Booster is such a fun character, I loved him in JLI. And boostle is my favourite dc bromance ever. (I may or may not watched whole batman brave and the bold series just for their few appearances, we wil never know...)
Booster's appearance in JLI is how I think of how he truly is. He admitted he came to the past to get rich and famous. But when a hero was needed, he rose to meet the need and saved the day. He got a date with the pretty scientist too.
Booster Gold's decision to protect the timestream, while maintaining that negative self-image of himself has always been my favorite arc for a character. And then, when he tried to prevent Joker from paralyzing Barbara Gordon made me love his interactions with Batman afterward, thus legitimizing another storyline I hated (the first being when he tries to save Beetle.)
I love Booster because he's a jerk with a golden posterior, to borrow your phrasing, and so much more. I like that he ends up being one half of the best comic book duo ever (in my opinion), Booster and Beetle, and that he's a legit hero who is also a legit fool and tool in different ways. He isn't perfect but he remains a hero nonetheless. He is compromised by human foibles, but those compromises do not prevent him from being heroic.
Anytime I think about Booster Gold I instantly think about Ted Kord and instantly start crying. When will their friendship come back in the main DC Timeline!
Booster Gold reminds me of Tiger and Bunny which is essentially "What if every hero was a cashcow" but had very sweet message of "Yeah they may shill a bit for that money, but if they are needed they will risk there lives for others" which is kinda how I feel about Booster. He can be self-centered jerk at times, but he will do the right thing in the end.
For me the quintessential way to depict booster gold is from Justice Leauge Action. In a particular episode it reveals he is super important to the timeline and the reason he seems so useless in other episodes is because he does his job so well.
back when Booster first came out me and my buddy tasked each other to pick a super obscure char. He chose Blue Devil and I took Booster and he's still one of my fav's still even now
Booster Gold is an excellent choice for a character analysis. He’s deeply flawed and relatable... as an adult. As a kid/teen his design and attitude were giant turnoffs. Yay Sasha!
Booster Gold should've been DC's first superhero movie in which they could've set up everything moving forward, establishing other characters, world building and the concepts of time travel; and how one person can make a difference. Booster has a great backstory, zero to hero tale...
I loved Booster when he first came out, but honestly, I loved the comics after the first Crisis. I think DC really did amazing work after they reset everything.
I like Booster Gold, because he reminds me of my life. I had it all, numerous scholarships and a good promising future, but I had thrown it away because of some personal stuff that happened in my family. And, i almost turned to crime to support my family in monetary value. I tried to pick myself up by enrolling in a job training course, even getting a little side job to get enough money for my family, and I was solely focused on that, but I didn't keep in touch with them, and one time when I was talking with them, they didn't want me back home just because of not keeping in touch, so they disowned me. So I share some traits with Booster Gold.
I'm actually a big fan of Booster and his friendship with Blue Beetle and when I learned of Beetle's death (spoilers!) after I had taken a break from comics, my first thought was, "How's Booster dealing with that?" To this day I want a Beetle and Booster buddy comedy TV show or film.
i had a male crop top like that, we called them belly shirts. They became popular because you could wear them under your football pads and no chaffe as much, but still radiate heat from your belly. Also you could have killer abs and those 60s,70s,80s male booty shorts we called athletic shorts (pre michigan fab 5 who popularized baggy shorts in basketball) you could show off. It's weird to call someone baby face, I immediately thought of the infamous murderer Baby Face Nelson. That slang is ancient and that man has come to be synonymous with the term
Some years ago, I was the faculty advisor for a middle school comics club. I brought in all my old comics and basically passed them out to the kids. I had one little guy, who for whatever reason loved Booster Gold. I like him too. I agree with you that 52 was one of the great story arcs of all time. Anyway, towards the end of the year, I decided to go to Comicon (my first time) with my two grown kids. I asked the little guy if I could get anything for him. He asked for anything with Booster Gold. In the end, I couldn’t find a single BG related item. It was the first year that Pop Vynil figures came out, so I got him a Green Lantern (and a Wonder Woman for myself). No Booster Gold stuff at that time, though I did see a cute girl cosplaying Booster Gold. She had a female Blue Beetle friend.
This issue was included in a tie-in for "The Suicide Squad" b/c Blackguard was in it, and it was so Funny I had to read the entire run. Oh my god it was amazing. Loved his arc and how he changed, and also how the world felt like the 80s as understood by some person who's only experience with it was rewatching 80s movies over and over. I would kill for a modern series that kept the 80s setting
LOVE your Jimmy impression - you HAVE to do more in depth stuff with Jimmy now!! And as a request more Booster information on his 52 backstory and his friendship with Blue Beetle.
Ah yes, The greatest hero you’ve never heard of! He’s always been my fave, I actually all of his original run and I have one of the comics signed by Dan Jurgens.
The reason I like Booster Gold is because of the JL unlimited cartoon. The ark you speak of is showcased. He wants to be famous but is made to control the crowd while the big hitters are fighting the big villan. He does save day but one one sees it. Thats what makes him so great. Under the puff he is a good person and can be a hero!
16:04 Gone With the Wind, adjusted for inflation, is still the biggest box office of all time. Maybe that's why they used it instead of Garbage Pail Kids the Movie.
My first exposure to the Gold-man, was with batman the brave and the bold, and I absolutely loved him! I feel like his character really meshed with the tone of the show and he was always a... BLAST 😬, Whenever he showed up
I was introduced to Booster through his episode of Justice League Unlimited and in comics through his series after the 52 event. He is my favorite hero because yes he is all of the negative things but he’s the type of character that shows you can still grow and do great things even if you screw up. 💛
This was one of your best episodes. I laughed so hard and even looked up the problematic word skeets, uh yeah never doing that again. I own this book and can never look at it the same way ever again. Great work. You looked so proud of The Ghostbusters reference.
I absolutely enjoy Booster. I love the irony of his story where yes he came to the last for fame of being a great hero. And then actually becomes the greatest hero, saving reality multiple times, but due to the time travel and resetting of timelines, no one is aware that he did anything
"Learn the idioms of this time," or, the 80s. Being a child of the 80s, the idioms, while still cringey, were accurate. You realize inserting the idioms of 2020 (skeets) makes you as out of time as Booster... I found this funny. Thanks for another great video!
Just found your channel.... The reason Booster didn´t mention Ghostbusters instead of Gone with the Wind is because, with some exceptions, DC (as a Warner Bros. property) will make use of their own licenses. ....and I found this by coinicidence. For instance, I´ll be watching a movie/TV series be it current or from the past and it would stand out to me a DC Comics reference. Especially when there wasn´t that need for it or it was very obscure. Right now I can´t remember the name but I do remember that there was this project of the actress Heather Locklear (I tend to think it was a romantic comedy movie but could very well a TV show appearance...probably Two and Half Men then) where there´s this reference to Superman. And it´s not the Superman reference that threw me off but that she claimed to know that he dated Lana Lang while in High School. That was a very specific reference, coming from a mature woman (the character wasn´t into comics or anything and this was before all the current movies) and out of nowehere. So I checked who was behind it and it was Warner. ...and from there go back and check whenever a DC reference happens. In Gremlins 2 the Batman logo when the batgremlin flies through a wall or that the comics shown in The Lost Boys while in the comic shop are from DC. It´s really cool that they do that but it´s more impressive that it´s not a current thing. I LOVE THAT! It´s like how Warner always bring back actors/actresses from past TV shows or movies to either come back on a recurring role or as guest star in a show. Of course, this is in full display more so in the Arrowverse but this happened before it too. ...but, let´s take Martian Manhunter. How come in Supergirl is father was the voice actor of the same character in the JL TV series and then, when the brother showed up, was also the voice actor who played GL (John Stewart) in the same show. PS You should/could do a video on both these topics. PS1 Yes, in The Big Bang Theory the would reference and even show Marvel stuff. Even having Stan Lee there. But that was different. Not only did the apartments had DC Collectibles but also in the Comic Shop EVERYTHING on display was DC. PS2 I´m a DC guy...yet I even liked that Stan Lee was there. He was a very nice guy all around; even if Marvel isn´t my thing. But he even appeared on interviews of DC/WB stuff. Like the Extras on the DVD/BD of the Tim Burton Batman movie.
I feel like the Metropolis reporters are so harsh because they've been spoiled by having Superman around. So if ever a person gets hit and feels it, they're like "Ohh, he's actually BAD at this...!"
Any hero that takes an energy blast to the balls, does a Skeet double team, has an assistant named Trixxy that makes men apologize to her pussy, is "super progressive" with hot female chauffeurs named Bambi & Sunny, has equal opportunity prime booty representation, goes complete self-insert meta, and can steal Superman's best friend from him is my new all-time favorite - it's BOOSTERIFIC BABYFACE! P.S. That fact this is filled with hilarious double entendres for today written decades ago with a character that doesn't know or get the meaning of phrases is just unbelievable gravy on top of it all.
Eye-opening vid! Booster Gold first happened as I was checking out of reading super hero comics on the regular. And at first glance, everything about him said "tacky '80s creep": Vain, egotistical, selfish, greedy. Like a super-powered version of Charlie Sheen's character from the movie Wall Street or '80s Donald Trump. Or (more recently) Leo DiCaprio from The Wolf of Wall Street, but with less game. Hate those guys. I later saw depictions of him as part of a comedic duo with the Blue Beetle, but this only softened my impression of the character from jerk to buffoon. But I've got to give you this, Sasha: you find the good in people, even in fictional characters of dubious worth. :) Seriously, thanks for walking us through this book--I'd never read it and probably never would have. I think I see where the writer is trying to go, here: The greedy glory-hound is secretly a clueless phony, definitely not cool in the way he pretends to be, is maybe even kind of ... needy? There could be an interesting back story, there, and the makings of an arc. Just ... hope the character gets some therapy, never goes into casinos, beauty contests, real estate, or politics ...
Heya, I think the “baby face” could be the wrestling term for good guy. They just say face now. I think it’s really great to have Blackgaurd use that as an insult for the introduction comic of a new hero.
Always liked the BG character. I've never seen it specified, but had a hunch he was conceived as a douchy sendup of Flash Gordon. Shazam movie shows that DC can balance lighthearted laughs with superhero stakes, so either a solo movie or a Blue & Gold teamup is a home run premise. In an age of reality TV and social media stardom, his story even more plausible than at the time of his debut. And since he's a time traveler, he can be easily integrated into or left out of a greater JL story arc.
I think the line between personal inspiration and self insertion is a bit more obvious than you think. It's all about how much a person takes from their own lives.
MORE BOOSTER GOLD!!! "Gone With The Wind" is an out there pul, though if I am not mistake with inflation it is the highest grossing movie. Well still would've at the time.
I didn’t know what “skeets” meant- other than the sport/hobby of clay pigeon shooting, called “skeet shooting”. Well, it turns out the slang term also involves “shooting”...of a type...just...not with shotguns... You know what, I actually preferred being in the dark on the matter haha. I love the Skeets character in the DC animated shows ‘Justice League Unlimited’, and ‘Batman: The Brave and The Bold’; Billy West does a great job in the role, and really makes you love the character. More Booster Gold content would be superb. I only recently found ‘Casually Comics’ (though I’ve been a fan of Sasha on ‘Top 10 Nerd’ for a good while), but it has quickly become my favourite channel. And this video on Booster Gold is a good example of why I love the content sooooooo damn much!
Booster drew my interest cause he's different from the usual DC or even Marvel characters. Yeah he's a fish out of water but you gotta create drama somehow. Future-guy in the past is at least interesting cause they don't do the usual time travel tropes of butterfly effect that's been done to death. He's quirky and likable as a kinda everyman living his dream.
Booster Gold was character I never paid attention to until that Batman arc where he try to bring back Bruce parents. I decided I didn't like him and Heroes in Crisis didn't help my opinion. So this is a eye opener for me.
I never really gave much thought to Booster, but I admit hearing about his storyline and growth interests me. I shall check him out, also great episode as always.
I love your videos where u introduce us to a character. I got into comics like a year ago and there is no chance for me to read all the comics. Love these kind of videos!
The gift is such an insane story. Like there is no logical reason that Booster thought that would be a good idea. I loved Linkara's review of the story (and the one of Booster's beginning).
I met Booster when I was reading JLA during Bart Sears art run so Booster was hanging out with Blue Beatle so I rather dig him. They were a fun team Blue and Gold.
@@tiagodarkpeasant it is a nice way to soak in nostalgia for an hour or two but without friends and a good guild its gameplay gets real old real quick.
Sasha is a hero from another [redacted]. I have blah to okay relationship with BG (not The Bee Gees that were popular in the 70's and 80's). He has some good story arcs and sometimes he is really trying to be a hero. Every time he makes a mark on the DC universe it gets erased almost immediately, like the writers are afraid that the will write themselves into a corner given BG's origin story.
I love booster gold. He is his own worst enemy and is kinda the time lord, or at least a timelord like story, of the dc universe. I'm surprised no one asked for this sooner.
He was an interesting character when he was introduced. I remember reading the comic when it came out. Yeah, he is something of a jerk who was out for fame and fortune and that was a main driving point for him. But, he did it by putting his life on the line. He didn't become an actor or an athlete and try for fame and fortune that way, but by doing a very dangerous job. So he always gets props from me for that reason alone. Still a money hungry jerk but one who will risk his life for you.
Booster is such a fun character, I loved him in JLI. And boostle is my favourite dc bromance ever. (I may or may not watched whole batman brave and the bold series just for their few appearances, we wil never know...)

"Gone With The Wind" is an out there pul, though if I am not mistake with inflation it is the highest grossing movie. Well still would've at the time.
Whosethe Gold? Booster Gold! Whosethe Gold? Booster Gold!!
Say, theres three definitions. 1) yeet skeet 2) shooting clay pigeons 3) well look it up
I didn’t know what “skeets” meant- other than the sport/hobby of clay pigeon shooting, called “skeet shooting”.
I was introduced to Booster in the excellent tv series Justice League Unlimited(the greatest story never told). I next read him in JLI.
His Justice League episode made me really like that when he had to step up to the plate he could be a great hero.
I really like the last few vids, Booster and Spider Woman (Jessica Drew) are some of my favorites that need all the love they can get!
I never really gave much thought to Booster, but I admit hearing about his storyline and growth interests me. I shall check him out, also great episode as always.
I absolutely loved him for a while, and it's great!
5:06 Ghoulies?...Ghoulies 2?
"Skeets" meant that in the 80's too.
Booster is my absolute favorite. I love superman, but I can’t properly relate. Booster on the other hand lol.
I love your videos where u introduce us to a character. I got into comics like a year ago and there is no chance for me to read all the comics.
Love these kind of videos!
My favorite Booster was Blue and Gold, 80's Justice league.
Hey look it's Green Lantern!
you have made it exciting for me to draw again... jeepers, i draw while listening to you... you are the coolest of the cool!!!
The gift is such an insane story. Like there is no logical reason that Booster thought that would be a good idea. I loved Linkara's review of the story (and the one of Booster's beginning).
The floating robot looked like a clay target ask, skeet.
Wow what do you know, booster gold passed the cake test 😊
When you think about it, Dante's Divine Comedy is just a huge self insert fanfic...
I met Booster when I was reading JLA during Bart Sears art run so Booster was hanging out with Blue Beatle so I rather dig him. They were a fun team Blue and Gold.
He's great, especially when getting trained by his son Rip Hunter mixed with the scenes of him training his son young Rip Hunter. Crazy.
I’m so glad you took the time to acknowledge the butt shot because I feel like they never get the credit that they deserve
Poor Buster. No one ever asks for him. And very few want him. And even fewer know who he is.
Buster Gold . The once and Future meme 😂
Beating Give With the Wind is a BOLD claim.
Never knew of him other than tv\cartoon... Liked the vid...loved the voices
I love booster gold more than any other DC character and I don’t know why.
If superheroes were real, Lois would be like:
"Superman, save me!"
"Cash App me ten bucks first."
It's a bold move to have your hero defeated at the end of the first issues. Imagine if he was a decoy hero and Blackguard was the true hero.
All this talk about booster gold make me want to play DC universe, since he is the narrator/ landscape guide!
i just discovered this game existed
@@tiagodarkpeasant it is a nice way to soak in nostalgia for an hour or two but without friends and a good guild its gameplay gets real old real quick.
@@hppotheprofit4959 that is exactly what i noticed
@@tiagodarkpeasant had this video been five or ten minutes longer i would have reinstalled and played for an hour. oh well, take care
Great voicyng over,just great!
