In the European Union, or at least most countries in the EU, cargo vans must have a separation between passenger cabin and cargo area and no windows in the cargo area. This way they qualify as a cargo van for business purposes and are taxed less than the passenger versions. Also, for the EU cargo van market it is important that a europallet fits in, which is a standardized pallet size used by many delivery companies, railroad and even airlines. The europallet is 47.2 by 31.5 inches.
5:45 The Buzz Cargo comes with one sliding side door as standard. But you can option your Buzz Cargo with two sliding side doors if you want. Here in the UK, the extra sliding door is a £1,050 option. You can even purchase a Buzz Cargo with two side-hinged rear doors instead of the powered tailgate on the version that you drove in this video. The powered tailgate is a £528 option, whereas the side-hinged rear doors are a standard no cost option. And yes, you can have a rear window for your Buzz Cargo - but only if you have optioned the powered tailgate. The window will only come fitted to the powered tailgate itself. There is no option for windows on the side body panels or windows for the side-hinged rear doors. But who knows. With the right customer demand and pressure, VW may launch more window options in future.
it's sucks, you can ONLY have a windowed tailgate, you can't have windowless tailgate. Also no arm rests for the drivers seat if you option the standard 2 seat passenger bench. Hopefully the tailgate changes or else if have to bodycoloured vinyl wrap the rear window to hide equipment.
I have an id4 on order. scheduled to be delivered week 1 of 2023. Saw the infotainment stuff during my test drive. but figured that 9/10 times ill be using android auto anyways like i do now in my e-golf
One thing that struck me from watching the driving test shot from the passenger side is the dual passenger seat configuration and how this could be easily applied to pickup trucks in order to eliminate the usually (unoccupied) 2nd row of double cab pickups allowing either a longer cargo capacity bed OR smaller pickups; not everybody wants, or needs, to drive a behemoth of a pickup.
I'd consider getting a Buzz over the Lightening as a work vehicle. I'd prefer the efficiency of the Buzz and don't need an open bed. If VW only imports the passenger version, I'd just get it cargo converted. Not super hard to do.

Europeans and UK people love the CAMPER. Anyone who gets in a VW Camper [ie the one with the bed, cooker, fridge, etc.., loves it. Of course, N.America lost the van. Europe/UK never did, so there's not quite the excitement here. But if people know about the Buzz they are excited to see a Camper version, at least.
I'd be WAY more interested in a utility spec, short wheelbase Buzz, but with windows and a back seat, than what they are likely planning to sell in North America.
It certainly looks great. But all of the haptic interior controls are truly a nightmare. VW needs to come back to physical knobs, buttons, and switchgear.
I like it. Bring this to America. I would buy multiple of it. I'm a restaurant owner, I need this type of EV; 3 seaters with lots of space in the back for shopping, catering, delivery. Very nice.
Because of the chicken tax (25%), a cargo van like this would be prohibitively expensive here in the States. So no, we won’t be getting ID Buzz Cargo in the US any time soon.
Auto makers located outside of the US get around the tariff by importing cargo trucks and vans either as a kit to be assembled in the US or with the ability to remove rear passenger seats. The chicken tax is just one of those policies that is outdated and easily circumvented.
How did the ride compare with those 18" wheels? Were the sound levels improved in the cargo vs. the passenger van? Loving these videos and can't wait until the Buzz comes to the US. I'll pre-order day 1.
Actually it's range for cargo is class leading, unfortunately it's base model price at £46k does not make economic sense as it's competitor are at 26k and for 51k you can have a larger E sprinter
I just looked the cargo one up. In Germany, he will cost 45k without tax. I have a standard Diesel transporter for my company which costs 14k. Ok, it has approx. 30 % less cargo space, but a similar sized one you can get for 20k. Not to mention with far more range.
hte problem with the ID cars is the ID UI/UX but also the capacitive and slidey buttons on the infotainment and the wheel, you can fix the first with update, the second, until that's gone it'll be a while until I buy one

Great video you made. Is it possible the bulkhead is making the highway noise quieter? Sounded quiet on the video. I think I love almost everything about it! Hopefully it comes with a 350 mile range, and if there were some way to purchase it in a different country and bring it to the US. I don’t know how that works with the tax, but please don’t make me move to Copenhagen, maybe Germany, just to drive a Volkswagen cargo. Always a caveat in life
It's such a shame that many of the EV's that UK, European, Australian and New Zealand markets get, don't even get a look-in when it comes to North America. I think many manufacturers greatly underestimate Nth American buyers judging by the often heard/read lament: "Wish we could get it over here". The appeal of the Bolt & Nissan Leaf shows that American buyers in particular, aren't necessarily as hidebound to what we outside of Nth America often disparagingly remark on as "yet another oversized (Yank Tank)", as they once were.
