This film is about drive. It's about the passion and creative drive of Kazunori Yamauchi, the architect behind Gran Turismo's birth and breath-taking fifteen-year evolution. This film will trace his relentless willingness to challenge himself, to hold none of his past achievements sacred, and push beyond the virtual divide in his pursuit of perfection. Through the support of PlayStation, Kaz's journey has forever changed the gaming and automotive landscape and in doing so, has redefined how we perceive the relationship between art, entertainment and culture.

This documentary has increased my loyalty to this franchise.
And not to mention, the Playstation Console.
@@unknownunknowns Like how you added it 1 year after lol
@@niismo. Ok, funny guy.
I love GT and PlayStation alike.
I know it’s 2021, and yes, it is taking a while for GT7 to come out, but I am really patient. We have PS5 but I hope that it comes out when PSVR 2 comes out, so we don’t have VR issues.
What makes GT different, what makes it something no other racing game series could achieve: It has a soul. Everyone who plays this games with joy of racing, really feels how much care, effort and love was taken into these games. That is something I have never felt before and again in every racing game I played. And believe me, I played and still play lot's of racers.
Fluttershy we can see how Kazunori Yamauchi want to give us his love for car. We don't see that in other racing game
Yes, you're right about GT having a soul…
I mean just look at the menu's with the nice background music… Just beautiful!
The way the cars show up in the game!
It's something that the Forza games don't have for example…
and believe me, I also enjoy the Forza games and play them! ;)
@@Kev27RS I absolutely agree, games like Forza in recent years have been taken over by children
@@runner05 Unfortunately
A big example is the awesome background music they create for the menus
He not only changed video games forever, but also car culture around the world.
Amazing movie, this man has so much passion and Gran Turismo is truly one of the best racing games
+UPlayNetwork true that, i played Gt1 Gt2 and Gt3 hundreds and hundreds of hours... Left me a mark.. still listen to Gt2 menu music. Need for speed games dont really leave you a mark, GT is a game made with care and artsmanship
unless they did what they just did
Wwoooaaw
@@bruhmandude555 dude. This is an 8 year old video. And GT7 is still a really awesome game
One of the greatest movies about one of the greatest games.
Amen.
I’ve been watching this documentary for 8 years and hundreds of times, and the film “GranTurismo” was released this morning.
Literally, “time has come”
This game literally changed my life! I've been a mechanic since 1990, a car and race fanatic since birth and still I've learned more about driving, performance, componantry, tuning, physics & dynamics, auto design, styling, photography and car culture from this series than in all previous endeavors! This game is why 90% of us knew what a Skyline was in the 90's!!! This franchise spawns passion and makes you want to learn more and be better within your sector of intrest. How many games can stake that kind of claim? Globally at that! ❤
It's not often that I manage to sit through AND enjoy a documentary... now I get what GT's about--what Kaz is about. Thank you Kaz for letting me be a passenger for this 16 year ride, don't stop it yet.
Julio Garcia how is Kaz?
This game is an Icon in the gaming industry, I grew up with Gran Turismo on the PS1 so this really hit home. This film was great, not only were the persons in the documentary demonstrating their creativity but director of this doc did as well in the way he shot this film & told Kazunori story, nicely done
This guys love (being the game) was what Apple the company meant to Steve Jobs. The guy has this type of passion rarely seen in people now a days and it shows with not only the game but the respect the meetings and admiration from others thats why I love the Gran Turismo franchise
And this is why GT beats all other racing games. The love and passion that goes into this game is amazing.
the best thing is that passion is transmitted to us and further throught us. that's how we keep it going.
In case of realism there ar better sims
And this is why you're wrong. I love GT but their time has come and gone and Forza is the supreme leader now
@@MrXmoda You obviously have NOT played Forza online...only FOOLS can not bring themselves to realise the strengths of each racing game.
@@zodiac909 any racing game online depending o nrules and restrictions will have toxic behavior
KAZ: Pushing the Virtual Divide is less about video games than it is about what a person with a singular focus and passion can accomplish. Whether you are carving surf boards or drifting, perfecting a singular job is a story worth telling. The people that accomplish this love the process, the nitty gritty detail that pushes people away pushes them toward it. The director does an excellent job of maintain that theme throughout the film, instead of focusing on the game or racing aspect. Not only is this film worth watching, but I would recommend non-gaming/racing enthusiasts watch it as well.
Gt7 boys... great time to be a gamer
GT Academy alone proves that the Gran Turismo games are great :) I've played every game since 1997 and I'm still a fan :)
well, then you are betrayed
Go hide yourself troll...
nope, i just can see AND HEAR. Forza owns
Forza owns your ass.. Nothing else you little worthless troll... Now fuck off!!
Forza has better physics, graphics, sound, cars. Cars which not ported from PS2 version and no idiot standard and premium cars. They are all above premium quality :)
I'm surprised there's not more views in the years since this was uploaded, as we know, Granturismo is one of PlayStation main attractions, I guess not everyone who plays it has the same respect and admiration for its creator
I play gran turismo because it offers me the opportunity to experience on a basic level all that the cars in the game have to offer. Before gran turismo, I could only dream of what a zonda c12 is like to drive because I could never drive one, and it was great. Before gran turismo I never understood why the mk1 golf gti was so hyped, but now I know how brilliant it is. Before gran turismo, I thought ferrari was just a brand name that happens to have marketed itself very well over the decades, but now that I've felt the feel and the power of cars like the 250 gto, f40, 288 gto and all the other cars that put ferrari on the map, I have developed huge respect for the brand. I have learned so much about driving from the game, and it has brought me much closer to my highest passion, cars.

Thats why GT is different from all other racing games because this game develop with passion and love cant wait to see GT on PS4 loved the movie soooo much.
When Kaz said it felt like they were letting go of something that belonged to the team.. I felt that.. But the beauty in it is that I remember turning 4yrs old.. My parents took me to toys r us.. And Gran Turismo 1 was on the shelf.. It caught my eye like a shiny treasure.. Mr. Yamauchi brought more than happiness... He brought a passion for cars.. One that stuck with me until today in 2021.. I drive a Lexus GS and seeing him drive off in the LFA almost made me shed a tear.. Thank you Kaz
When i watch Formula 1 and play other racing games, i don't really learn any racing skills and there is no releastic feel. it is just the loud shout of engines when it goes past you. But with Gran Turismo, Kazunori Yamauchi shows the new way of racing and more real life racing than any other, it really change my life afterall. i wish one day i could race together with him. He's remarkable!
It's now 2022 and AGAIN Kazunori Yamauchi and his team has blown the world's mind with Gran Turismo 7!!! Unbelievable experience!!! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯
Spoke too soon, or maybe he did blow our minds in a different way.
never was a fan of racing games, still can't help but appreciate immense passion and ambition when I see it
Gran Turismo is a game that I want to hate. I want to hate it because of boring sounds, repetitive gameplay and other flaws, but I can't. I just can't hate it because of the passion that goes into this game, the driving experience, that feeling you get when you are nailing the turns perfectly and speeding in your favorite car, customising you car to suit your driving style, making it feel like its you car. That is something you just can't hate.

GT Is not a game or a sim...
Its passion...
+ The menu's with the nice background music… Just beautiful!

and I still enjoy Forza games!
Ksam96Trini AMÉN. And when soothing awesome music plays in the background menus..
couldn't agree more, GT is always one of the games I will come back to, due to the fact you have to graft, you have to fight and really try to gain money and better cars, the races can be long but tactical with constant battles through the race (if you have the difficulty where it should be) its something my xbox and forza friends will never understand, its a real shame, but more enjoyment for people like us!
I still watch this documentary and the more I watch it; I play gran turismo almost 24-7. I remember mom and I use to play gran turismo 2 almost everyday lol.
hi buddy ! i know this special GT "EFFECT" brings me to sim-racing in general love it since A-spec AKA GT3 !!!
Who’s watching this now after picking up GT7?
Thank you immensely for posting the full movie.
I admit GT has flaws, but the man himself is really someone to look up to. Passionate, loyal, and keeps his games as best as possible. Huge respect!
Exactly
i have been playing grand torismo since GT2 released in 1999, that's 15 years of immersion in this game, hundreds of hours of gameplay, i can't wait to race with my baby boy when he is old enough, many thanks Mr Yamauchi
Here in 2022 watching this to get ready for Gran Turismo 7!!!
GT will always be on top!
Despite the bad launch, GT7 still a great game. I played almlst all the Gran Turismo games. Kaz gave me a beatifull childhood with his games.
Thanks Kaz!
Probably my favorite documentary of all time. It just brilliantly delves into not just Kazunori, but car culture as a whole.
a testament to digital craftsman shipment that goes beyond the norm and delivered beyond our expectations from day 1.
my mind was blown 23 years ago on PS1 and i've played the game since.
thank you to Kaz, his vision and the team who brought us the world of Gran Turismo.
been a gran turismo fan since '97. love this brand! and believe it or not, playing this simulator has actually saved my life while driving in the real world.
yep, helped me regain control of a sliding car and avoiding what would have been a total wreckage.
see above. hundreds of hours of GT helped me regain control of a sliding car
It also saved my life but in a very different way. In a psychological way.
Time to take GT to a whole other level on PS4 tech Kaz.
***** Sounds good I hope it is major overhaul and not just GT6 with better visuals.
***** There is nothing wrong with the driving physics in GT6. It is way better than any other console game.
So happy it was Sony and not EA who got their hands on him! What a great film for an amazing man. Go Kaz!
Not sure I agree. EA is a great company that has made some of the very best racing video games like the old F1 games.
But if it was EA every VGT would be a $0.99 DLC.
ianiva
But EA also ruined Simcity...and Command & Conquer...and Battlefield...and even the Ultima series. They were voted 'worst company' twice in a row for a reason.
Belmont2500 I have no opinion on those titles. I only know what I've tried. Last one was their UFC game and it's almost excellent. Plus the FIFA series etc
ianiva WRONG
Not that I'm complaining because it's a documentary about father Kazunori Yamauchi giving the world a gift that is the Gran Turismo series but why is this popping into my recommended for no reason. It's been 8 years since this thing has been made.
This is the best video I have ever seen on UA-cam. Nostalgic, and inspiring! My heart nearly exploded.
The microtransactions has decreased my loyalty to this franchise.
dont let it, microtransaction will be there for most new games, specially a sony money hungry title. In the game mico transaction are not forced on you like some other games, you dont have to go through an extra screen to get rid of the transactions. The game is still great, the love for cars is there. Yes classics are expensive and not everyone can buy them, doesnt that make them classics? i feel like if one is looking for easy money and tons of cars forza is the way.
How the great has fallen.
Yeah man, the official feedback is troubling. There's still time.
How is this 8 years old already?! I just came back to it after picking up GT7. Has it really been that long since 6 came out??
Kaz the legend, bringing together and affecting the motorsport, automotive, and video game industries like nobody else. Gran Turismo forever!
Great film, been a fan on the GT series a long time, I don't think any racing game will go close to this truly awesome series :)
You can not put in words the feelings this movie evoque to you if you ever played Gran Turismo. It gives you a sense of understanding of his life and work. But in a very "unequally" way. You MUST watch it. Time fliesby when watching it.
This vid sums up why i prefer Gran Turismo over other Sims, you feel the love they have for cars all throughout their games.
yeah, so much love that they give them awful sound, so much love that they give them no interiors, so much love that they forget to add just about every single relevant car at the moment and instead add yet another Skyline
mikecustoms Yeh cause i forgot that Interiors and car noises make up the MOST important part of a racing game..not the handling or finding and managing the limit of grip...I also forgot that Gt games only come with a Skyline, noo other cars right?
I fail to see the point of your argument.
mikecustoms jealous your favorite racing game gets no love, is ripping you off and noone takes you serious for liking it?! poor boy
Playing Gran Turismo on PS1 was a life changing experience , and after being away from consoles for 3 years I just bought a PS4 and GT Sport and it's even better !!!
How is it that this video was made 8 years ago already??!!
It is still tru today, the guy is truly pushing the limit... Still today...
Amazing work Kaz and PD ! I have been a fan since 1998!
Sony is lucky to have Kaz working for them. I always feel the polish in each GT I play. Keep making them Kaz, Polyphony and Sony. PS4 and Vita games please!
Honestly, I shed manly tears 4 times while watching this movie, especially at the seconds before the end of the film. This is a beautiful movie.
I respect and admire so much passionate people, kazunory is a great man, it's inspiring, beyond gaming.
This difference between Forza and GT is with every new Forza game, features are removed/swapped but in GT, things just get added and added and added
GT has been removing or swapping features as well if you actually pay attention to them. Used car dealership, race qualifications, race modding a car, and the photo travel is getting less and less areas.
xSleek34x Fair point but to me it seems as though Forza 1 has more features than Forza 5 :P
ItzShazam
I'll agree Forza 5 is pretty lacking but ah well seems like everyone is. Just hoping the game industry gets their shit together.
Not entirely true. Though I think we can all agree that Gran Turismo, for the most part has preserved its content. Most specifically the cars and tracks. There are exceptions. The Top Gear Test Track failed to return in GT6, after PD lost the Top Gear licence, and some cars have mysteriously disappeared...
Well where's b spec mode in GT6 then?
Innovation has always been a part of the GT series. Cheers! Let there be many more to come!
Adding this to my "watch later list" for when I got some time later today to watch. Can't wait for a GT Game on PS4! :-)
I wish I could thumb up twice! Mad props to ya Kaz. BTW, this documentary was beautifully put together, the shot, the angle, the footage, the music, the sound of the cars mixed in just at the right time. Good job.
Can't wait for GT7, no other racing game series has quite as much soul in it as GT does.
Excellent work, thank you for your knowledge and passion that brings the real beauty of automobiles to our homes. 👏 bravo
As a car enthusiast and huge Gran turismo fan this was simply amazing. Its incredible how much work and dedication is put into this. Its more then just a video game its where we can show the world what we're made of.
I loved this movie! You wouldn't think time would pass so fast in a documentary, but it was great learning about a man with so much vision. Gran Turismo has truly influenced the world in ways that I could have never imagined when I picked up Gran Turismo 1. I really hope Kaz makes more movies like this in the future.
From a guy who slept under his desk to THIS
Kaz is the best!
Kaz and his passion crew will never live down the standard cars era.
Honestly if your someone who loves the JDM scene or all about low riders or if your a fan of NASCAR and your a fan of formula one this is one of my favorite culture and community that is still growing, it doesn't matter if which Motorsport is better we still have things in common and it would never make a difference if you look the other way because we have the same thoughts and feelings of driving and we even share the same road, so enjoy your speed, sliding, drifting or smooth driving because all of us can have a ride that we will never forget
can't believe al this years has passed so quickly , remember playing gt2 and surprisied of how much cars this game has ,i love al GT's with no exception and i stil own them aswell as a collection
I don't even know what to say about this document film other than.... "wow, it's amazing...."
I am seriously hyped right now for GT7. Pushing the virtual divide of the PS4? Yes, please. I hope my brain can take it.

Kaz is the goat. Made the best racing sim franchise and will go back to the series roots with gt7.
watching on my ps4!
Good for you.
Playing it on my PS3!!!
Jorge Luis Maya PS3 !!!!!!!
This is an amazing film, half way through and i'm loving it!
Sony has NO IDEA how lucky they are to have this man working exclusively for them.
I think they do, why else would Kaz stick with them his whole career?
Brilliant documentary. Well done.
This is probably on of my favorite documentary’s cause it makes me feel right at home when I always played gran turismo 1 2 3 and five.
How many car manufactures are going to Forza wanting to make concept sports cars to feature in their game, and actually using that to get support for production?
I know that's right
In a world where it seems like things are just getting put out for entertainment to consume, we just truly have to appreciate that we still have people like Yamauchi. Just a display of sheer passion
watched this on hulu already... pretty good doc
wait so kaz owns a LFA nurburgring edition?
Yes
And some intresting cars in his collection 2 Ford gt 2004, porsche 911 996 gt3 2001 and a wide body Nissan 350z rs
Welp, that was awesome; how come this doesn't have more views? so good.
better help spread the words then
So glad i watched this
Wow ..... This is coming from Sony?? That's pretty amazing, GO SONY!!!!!
I've always wondered why I got that "feeling" while playing GT5, that sublime, surreal connection to something more than the game I was currently playing. There may be prettier, or better sounding simulators, but honestly, when yur in that zone and expressing and feeling the emotion GT evokes, nothing comes close. GT for life.
Kaz Yam Tha Don..GT 5 for Life 👑
Here again after the film, enjoyed both greatly
wow i had no idea Kaz races too :D
Interesting one, always knew that the Kazunori actual cares about the cars and overall driving experience, how it feels like and how each car handles, leaving out all the trash that usually wents into the games such as NFS or forza games which fans are always "Give us the non-realistic cars aslong they sound like never heard in real life whatsoever"
Kaz got my respect
gets recommended after 7 years lol
All respect to Kaz.
Absolutely amazing. It's great to see people in the world who have a drive and passion to really change the world and lives. Kazunori will go down in history.
If you've ever had any interest in Gran Turismo, racing, or even if you just like watching passionate people talk about their dreams, check out KAZ.
I think given the great passion that is involved in making this game, its a shame that their latest GT has so many basic mistakes. I hope they realize this because newer games like Assetto Corsa and Project CARS are going to give GT a type of competition they've never really faced before.
meh. PC only have 60 plus cars and lacking road cars. Gt is all about collecting and driving.
This documentary showed me how much love and passion and detail this man and his team has towards gran turismo.
Kaz is so inspiring. This documentary has just made my respect for everything just grow so much more. All GT7 really needs is soft-body physics, and a sound engine that puts you into a state of being in the car, and not sound like farting hovers.
Side note: The spelled United wrong in the credits, lol.
They are making a Gran Turismo movie now.
amazing.
Thank you for this amazing documentary.
Great documentary! We need more like this from Sony games/devs so we can as a gamer/consumer understand there focus. I own all the GT games and love them all. Since the Logitech gt wheel, this has actually improved my day to day driving believe it or not. Can't wait for the ps4 version because I still want to use my steering wheel while playing racing games.
I usually play rally games, but picked up GT7 last week. Absolutely hooked!! 👍
Kaz saved my life!
Manual transmission practice helped me avoid getting cut in half by a jackknifed semi truck trailer!
Now that's real passion for cars.
Can´t await GT7
me too..
One of the things that saddens me is that, EA hogs the rights to Porsche.
We have RUF:)
Jay Duck RUF is great but we can't get awesome cars like the 911 turbo s, carerra gt, or the 918 spyder. Just to name a few. RUF is great, having both would be even better
***** thats true
***** All cars should be premium and some should be deleted like the 50 different miatas, one from each generation is enough.
Despite everything, RUF has become a household name for many other racing titles. Especially Gran Turismo. If it looks like a Porsche, but has a different badge, it makes it ever more interesting.
All i can say is racing on gran turismo is my therapy i can get into like a zen state just driving a fast car on this game
Kudos to this guy, the man who created such a beautiful racing games since my childhood and now on still play this game to this day.. tq mr.kaz.. arigatogozaimasu..
