Great fun, Pete! Thanks for having me. Had a blast and the time flew!
Hi Jamie!
Are you from Hungary? Laszlo is very popular name in Hungary!
@@csabacsernak7445 Half Hungarian and half Italian.
JAMIE/“ tremendous “ / simply TREMENDOUS/. PETE/ don’t do that again / too many days off in a row / I’m an addictive person/ went through SOT withdrawal. LOL 👍💯
Great viewer appreciation episode (probably the best one) enjoyed it.
By the way I have an edge too.........
It was cool chatting with you Jamie.
If you like CSNY, you will love David Crosby's first solo album, some say it's the best solo of all 4, I would say it's equal to Neil Young's best moments! I highly recommend it !!!
Meh
idk about Neil's BEST moments, but its better than anything Stills or Nash did solo
Nash first two solo albums are greats as well
Is that A Real Pancho, or is that A Sears Pancho ?? FZ
An Amazon poncho
LOL
You could make more money as butcher
So don't you waste your time on me
Love it!
Nick Drake name checked on sea of tranquility. Damn. I love nick drake. And this channel kicks ass. I bought nick drake's greatest hits and shortly after that bought the box set with everything he did. Elton John did a rare EP where he sang four nick drake songs. Its great. I love Crosby Stills and Nash, but only have the first couple of albums. I am a huge neil young fan. I have seen Neil 30 or 40 times. And your guest also name checks the gabriel/sting show. Great show. And this was a great show too.
Nick drake was very talented, got his three albums very poetic and pastoral, unque guitar player too.
Ohio is a top 10 classic rock song for me. Of all time..
I live in Ohio and forgot to mention it. The shame...
@@Jamie.Laszlo great show Jamie!
Jamie is great. He had me cracking up. Great show.
Crosby also pissed off all the Kiss fans by saying they don't belong on the Rock n Roll Hall of fame
He was only speaking the truth though :)
@@Walesktf I dont like KISS so much but i love Ace Frehley .( guitarist )
@@aleksandarfrick2656 Ace Frehley is without a doubt the best musician to have passed through the ranks of Kiss
@@shaynewest8757 because it was brought up that David Crosby dissed EVH. He's a lowlife
@@lucasbeer353 Kiss a rock n roll band? Do me a favour, they are an extremely over-rated, over-hyped pop band. Nothing more, nothing more, nothing less! They have an immense sugar-coated, over-hyped image which fools a lot of the people a lot of the time. The bands songs are nothing but candy floss rock n roll. Guts n glory LMFAO!! Where are these two things in their music? Guts n' Glory belong to real bands. Simmons and Stanley wouldn't know guts n' glory if it bit them on their collective asses. As for their dumb-ass lyrics,...do you really want me to spell them out to you...?
Fun show glad to see Ranking the Albums back after the hiatus. Deja Vu is my number one with CSN 1977 a very close second. I’m a big Stephen Stills fan the first Manassas album is a sprawling epic masterpiece firmly in my top 25 all time favorite albums. Can’t recommend it highly enough.
1 Deja Vu
2 CSN 1969
3 CSN 1977
4 Daylight Again
1. CSN 1977
2. CSN 1969
3. Deja Vu
4. Daylight Again
Hell yeah I’ve been waiting for some CSNY
I really liked Daylight Savings but that's just CSN not CSN & Y. Turn Your Back on Love and Southern Cross are outstanding songs
"Daylight Again" is the album that got me into CSN. It's my favorite. I saw them on that tour in Kansas City at Kemper Arena.
Great show lads, off to listen to daylight again.
Love to see a nick drake album rank. Cult artist here in uk, i know brad pitt did a radio show on him long time ago. Great artist, along with jeff buckley.
Nick Drake is fantastic, for sure. Though I‘d be surprised if Pete were into him, although stylistically he was not that far away from CSNY. Would be a short video too, with only three albums. Not that that’s a reason not to do it. Other album rankings I“d like to see: Fairport Convention, Richard and Linda Thompson (and Richard solo), Steeleye Span...
colin rogers I recently discovered that the 80’s hit life in a northern town by the dream academy was written about nick drake apparently
This would be amazing!!
1 Deja Vu
2 Crosby Stills & Nash
3 American Dream
4 Daylight Again
5 CSN
I appreciated the tip about Four Way Street. I've never heard that live album, that'll be some homework for me in December cause it looks like it's maybe not going to be a full lockdown where I am but pretty close.
It's a great live album . Neil Young does a great medley of some of his hits as well.
It's great. Got it for my dad a few years ago and he tells me every few months how much he loves it
Good show and Jamie is great!! He merits inclusion in the Hudson Valley Squares for sure!
Really enjoyed your show on Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I graduated high school in 1966 so that’s my sweet spot. I’m sure I have played their music in my lifetime more than any other. I’m so glad to hear that you like their music also Pete. I am also a big fan of Stephen stills guitar work. Wooden ships is my favorite all-time song any genre. Every time I hear it it’s almost like meditation I go to another place. And that guitar sound of his especially in that song is dream like. Also the show was extremely entertaining and your guest was very funny.
I've only ever paid attention to the first 2 albums , and the live album , 4 Way Street. It looks like I'll have to check out their other LPs.
Thanks !
Great stuff, Pete and Jamie. This video is the reason why I love Sea Of Tranquility and music in general. I can go from Iron Maiden to Crosby, Stills & Nash (Young) in a matter of moments.
Great show . 2 things to add. Jefferson Airplane did " Wooden Ships" on the VOLUNTEERS album, also from 1969 ( it was written by members of both groups). And in 1968 ? there was an album called " Super Session" with Steve Stills, Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper. In a round about way that might qualify as a " super group" . Best Wishes.
I actually had that Super Session album on display down by my right leg. It was too low so you couldn't see it on camera.
Jefferson Airplane also did Triad on their 1968 album Crown of Creation ( not sure if David Crosby had written the song for the Birds, CSN , or CSNY )
Entertaining and informative... really enjoyed Clint Eastwood's album rankings:-). I was pretty happy with my CSN and CSN&Y collection but see I'll now have to add to it. Thanks for a great show!
About the ranking of the Neil Young studio albums you could rank them like you did with the Chicago studio albums. With the Chicago studio albums you did the Terry Kath years. With Neil Young you could rank the late 1960s and all of the 1970s studio albums. That would be Neil Young (debut) through Rust Never Sleeps. That's eleven albums counting Time Fades Away. Time Fades Away is a live album but it contains newly written material (at the time) and then recorded live.
Best to worst:
Deja Vu
Crosby, Stills & Nash (debut)
CSN
Looking Forward
Daylight Again
Live It Up
After the Storm
American Dream
After the Storm was an album I kind of dismissed when I first got it, but it was a grower and holds up really well, not up there with those first 4 classics, but definitely best of the rest for me. Bit of a hot take but I do believe Mr Stills' solo debut may just be the best album by anybody in this quartet, or any combination thereof. And thanks Jamie for mentioning the 4 Way Street version of Carry On, I'm forever suggesting that to youtube reactors who've done the studio version, but none of the buggers have listened to me so far...!
Great show , many thnaks . Although he might piss a lot of people off , when you look at the quality of David Crosby's work right up until now , you would have to agree that both his voice and his songs are simply astounding [ especially the CPR albums] . Neil Young may be far more prolific but in amongst that vast output are some classics and some real clangers - just my opinion [ and I do own a lot of his music]
Well done, great fun! Crosby is a genius, a super singer, Nash for harmony, Stills for rocking guitar, Young is Young!
Love your work Pete, greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪
Jamie Laszlo is the best guest reviewer I've seen on SoT. Look forward to more of him.
Love these guys and sll their other projects and bands are awesome as well. I am a huge Stephen Stills guy so a list of his solo stuff would be great too
Great show!! Some albums for me to check out besides the first two which i love so thanks for that! Also more Jamie please!
Thank you, Pete, for having Jamie back on SoT for this and thank you, Jamie, for bringing an obvious fan love of the CSN and sometimes Y alphabet and solo work . Deja Vu has remained my favorite since I bought the album when it was first released. The addition of Y to the band and album added that “I have an edge!!” to the group. Come back soon, Jamie, and thanks again to Jamie and Pete for an entertaining and informative show. Great job!
Fantastic show.
Jamie Laszlo is a top notch guest.
Good show! Lots of knowledge and cool stories.
Stills is the best as far as talent, musicianship, and personality are concerned.
Crosby is the self-important jerk who occasionally comes up with a great song, but I wonder if putting up with him as a band member is actually worth those few songs...
Nash is only there for the harmonies. I will, however, give him a huge amount of praise for "Cathedral."
Young is there to whine and falsely brag about being the most socially enlightened member.
Been a CSN fan since I was about 16 and love many of their songs. Thoughtful lyrics, interesting guitar tunings, immediate vocals, and excellent instrumentation. They cover all bases. The only thing I have to say in a negative manner is that their songs are either great or horrible...and they have many that are actually unworthy of the name CSN. Just my opinion. But they have always been good live in concert every time I saw them. Stills is also very good when he tours solo. Unfortunately, Stills lost his voice a while back. Very sad to me. Ah, the march of time...
TOP THREE ALBUMS:
CSN (Seven great songs, all members have great songs on here which is unusual)
Crosby, Stills, & Nash (Six great songs, all by Stills or Crosby)
Deja Vu (Four great songs, all by Stills, Crosby, or Mitchell)
HM: Daylight Again (Two stand out tracks by Nash and Stills, we all know which ones they are, but the magic was gone by this time and has never really returned....just my opinion.)
TO JAMIE ---> I believe that you can have an edge and still appreciate CSN. I remember having their CDs on my shelf right next to Metallica, Megadeth, etc. Good music is good music!
Jamie is so entertaining. I loved this!
I saw CSN back in the mid-80s and don’t recall that issue with people talking during Guinevere. That’s so aggravating. Today, I think concertgoers have gotten way worse with the talking. I don’t understand the point of paying money for a show and standing there yakking the entire time.
1) Déjà Vu (CSN&Young LP)
2) Crosby, Stills & Nash
3) CSN
4) Looking Forward (CSN&Young LP)
5) Daylight Again
6) After the Storm
7) Live It Up
8) American Dream (CSN&Young LP)
Great list. Here is my own ranking:
8. Live it Up
7. After the Storm
6. CSN
5. American Dream
4. Looking Forward
3. Daylight Again
2. Crosby, Stills & Nash
1. Deja Vu
8. Looking forward
7. After the Storm
6. Live it up
5. American Dream
4. Daylight again
3. Csn
2. Deja vu
1. Crosby stills and nash
Thank you guys for your picks. I only own CSN&Y ‘ So Far’ and ‘Daylight Again’.🎼🎤🎸🎵🥁
American Dream is one of the worst albums ever from a famous group.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving Pete! Jamie is hilarious
This guys a great co host....great knowledge, passion, comic timing and self aware when he drops a stinker.....
Good stuff Jamie.....CSNY - Crosby - Slayer - Napalm Death and Young.....
I don't know if Jamie knows this but members of the Grateful Dead play on the first David Crosby solo album and the first Crosby & Nash album. Also, I noticed neither of you mentioned the song Deja Vu and the song 49 Bye-Byes.
I did know that. That might be why I didn't pick those albums as my favorite Crosby-Nash or solo Crosby album. Lol. But in all seriousness they're both good albums.
@@Jamie.Laszlo I was just curious...LOL. I'm a Deadhead but I love a lot of other bands. I like CSN, CSNY, and Neil Young a lot. Too bad you never got into the Grateful Dead. It's like Pete said...either you get them or you don't. Check out Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. Awesome albums!
@@steveclark9211 I have Europe 72. I should give it another spin tomorrow. I usually give them another shot every 10 years or so...and they're due.
@@Jamie.Laszlo Wow, dude! You're amazing! You don't like the Dead but you have Europe '72. Wow! Do you have Skull & Roses? That's a good album too. I've seen the Grateful Dead 11 times, the Dead once, and Dead & Company once. I've seen CSNY three times (the first time at Oakland Stadium 1974) and CSN twice. I remember you said you've seen them quite a few times.
@@Jamie.Laszlo Don't forget who it is playing that pedal steel on Teach Your Children (and I could never 'get' the Dead either).
Is this the Laszlo from GTA 5?
Nothing wrong with Neil Diamond or Air Supply Jamie
I know. I grew up with Neil Diamond. My mom says I danced to Crackin' Rosie before I could walk.
I resented CSN (and Y when applicable) for many years as being British, I am a massive Hollies fan and Graham Nash’s moving stateside took one of the main ingredients away. However the Hollies went on to do some magnificent stuff. But as I matured, I realised that music is a journey and each person must travel as they need to to be inspired and creative. That resentment I had had long gone and I would put the first CSN album in my top ten albums of all time. It is truly amazing.
So would you say your resentment is now a "Long Time Gone"?
@@Jamie.Laszlo good one 😂😂
@@Jamie.Laszlo it’s good that you mentioned that Graham used to be a contemporary of the Beatles in the early days an the Hollies took over from them at the Cavern club in Liverpool after the Beatles had gone to London. Strange then that CSN tried out for the Beatles apple label before they recorded the first album and got TURNED DOWN, very surprising given that Graham was a mate of theirs. The Beatles must have been kicking themselves especially after the way CSN took off.
Great show guys! Not listened to CSN&Y for years, think I'll give them a good listen to this week. Not got all their output, but my favourite two are the first two albums they released, a bit like most casual fans I guess? Deja Vu being my favourite as that is the first one of theirs that I purchased and played to death. Not only are these two albums their best two, but they are two of the greatest and most influential rock albums of all time. Look forward to the Ranking the Albums of Nick Drake!
I don't think that Nick Drake show is really gonna happen. I was just messing around.
Yeah, I guessed you were messing around. The late great Nick Drake is very much a British institution and very underrated though. Nice shout out too for Lou Rawls, good to see I am not the only fan of 60s soul music, who listens to (or in your case takes part in) Pete's shows :)
Fuck yeah!
i thought this channel just did, prog, metal and hard rock? pete must really appreciate this viewer!
I've done plenty of classic rock type stuff if it's a band I enjoy.
@@seaoftranquilityprog its funny because jamie addresses exactly what i was thinking 2 minutes in, lol. i always dig your insight. im a fan of all music, but csny seemed pretty soft for this channel.
Good music is good music.
I guess I really gotta complete my CSNandsometimesY collection. Thanks guys.
Great review episode!.very entertaining ! Tough to rank their first couple of records - but partial to Neil Young
Here is mine
Deja Vu
1st album
Daylight again
After the Storm
Looking forward
CSN
Live it up
American Dream
Suggestion do a show on ""roots" and other bands and side projects - Byrds, Springfied, Hollies, crosby - nash and Stills project w Al Kooper and Mike Bloomfield. Stills shines on the super session album.
A recent convert to CSNY l really enjoyed your reviews, Stephen Stills guitar is so beguiling. It's quite hard to get some of these albums now. Stephen Stills Live album is fabulous but possibly out of print. I just bought the 1974 box set which is great too but the dvd included was short and disappointed. Daylight Again is probably my favourite studio release. My appreciation of them is all the sweeter for being a late convert! For ages the sickly banter put me off 4 way street but l am now on board with it. Their 2012 live album is also excellent. Thoroughly enjoyed your review from here in the UK.
1. Deja Vu - one of the best rock albums ever. Totally agree with Pete about Carry On - made me go out and buy most of the discography - along with Give Me Blind and Cathedral. 2. Crosby, Stills and Nash 3. CSN 4. Daylight Again
What a great catalogue - mostly - for this "Band".... Both #1's could go either way for me - well done guys. But sorry Jamie, please, please etc... I'm gonna back Pete on Bob Dylan
More ranking episodes with Jamie please. Very enjoyable. I’m sure he’ll show us his sharper edge. Hey, Barry Manilow could rock!
Great ranking guys. But for me, if you got CSNY Greatest Hits (NOT “So Far”) and “Four Way Street” and maybe “Deja Vu”, you got all the CSNY you need.
Ashamedly, I had no idea these guys had eight studio albums. I only own the first three, and I can't choose between the first two for top pick.
Something special had to materialize, considering the three groups each member originally came from, prior to CSN (and Y.) I'm especially a big fan of both The Byrds and The Hollies.
All the members wrote some great songs and vocal harmonies but their albums as a whole were never the greatest. The radio hits will always trump their other material as far as I'm concerned. The earliest albums were at their creative peaks and went on a slow decline after the early 1970s.
Deja Vu
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young
CSN
The only ones I have heard so far
Lotta fun... enjoyed this vid. Thanks Guys
Pete,That was so much fun! It was so entertaining! Thanks
I bought Live It Up just to get the crazy stupid cover art
This was great. More Jamie please!
Weedeater does a really great cover version of Southern Cross. CSN goes sludge!
Can you do top 10 songs from the Hollies?
Jamie is always a real treat. Fun countdown.
This dudes a classic. Cool show Pete Pardo
“Haven’t We Lost Enough” appears as “I Still Love You” on the REO Speedwagon album “Building the Bridge.”
Wow. I had no idea. Look at me learning something new today.
100 years from now, people will still be discovering the beauty and majesty of CSN’s debut album. It is perfection. An absolute American treasure! Frankly, nothing that came after ever measured up. I love Neil, but honestly I don’t think he made CSN better. “Daylight Again” contains one of the most beautiful songs Croz ever wrote- “Delta”. The story he tells about how he wrote that song in the shape he was in at the time is a wonder. Also, it’s often overlooked , but I really like the “Allies” live album. There’s a cool version of Croz singing a great cover of Joni’s “For Free” as well as a live version of “Shadow Captain” that far exceeds the original. The album also contain a studio cut called “War Games” which sounds just like an ‘80’s rocker should with a bit of trivia that the song should have been the soundtrack to the Matthew Broderick movie of the same name.
I also really like Barrel of Pain on Allies. Michael Finnigan does a great job on the vocals and keys.
Great show thanks! Not sure how you can complain that an album is too long, to each their own. I feel the opposite regarding many Neil albums. Solid ranking, I think the CSNY box set is in the top 5 box sets ever.
There's a kick ass version of Dear Mr. Fantasy on that box set. It's the only song I know of credited as Stills-Nash.
Great episode.
Didn't CSNY only make one album together as a whole?
CSNY released three studio albums and a few live albums.
Great video. Stephen Stills has a kick ass live album from the early 70’s that has my favorite version of Wooden Ships on it.
I love Word Game on that live album.
That acoustic side of that album might be just as good as the electric side. Word Game is a great tune.
Congratulations on this humorous presentation. By the way, the way Charles Bronson pronounce the "Déjà Vu" means "Already You" in french... Funny. From an assiduous french follower.
Meh
David Crosby..is that you?
@@Jamie.Laszlo Probably Ted Nugent ...
That was a very fun look at the great Crosby, Stills, and Nash/and Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. They were meant to be..that harmony probably blew their minds too when they discovered it....The music world wouldn't be totally complete without it and it's history. I think everyone loves Dark Star. Good video guys. ✌️🤟
After that old walrus talked crap about the great EVH I despise them even more
When are you gonna rank The Mentors albums Pete? Or El Duce solo albums including Karaoke Kings 1&2
I'm not.
One of the first bands to have naked fat women as album art
