December will be the month you learn to draw, this is IT. 30 days to go from "trash" to "alriight alrright" :D Took a while to put this plan together but I'm pretty stoked with it, it's quite solid if I dare say so myself. Give it a shot! Results guaranteed.

as a child we had drawing and painting class but had no formal education just free drawing. I drawn and coloured pretty good from a perspective but the lines were all shaky and interrupted uggly on some level but the overall curve plus its raughness that way carried across a nice communication of emotions. But it was just a few things my own which was there not a lot of complex things like some artists.

Once you build a momentum increase your standard to X a day on your calendar first and then when you feel comfortable increase your drawing and study. Be relaxed and have legit fun otherwise it’ll feel like a chore. Lastly create actual goals you write down and complete 10ish a week to motivate you to keep going. I went to art college in 1989 for 6 months. Got kicked out and never picked up a pencil since. Now its 2023 and I'm missing art. Found this and learned more in 10 minutes than in 6 months at college. I only want to draw characters (I play tabletop RPG's) but studying form like this will really help. Personally I'm a fan of acrylics but watercolours are good too - if this works out I build up to painting guitars. But.... baby steps. Draw a hand first, eh? OK....

Even knowing I'd have to start from scratch, I've been humbled in my ability to even draw a goddamn circle... I cannot stress enough the importance of fundamentals, which is exactly what is taught here. So many beginners jump straight to more complex stuff and then they struggle. I did that too back in the day, and I am still struggling because of it.
Also, when I said in a few Discord servers that I'd be staring this, and that it'd be an opportune moment for some folks, who have always wanted to start drawing to finally get to it. Had to start two days later because I was abroad, but 30 days later (Oct 3->Nov 1) I've officially completed the challenge.
Thank you for this Marc. Not only did you help me brush up on fundamentals (I feel much more confident now), but you also provided a much-needed distraction for me during a time where life was difficult for me. It's amazing how much intuition and understanding these seemingly simple exercises built up. I feel like I understand how it's all connected now, how spheres combined with squares are cylinders, how straight lines interact with each other and the importance of perspective.

I've been doing this for 2 weeks, and wow, I was surprised by how day 15 came out. I just dedicate like 30 minutes a day (including my prior exercises like lines, laces and such), but I have seen some progress. And it's interesting how the things you start with, that seem so basic, end up helping to further build more complex things. By getting used to drawing boxes and circles, I could make day 15 quite good (it's far from perfect, but it's better than I could expect from myself!). Let's see how it all ends in day 30.

1 week down and I'm already happy.
This hasn't only inspired me to take a serious shot at art, but actually brought so much fun.
The exercises are just enough for you to learn a little bit each day while also feeling successful about it.
It's a really cleverly thought out thing that gets you to regularly draw (sustainably) and really teaches you something.
Also, I learned that after like 30 years of living, I've never properly understood perspective until I started this and asked "why" so often until I got to the bottom of it. Most people learn to draw a cube in school that's technically impossible (or at least really far skewed) so it's interesting to feel the synapses connecting and starting to think in 3D, not just see. ^^

I just finished this challenge a day or 2 ago, and I must admit that, despite not being WOW the best examples for the tasks, I feel like I did quite good. Repeating these for at least half an hour a day really helped me understand how some things work, making it easier to portray certain things. I also did this during the first month of the 1-year challenge and I gotta say, these two complement so well. I'm super glad I gave this a try, finally, after years of not daring to draw. My toxic trait is trying to finish the entire challenge in one day-
Update: I got to day 10 in a single day and maybe I will post the rest of my progress if I continue the challenge tmr
Update 2: I got to day 15 the following day. The most difficult exercise was definitely day 13. Also the day 15 exercise really helped me connect a few dots. Once I realized I could make shapes with the simpler shapes I started making this drawing of a gadget that had buttons and switches just with the simpler shapes. And it actually looked good and not weirdly Two-Dimensional. I think day 15 really opened my mind a quite a bit. I can’t wait to see what I can do at day 30 :)
Update 3: today I did day 15-20 and I felt like what I drew today wasn’t as easy and didn’t look as good as I wanted it to because I kept noticing things wrong with my drawings. But that’s the thing, I actually NOTICED what I was doing wrong and when I compared my past sketches to the new sketches I realized I WAS IMPROVING despite thinking I got worse. I’m going to use this as motivation to continue!
Update 4: I completed day 21-25 today. I only have 5 more to do and I think my drawing skills and overall drawing knowledge has improved! The drawings today were pretty easy tbh and it was cool to use the different perspectives

I'd like to point out for anyone looking to get into this, but you suck hard - it really doesn't matter as his pinned comment says. I have barely done any drawing my entire life (and I am highlighting this because a ton of people say this despite drawing for years in their early adolescence or something or other) and people always poked fun at me when I "had to" for party games or such *all in good fun to be clear.
And although you wont necessarily make it look as ideal or even as you see other people do it, you will doubtlessly be less shit at it after doing this. I've so far done half of it and although I still think it looks horrible, its without a doubt better than before I started. Do give it a go, its been a great experience.

Can confirm I have evolved from garbage drawing into "oh, I think I know what that is supposed to be" which honestly is pretty neat considering the time/effort invested in this relatively short period of time. Granted, if I put in more time this last month it might have been "alright" at this point, so if you still wonder if you should do it - its still worth it even if its just half an hour a day, you will be better by the end.

Okay. Let's do this! Going to edit it every day. Let's see what progress is made (if any.. I'm pretty unspectacular when "art" is the subject.)
Day 1: My circles look like pizza pie that I've made homemade myself, in other words, they aren't circular.
Day 2: My circles are starting to look a little like actual circles. Not too much trouble drawing overlapping circles, but definitely complete beginner level.
Day 3: I had to go back and practice staying in the lines with curved scribbles. A few circles turned out nearly perfect, however, you could see perspective.
Day 4: Vague shapes and shadows took place. Hatching is evil. Circles and curves still getting better with more frequency.
Day 5: Discovered 2 major reasons I'm struggling so much. 1, not used to looking at a screen while drawing (with a pen tablet). 2, my work station is VERY poorly set up. Including things moving around while I draw.. more than I realized... lol Otherwise, my lines and curves aren't too bad with cylinders.
Day 6: Better. Everything. Had the tablet at a different angle. Attaching even ends better.
Day 7: One week. Day 7's exercise was hard only because I find it hard to draw a straight line while looking at a screen. So.. more practice with the tablet. Which is making me think that I need to make a few improvements to my setup, practice the most basic fundamentals until I get used to the tablet in general, and then start over. We'll see. Otherwise, the exercise wasn't actually that hard. Except hatchlines, but I think that's directly related to the previous statements.
Day 8: Eyeballs weren't too hard overall. Hundreds of circles are helping. They aren't perfect but they're noticeably better. The curved hatches are tough.
Day 9: I ordered a stand for my pen tab. I discovered that slight angles let me draw more accurately and I'll probably spend a good deal of effort getting used to drawing while looking at the screen. Then I'm likely to start this over. I'll be practicing mostly circles, arcs and curves, lines and parallels for a bit. When I start again, I might delete this and start over. Not sure yet.

I'm starting this today, and my sphere is everything but a sphere. I'm exited to see what it looks like on day 30. Will update here :)
Edit: I've updated on a few days. Meanwhile I finished the challenge, and it really changed a lot. I can see now the value of constructing complex subjects into simple shapes and the lessons from day 1 - 30 really helped with that. If you are wavering, this is your sign to try it. Never imagined to draw things such as a hand and a skull on day 29 and 30 so effortless. Thanks Marc it was a great journey. :)
Edit 2: My notes on some of the days:
I'm on day five and the spheres got a lot better. I'm thrilled with the progress so far. Trying to fill two pages with each exercise. (Not the shaded sphere. This was one page as it is really complex)
Finished day 10. One third of the way 😊. I have a lot more confidence in my lines than at the beginning. And my spheres resemble spheres much more than on day one.
Onto day 15. Half the way there. I can see clearly that something changed. It is easier and easier to draw accurate lines and see the shapes more clearly :)
Finished day 30: Everyone! Give this challenge a try. It will be fun and at the end you will see, that a few things have changed. Really liked the outcome with the skull. I constructed it from simple shapes (boxes, cylinders, spheres) and the lessons from the days before really made it easy to find the right forms and proportions.

Thank you for the tips and youtube tutorials. After moving to different countries it kinda helped me to find consistensy at least in something and I came back to drawing after many years.

hello my friends, i have officially managed to complete the entire 30 days, i want to say, it really does work, i really had a hard time with 3d volumes but this overall made it way easier to understand while still providing enough challenge to be interesting.
Do note that i didn't do all 30 days in a row, and that's fine, you gotta remember some days you have less motivation or you're more busy, what's important is you get back into it, results guaranteed

I just picked up drawing, and am on day 18 so far.
I've definitely noticed a big change in ability and confidence, as well as thought process from starting as 'never picked up a graphics pen' to today, and they're fun to do and complete.
Thanks for putting this together, it's working great for me!
