gitgud, kid
I’m really surprised how marc still finds new stuff about art to teach about..really goes to show how much there is in art
I'm senior software engineer and I reused most of my knowledge about learning to faster progress with art. I see a lot of things that Marc says applies to other not art related things like IT
It’s near infinite!
He does do new stuff, but he also returns to topics he's covered before.
His workflow has grown and evolved, as have his teaching, presentation, and videography skills.
I love going to multiple versions of the same video, and gleaning everything I can from it/them. One recent example being cloth and folds, which he's addressed three times over the years (multiple videos each time).
You will be surprised how great subject analyze or decomposition lays on art, but it's comes from IT.
It's like animal medicine there will always be new styles/techniques/perspectives and new things introduced. The only time anyone even the professionals stop learning is when they stop trying to learn, which they are where they are because they persisted :)
As someone with ADD/ADHD, step 1 is definitely something I have unconsciously and instinctively gear towards when I'm learning to draw! I thought I was actively making my life harder :'), but it's good to know that there will be some payoff in the future. I find myself studying so long I thought I was stupid lol.
im like the opposite, I don't study at all and I'm digging myself a grave :D
Don't compare the time you need to learn something if at the end you'll only think you're stupid. This kind of comparison is not useful and it's not true or real
The fact that you have the time and ability to create all these different videos each week over the years, is really impressive. Well done 👏
Yes he is a professional artist after all❤❤
I was actually surprised that this video went as deep as it did, because a most of the time with a thumbnail and title like this, it's usually really surface level. thank you for going deeper and I hope it continues to be like this for your future videos
Marc is the reason I took a leap of faith in art, not pursuing as a career but just for personal development. Thanks Marc, I’ve made a lot of friends along the way and still watching your vids! Keep up the great work!
step 1 is actually so helpful. As someone who also has ADD i've always been more comfortable doing things on a "problem based" approach but I always kinda felt bad about that and instinctively thought it was amateurish or hindering my progress in some way, especially when I see other artists talking about their process and they go from reference right from the beginning. So I kept trying to force myself to compile references from the beginning but I always find I then don't really know what to do or how to combine disparate elements and I just end up getting frustrated and art-blocky and give up. Its really mentally helpful to know that a professional has the same approach and its a valid way of going about things.
Perfect. Now I can finally make good spiderverse fanart.
Thanks Marc
You're a great artist Marc, I'm inspired.
Hi marc
I know you probably wont see this but i wanted to thank you for all the help you have given me over the start of my art journey over the pasr few months, both through your videos, as well as online art school (which i just finslly moved into term 2 yesterday on a side note.) However, i also wanted to thank you for being an inspiration for me and helping me decide that i want to pursue concept art as a career and embrace art and creativity within my life.
Look foward to the videos
I was binge watching youtube vids and coz of youtubes algo some of your videos lists on my feed. I enjoyed your vids (Classes in session pay attention!) and mostly your artstyle, and never would I thought I could learn how to draw from you too! From stick figure to anime characters with a month progression. Thanks Marc!
Yesssss perfect video for me for now while I work on art school assignments :) Thank you teach also paid the class fee
Thanks for the lessons Mark. I wouldn't know where to start if you weren't teaching
This is perfect timing how are you like this?? Seriously thank you so much Marc :') I've recently been trying to study form and construction, felt like I was getting stuck in wondering *how* even to study well
Very helpful video. On top of drawing everyday, hopefully I can try a new approach to get better based on this video. Thanks Marc!
This is super helpful and instantly usable. Thanks Marc!
Amazing video and very helpful. I’ve always had a difficult time balancing out making actual art, and doing studies. This approach seems more practical while applying studies to pieces you’re already working on!
Class is definitely in session. Thank you teacher Marc.
The reference really is something helpful for art
Another phenomenal vid, as per usual, THANX! 🙇♂️
Thank you for your effort.❤
Thanks Marc, needing this!
I'm going to soon buy your courses :) I can't wait. As an animator, I always struggle with perspective and anatomy.
Heyyyyy I have ADD too! Marc’s tuts have helped me Improve so much
Thanks Marc for the tutorial
More tips to lecture!! Thank u ,Marc!! Anyway, your free brushs are awesome. 👍👍👍
Hy mark...i was a little curious...can you compare your first portfolio/resume with your lates one... and give some tips on how to go forward for making a portfolio...like should it be a printed document, or a pdf etc.
this is gold, thank you
hey mark really wanted this video! thanks! now i have something to refer too! keep up he great content!
thank you so much, your main points are really summarized in a way that clicks to me so much, thank you thank you thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
A real phenomenon for me also is each of these videos always seems to be the subject that's on my mind when I see them, which is super helpful. Now to go apply it... 😅
Thank you for teaching me a reasonable purpose to studying in general, never in my life did i understand what studying truly mean.
Great!
And I'm still redrawing from your figures.
They are great for training.
Thanks for the help !
It helps to know you have ADD. I have it as well and can't focus. These tips really help. Thanks.
Ill have to give tbis a try ad im focusing my whole summer vacation to practice my art. I know i fall short on the aet basics.
THAT. Is very, very useful. Thanks for the vid!
Hey Marc, can you, or have you done some videos on the topic of 3D? What your workflow was like when you were doing 3D dev work, what programs you used, what processes, etc.? Would be very interested to watch. Always great content nonetheless.
Gonna be using this for sure because ibalways find things i need to study
A fresh approach to art learning taking advantage of your ADD to make art studies efficient, qualitative and result-prooving. Well done ✨Marc Brunet✨ you're a ✨legend✨
Also thank you for that clearance of the baader-meinhof phenomenon, relatable (spent 5 minutes writing its name tf-)
Sincerely,
Tealie Shima Coast
that boom effect is saving lives
I swear that some day I will be another of your students Master Marc!
Really love your works and videos
It's almost like you know what I'm doing, and put out content on that topic. The timing couldn't get better
nice
work
I recently started playing with AI image generation, and while novel for a few minutes the soulless feel of it all has inspired me to go back to art school boot camp. Your videos are always a must watch! Thanks for pouring out the incredible content for so long Marc!
Honestly i play around with ai art for fun but Regardless i just still use my own art cause i honestly prefer it
@@MDGOLD Call it AI imagery or image generators please, it's not art by any definition.
@@ardo656 trust me i don't consider it art at all
@@MDGOLD yeah it just bothers me that it's official name is AI art, it's misleading and insulting to call it art. It's insinuating that art is just imagery which is of course beneficial to AI companies. Not your fault, I just think we should call it AI imagery even if it helps one bit.
Its fun to mess with to get things like the 'tinfoil' iron man pfp I currently use (at the time of writing this) but other than that its best used for inspiration for your own art, sadly there are people that have convinced themselves that using an image generator makes them legitimate artists using a tool hence why sites like DeviantArt are being flooded these days.
Awesomeness sir 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💥💥💥💥💥💥
I love you Marc
:0 i was just looking up stuff like that! 🎉 right on cue
Ty mark 🙂
I will try this
Marc could you plz do a video of you designing a character step by step?😀👍
I have yet to see your art course to not be on sale, but i sincerely appreciate the art advice.
Yes
Marc is great
HUGE!
The master studyer. 😋
😁😁🇧🇷🇧🇷
Um br
fantastic advice. Recently realised that I was hella burnt out so this couldn’t have come at a better time

Step 2 and 3 are both Observe and Copy Cycle - Not sure if it's intentional or a minor mistake. xD
Yikes
would you make a video about drawing structures for landscapes or city designs (medieval gothic etc...?
I'm new to your videos, but hoping this works for me! I have aphantasia so i can't really visualize in my head at all. But i will trust your methods! Thank you for the video.
Marc...can you please make a video how you study painting?
Love this video
I always give up on studying because I just can't get it to look right aka EXACTLY like the reference. I don't like drawing realism (as impressive as it is, it just seems too stressful to me given all of the details you have to pay close attention to) but when I do studies I get the feeling I HAVE to draw them 100% accurately otherwise I'm just not doing it good enough
So in the end, studying just becomes incredibly frustrating and tedious making me not really learn anything
Aaaaand that just sends me right into a downward spiral, telling myself just how worthless and terrible and talentless of an artist I am :) Fun times-
thank you for the class, my favorite bald
IM HERE MARC!!!
The Dunning-Kruger effect, first time i got hit hard by that is by learning how to draw, always had 0 difficulty for learning things, but art ? Damn it's hard as hell
Thank you for making this video! I've always heard people talk about "art studies" but I never really understood what they meant... When I "studied" in school I would just re-read information over and over again and quiz myself on it until I had it down, but art doesn't work exactly like that. The idea of sitting there just picking and arbitrary thing to draw and redraw never seemed effective or interesting to me, and since my jobs keep me very busy the act of "sitting down and just drawing" isn't really a relaxing use of my limited free time. However, I really appreciate your approach of first identifying a problem to address. That gives me a more concrete goal to work towards, and makes me feel more determined that just "loosey-goosey" drawing something over and over.
Next class do a tutorial on the spiderverse style. I just saw it and wow, it deserves appreciation from the art community!
I have been describing my struggles with why my specific path through art education was a bust for me through terms of the 4 stages of competence without even knowing about the 4 stages of incompetence. I felt personally targeted when it came up in this video🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
MARC pleease what is the background song you always use in your videos? 🥺It sounds so whimsical and I'd love to listen to it while I work on art
Hi, Mark. Thank you for another great vid. Here I am with another greedy request. 😅
When you are able, please demo the anatomy for children to teen. Usually, you guide us on using muscular figures to better understand the human figure, which is amazing.
I'm interested in drawing a malnourished child(sounds twisted, but with good reason). How should the child be drawn correctly since the muscle mass is less and bony prominences are more noticeable?
Basically, a tutorial of skinny to chubby of child to teen/adult.
Thank you! 😊
Hey Marc, big fan. I’ve been wanting to get your art school programme for a while, I’ve never drawn digitally before and I bought the starter Wacom tablet to get started.
You mentioned the price of art school is going to rise. How much by? I’ve been struggling to save for it and I’m hoping to get it on a big sale when I can (maybe around Black Friday?)
Please do videos on monsters/creatures and landscapes.
“Ok class is in session so pay attention” but I too have the ADHD 😭
this is a very good video ⭐⭐⭐and i have came back to ask a question? is it okay to have a drawing that has alot of colors? i am a traditional artist and i have found coloring and just putting random colors look good and if you have any tips on this it would be great to hear!! but dont bother yourself much! ⭐ and thank you since i found your channel i have improved so much !! ⭐⭐
I liked the video a lot, just wanted to know how often you do this. Every day??
sir in class
yea !!!!!!!!
♦️ The first tip you gave was actually the one I do without realizing it. A long time ago, I was one of those people who thinks references are cheating.
Now I've eliminated that personality.. I mean by like 99%. That is why I just draw the idea I have in mind THEN if I feel like something is off and I really really can't fix it, that is the time I'll see some references.
I think I've been doing that for like 3 years now or so. I get happy when I don't use references.
But I also get happy if I finally get how to draw that idea or angle by checking some references. I'm like "ok, now I know how to draw this and I won't need to recheck this reference again in the future".
Nice
And today folks, you learned that even the pros still have things to learn, so sit down and go improve that incompetences you have!
Yay I'm the first commentary!!! ✨✨✨ thanks for the video ☺️
There's more explosions in these videos than the US has nukes
I'm still studing to, just do it
One of Salamanca twins teaching me art, seems cool :0
Love your work! All of the artists I look up to always point to you as a good study guide.
But I have a question. I haven't even been drawing for 3 years yet as of writing this, and a lot of times, I don't get what you're saying. For instance, you've lost me a few times on your video about cel shading (which was still good).
What do I do when I don't understand or see what everybody else is talking about? I wanna get better at art, and I also wanna see what people are telling me.
I habe sadly only started this year to allow myself painting more stuff I want to draw and improve during that (eg my metal material suck so I do some studies on the side). Beforr O have wastwd mich time just doing copy studies ): wasted about two years on that..
Marc, I really love your work and would like to buy the course, but the price for me living in Brazil it is really expensive, is there any chance people out of US to get a discount?
Marc I've gotten into art 2 years ago now. I've bought courses, your course, Udemy, Achmed Aloodi's, Proko I've sunk money into art and I've always focused on the human figure. To get better I've done the fundamentals from Drawabox I keep going into them, I draw objects that I have, I draw animals, I've done gesture drawing regularly and I attend live figure drawing class. Why is it that I just can't seem to get better?
It's not that I'm not improving, my lines get better and I'm confident in doing what I need to but my mastery and understanding of concepts just doesn't stick. One week I see all the relations between forms and can copy something really well and the next one it's all gone. One week I can do Loomi's manikins perfectly on a model and the next I just fumble everything. I've studied the entirety of Bridgeman's anatomy and I still can't draw pectorals on a potato. Just what am I doing wrong? Two years and I feel like I'm not doing anything right, I need to get back to work in 6 months and am already spending around 6h a day on art. Please can I have some insight?
Well you should give muscle memory a try..and then draw whatever you want.
@@hassannayazihashmi clearly you don't draw. at least not anything good
@@hassannayazihashmi Maybe you are trying to learn too many concepts without applying them to anything ‘Valuable’. I’m not exactly sure but it sounds like you do a bunch of studies but not a lot of personal art (I fall into the same problem lol). No matter how much you learn something, if your brain thinks it isn’t needed it will discard it. Now that doesn’t meant it’s completely gone. It’s just somewhere deep at the back of your mind. That’s why it’s easier to re learn something for a second or third time. So my advice would be to do a focused study then at the end make one big piece of personal art that focuses on what you just studied. For example if you just studied arm anatomy for 2 weeks, draw a piece of art that focuses on a bunch of characters arms or something like that. You could also do a piece of art before the study so you see what you need to improve (Basically what Marc was talking about in this video)
Also, Repent and believe the gospel! Jesus died and resurrected 3 days later so you could be forgiven and have a relationship with God!
Marc where did you get those reference pictures of the women in the beginning of the video? Do you have a link? They look really fun to draw. Plus I could use the extra practice for clothed figures.
They look like Pinterest photos. Pinterest has the BEST reference photos. The poses are always so dynamic and really tell a story.
As someone with ADHD I find it HARD to study anatomy digitally because too many insputs and distractions and I have to wait for the light in my room to be okay to be able to see so I do it traditionally ( if I turn on the lights I cannot see what I am doing because the chandelier is in the middle of the room so whenever I turn around I have my own shadow obscuring the piece of paper ) so I rarely do it 😔 but I have trying to be consistent recently.
Witch artist do you watch? Or take inspiration
yessssss brain fooooooooodd!!!!
Lesss goooooo
Hey Marc.. I’ve been a freakin artist block/rut for some months now. And sadly have lost the motivation to make art and draw like I used to. It’s as if the raging flame I had, has slowly grew dim. It doesn’t help that I work a factory job that demands 50+ hours a week.
I’ve come across your videos since during this time I want to revisit the fundamentals and basics again regardless if it means starting at beginner.
In my time away from art I noticed that I struggle with faces and proper proportions at times. What’s some advice you can give for someone like me… whose had previous experience but now wants to revisit all the basics vs. creating any new pieces?
I also noticed that when you were discussing the types of conscious and unconscious competence/incompetence while drawing the variety of faces that you don’t use guidelines. Guidelines is something I truly never understood and at times can draw faces okay without them.. is that normal? Should I continue guidelines?
Hi, Marc how do you draw interaction between 2 or more people? I have a problem drawing 2 people hugging.
Thanks Marc, If you don't mind answering a question, I am having a little doubt with the "basic knowledge" and "problem identifying" part
Like if you already have the knowledge about the stuff you are drawing then how can you gave a problem in first instance
For example if I know the proportion shape size and different muscle groups of the arm, what kind of problem am I expected to face???
Thanks!!
How much time do you recommend should be spent on studying art in a day? Like I really want to work on personal projects but I keep thinking that I can use that time to practice to be better
Another art program called drawabox recommends a 50/50 split between focusing on learning and spending time using your knowledge on personal projects/having fun etc. Obviously there's a million different approaches but that's just one I wanted to share lol
huh this is very similiar to how I've started to make art and study too
245 months now 🎉
How do I get my pen/ lines to look like yours?
