I know it’s too soon, but fresh oil within the first couple k miles gives me peace of mind. Oil was black as coal and filter had some flakes, so it did its job. Good call with the red. The slate grey is cool but it seems like everyone has it and the red goes so good with the black and other red accents and that's coming from a guy who prefers blue over red.
My ZR2 has 1700 miles on it and the oil level hasn't changed, if it is using some during breakin, I can't see it on the stick, I also didn't use any oil in my old LM2. I believe the largest factor in oil usage (but not the ONLY possible factor) is proper breakin and heating and fully cooling the engine to greater temps over time to slowly relieve the stresses in the metals from the manufacturing process. The 6.2 is a higher horsepower option with less torque, much worse mileage, and a reasonable chance of lifter failure (still) at some point in it's life. The 3.0 LZ0 is the lower horsepower BUT higher torque choice that doesn't have DFM or lifter failures due to being collapsable, and the MPG's while lower than my LM2 and with DEF usage a little higher, I completely expected these things going from an RST/LM2 to the ZR2/LZ0. I, for one, am not disappointed.

I'm on the fence about getting the max tow on my next truck if available. I do tow once in a while just a 7x14' cargo trailer but not often and I may add a small lift with a bit larger tire.

I didn't mean to say that it wasn't that great, just that it wasn't that expensive and I prefer to do it more often. I grab mine from Amazon or my dealership, typically.
@donmckenzie5027 with diesel vehicles it all depends on you! How often u let tank of fuel sit at or below 1/2tank so it can condensate during warm days cold nights, that will eventually produce some water in bottom of tank over time, and also how many different fuel stations u use. Try to stick with known good stations that constantly get fuel deliveries and u see other diesels buying fuel there all the time. I'd change every other oil change, no matter what.
Sure is an issue at certain times of the day , comes in through the sunroof when open as well . GM made a poor choice on the materials used in the interior .
@@DemonWorks thanks for the info, I figured you’d be the guy to ask for an exact answer. I’m thinking about getting a ppe trans pan (thanks to your video) and install while doing a trans fluid flush
Transmission servicing for this 10 speed auto is a nightmare. No dipstick. No drain plug. Just a plug on the side to add/fill. Definitely a transmission shop or dare I say dealer job. The transmission has to be at a certain temperature for proper level to be checked. And you have got to see where GM put the exhaust crossover pipe 🤷♂️.
Im looking at this truck with that engine combo as an option. Currently i drive a taco but i need more room . Trying to decide between Ford tremor , Zr2 or Tundra
I have the at4x aev amd there is nothing I have ever been in that has a more comfortable ride. You really have to find some gnarly shit to get the thing rocking. I want to put bigger tires...looks like 34's will fit for sure...maybe 35'5, but with the 323, idk if there would be alot of power loss. Red looks good man.
I have a 22 ZR2, stock suspension, I had to clearance a bit behind and in the front to fit a true 35x12.50. I also have different offset wheels, they're a bit wider offset. If I wanted to do it again and make the tires fit without rubbing I think I would try to keep the stock wheels and run a 35 with 1.10.5 or something closer to that, but I wanted those 701 Methods with the beadgrip. I wheel my truck really hard and nothing has broke, fingers crossed.
Do you have the aev bumpers? If so, there is plenty of clearance for bigger tires without having to trim. I just want to get the size right the first time!
I just put a set of 275/60/R20’s on last week with stock GM wheels. I could have went with 285’s but was worrying about the MPG. Looks like I’ve lost about 5MPG going from 265/60’s to 275/60’s ( 2” Lift )
@@2cthetruth nope, the AEV ZR2 wasn't available the first year. And my dealer wants $4300 for just the front bumper which makes me want to puke. I have a front lift that I haven't put on yet because I'm waiting for a custom leaf pack from Deaver so the whole truck is lifted. I carry about 1300lbs of stuff in the back of my truck with my Decked draw system and other tools in the cab. So right now with stock suspension the truck sits perfectly level lol
@@mp5kfisher241 try going with a lighter wheel next time your doing tires, might help, these GM wheels are heavy, my Methods were quite a bit lighter and load rated higher. @@robertsahli9998Fuel gelling is NOT an engine problem. It's a fuel problem that would happen with any diesel it was put in . Run additives or make sure you have seasonally appropriate fuel mix .
I had a MY23 Silverado ZR2 and loved it, but I would have preferred the diesel. I'm with you, it should have had an LT4 but GM must not had wanted to pay the Government tax for mileage as those fines eventually caught up to Dodge and Ram. I liked the 6.2 well enough but I would have preferred the LZ0 had it otherwise been available in MY23. You don't make money off buying and selling this trucks every year so if I were to get out from the 6.2 V8 and into an LZ0 ZR2 in MY24, it was likely going to cost me. (Thanks, GM!) I ordered an equally equipped MY24 ZR2 in silver but before it came in, I found a heavily discounted Ram 2500 Rebel with 6.7 Cummins for like $14k off MSRP and bought it instead. Gave up nice camera rear view mirror and the color HUD, but gained a handful of other obvious things. I figured if I were going to make the move to a diesel, that truck may check all of my boxes and provide a little better value in the long run. Time will tell. I was considering a 2500 HD Silverado ZR2 with the L5P, but you won't beat the fuel economy and cost of ownership of the LZ0. I loved the cameras on the ZR2, particularly when parking and how I could see all four wheels. The ZR2 package was awesome; put that on a Tahoe with the LZ0 and I might trade my wife's Navigator in for one of those.
Both my brother and i took delivery of our AT4's back in 2021 with both steering wheels like that, we were told to drive 1000Km's to let things "settle" then they did an alignment to fix them. So I watched the video with the guy that broke down the 3 L diesel. He said it had 145,000 miles and I’m guessing the reason for engine failure was lack of maintenance and low oil or did you get something different out of it?
Chevy has a MAJOR problem with parts for new vehicles. I have a 2024 Chevy 2500 HD Duramax with a transmission failure. No parts available. Already about 3 weeks into the issue. I am told this could take months to address. 2200 miles on my new truck, haven't towed yet due to several problems. Parts availability is a HUGE issue!
Sure is ! As a GM tech, I live that situation. It’s complete trash after Covid and the uaw strike amplified it even more. Most of us techs are trying hard to make up for the customers lost time in their vehicles and are doing what we can. Hope your transmission gets taken care of soon !
at4 is more like a trail boss. This one has the multimatic shocks, different exhaust setup, different interior colors and material. The AT4x is this truck but with the aev goodies, like a ZR2 Bison.
I wonder how difficult it would be to just remove some of the lowest louvers so that it's open all the time while the rest can open and shut like normal.
nobody will know... but if the vehicle has mechanical issues later on down the road, it's something you may look back at and think that maybe the break in was more important than originally thought.
@@DemonWorksYou may be right. It looks like it's leaking something. Spots look like oil from afar but as you close in it looks like water color on the concrete. Almost like soot with def? I'm not sure but the dealer says there is seapage in front of oil pan. I don't think it's that.
23ish on average. That's with the ZR2... which has heavier and larger wheels than the other trucks. This is my 5th 3.0, I ahve videos on all of them, all optioned differently. What do you have?
I wonder what gears are available currently for the GM as I know in later years that has been commented on that there had been no aftermarket optional gear ratios and I don't know about this truck but I believe it has been where the standard diff vs the max tow option rear diff are physically different and am speculating that even the factory gear options would not interchange. In fact DW, can you find out some info on that for a future video, what options are out there to swap gears if desired, not only if factory 3.73 will fit but if there are even lower geared sets on the market.
Your high country was stock height? Because that is why you may have gotten better fuel mileage since this one since it’s 2 inches taller, not so much the different gearing?
At least your smart enough to unload it before issues come. If you work on them; then your aware of wet belt for oil pump & costly repair. Try keeping one over 150K & see how durable it is?
Can't believe the steering wheel was centered such a way, aligned in at the factory to be that crooked. Even the dealership should have caught that. Sent that truck right back to the factory. That's how the factory learns to get their s*** right. But to the dealer, a sale is a sale and they're desperate for every one.
I just wish Chevy would make a half ton economy style truck with a V8 for less than 30k. It seems like these unaffordable vehicles get a lot of attention but aren't the staple vehicle that brings in the business.
I have a 2023 chevy silverado, sat at the dealership for 12 weeks waiting for a steering rack . GM offered no compensation!! Had to fight to get a pickup truck with a hitch and brake controller as a loaner . GM dosent care you are paying car payments and monthly subscription fees on something you cant use! GM dosent care that you where a loyal customer for 25 years !! GM is junk, ordered a toyota for reliability and the residual value . The ZR2 is okay for 90000 canadian , but not a great truck . If you want a working navigation system , you will need to spend 20 to 30 dollars plus taxes a month on a subscription service . The stero system is weak for a top end trim like this. Fuel milage for the 6.2 with recommended premium fuel is terrible !!! Better of buying a toyota Tundra !!
Good video, love the ZR2 package, especially the suspension. However, I am a Toyota guy who drives a Tundra TRD PRO, and there's just no way I would give up that kind of reliability for a Chevy. Love the idea of the Duramax 3.0, wish Toyota would offer a Diesel in the Tundra. Good luck with your new truck, you are going to need it, lmao.
GM never ceases to amaze. Even on thee highest torm level they still ship them with defects. The steering wheel being that far out has a concern for the electric rack. Sloppiness for the badge and fender flare. Not really good examples for high dollar. Im pickers aren't that deep for one.. or that foolish to let them charge it. I like my 2022 refresh RST 5.3. It fit our budget.
So you have a truck that fits your budget. You came here just to complain. The issues are minimal fixable issues. These are all trucks that come off a factory line. Just like ford or dodge or whoever. You’re the person that wants a handmade truck for no money.
@@traviscrown9189 I guarantee you that they had a lazy azz operator who didn't center the steering wheel during alignment after the truck was driven off the assembly line. That device has a bubble just like a level and it centers itself to virtually make it impossible to F up. It relies on the operator to do his or HER job properly. Most of these operators are high seniority, that being said, some just ain't worth 40 dollars an hour.
23 camaros were a 12k difference from 2SS to ZL1 and the ZL1 gained more options by going to a ZL1, so I don't see why the option couldn't have been made available for $10k.
I think GM is trying to make this truck affordable so they can more mass produce it. Remember when the Raptor came out it had a 5.4 in it. Talk about being underpowered .
@@HazardousRob yes they are more expensive. The cost increase for some better sound damping material as well as the dash for the at4 or Denali to me is worth it. Absolutely! I noticed that when I had a set of ZR2 wheels on my prior truck.
I'd like to know how the mileage is with the new truck Vs the last one with the max Tow? Also do you think the Zr2 would feel better with the larger gears of the max tow package? I'm on the fence about getting the max tow on my next truck if available. I do tow once in a while just a 7x14' cargo trailer but not often and I may add a small lift with a bit larger tire.
Is that Butterfield Park in Herriman, UT? I live up the road in the canyon and just got a twin to your truck in White with 3.0 Duramax. Love the red and your great reviews and honesty.

I didn't mean to say that it wasn't that great, just that it wasn't that expensive and I prefer to do it more often. I grab mine from Amazon or my dealership, typically.
@@DemonWorkshow often do you do your fuel filter changes? My Denali 1500 diesel just turned 4000 miles.
@@DemonWorks gotcha! I was wondering 😂
Thank you for info, I will change soon.I only use Top Tier diesel from Costco.@@kwmiked
I had my front windshield tinted because of the glare off the hood. But its really only at certain times of the day that you might notice it.
Sure is an issue at certain times of the day , comes in through the sunroof when open as well .
GM made a poor choice on the materials used in the interior .
Are all the half ton ZR2s made in Mexico? I've yet to see a ZR2 vin with a 1 or 2. Diesel or Gas. Sweet truck.

@@DemonWorks thanks for the info, I figured you’d be the guy to ask for an exact answer. I’m thinking about getting a ppe trans pan (thanks to your video) and install while doing a trans fluid flush
I agree with you on the engine choice. I LOVE the Duramax don't get me wrong.... But I do agree..
I wanna know why i cant order a ZR2 with a standard bed, but i can order an AT4 with one.
Because GM , why can't we get 3.73 anymore? Or even 3.55s They STUPIT lol
Transmission on this truck, for servicing... is there a drain plug and a fill tube?? Thanks, great video btw...
With all of your 1500’s you have owned with the 3.0L. What has been your average MPG?
typically 23mpg lifetime
So no max tow on this model? Are you missing the rear end gears you had on the max tow?
correct, no max tow with ZR2. I wouldn't mind having the 3.73 gears in this truck but it's not a huge issue.
What are your thoughts on using an amsoil bypass oil filter and VSE duel fuel filter set up?
Haven't seen a direct bolt on oil bypass but I did run the VSE Fuel System Saver on my previous truck. ua-cam.com/video/xwJBZwq2DgU/v-deo.html
Im looking at this truck with that engine combo as an option. Currently i drive a taco but i need more room . Trying to decide between Ford tremor , Zr2 or Tundra
What have you decided for your choice of truck?
I believe you'll need to clearance the rear area towards the cab still regardless of bumper, since I had to do mine, but I also didn't lift it yet.
I only saw a 2mpg hwy drop on mine going from the factory 33 to the 35x12.5 which isn't too bad imo. However when I lift it I suspect I'll have another hit in mileage
I presume GM has stopped the gelling issue with diesel? I have watched many videos and I’m presume that is thing of past or not?
Diesel Fuel Gelling is not a GM issue but a fuel issue in cold weather.
@ is gelling still a problem with these engines! I interested in a diesel in duramax but have one in cold subzero conditions?
(Thanks, GM!)
I ordered an equally equipped MY24 ZR2 in silver but before it came in, I found a heavily discounted Ram 2500 Rebel with 6.7 Cummins for like $14k off MSRP and bought it instead.
I have 2024 Zr2 when i can buy the side steps plz
do they still come with a extra QT. of oil
Yes, they do, starting with the 2023 Truck models.
Both my brother and i took delivery of our AT4's back in 2021 with both steering wheels like that, we were told to drive 1000Km's to let things "settle" then they did an alignment to fix them. Have been perfect ever since. The steering wheel i mean anyways. I have a 24 AT4 with the LZ0 coming in the next couple weeks
When do you change transmission fluid on 3.0 Duramax diesel? I have 71,000 on my 2020
oddly enough, the owners manual says nothing of it aside from 45,000 mile interval under severe use.

@@DemonWorks Nice to hear inside folks speak out. Good on you. Horrible as customer to deal with.
What’s difference between this truck and the AT4?
at4 is more like a trail boss.
It took me 14 months to get my 22 AT4..
What if you pull a trailer within the 500 miles?
nobody will know... but if the vehicle has mechanical issues later on down the road, it's something you may look back at and think that maybe the break in was more important than originally thought.
@@DemonWorksYou may be right. It looks like it's leaking something. Spots look like oil from afar but as you close in it looks like water color on the concrete. Almost like soot with def? I'm not sure but the dealer says there is seapage in front of oil pan. I don't think it's that.
How do you feel about the 4 cylinder turbo engine option?

I’d stay away from that engine. GM is discounting trucks with that engine heavily - nobody wants them.

I’m really hoping you have a gear swap planned for us, uh, I mean you 😎
At this time, I do not, but you never know !
Try keeping one over 150K & see how durable it is?
ua-cam.com/video/dxGu1pIJeGo/v-deo.html
Is it geared different to compensate for the larger tires
Can't believe the steering wheel was centered such a way, aligned in at the factory to be that crooked. Even the dealership should have caught that. Sent that truck right back to the factory. That's how the factory learns to get their s*** right.
But to the dealer, a sale is a sale and they're desperate for every one.
I just wish Chevy would make a half ton economy style truck with a V8 for less than 30k. It seems like these unaffordable vehicles get a lot of attention but aren't the staple vehicle that brings in the business.

Manufacturer says oil change at 5000 miles then 15000 miles.
Manufacturer says to follow the dash, because it varies by driving. It should be no more than 7500 miles between intervals.
Good video, love the ZR2 package, especially the suspension. However, I am a Toyota guy who drives a Tundra TRD PRO, and there's just no way I would give up that kind of reliability for a Chevy. I guarantee you that they had a lazy azz operator who didn't center the steering wheel during alignment after the truck was driven off the assembly line.
That device has a bubble just like a level and it centers itself to virtually make it impossible to F up.
It relies on the operator to do his or HER job properly.
Most of these operators are high seniority, that being said, some just ain't worth 40 dollars an hour.
Trucks are already expensive as it is. Throwing a massive supercharged motor pushes it over $100k and they won’t sell.
23 camaros were a 12k difference from 2SS to ZL1 and the ZL1 gained more options by going to a ZL1, so I don't see why the option couldn't have been made available for $10k.
