I think onee of the most satisfying and sad stories was when Booster tried to stop Joker from paralyzing Barbara and he goes back to the present absolutely devastated. Then Batman talks to him about how he's "known" who Booster was for years but realized based on the difference in Costume in the pictures from Joker's camera that he hadn't reached that point of his career yet. It was a very heartfelt moment that still managed to be very sorrowful.
This origin feels kinda refreshing. I do like that his starting point is someone who's in the hero department for the money. I imagine that the morality of his ideas are later tackled but still got me intrigued.
I remember one panel when he’s heading into a limo and someone says to him “shake a leg” and he doesn’t understand it’s a saying so he literally shakes his leg to please them.
Strangely, or maybe apropos, growing up i could not find a Booster gold action figure, so i bought an extra Green Lantern at Goodwill and repainted it as Booster. So when i saw the JLU episode where they kept calling him Green Lantern I had a wonderful happy feeling inside LOL.
I really do like the back story for Booster, it's kinda unique, in my opinion, and it has a certain level of complexity to his character and overall personality. Gotta love Booster, honestly.
Booster is entertaining. His origin is unique enough to stand out. That JLU episode captured him perfectly. Skeets is evil, but I’m still here for your robot voice.
One of the superheroes that came out around the time of Booster Gold is the Blue Devil. I thought he was a cool character. He was an actor or stuntman that was wearing a costume for a movie shoot. It somehow got magically merged with him to become his appearance. I'm not sure what truly happened to him. I know at some point he got turned into a literal Blue Devil. I didn't see the issue explaining how though. But I liked the original concept of the character.
Ahhhh back when collecting comics was a true joy and the only reason not to pick a book up was because you didn't like the art. Sigh, I collected pretty much all issues until it was cancelled, loved that book
A lot of reasons but mostly because the original writer stopped writing him and they wanted to make him more serious instead of the fun almost parody comic style. From what I remember I think they killed off most of his supporting cast and made Red Devil a Teen Titan with actual demon powers who absolutely hated Blue Devil and was part of my first ever comic book that turned me off from them all the way back in 2005.
I love the Blue Devil too! His story sounds so cool, and if they upgrade his background by being an actual horror movie actor interpreting the monster, and becoming said monster in real life it would be perfect, along with a lot of movie references and with the comedic style still present
Well, it was that staff he got in his first adventure. If you recall, when he first used it to defeat that demon, it took him over momentarily, though it seemed to pass.
I thought Skeets was supposed to be supportive of Booster. In this, he's kind of cynical. Also, I specifically remember Skeets always calling Booster "sir."
Skeets warms up to him with time, and sometimes, when he scolds him he calls him by his name. Skeets also gets annoyed and jealous, he's a very interesting AI.
I have not see anyone talk about the problem with superman's argument. He says you should not use your powers to become rich and famous, but Clark Kent is a world famous reporter who writes about Superman's exploits.
Just started watching. Pretty cool that you're giving obscure characters the spotlight. A suggestion for three that maybe you could do: Big Barda; Mon-El & The ClanDestine. Think they'll be fun to do.
Can you do more Booster Gold. He’s one of my favorite characters and does not get nearly enough love. His later series with Rip Hunter was actually moving at times. He finally received Batman’s approval. Also, how about a look at the first issues of the Justice League. Just a review of the JLI could be fun.
So good, I’m glad I’ve found some people that love booster too! it’s like that moment in Spiderverse where they all realize there’s more then one spider-person and they’re like “you’re like me” lol
I mostly know Booster from his animated appearances; he's always fun there. I haven't seen much of him in the comics, though. Last thing I read him in was in Action Comics under Jurgens, where he emphasized he was a flawed, but well-meaning character. My personal favorite obscure character is Cassandra Cain. Though as many of the videos on my channel can attest, I don't much care for her retcon.
Jurgens would be the best one to write him. He's the one to create him. Both writing and art. In another comment, I said Jurgens and the artist. Whoops.
There is a very amusing fic on Ao3 called Let's Do The Time Warp (Again). Booster has to save his many times great-grandmother so he doesn't get erased from the time stream. It is very funny, using Booster's 'criminal' past, his being from Gotham, Batman being a know-it-all, historical records being rendered less useful due to name changes and between the jokes, Blue Beetle makes a heart breaking cameo.
All leading up to Crisis, DC at the time introduced a lot of new titles to meld into the new universe: Booster, Blue Beetle, Blue Devil, Arion, Arak, etc. Brave strategy, but a lot of them didn't run for more than a couple years and they were absorbed into other titles/teams. Booster really hit his peak as a member of JLI, especially his friendship with Blue Beetle. I always look forward to anytime he's going to make an appearance.
I doubt you'll read this but a little known character that I used to really love was Ray Terrill, The Ray. There was soo much potential there but it seemed like the story creators weren't sure what to do with him. I'd love to hear your take on him.
I do recall Ray learning how to fly and finding himself miles from home with no idea of which direction he came from or how to get back! How is it all the flying endowed superhero can navigate the earth from great heights, do they all have a built-in GPS sense? I seem to remember reading Ray and have little recollection of the character other than he was a young inexperienced superhero much like Peter Parker.
My favourite moment from Booster Gold, in in animation at least, comes in the ‘Batman: The Brave and The Bold’ episode, called ‘Menace of the Madniks’. Booster has screwed up the current time, by going back to see his best friend Ted Kord, to help him defeat the Madniks right before Ted died, to give him a win against them. So he, Skeets, and Batman go back in time, to right after Booster left, to see what he did, that ended up messing things up. Booster is annoying Batman with a bunch questions about the point they are going back to, and suggests different ones; such as wondering why they don’t just go back to BEFORE he (Booster) went back to see Ted, and stop himself from going in the first place. Batman finally has enough, turns around, and says; “Look: I’m not going to explain the intricacies of time travel, to a man without a library card!” It’s one of my favourite Batman lines of all time. The whole episode is great, actually, and really touching; you get to see how much both Booster, and Batman, miss Ted, and how petty they are, bickering about “which one of them was Ted’s best friend”, and it’s sweet, and adorable, and shows a side of Batman that we don’t always see- same as Booster, who is depicted more superficially, as fame hog, but we see here that he genuinely loves, and misses, his best friend. If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely worth a watch- as is the rest of ‘Batman: The Brave and The Bold’. And Skeets is voiced by Billy West, so what’s not to love!
I loved this character and book right from the beginning. An unusual start for a brand new character and essentially the first new character of the Post Crisis DCU, even though some things hadn't settled down yet such as Superman's reboot. Waiting for his origin until issue #6 is also unique, and even then there's still more mystery, such as if he's from the 25th century, how is it that a Legion Flight Ring and Force Field belt are exhibits in a museum, after all those are artifacts from the 30th century. I also loved the supporting cast as well from Trixie to Dirk Davis, who sadly became a throw away character due to the Millennium event.
Booster's origin actually makes me want to read more about him. I've never encountered any superheroes with similar origins and I find the whole learning how to be a less slimy person arc compelling. I'll definitely be trying some Booster Gold comics in the future.
My favorite obscure characters that I'd LOVE to see you cover are... Marvel - Moondragon, Jocasta, Hellcat, Living Lightning, Firebird, Shamrock. DC - Harbinger, Vibe, Extraño, Catman, Flamebird, Wildcat II.
Really liked these two videos of Booster Gold. Thank you! As for a favorite obscure character, I've had a soft spot for Misfit (Charlotte Radcliffe-Gage). It would definitely be interesting to see what you think of her.
I always kinda like how Booster Gold was perfectly flawed and how hard he had to try at the hero stuff under all the celebrity flash. Especially since he definitely had to try harder than almost any other DC hero
Vampires Kiss is one of my favourite movies. I used to stay up late when I was a kid to see all the movies with the good nudity and violence, and that was one of them. I still love it.
I love the cannon origin covered. I've gotten most of my back story from the shows and later comics. I first met Booster in 'DEATH of Superman'. Still have that trade..
I love Booster Gold. I loved him in JLI and his friendship with Ted. I hope you make more videos Boyt Booster, Ted, and the JLI in the future... or since this is a year old video maybe you already have.
Thank you so much for that blast from thevpast. I loved Booster Gold when i was collecting comics mumble mumble years ago. He was fun to read and i so remember that origin story. Now as for obscure comics. Can you do Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld?
He's a football player from the 23rd century. Jurgens or the artist were probably going with the idea that whatever seems to have made us taller than our ancestors would still be causing our children to be taller. Or maybe Jurgens or the artist are 6-5. That's why Starbrand was tall; he was Jim Shooter with blond hair.
I love the Booster love! Thanks for doing this video. I will say that the credit card would work as it is a very simple thing. No batteries, it is just a mag strip that holds the basic details of the card and its holder. And even into the 90's they only used the cool manual credit card machine that made the imprint of the card number on the receipt which was sent in to the credit card company. So Booster is performing credit card fraud, with the original cardholder getting all the bills.
I love Booster Gold. I too first met him with the Justice League cartoon. I have the entire first run, the first one I collected. Also I like to brag that I got published in the letter page of Booster Gold volume 2 issue 46 (I'm the one from Costa Rica)
I want to hear more about booster Honestly if you had a reading of each comic I’d totally subscribe just to listen to you You’re so funny I’m so glad I came across your channel
Uh taking a course in Superheroes is fired so much here....but I feel like that's what you do for me!! So the ackwardness just hit a new high watching the video!! I love it all the more - as it kinda really puts Booster Gold on a personal level!
The DC universe online game is actually rad as Booster has a collection of ads you can find through exploration which has like a few hours of Booster Gold narration that is extremely on character and hilarious.
Awesome follow up to the first booster video, i discovered him when i used to follow Bart Sear's art (JL: Europe, etc) and i saw a drawing of booster and blue beetle by him then started looking into him. great stuff thank you for the work you're putting in during this tough time i really enjoy these.
Booster so great. Learning about him from your year+ old vid. He has layers of cheese thats so fun. Does feel less archetypical than typical DC heroes, but his motivation seems like it fits DC better than Marvel. (Just throwing it out there but his 80s outfit feels like it could have inspired or ran concurrent with 90s Cyclops.) He a lot of fun.
I have to admit, when I was a teen in the 80s, I thought Booster Gold was a Golden Age character reimagined, like the Charlaton characters or the Shazam family.
Good Origin, fairly original. I'm new to the your youtubeage; if I don't find it in here, I hope you'll do some content on Dynamic Duos - the memorable relationships of super pals. Like Green Lantern and Green Arrow, Blue & Gold, the trinity of Bats/Sups/Wondy, Harley and Ivy, etc.
Happy Birthday to Michael Carter aka Booster Gold his Birth Card 2 of Hearts 💕💕! Go HUG someone today and Merry Christmas ☃️🎄 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!
Booster gold is probably one of My favorite characters looking back at stuff like this origin in particular it only makes me think superman really didn’t consider how much worse booster could’ve been Because by all means he should become a super villain he has prior knowledge of everything that will happen and he took a course on superheroes of this era so he knows all the powers and abilities and exploits and has a time machine so we can just leave before they even get there and they would never be able to find them
5:49 If I were to pencil a run on Booster Gold, I'd change his goggles to gold Elvis Presley glasses. I have some, and silver ones, they're super cool and comfortable.
Yeah, Fitzgerald's character. I like how his backstory fits for his char reservation. Also I know he's not really a secure character. But he's not as popular as most characters. He's had comics and such, and he's had solo series. I love plastic man he's one of the most insane heroes out there
Booster may have been more style than substance at the start, but what style! Always liked him since I first saw him in the Death Of Superman series, and yeah, huge fan of Blue and Gold.
I don't even remember clearly when I first heard of Booster Gold. I think it was while he was looking for help to investigate the death of Blue Beetle. I honestly can't remember in who's book it happened, Power Girl maybe?
I feel so informed. Can you also do a video on all the different Teen Titans being led by different Robins 'cause I've been trying to find things about that and it just led to more confusion
Didn't know he had a later series. I left comics just before that. But it's tied into the New 52. And every attempt to fix the DC universe after Crisis (and including Crisis) just made it worse.
I always think they should make a Booster Gold show now. He is pretty relevant to our times. He is basically an influence and lite grifter, but ultimately it's all for the side of good. I would like a show about this sort of Down on his luck Hero from the future that everyone thinks is a hack. Very similar to Peacemaker, but you can work in more of an angle that Booster does everything for Fame and has to slowly learn to be more selfless. Though if they did this, I obviously need Billy West to voice Skeets!
i may not booster's origin at a character level, but his is well done and really helps to round out the world. too many heroes are good beyond what is normal straight from the get go, and it makes the world seem like that there is plenty of heroes to make the world a better place. it makes real world bad situations less realistic. personally i like spiderman's origin story better, but not everyone can be spiderman (yes i know he is marvel and booster is DC).
Way Cool! Great vid! Fan of Nick Cage... is there no limit to your awesomeness? I want to buy Sasha cereal... I also think you would make an amazing Black Widow for the MCU
I love Booster, he's maybe my favorite DC character. I want them to do a movie and have him played by Ryan Reynolds so we can have a "thanks Green Lantern!" joke.
Apart from some Batman and Superman I didn't really read much DC, Norway wasn't the home for superhero stories the way the US is, but I think I had ONE Justice League issue which just so happened to contain Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. I didn't really like Beetle at all and Booster's story - they were discussing just this issue about his origin and money - I could not realte to, heroes were people like Superman or Spider-man, saving people with no thought of riches or glory, the did so because they wanted to. Still not a big DC fan but if I were I think I could relate to Booster now. With bills, wants and need, who does not want some more money? And he IS still a hero. I get it. ;-)
I am saying this from the perspective of a non-comic reader: They could have added to BOOSTER GOLD's backstory that when he studied superhero history he learned there _was_ a BG in the 20th century, and he realized that it was _him._ So his going back in time to become BG was in a way a self-fulfilling prophecy.
6’5” I have a theory on why this is off to you. Because even in all the shows you mentioned Batman looms over him, well he looms over everyone not named Superman by a lot, according to most sites Batman is only 6’2”.
The 2007 run made his origin much more sympathetic. His mum was dying and his dad forced him to bet on his own game. I'm not sure if I like that retcon, I like this origin.
Lord of War, freaking awesome, and the successors is "ZeroZeroZero" are awesome? It would be awesome, if lord of war, ZeroZeroZero, and MC Mafia, living in the same universe?
I think onee of the most satisfying and sad stories was when Booster tried to stop Joker from paralyzing Barbara and he goes back to the present absolutely devastated.
Then Batman talks to him about how he's "known" who Booster was for years but realized based on the difference in Costume in the pictures from Joker's camera that he hadn't reached that point of his career yet.
It was a very heartfelt moment that still managed to be very sorrowful.
And then they didn't use that for Heroes in Crisis.
But he is devastated because he can't change the event, which makes him realize he can't change Ted's death. :'/
Love Booster, him and Blue Beetle I feel are heavily underrated
I’m reading the late 80’s JLI run, it’s great stuff. I read the first couple issues from the 80’s solo run as well
I love them too. Sometimes I think they would work better in the Marvel Universe
Kevin Alleyne well I think it really depends on who’s writing them and if editorial will give them a break and do what they want
Agreed, KC SUPES
Which blue beetle we talking ?
He wrote those stats himself, so I would take them with a grain of salt.
*Jaw drops* You're right...
He seems like he'd be prone to body image issues, with his lust for stardom
The weight seems too light for his height
He does seem the sort to lie about his height.
Also, he's probably unfamiliar with traditional American measurements.
@@kingofthebis1068 You know, I thought the same, so I put them in a BMI calculator and... he's overweight. FUCK I hate BMI.
There was a period when DC was really focused on humanizing there heroes and I think Booster Gold is one of the best outcomes of that
This origin feels kinda refreshing.
That was mentioned in the issue 1 video she did.
Booster gold is low key the most relatable character in dc comics.
"I want a cereal!" You could totally rock a cereal box! What would the flavors be? Sashaberry Morning? Casually Crunchy?
Booster is entertaining. His origin is unique enough to stand out. That JLU episode captured him perfectly.
Skeets is evil, but I’m still here for your robot voice.

Hey I saw that shade. Revealing that Booster is Rip's son/maybe grandfather just works! Why didn't the CW have Booster on Legends!
I loved this character and book right from the beginning. An unusual start for a brand new character and essentially the first new character of the Post Crisis DCU, even though some things hadn't settled down yet such as Superman's reboot.

The whiplash I got from Dirk being revealed to be a Manhunter was crazy. Disappointing choice
I like to think the people who hired him at the museum knew he was supposed to "steal" the stuff and go back in time.
Booster's origin actually makes me want to read more about him. I've never encountered any superheroes with similar origins and I find the whole learning how to be a less slimy person arc compelling. I'll definitely be trying some Booster Gold comics in the future.

Honestly can this continue it’s so engrossing! Let’s do the entire Booster Gold run please !
I need a lil drone set to follow me, done up as Skeets, so I can cosplay Booster .
Its probably 6'5" with his platform boots lol
He's a football player from the 23rd century. Jurgens or the artist were probably going with the idea that whatever seems to have made us taller than our ancestors would still be causing our children to be taller. Or maybe Jurgens or the artist are 6-5. That's why Starbrand was tall; he was Jim Shooter with blond hair.
Athlete stats are often embellished anyways. It fits.
I used to have these original first run of Booster Gold when they first came out, I wish I still had them.
I love the Booster love! Thanks for doing this video.
I will say that the credit card would work as it is a very simple thing. No batteries, it is just a mag strip that holds the basic details of the card and its holder. I love Booster Gold. I too first met him with the Justice League cartoon. I have the entire first run, the first one I collected. Also I like to brag that I got published in the letter page of Booster Gold volume 2 issue 46 (I'm the one from Costa Rica)
I want to hear more about booster
Honestly if you had a reading of each comic I’d totally subscribe just to listen to you
You’re so funny
I’m so glad I came across your channel
I first discovered Booster in DC's weekly 52 series, and I loved him instantly. If he gets a movie, Owen Wilson is the guy for the role!
I have never enjoyed a pair of videos more than Sasha talking about booster gold

Happy Birthday to Michael Carter aka Booster Gold his Birth Card 2 of Hearts 💕💕! Go HUG someone today and Merry Christmas ☃️🎄 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!
Booster gold is probably one of My favorite characters looking back at stuff like this origin in particular it only makes me think superman really didn’t consider how much worse booster could’ve been Because by all means he should become a super villain he has prior knowledge of everything that will happen and he took a course on superheroes of this era so he knows all the powers and abilities and exploits and has a time machine so we can just leave before they even get there and they would never be able to find them
You do excellent and entertaining videos. Thank you.
5:49 If I were to pencil a run on Booster Gold, I'd change his goggles to gold Elvis Presley glasses. I have some, and silver ones, they're super cool and comfortable.
Skeeves is the best thing about booster gold. I love it so much!
A small breach in adequate on booster’s part jumping straight to the double dog dare
9:22 Blue Beetle reading a girly mag...superheroes are human, too, damn it
I don't even remember clearly when I first heard of Booster Gold. I think it was while he was looking for help to investigate the death of Blue Beetle. I honestly can't remember in who's book it happened, Power Girl maybe?
Yes 6’5 got me too but he was a football player in the futureeeeee
Love the Cage shirt! Really enjoying this channel a lot!
Want this story continuation!!! More Booster and other heroes dynamics!!!!!
That Boost is one of my favorite dc characters
I feel so informed. Can you also do a video on all the different Teen Titans being led by different Robins 'cause I've been trying to find things about that and it just led to more confusion
I know him from Smallville. They put working tech in a museum. They are asking to get robbed.
Favorite is dazzler and squirrel girl.
Booster's 2007 series is what got me into comics so yeah, I definitely love seeing videos about the character/his different books
Didn't know he had a later series. I left comics just before that. But it's tied into the New 52. And every attempt to fix the DC universe after Crisis (and including Crisis) just made it worse.
The first thing I seen was the shirt Vampire’s Kiss. I have to say. Top three Nic Cage movies. Lord of War, Family man, 8mm.
Would love to hear you go deeper into the Booster and Beetle. That's where I first met Booster was for JLI
i may not booster's origin at a character level, but his is well done and really helps to round out the world. too many heroes are good beyond what is normal straight from the get go, and it makes the world seem like that there is plenty of heroes to make the world a better place. it makes real world bad situations less realistic. personally i like spiderman's origin story better, but not everyone can be spiderman (yes i know he is marvel and booster is DC).
I love Booster Gold.
There's just so much potential with his character setup
Way Cool! Great vid! Fan of Nick Cage... is there no limit to your awesomeness? I want to buy Sasha cereal... I also think you would make an amazing Black Widow for the MCU
It’s so great to see your UA-cam rise in subs! Truly deserved. Your channel is a bright spot on a cloudy day of quarantine
I like Booster Gold. He’s in my Top 10.
My favorite obscure DC character is probably Question. It would be great to get a Question video (or 4)!
I can't remember if you have done Blue Devil - but he and Booster Gold are always intertwined in my mind.
That's not just in fiction. As child during the 80's I left the house at noon and wasn't allowed back in until the sun went down during the summer.
I love Booster, he's maybe my favorite DC character.
I want them to do a movie and have him played by Ryan Reynolds so we can have a "thanks Green Lantern!" joke.
The best Skeets's voice over!!
I get it. ;-)
Love your wig! Georgia Bulldogs colors!!
Finally! The most important part of a Casual breakfast! 🖖♾
I am saying this from the perspective of a non-comic reader:
They could have added to BOOSTER GOLD's backstory that when he studied superhero history he learned there _was_ a BG in the 20th century, and he realized that it was _him._ So his going back in time to become BG was in a way a self-fulfilling prophecy.
I love Booster, he more than makes for the theft with every time he saves the world and yet no one will ever know of it.
6’5” I have a theory on why this is off to you. Because even in all the shows you mentioned Batman looms over him, well he looms over everyone not named Superman by a lot, according to most sites Batman is only 6’2”.
My favorite obscure character -- Why, Herbie (Popnecker), of course!
Your channel is blowing up, congrats!
@8:42 why is Superman standing on the edge on the wrong side of that railing
I love cartoon. Three kids and I now and I’ll be watching after their all grown as well. Have you watched the new Ducktales? It’s brilliant.
The 2007 run made his origin much more sympathetic. His mum was dying and his dad forced him to bet on his own game.
I'm not sure if I like that retcon, I like this origin.
I think the only thing here I have a hard time believing is that anyone got a chuckle out of Garfield.
I actually like Booster's backstory it's kinda funny
7:50 the kid looks more like if hydra had a k-12 program
Lord of War, freaking awesome, and the successors is "ZeroZeroZero" are awesome?
It would be awesome, if lord of war, ZeroZeroZero, and MC Mafia, living in the same universe?
Booster essentially Biff'ed his way into his fortune. But slightly less scuzzy.
I was totally hoping that Booster would turn out to be RJ Brand from Legion. I miss that old trouble maker.
