My dad traveled to Germany in 1976, bought a VW Bus (red and white). They then drove through Germany, Denmark, Norway and Sweden. I believe he shipped it back to the US from Sweden (it’s been a few decades, forgive my memory loss). They flew home and a couple of months later, the new 1976 VW Bus was delivered. What an icon. We loved that vehicle for a couple of decades. Put hundreds of thousands of miles on it while road trippin’ all over the western United States. It was the perfect high school vehicle. When our kids were younger we had a Eurovan. These vans are unlike anything else on the road. If we can afford a new one…it’ll be a dream purchase. Love these things.
This provides a whole new meaning to a modern day production line, very interesting, the precision quality was very impressive, VWs made in Germany has always meant quality, thank you for a visual walk thru the process…

a car which cant run 10k miles per year isnt worth to be called a car. And the age of 7y ist not an age. My VW is now 12y and has run 330k km. But beware if it is a Diesel. Short tracks are deadly to the AGR and DPF.
I have owned 1966, 1975, 1978, 1985, 1993, 2003 VW buses. All westys but one tin top. Now own Mercedes Benz mb100d. Still a classic. Hope the buzz builds a conversation camper. EV is our future. Sodium batteries will reduce cost. Hope to see the price reflect.
VW's industrial might is concentrated on the electric car now. That's pretty big. ID.3s and ID.4s are all over the place in Europe now. Going to be interesting what the car landscape looks like in 10 years time.
I couldn’t believe what I saw with the manual taping. I am not sure it was for the two tone painting either, it seemed like it was just taping off of window and door frames.

@@eyesuckle but the batteries will be trash. That's the problem with the new ev's they are working steadily towards doing away with the used car market. They don't make money on a 1991 toyota camry that is still running. they are engineering a 5-7 year shelf life into these things. With the goal being selling you a new car a couple of years after you pay off the current one.
Very interesting! I was not expecting so many robots in the frame production. Looks great, and quality must be exact, with the robots repeating everything time after time in the exact same way!

As a maintenance technician, I'd love to go on a tour of this shop. I like working with automation equipment. This would be fascinating. It seems weird to me that none of these workers have safety glasses on!
It's just standard operating procedure in USA. Any manufacturing environment requires eye protection at all times, anywhere on shop floors. As for specific stuff, the presses in the beginning of the video. A maintenance technician could have oil drip in his eye when he's servicing the press/ dies. The glue robots, again, if a service technician were to replace one of the supply hoses, it's possible that he forgets to blend pressure off first, and that adhesive could spray and hit his eyes. Some places I feel it's NOT necessary, but I've personally had my eyes saved because of safety glasses. I know this is a different country and don't think the standards here should be imposed else where. But it's just odd seeing no safety glasses.

It's not like every other minivan out there. All of the Chrysler Pacifica's rear seats fold all the way into the floor. The ID Buzz does not have that feature.

It's not like every other minivan out there. All of the Chrysler Pacifica's rear seats fold all the way into the floor. The ID Buzz does not have that feature.

Surely they can compete in the production volume - but the big question is: can they compete with the technical specs of Tesla vehicles?
I don’t really think they are going after the same market. The VW is supposed to be a more affordable practical family / work vehicle. Not a luxury item.
