Great discussion guys! I have to admit, my interest in Ghost has waned in recent years as well. I totally respect Ghost's vision and musicianship, but similar to what Travis was saying, I find the vibe has become a little too "cutesy" for my taste. I really enjoyed the memory lane you guys walked down of going to those early Ghost concerts, which were absolutely amazing! I have to admit, however, this episode inspired me to pull out Prequelle and Impera, both of which I kind of gave short shrift at their respective times of release. I was pleasantly surprised and found a deeper appreciation for both records. I think I'm going to run against the grain, however, in that I definitely lean toward Impera as the better record. Yes...yes...yes...Twenties sucks. It's without question the worst Ghost song ever. However, I love how the record opens and goes int Kaisarion. Travis is right, this track has all the sassiness of an Andrew Lloyd Webber showtune...but I still like it. I think it's a more consistent and interesting record than Prequelle. Again, thanks for the discussion!

When you say "cutesy" it makes me think of when Kiss hit the Dynasty / Unmasked era. A similar criticism could be made of Kiss's image and the demographic to which they were appealing. That said, for me, I'm glad they went through that because to remain static would itself become boring. If pressed, I agree that the earlier, eerie image Ghost had is the preferred version of Ghost. But I can't see that maintaining itself for a lengthy career. It remains to be seen if Ghost finds their own Creatures of the Night era, and revisits something grittier.
