12,000 miles in about 3 months on my ZR2 getting 23.0 mpg. I spend most of my time on the interstate running 75-80. Haven't done any towing with it yet. Love the truck
Bar none the best truck I’ve ever owned. Closing in on 70,000 miles on my 2022 Sierra 3.0 and couldn’t be happier. Been a great truck and I look forward to buying another in a few years.
Canadian driven '23 LZO. The mpg is great, comfortable drive with the torque causing a fraction of downshifts compared to last few 5.3's. DEF no issues usually, haul 500-100lbs in box off and on. Sometimes it will eat 3-4 bars in 1500kms, then back to normal. Now have the P1098 code like the LM2's, coolant control valve nfg. Sticks and shifts wrong position causing fan on full tilt and reduced acceleration. Sometimes every start and you sit for minutes retrying start up until fan stays off, then good for 10 hours straight no temp issues, nothing. Until next start up. No parts here until mid December or later. Total horseshit when they had the LM2 issue, redesign the LZO unit just as shitty. Oh and wiring harness had 6-7 wire breaks at alternator bracket location. Dash was like a damn Christmas tree until they fixed the wiring. Every def and emission warning you could get. At 90k kms. Glad I got the full tilt extended warranty. Wiring would have cost me $800 alone. Like the engine, not much else. This unit will go before all my warranties expire at 160k kms, have no trust in high miles with any of the new vehicles. 2007 Duramax was best truck ever owned. 460k kms, 2 batteries, alternator and 1 set of brakes. No more builds like that for us.
I’m at 8500 miles on my 2024 ZR2 DuraMax. No issues. All around MPG 23 MPG. 1 gallon of DEF used per 800 miles. Using 1 quart oil per 5K. No towing. Use off road 50% of time in my work. This truck will go anywhere. Replaced my 2023 ZR2 with 6.2L which averaged 15 MPG on 93 octane. No issues on that truck at 40K. ZR2 is a great truck!
Always love your insight. Can you please explain what is going on with the transmission module recall on over 500K trucks with the Duramax and 10 speed transmission? It is very concerning
I definitely would have appreciated lane centering vs lane departure warnings, but I wouldn’t call the feature useless. I turn it on on the highway for the seat vibration warnings in case I’m distracted and start to drift.
DEF is my biggest complaint on my Duramax Trail Boss. Even though I had 2 knock sensor replaced and oil leak from dipstrick during the first 2,000 miles. Been fine since that repair.
My left leaf spring pack was squeaking like crazy! I jacked it up and down (giggidy) only to find the leaf spring retaining clip (forward) was rubbing in only one spot so I cleaned out the dirt real well and snuck a zip tie in between the leafs that solved my problem. Now I can actually roll down the window 😂it was getting bad.
Yep the noises withbleaf springs are always caused by either loose u-bolts or dirt getting in between the leafs. That's why guys that just try to slather grease between the leafs end up with even worse noise issues. The grease grabs onto dirt and pulls it into the leaf pack over time. Clean any dirt off of the leaf springs, make sure the delrin plastic inserts are in place, and torque the u-bolts to spec, no more noises. No grease or gimmicky rubber inserts required.
My ‘23 SIERRA 1500 SLT has averaged 27.9 mpg over its first 17,000 miles. I think that the LZ0 has 2 DEF injectors as opposed to only 1 for the LM2 which may account for the increased DEF usage (?).
Glad I opted for the 2.4 on my last lease tows my stuff fine actually better than my old 5.7 hemi did shockingly! that thing sounds like a pile DEF isn't getting any cheaper any diesel I've driven used a tank of DEF for a tank of fuel or less I'd never buy any new truck brand lease them dump them every 2-3 years and get new.
I have a 22 3.0 Duramax (with the 22 1/2 interior refresh) and love it. I didnt notice the amount of DEF drinking on my truck, is that something that changed drastically between the LM2 and LZ0?
As i had 5 of thes enow, yes. The LM2 was typically .75 gallons per 1000 miles for me. The 23 LZ0 was 1.25 per 1000 and this 24 is 1.75 gallons per 1000 miles. Towing was much worse.
I honestly cannot stand my 2024 Sierra AT4. Love the fuel economy when it isn't doing random things with DEF consumption, infotainment bugs, TPMS warnings, cameras going out, random warnings for DEF range, unpredictable shudder at low speeds, rear-end clunk (Gonna use your video to check the bolts myself). I don't see this truck being a keeper for me. My 2023 LTZ Silverado had fewer issues for the same number of miles. In all likelihood, going to ditch this beautiful truck and look for an older truck that I can restore and not feel duped on.
As for the rear end clunk just put some rubber under the rear leaf springs. There is a company that sells the kits or you can order the rubber off Amazon. Fixed my annoying rear end clunk
For clunks check your not leaking diesel from the filler hose. I had a problem with my 23 sierra started leaking diesel and ate at the leaf spring bushing. Everything was replaced with warranty. Also crazy smell of coolant when turned off. Had a lot of bugs ended trading it in and got a 24 sierra with a 5.3 fully loaded no regrets other then maybe power?
Here’s a counterpoint - none of these issues with my 2024 at4 Duramax, with the exception of leaf spring clunk that I fixed with the rubber Spring Thing pads. Love my truck.

Love my zr2 but have been to the dealer twice with a “def unavailable” screen reading no bars yet is topped up and full. They reprogrammed the module and tell me to keep an eye on it. The def unavailable came back a day after they reprogrammed it. Not sure if it needs another reprogramming or the tank and sensor needs to be changed. 🧐

@@DemonWorks Thank you. Still doing good with regens or have you had to use the archoil again? For some reason I thoght you had a later video where your frequency went back to around 150 miles but I might be wrong about that.

Trans service would be good. If you are handy withvtools, its easy to change the diff fluid. Especially if you use the valvoline fluid in the bags. You get most of the diff fluid into the diff with little waste or mess.
I test drove one Saturday, I’m probably going to build my own Trail Boss. One thing does the exhaust hurt your trailer? On my truck I’m definitely going to side exhaust.

End exhaust is not bad at all, I was also worried, even with the truck idiling while connecting the trailer you can’t even notice the smell or heat, it also pulls fresh air in before exiting the exhaust. I haven’t noticed any heat even on the propane bottle s of my rv which I was initially worried about. Even done regents while pulling steep grades with no problems.
