the book in its new home. Gives me the happy positive feels like Mr Rogers. I do the same when my books hauls arrive. It feels so awesome! Love it!
I prefer matte paper for artwork that has flat colors and glossy for artwork with more dynamic coloring. It upgrades, yet preserves the idea that it's an older piece of work.
Ordered this today. Personally I like this matte paper. Sometimes the glossy stuff reflects light too much for my tastes. I'd rather get this series this way than not at all. Plus matches up great next to the Booster Gold HCs. DC needs to make some Tim Drake Robin HC/Omnis.
Another great overview. Thank you for all the work you put into this videos. Damn, you are going to need a second basement pretty soon. Hope all is well with you and your family. I hope your father is doing well. Take care brother.
Currently reading volume 1 right now and I remember some of these being printed in the UK's London Edition/ Fleetway Superman featuring Justice League reprints (specifically the Big Baroda/ Mister Miracle storyline).
Thanks Omar, I have the 9 tp's but I'm still getting these in the hope that they go further than the trades maybe to the end of death and return or further.
Got to agree, John Bryne's superman is a great starting point, and such a shame he left after about 18 months. Byrne's run along with the mutli-part story telling era of the 90's which had a sheild on the cover with the week number are my favourite. Such a shame they don't do it today.
Another great review I picked this up (just like you) as I know we are funding our future MOS Omnibus :D So far so good on this series at least they look pretty consistent and uniform in look and collect things nicely. Happy they are coming out pretty quick as well. thanks again!
For the time being, I'm not buying these, Not simply because I'm holding out for an omnibus (although that's part of it), but mainly because I have to be pretty selective right now. I just order Captain America Vol 1 by Brubaker and New Teen Titans Omnibus Vol 5. Hope these Man of Steel collections do well to encourage an eventual omnibus. That said, those spines look so clean that I'm contemplating these.
I really hope that in the near future, DC does the same thing for Batman, where we get both Detective Comics and the Batman solo series in chronological order in hardcover.
I have it ordered and can not wait. This is my favorite superman run. Glued binding sucks but what do you do when DC is only doing a HC not an omnibus. DC decisions are just terrible lately. Here's hoping they will improve soon.
The 'Metropolis 600 miles' short story is included, which it wasn't in the TPBs!! BTW, how's the John Byrne interview coming up?? Remember: I want you to be the 2nd most happy guy in this community! 😆
@@NearMintCondition so it has been spoken, so shall it be. Everything should be Omni; singles, trades, OHC, Omni, Library, the great progression of things.
Glued-binding, standard size hardcovers with inconsistent spine designs (maybe)? I DO NOT CARE BUT WILL BUY! I just love that DC is releasing this for old and new readers to enjoy. God bless you Omar and fingers crossed DC will keep making these hardcovers. One day we'll get our wish come true and see an omnibus collected.
I'm very greatful to have these coming out, but can they please leave the spines alone? O well, im just glad to have the books. Thanks again dude! You are awesome!
Oh man, I can't wait to get my copy! I preordered with ToW. Over the summer I did purchase all the single issues in the event that DC doesn't finish collecting everything. Glad to see that the second volume actually came out! Fingers crossed they finish these hardcover collections!
Thanks, Omar! Great review. Strange design on those spines on the dust jackets; not a fan. Though seems consistent with the ones on the new Flash by Geoff Johns omnis.
We need that omnibus!! Going back and forth but DC is pretty unpredictable with releases. Thinking of Snyder Batman vol 2 and hopeful for solicits of Absolute Swamp Thing vol 3. I've read Byrne's Sensational She Hulk which really was fun and remember picking up trades from my library to jump into this run after enjoying Lois and Clark and the animated series can't go wrong but man if they would do Absolute format just like you mentioned in your recent double dip video I may have no choice but to upgrade.
Thanks for the brilliant overview. I've been looking to purchase Superman stories set after crisis on infinite earths but prior to Exile. This series fits the bill.
Damn, glad I’m getting these before they get out of print. Recently looked up the Dark Knight Detective/Caped Crusaders, and most are OOP (the ones I need ofc). At least I have volume 1 of both I guess
I'm interested in this run, but the small collection + standard size/glued binding is just not enough of a draw for me. I'll hold out for an omni, or at least an oversize HD. Love that Byrne art though.
Hi Omar, I have this coming next week, I love this stuff, I haven’t read exile omni yet, I’m waiting to read these first. Thanks for another great overview mate 😊
Loving that enthusiasm for Big Barda! That's why I feel so much stronger about Kirby's 4th World than Eternals. So much great stuff came out of that explosion of ideas ... Mr. Miracle and Big Barda really should be DC's Beyonce and Jay-Z :-) Some day you should do a 4th World Reading order, covering said power couple, but also the likes of Orion and such.
I love the Paper used for volume 1 and 2, and the size of these editions. It automatically transports me back in time. Just flipping the pages and the sound they make is music to my ears. Using glossy paper for this material would have been an anachronistic choice at odds with the material and the content creators. That’s just my opinion.
I would've thought that they will fill the hardcovers with the "World of..." miniseries. At least, I would love to have them alongside the other series.
4 роки тому+1
mix is pit lik :) read together. I'm looking forward to this.
I can’t help but notice that the new V2 has some WAVY pages... like pages that suck up all the moisture in a room like a desiccant because the paper is so cheap... Paper looks pretty cheap just from this vid...
When I saw volume 1, the paper quality looks whiter and fresher then the standard DC trade paperback paper. Just my imagination? Most of the older DC paperbacks,, the paper quality is truly shoddy and the colors come out dull and lifeless. Best example I can think of is the Our Worlds at War book, or the original Batman no man's land books. MoS v1 looks way better than those books I mentioned.
Is this "matte paper" the same one DC used on the first Crisis on Infinite Earths Deluxe Edition (not the current one) and on on the Y The Last Man and Scalped Deluxes? If so, not too bad... (though I'd still prefer glossy in this case)
Great overview like always. I just wish that you would have mentioned the similarities of Superman 8, and the Fantastic Four 249 covers. But that's nitpicking. Overall great job like always 👍😁
Nice review, pity that DC went cheap on the binding and paper quality, one day they might learn. I like the way you slide the book into your bookcase in the relevant spot, my OCD approves 😀
Was hoping you might review the Kryptonite Nevermore book. Am curious to see the new colouring. Plus I want your opinion on the story! (I am passing on this particular series of Superman. But I picked up new Essential Judge Dredd Apocalypse War book this week!)
I have those stories in a kind of tpb. Around 40s. Omar, in your opinion, how many of these HC are going to be? I like to get the stories I liked the most in english/original, so I'm really thinking to get these ones.
Much prefer these sized hardcovers. Wish DC had stuck with their original plan for this style for the Five Years Later Legion. While I have a few omnis, I’m concerned how they will age given the weight of all those pages.
Hey Omar, what do you think? Maybe they will continue this collection 'till the Death of Superman(so after Byrne)! Is it possible? (Even further I think it's likely impossibile)
Loved the first volume! Ordered this today and was thinking of getting the Superman- Kyrptonite Nevermore book that released today too but don’t know much about it and know it’s from a much earlier era. Would you recommend it?
I've got the volume one, and I think that will be on sale (on this part of the world) in two months. I'll get it. And there is the third one coming, in march? I think. Is that true?
Do you think we'll have an omnibus of this? I knew it was supposed to be but it did't happen, but what's really holding me back from ordering these is for the hope we will get an omni lol.
Beautiful book. If only they were oversized. ;) All jokes aside, it’s nice to see DC release these Anyways. Appreciate the overview, good sir! Algorithm gang!
The oldest comic I have is crisis on infinite earths, the trade, and it’s Matt paper, and I think it looks beautiful I think I prefer it for the old comics
35 years later and this is still the best jumping on point for Superman. Long live John Byrne.
I know the omnibus collectors are hoping for one, but I'm just happy to have these issues collected for a seamless reading experience. I'm biased to matte paper for stuff that came out in newsprint, but maybe that will happen in the eventual omnibus!
I know everyone was hoping for an omnibus but I think - after 6 beers - we can all agree - this is also a book.
I don’t like Omnibuses because the size makes it hard to read. This is the perfect collection for me.
Finally!! Someone ! Ur absolutely right man ! Omnibuses are damn hard to handle and damner expensive . Sides a series of ohcs look much better on the shelf than a single omni

Picked up a copy today. I also have a complete set of the TPBs. Love John Bryne’s Superman.

So a hardcover volume 4 would take us all the way to exile omnibus? I can buy four of these. I thought there were going to be six plus.
Another great overview. Thank you for all the work you put into this videos. Damn, you are going to need a second basement pretty soon. Hope all is well with you and your family. I hope your father is doing well. Take care brother.

Another volume out. One step closer to Omnibus. And then, Omar’s nerd life will be complete😎
ok, i'm not the only one waiting for this to become 1 or 2 Omnibus! Thank you Sir! :D
@@punybox I’m also waiting for them. But then I fear that if too many people wait. These might not sell and we never get the Omnis
@@twistedtheorist749 Well that's DC problem with constant solicits & cancellations that alienate the customers and expectations.
I bought this thinking it was an omnibus , I did wonder why is was so cheap. 😩
Still waiting…
